All Naval Contracts in AC Black Flag Resynced are optional ship combat side quests that reward Reales and, once completed in full, unlock two exclusive cosmetics. There are 15 contracts spread across the Caribbean, all tied to an NPC named Milo Van Der Graaf and his associates at various docks. This guide covers every contract location, target, base reward, and bonus objective tip.
TL;DR
- There are 15 Naval Contracts total in AC Black Flag Resynced.
- They unlock after completing Sequence 4: This Old Cove — then speak to Milo at Great Inagua’s docks.
- The first contract is A Spanish Plague. Finishing it reveals all remaining contracts on the map.
- Base rewards range from 1,200 to 2,400 Reales per contract. Most have a bonus objective for extra Reales.
- Completing all 15 earns the Black Skull Sails (Legendary) and Handsome Devils Crew Attire (Rare).
- Total Reales earned across all 15 contracts: roughly 22,800+ (more with bonus objectives).
- Hunter Gatherer (Contract 15) requires you to raise your wanted level first or Hunter Ships won’t appear.
- Nothing is missable — all contracts stay available even after finishing the main story.
How to Unlock Naval Contracts in AC Black Flag Resynced
Naval Contracts are exclusive new content added to the remake. They don’t appear at all until you complete the This Old Cove main mission in Sequence 4. Once that’s done, head to the docks at Great Inagua and talk to Milo Van Der Graaf, a fairly colourful character standing near the harbourmaster.
Talking to Milo kicks off the first contract, A Spanish Plague. Completing it reveals all remaining Naval Contracts on your world map at their respective dock locations. From there you can tackle them in any order.
You can also filter for Naval Contracts specifically on the map — press Square (PS5) or X (Xbox) while viewing the map to isolate the contract icons. They’re also revealed when you synchronise viewpoints in a region, so if you’ve been climbing viewpoints regularly, many of them will already be visible.
For a broader look at all new additions in the remake, check out the full list of new content in AC Black Flag Resynced.
Naval Contracts — Key Rules to Know
- Nothing is missable. Every contract remains available even after completing the main story. Take your time.
- Bonus objectives are optional but worth doing — they stack extra Reales on top of the base reward.
- A Spanish Plague, Silk On The Waves, Driftwood, Contraband, and The Final Contract have no separate bonus objective.
- Hunter Gatherer requires an active wanted level of at least 1. Hunter Ships only spawn when you’re being hunted, so raise your infamy before accepting or you’ll wait forever for targets to appear.
- The Final Contract is locked until all other 14 contracts are cleared. It then unlocks from Milo at the manor in Great Inagua.
- The more upgraded your Jackdaw, the easier every contract becomes. A well-upgraded ship turns most of these into straightforward fights.
If your Jackdaw needs work before tackling contracts, see our ship upgrade and customise guide and the final ship upgrade locations and Ultimate Plans guide.
All 15 Naval Contracts — Locations, Targets and Rewards
Contract 1 — A Spanish Plague (Great Inagua)

Accepted from: Milo at the docks, Great Inagua
Objective: Sink 3 ships
Bonus objective: None
Reward: Reales
This is the introductory contract that unlocks the entire Naval Contracts system. Head to Great Inagua’s docks after completing This Old Cove, speak to Milo, then sail to the marked area and sink the three target ships. Straightforward. No bonus objective here — just sink all three and collect your reward. Once it’s done, all remaining contracts populate the map.
Contract 2 — Eye For An Eye (Great Inagua)

Accepted from: Milo at the docks, Great Inagua
Objective: Board the San Lorenzo Frigate
Bonus objective: Incapacitate the San Lorenzo without using mortars (+900 Reales)
Reward: Reales
Sail to the marked area and find the San Lorenzo Frigate. Your job is to board it, not just sink it. For the bonus, incapacitate the ship using only broadside cannons and swivel guns — no mortars at all. This means you need to whittle it down carefully without firing mortars, then board once it’s at low health. The bonus 900 Reales is worth the extra restraint.
Contract 3 — Blind Justice (Great Inagua)

Accepted from: Milo at the docks, Great Inagua
Objective: Board the British Man O’ War
Bonus objective: Sink all 3 escort ships before boarding the Man O’ War (+900 Reales)
Reward: Reales
You need to board a British Man O’ War but it comes with three escort ships. To earn the bonus, sink all three escorts first before boarding the main target. Clear the smaller ships on the outside edges first so they can’t chip you while you focus on the Man O’ War. Once all three escorts are down, then move in to board.
Contract 4 — Papers, Please (Great Inagua)

