The Deltarune Chapter 5 Egg is one of the most hidden collectibles in the entire game. Every chapter has exactly one secret Egg, and Chapter 5 hides it behind a multi-step puzzle most players walk right past. You need to be in the right area, do something that feels completely pointless, follow a balloon, copy a dog’s pattern, and then use a watering can to reach the man behind the tree. This guide covers every step.
- The Egg is found in the Cliffs area, past the shop, inside a wheat field between two torii gates.
- Dash back and forth through the wheat repeatedly to harvest it all.
- One wheat tile respawns. Trample it five times to trigger a balloon.
- Follow the balloon left into a hidden room with six flowers and the Annoying Dog.
- Copy the order the dog visits the flowers to unlock a watering can.
- Use the watering can on the left side to open the path to the secret room.
- Speak to the man behind the tree to receive the Egg.
What Is the Egg in Deltarune?
The Egg is a recurring secret item that appears once in every chapter of Deltarune. Each one is obtained by finding a hidden room and speaking to a mysterious man standing behind a tree. The Egg has no direct effect in battle or on the story. However, it does carry over into the Light World after you leave the Dark World, and you can interact with it in various ways depending on the chapter.
In Chapter 5, the Egg can be dropped and it will appear in Asgore’s refrigerator or Sans’s fridge in Hometown. Collecting the Egg also affects PlayStation trophies. If you are going for a clean completion trophy, collect the Egg only after finishing the chapter, or keep a separate save file. Collecting it before finishing the chapter forfeits the chapter completion trophy on PlayStation.
The man’s dialogue also changes if you have already collected all Eggs from previous chapters. Instead of hinting at more Eggs elsewhere, he tells you to stop looking for him and shares details about Kris. That alternate dialogue is the real reward for completionists tracking the Egg mystery across all chapters.
Where to Find the Egg in Deltarune Chapter 5
The Egg is located in the Cliffs area, to the right of the Cliffs Shop. You must already have the Petal Feather before you can reach this part of the chapter. If you are still trying to get past the Mysterious Structures or unlock the vines, read our guide on how to get the power for the Mysterious Structure in Deltarune Chapter 5 first.
Once you are in the Cliffs area, the Egg puzzle begins in a specific wheat field between two torii gates. The field looks completely normal. There is no visual clue that anything is hidden here. That is what makes it so easy to miss.
Step-by-Step Guide to Get the Egg
Step 1: Reach the Wheat Field Past the Cliffs Shop
From the Cliffs Shop, head right. You will enter a wheat field with a few Kawkaw enemies hiding inside. Deal with the enemies or avoid them, then keep moving right. You will spot a torii gate. Dash through it to take on a Starwalker that fires projectiles at you. Dodge the shots and reach the other side safely.
Now you are between two torii gates. This stretch of wheat is where the Egg puzzle begins.
Step 2: Harvest All the Wheat Between the Two Gates
Start dashing back and forth between the two torii gates. Each pass destroys a portion of the wheat in the corridor. Keep running back and forth repeatedly until you have trampled every piece of wheat in the area. This takes more passes than you might expect, so do not stop early.
Once you have cleared everything, you will notice that one small wheat tile respawns in the dead center of the path. It keeps coming back no matter how many times you run over it.
Step 3: Trample the Respawning Wheat Five Times
Run over that single respawning wheat tile five times in a row. After the fifth trample, a balloon will appear and begin drifting to the left, carried by the wind. This is your cue to follow it.
Step 4: Follow the Balloon to the Left
Chase the balloon leftward, back toward the direction of the Cliffs Shop. It leads you into a room you cannot access any other way. Do not leave this room once you enter it. Leaving forces you to reload your save to re-enter, so stay inside until you have the Egg.

Step 5: Solve the Dog Flower Puzzle
The hidden room contains six flowers scattered across the floor and the Annoying Dog tied to a balloon, floating between them. The dog drifts to each flower in a specific order, sprinkling particles on each one as it visits.
Watch the dog carefully and memorize the sequence. The order is random every time you enter the room, so pay attention the moment you arrive. Once the dog completes its round, interact with each flower in the exact same order the dog visited them. You need to do this for all six flowers.
A few tips for this puzzle:
- Keep your eyes on the dog at all times rather than scanning the room.
- The dog clearly moves toward the next flower before it arrives, so you can anticipate and move quickly.
- You must copy the pattern accurately. Getting it wrong means starting the observation process again.
- Wait for the dog to move to a flower on the right side of the room before grabbing the watering can, otherwise the dog will chase you and put it back.
Step 6: Take the Watering Can and Open the Left Path
Once you interact with all six flowers in the correct order, a watering can spawns on a plinth in the center of the room. Wait for the Annoying Dog to drift to the right side of the room, then move quickly to grab the can before it returns.
With the watering can in hand, move to the left side of the room. Use the watering can on the wilting plants there to grow a path. This opens a route into another hidden area connected to the flower room.

Step 7: Find the Man Behind the Tree and Get the Egg
Follow the newly opened left path. You will enter a small room that looks almost identical to the hidden rooms from earlier chapters. There is a lone tree in the center. Walk behind the tree and press interact.
The mysterious man is standing there. Speak to him. After you exhaust all of his dialogue, he hands you the Egg. Once you have it, you can leave the room safely. The Egg is now in Kris’s inventory.
What Happens After You Get the Egg
The Egg stays in Kris’s inventory when you return to the Light World. You can interact with it, drop it, or leave it alone. If you drop it, the game displays the text “What Egg?” — a reference to a running gag in the MS Paint Adventures webcomic that Toby Fox contributed music to. The Egg will reappear in your inventory the next time you re-enter the Dark World.
At the end of Chapter 5, the Egg disappears from your inventory regardless of what you do with it. Its effects in the Light World, including what appears in Asgore’s refrigerator, depend on what you chose to do while you had it.
If you already collected Eggs from all previous chapters before getting this one, the man’s dialogue changes completely. He tells you to stop searching for him and reveals information about Kris that is not found anywhere else in the game. This is the payoff for players who have been collecting Eggs across every chapter.
Can You Miss the Egg?
Yes. The Egg is completely missable. If you progress the main story past the Dark World boss and seal the Dark Fountain, you are locked out of returning to the Cliffs wheat field. You cannot get the Egg after the fountain is sealed without reloading an earlier save or restarting the chapter.
The safest approach is to collect the Egg before triggering the final story events in the chapter. The Cliffs area is accessible well before the endgame sequence, so there is plenty of time to do it during a normal playthrough.
Tips for Collecting the Egg Efficiently
- Clear the wheat field enemies first. Dealing with Kawkaws before you start harvesting means no interruptions while you run back and forth between the gates.
- Do not leave the hidden room once you enter. Leaving resets the balloon trigger and forces you to harvest the wheat all over again from a reloaded save.
- Watch the dog pattern from the moment you arrive. The sequence starts immediately after you enter the room, so be ready.
- Grab a save at the Cliffs Shop before starting. This gives you a clean fallback if anything goes wrong inside the hidden room.
- PlayStation players: finish the chapter first if you want the completion trophy. Collecting the Egg before the credits forfeits it.
