How Armor Works in Crimson Moon

Armor is one of the nine gear slots in your Crimson Moon loadout. You equip four pieces — helmet, chest, gauntlets, and legs — alongside your weapons, shields, and two trinkets. There are no character classes. Your armor set is one of the main ways you define your build identity, alongside your Weapon Art and Boon choices.

Armor drops during runs through Gildenarch. After a hunt, you bring pieces back to Sanctus Clypeus and purify them so they stay in your permanent collection. Once purified, Gajov the blacksmith can upgrade their rarity. Rarity matters — the higher it is, the more your Angel Mode benefits when you activate it. A matched set at Rare rarity will outperform a random collection of Common pieces every time.

Some armor sets come with lore-specific identities tied to the factions and history of Eden. Wearing the Covenant Cleric set says something different about your build than wearing the Vampire Telvaught set. The game encourages alignment — your four armor pieces should support the same playstyle as your weapon. A heavy polearm build and a glass-cannon chest plate with no defensive bonuses is asking for trouble.

Loot Drop Armor Sets

These are found during runs in Gildenarch — from chests, elite kills, and mission rewards. Most of the game’s armor falls into this category.

• Apostate — A crude set worn by Nephilim Apostates, designed to invert and mock the Order of the Crimson Moon. Dark, rebellious aesthetic. Good for players who want to look like they rejected the Church’s authority.
• Autumnal — Described as a symbol of strength, speed, and single-minded stubbornness. A beautiful seasonal-themed set for players who lean into an aggressive forward playstyle.
• Belwayne Knight — A stunning set of Phoenix-heraldry armor worn by Belwayne’s fierce defenders. Historically connected to the tension between Belwayne’s Alemendrals and Solomon’s Nachtstahl Steel Mills in Gildenarch’s Gilded and Mill Wards.
• Champion — A cuirass designed for the Champions of Litinstang. Rumor has it some Apostate Nephilim who fled Velchoria found a new living entertaining crowds in Litinstang’s gladiatorial arenas.
• Covenant Cleric — A beautiful set forged in honor of the Cleric’s Covenant — the agreement that finally ended a long-running clerical conflict over a single translated word. Heavy Church aesthetic, warrior-priest styling.
• Crimson Dragon Assassin — A cumbersome set built to withstand dragon attacks. The Lunitarian Church teaches that dragons trace their lineage to the Demiurge of the Old World. Only the toughest Nephilim wear this.
• Crimson Oath — The standard armor of the Knights of the Crimson Moon. Issued to Nephilim in service to the Order under the Crimson Concordat. The most iconic armor in the game — the set most associated with the game’s identity and marketing imagery.
• Divine Oath — A variant of Crimson Oath armor bestowed on Nephilim who take the Oath of the Divine. These Gold Hoods watch over the capital city of Illuminar and have served in its defense for centuries.
• Dominance — Another symbol of strength and stubbornness, this time with a heavier, more imposing silhouette. Good pairing for two-handed polearm builds that need to look the part.
• Haedrik Knight — An ornate set once worn by a knight of House Haedrik from western Armaea. Few suits were crafted for Nephilim use. The Haedriks dazzled Gildenarch’s aristocracy with their functional but beautiful armor.
• Lunar Sentinel — Cuirass of the ancient Lunar Sentinels, knights who served Lunarin before the Church was established and refused to join the new faith. A symbol of pre-Church heresy, now considered dangerous to wear openly.
• Midnight Oath — A variant of Crimson Oath armor bestowed on the Oath of Midnight — the Black Hoods. These Nephilim wander at night, investigating demonic and vampiric occult activity. Few mortals know they exist.
• Pale Ascent — A gorgeous white set once belonging to an infamous traitor. Named after the White Phoenix of Prosperity from Belwayne folklore — a spectral bird said to herald an age of fortune.
• Revenant — Named in honor of a revenant spirit who stood guard over the crypts of Gildeus long ago. In a world where even death isn’t permanent, wearing this is still a solid plan.
• Ruined Belwayne — Tragically damaged armor once worn by a Belwayne knight. The steel outlives the soldier. A weathered, battle-scarred look for players who want their armor to tell a story.
• Sanctus Zealot — An intimidating set worn by the Sanctus Zealots — berserk Lunitarian warriors who saw their faith as law and fought in the first interfaith war against the ancient Lunar Sentinels.
• Sovereign Sentry — Cuirass of the Sentries of Nachtendale’s Sovereign. Nachtendale has thrived since the Rite of Desolation, in large part because of these guards who held off neighboring city-states.
• Telvaught Excoriator — Worn by the Excoriators of the Telvaught vampire clan. Those outside the clan who have seen this armor no longer remain to describe it.
• Vermillion Knight — A distinct red set belonging to Sir Camden of House Alemendral. Stained red in tribute to the Nephilim who saved humanity. Belwayne, unlike many Armaean kingdoms, welcomed Nephilim as soldiers.