Accepted from: Milo in the town, Great Inagua
Objective: Sink the HMS Courage
Bonus objective: Board the HMS Courage instead of sinking it (+1,200 Reales)
Reward: Reales
Find and sink the HMS Courage at the marked location. The bonus here flips the objective — board the ship rather than just destroying it. That’s worth 1,200 extra Reales, the highest single bonus payout in the Great Inagua contracts, so it’s definitely worth planning around. Reduce its health without sinking it, then pull up alongside and board.
Contract 5 — The Final Contract (Great Inagua)

Accepted from: Milo by the manor, Great Inagua
Objective: Protect the Hollander — sink all 10 incoming ships
Bonus objective: None
Reward: Handsome Devils Crew Attire (Rare) + Black Skull Sails (Legendary)
This contract only unlocks after all other 14 contracts are completed. Milo moves to the manor area rather than the docks for this one. The mission tasks you with protecting an allied ship called the Hollander from 10 incoming enemy ships. Keep the Hollander alive while eliminating all attackers. No Reales payout here — the reward is both cosmetics at once: the Handsome Devils Crew Attire and the Black Skull Sails. These are the main reason to finish all 15 contracts.
Contract 6 — A Personal Matter (Crooked Island)

Accepted from: Man at the docks, Crooked Island
Objective: Sink the HMS Defiance (Frigate)
Bonus objective: Board the HMS Defiance (+900 Reales)
Reward: Reales
Head to Crooked Island’s docks and pick up this contract, then sail to the HMS Defiance’s location. The primary objective is to sink it, but the bonus wants you to board it instead. Board for the 900 Reales bonus — same approach as Papers, Please. Damage without sinking, then board when the board prompt appears.
Contract 7 — The Law of the Ocean (Havana)

Accepted from: Man at the docks, Havana
Objective: Ambush enemies and board the Hercules
Bonus objective: Sink a ship using fire barrels (+900 Reales)
Reward: Reales
This one has a slightly different setup — you sail to the marked location and wait to ambush an approaching enemy convoy. Your main target is the Hercules, which you need to board and take over. For the bonus, sink one of the accompanying ships using fire barrels rather than standard cannon fire. Position your fire barrels in the water in the path of a smaller escort ship and detonate when it sails through.
Contract 8 — Silk On The Waves (Salt Key Bank)

Accepted from: Man at the docks, Salt Key Bank
Objective: Collect 30 cloth by sinking or plundering ships
Bonus objective: None
Reward: Reales
This is a resource-gathering contract rather than a targeted fight. Sail the area and sink or plunder ships until you’ve accumulated 30 cloth. Important note: any cloth you already have in your cargo hold before accepting the contract does not count. The 30 cloth needs to come from ships you board or sink after taking the contract. Return to the handler at Salt Key Bank once you hit 30.
Contract 9 — Driftwood (Andreas Island)

Accepted from: Man at the docks, Andreas Island
Objective: Collect 60 wood by sinking or plundering ships
Bonus objective: None
Reward: Reales
Same structure as Silk On The Waves but now you’re gathering wood. Sink or plunder ships until you have 60 wood collected specifically during the contract. Pre-existing wood in your cargo doesn’t count. Target merchant ships and smaller brigs in the area — they tend to carry wood more reliably than military vessels. For more farming tips, check our guide on how to farm metal and wood.
Contract 10 — Weathering The Storm (Nassau)

Accepted from: Man at the docks, Nassau
Objective: Sink all 5 ships in the British fleet
Bonus objective: Sink 2 of them using a mortar (+600 Reales)
Reward: Reales
A fleet-clearing contract. Sail to the marked zone and take out all 5 ships in the British fleet. For the bonus, make sure at least 2 of those kills come from mortar fire. Use the mortar on the larger or slower ships that are easier to hit with the arc-fire mechanic. The bonus is only 600 Reales but quick to earn if you remember to open with mortar shots on the first two targets.
Contract 11 — The Realities Of War (Grand Cayman)

Accepted from: Man at the docks, Grand Cayman
Objective: Sink all Spanish ships
Bonus objective: Sink a Spanish ship using the mortar (+1,200 Reales)
Reward: Reales
Sail to the marked location and sink all Spanish ships in the area. For the 1,200 Reale bonus — easily the most lucrative bonus objective outside of the boarding contracts — just make sure at least one kill comes from a mortar shot. Open the fight by targeting the closest or largest ship with your mortar first, secure the bonus kill, then clean up the rest however you like.
While you’re in the area, take a look at our Grand Cayman chest guide if you haven’t cleared the collectibles there yet.
Contract 12 — Contraband (Arroyos)

