After accepting the contract, a green investigation zone appears on your map in the waters near Castillo de Jagua. Sail there and pull out your spyglass to scan the area. You’re looking for a Frigate — a medium-large ship, noticeably bigger than the Schooners you dealt with in A Spanish Plague.
The San Lorenzo won’t turn hostile until you engage it first. Use that to your advantage. Get in close before opening fire — the shorter the range, the more damage your broadsides deal per shot. Close-range cannons hit harder and reduce the time spent whittling down its hull.
How to Complete Eye For An Eye — Step by Step

- Accept the contract from Milo at the Great Inagua docks
- Sail to the Castillo de Jagua area marked on your map

How to Earn the Bonus — No Mortars
The bonus objective is simple in principle: don’t touch the mortar. Stick entirely to your broadside cannons and heavy shot for the whole fight and the bonus is yours.
Frigates have a decent health pool but they’re not tanks. Your standard broadside fire will eat through the hull steadily — just be patient. Get close, position the Jackdaw so you can keep cycling broadsides, and let the cannons do the work. There’s no need for the mortar at all at this point in the game.
One thing to keep in mind: incapacitate means damage the ship to the boarding threshold, not sink it. Once the prompt to board appears, stop firing and move in. If you accidentally sink it instead of incapacitating it, you’ll still complete the main objective but you’ll lose the boarding requirement — and if the ship sinks from mortar fire before you even board, you lose the bonus too. Cannons only, and stop when the boarding prompt appears.
What Happens During Boarding
Once you pull up alongside the San Lorenzo and trigger the boarding sequence, you’ll need to kill a set number of crew members on deck. The original Black Flag had you kill 15 enemies during this phase, and Resynced keeps a similar structure. Fight through the crew and destroy any powder stores on deck as prompted.
Take your time and use parries — Resynced’s combat is built around precise counters and short combos, so don’t mash. Work through the crew steadily and the contract completes automatically once the boarding is done.
One useful tip here: pressing the board button freezes all incoming damage to the Jackdaw. Any mortar shots already in the air won’t land, and other nearby ships stop engaging. So if you’re worried about taking hits from an escort ship while you board, get the boarding prompt triggered and everything goes on pause.
Tips for Fighting Frigates in Eye For An Eye
- Close range is your friend. The San Lorenzo won’t aggro until you fire. Creep in close and open up from point-blank range for maximum broadside damage.
- Heavy shot over regular chain shot. Chain shot is great for slowing ships but heavy shot deals more hull damage. Use heavy shot to bring the health down fast.
- Stay off the mortar entirely. Even if you’re under pressure, don’t be tempted. The 900 Reale bonus is worth more than the convenience of a few mortar shots.
- Deal with escort ships quickly. If a smaller ship is tagging along with the San Lorenzo, incapacitate it first or take it down early so it’s not interrupting your boarding.
- Board to repair. If the fight goes long and your hull takes damage, boarding the incapacitated San Lorenzo not only completes the mission — it also stops all incoming damage while you’re on the enemy deck.