Boss Drop Armor Sets

These sets only drop from specific bosses. You need to kill the right enemy to have a chance at the drop. These are some of the most distinctive-looking sets in the game.

• Mahkten — A cuirass forged to withstand blows from the Lord of Perdition. No armor can truly hold up to Mahkteah’s colossal club mace — but wearing this, you’ll look exceptional trying. Drops from: Mahkteah, The Lord of Perdition.
• Pagan — Made from the melted and reforged steel of false idols. The Church’s war against pagan gods blurred the line between fighting a demon and fighting like one. Drops from: E’frae, The Dry Rot King.
• Ram — A symbol of strength and stubbornness, built around the ram heraldry of the Treveyan Highlands — the same imagery that inspired Gildenarch’s founding. Drops from: General Valahk-Nor.
• Telvaught — Ancient armor worn by a vampire who was never defeated but shed the set like molted skin to achieve a new form. Or so the legend says. Drops from: Felwyl, The Withered.

• Sonai Magistrate — As bright and colorful as the banners above the high office of the Sonai magistrate. A symbol of strength, discipline, and loyalty. Exclusive to: PlayStation 5 — available free to all PS5 players at launch regardless of edition.
• Valiant — Strange and prickly armor. Only the Valiant may wear it, for to wear it is to risk a view into the dark side of one’s own nature — the same spikes that point outward also point in. Exclusive to: Steam.
• Epoch — Adorned with the antlers of the long-extinct great eolk. Said to contain the pagan spirit of the wild north woods. Officially tolerated by the Church, provided the armor is sanctified in the blood of its enemies. Exclusive to: Epic Games Store.
• Hex Knight — Forged from thrice-cursed steel by the fabled hexalalurgists of the Drakfeld Steppes. Wearing this provides protection and a portent of strange things to come. Exclusive to: Xbox.

• Keeper’s Oath — A variant of Crimson Oath armor bestowed on Nephilim who take the Keeper’s Oath. These knights are charged with collecting and safeguarding all knowledge in Velchoria — both divine and profane — by any means necessary. Whether gold or iron, Keepers find a way. Tips for Building With Armor in Crimson Moon

Armor is not just about looks. A few things make a real difference in how your set performs during hunts.

• Purify your chest and legs first. These two pieces carry the bulk of your defensive stats. Get them purified and upgraded at Gajov before chasing the full set.
• Match your set to your weapon’s job. If your weapon is a two-hander polearm that trades the shield for reach, wear armor that supports aggression. If your weapon is sword-and-shield, wear a set that supports surviving mistakes, not one that rewards gambling damage.
• Don’t chase cosmetics over stats during live runs. The Vampire Telvaught set might look incredible but if it doesn’t align with your build’s identity at the moment you need it, swap it out. Fashion goes at Sanctus Clypeus. Stats go in the wards.
• Rarity feeds Angel Mode. Every piece of armor you upgrade at Gajov contributes to how powerful your Angel transformation is. A full Rare set is meaningfully stronger than a collection of mismatched Common pieces — even if the Common pieces have better individual lore.
• Farm boss drops by running districts. The Mahkten, Pagan, Ram, and Telvaught sets are some of the most visually striking in the game. All four require killing specific bosses. If a boss set fits your build, queue that district intentionally until it drops.