Accepted from: Man at the docks, Arroyos
Objective: Sink all smuggler ships
Bonus objective: None
Reward: Reales
Head to Arroyos and take the contract, then sail to the marked area and sink all smuggler ships present. There’s no bonus objective attached to this one, so just engage and destroy them all to complete the contract and collect your reward.
Contract 13 — Private Escort (Corozal)

Accepted from: Man next to the Harbourmaster, Corozal
Objective: Escort the Neptuno to safety
Bonus objective: Neptuno must have 50% or more health when you reach Serranilla (+1,200 Reales)
Reward: Reales
This is the most involved contract before The Final Contract. You need to meet up with an allied ship called the Neptuno and escort it through a series of ambushes:
- First wave: 2 small ships
- Second wave heading south: 3 more small ships
- Third wave: 3 small ships and 1 medium ship
The key to the bonus is keeping the Neptuno’s health above 50% by the time you reach open water near Serranilla. Focus on intercepting enemy ships before they reach the Neptuno — get between them and your escort, absorb or deflect fire, and deal with each wave quickly before the next closes in. Don’t let enemies swarm from multiple sides at once or the Neptuno’s health will drop fast.
Contract 14 — Smuggler’s Den (Kingston)

Accepted from: Man at the docks, Kingston
Objective: Destroy a Spanish blockade (3 ships — 1 large, 1 medium Frigate, 1 small)
Bonus objective: Sink the Frigate using a mortar shot (+900 Reales)
Reward: Reales
Three ships form the Spanish blockade: a large ship, a Frigate (medium), and a small ship. The strategy here is to damage the medium and small ships to reduce return fire while you work on the large ship. For the bonus, you need to sink the Frigate using a mortar shot. Soften it up with broadside cannons first to bring its health low, but don’t accidentally sink it before the mortar can land. Board the small ship to repair the Jackdaw if you need health mid-fight.
Contract 15 — Hunter Gatherer (Île à Vache)

Accepted from: Man at the docks, Île à Vache
Objective: Sink 2 Hunter Ships
Bonus objective: Sink one Hunter Ship using a mortar (+900 Reales)
Reward: Reales
This one has a critical requirement that trips a lot of players up. Hunter Ships only spawn when you have an active wanted level of at least 1. If you accept the contract without a wanted level active, the target ships simply won’t appear — no red-sailed pirate hunters anywhere on the horizon.
To raise your wanted level, attack another ship or engage in any activity that draws infamy. Once you have a wanted level, Hunter Ships will start coming for you and are marked with red sails and a pirate icon on the map. Sink two of them to complete the contract. For the bonus, make sure one of those two kills comes from a mortar shot. Aim and fire the mortar when the ship is close enough to get a good shot and the board prompt is visible — that’s the timing window described in-game.

Naval Contracts Completion Rewards
Finishing all 15 Naval Contracts unlocks two cosmetics from Milo after completing The Final Contract:
- Black Skull Sails — Legendary sail cosmetic for the Jackdaw
- Handsome Devils Crew Attire — Rare crew attire cosmetic
These are purely cosmetic but give the Jackdaw a distinctive look that ties to the contract storyline. The Black Skull Sails in particular are one of the most striking visual rewards in the game. Completing all 15 also counts toward 100% completion.
Naval Contracts Tips
- Upgrade the Jackdaw first. The later contracts throw Man O’ Wars and multi-ship fleets at you. A well-upgraded ship makes these manageable rather than painful. See our ship upgrade guide and how to capture forts for extra resources.
- Always plan your bonus first. Several bonuses (like boarding instead of sinking) directly conflict with the “obvious” approach. Read the objective before you start firing.
- Don’t accidentally sink targets you need to board. For contracts like Eye For An Eye and Papers, Please, hold back on damage as the ship gets low. Swap to swivel guns for finishing damage since they’re lighter hits.
- For mortar bonuses, aim for already-damaged ships. Mortars deal high burst damage. A few broadside shots to soften a target first makes it much easier to land the killing mortar blow before it sinks.
- For Hunter Gatherer, raise your wanted level before you even accept the contract, or do it immediately after. The longer you spend searching for Hunter Ships without a wanted level, the more time you waste.
- Private Escort is the one to take seriously. Keep yourself between enemy ships and the Neptuno at all times. Engage approaching enemies early — never let them get into broadside range of the Neptuno unchallenged.
