Weathering the Storm is Naval Contract #10 in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Accepted at Nassau, it sends the Jackdaw against a full five-ship British fleet. Unlike the resource-gathering contracts before it, this is a straight combat mission — sink all five ships and optionally use your mortar on two of them for a bonus payout. This guide covers how to unlock it, where to find the fleet, how to handle the fight, and how to earn the full 1,800 Reales.
- TL;DR
- Weathering the Storm is Naval Contract #10, accepted at Nassau in the Eleuthera region.
- You must sink a British fleet made up of 2 Cutters and 3 Brigs — 5 ships total.
- Sink 2 of the 5 ships using mortar fire to earn a 600 Reales bonus on top of the base reward.
- Open with mortars on the Cutters, then switch to broadsides and heavy shot on the Brigs.
- Use fire barrels to slow pursuers and deal bonus damage as ships close in behind you.
How to Unlock Weathering the Storm in AC Black Flag Resynced
Weathering the Storm is accepted from the man at the docks in Nassau, located in the Eleuthera region. The quest giver stands right at the dock where the Jackdaw berths, easy to spot by his marker. The exact coordinates are 598,772.
Naval Contracts unlock after completing This Old Cove in Sequence 4. After that, head to Great Inagua, speak to Milo to begin A Spanish Plague, and work through the chain in order. Weathering the Storm sits at position ten. Make sure you have also synchronised the Nassau viewpoints so the contract icon appears on your map.
Nothing in the Naval Contract chain is missable — you can complete Weathering the Storm at any time, including after finishing the main story.

Weathering the Storm Objectives
- Main Objective: Sink the entire British fleet of 5 ships.
- Bonus Objective: Sink at least 2 of the 5 ships using mortar fire to earn an extra 600 Reales.
The full reward for completing both objectives is 1,800 Reales. The mortar bonus is worth going for since the Cutters are small and easy mortar targets right at the start of the fight.
How to Complete Weathering the Storm
Step 1 – Accept the Contract at Nassau
Dock at Nassau and speak to the contact at the pier. He gives the job and points you toward a marked area in the Gibara region where the British fleet is operating. Accept the contract and set sail.
Step 2 – Sail to the Fleet’s Location
Open your map and head to the green investigation zone marked by the objective. The British fleet patrols this area. Use your spyglass once inside the zone to identify the ships and confirm you have found the right group. The fleet consists of 2 Cutters and 3 Brigs sailing in a loose cluster.
Step 3 – Open with Mortars on the Cutters
Before closing into broadside range, open fire with your mortars. The two Cutters are the smallest and most fragile ships in the fleet. They are ideal mortar targets for two reasons: they go down quickly, and hitting two of them with mortar fire is the fastest path to the bonus objective.
Keep your distance during the opening exchange and focus mortar shots on one Cutter at a time. Smaller gunboats do not put up much resistance at range, so you can chip them down without taking significant return fire. Aim to sink or badly damage both Cutters before closing in on the Brigs. Hold onto at least four mortar shots through the later part of the fight to ensure you can guarantee the bonus kills if needed.
Step 4 – Use Fire Barrels to Control the Chase
Once ships start pursuing the Jackdaw, turn away briefly and drop fire barrels in the water behind you. Any ship that sails into a fire barrel takes damage and slows down. This is especially useful during this fight because five ships closing from different angles is chaotic. Fire barrels punish aggressive pursuit and give you breathing room to line up mortar shots or reposition for broadsides.
You do not need to rely on fire barrels the entire fight — just use them reactively whenever two or more ships are closing from behind and you need space.
Step 5 – Switch to Broadsides and Heavy Shot for the Brigs
Once the Cutters are handled, focus everything on the three Brigs. Brigs are tougher than Cutters and can deal real broadside damage if you let them get alongside you. The best approach is to keep circling — alternate between heavy shot to strip hull armour and broadsides to deal sustained damage as you pass.
Keep moving throughout. A stationary Jackdaw in a five-ship fight is a sitting target. Stay mobile, pick off one Brig at a time, and avoid getting caught between multiple ships firing from opposite sides. For tips on maximising your Jackdaw’s firepower at this point in the game, see our ship upgrade guide and our final ship upgrade locations guide.
Step 6 – Confirm Your Mortar Bonus Kills
The bonus objective requires sinking 2 ships specifically with mortar fire. You can incapacitate a ship with cannons, then finish it off with a mortar shot — it counts as a mortar kill as long as the mortar deals the killing blow. This makes the bonus much easier to achieve because you can batter a ship down with broadsides and then land one final mortar to claim the kill. Use this method on the Cutters or any weakened Brig to lock in the bonus.
Step 7 – Return to Nassau
Once all five British ships are sunk, the contract completes. Sail back to Nassau, speak to the contact at the dock, and collect your reward.
Weathering the Storm Rewards
- Base Reward: 1,200 Reales for sinking the entire fleet
- Mortar Bonus: 600 Reales extra for sinking 2 ships with mortar fire
- Total (both objectives): 1,800 Reales
Tips for Weathering the Storm
- Save your mortar shots for bonus kills. Do not waste mortars on Brigs early. The Cutters are far easier targets and make it simple to bag the two mortar kills needed for the bonus.
- Finish ships off with mortars, do not open with them. Incapacitate ships with cannons first, then use a mortar to land the killing blow. This is more reliable than trying to sink a fresh ship with mortars from the start.
- Drop fire barrels when being chased. Five ships pursuing at once is the biggest risk in this fight. Fire barrels placed behind the Jackdaw slow pursuers and chip their health while you reposition.
- Target Cutters first. They go down faster and their lower health makes them the easiest mortar targets for the bonus objective.
- Stay mobile. Circle the fleet rather than sitting still. Getting bracketed by two Brigs firing from opposite sides will drain your hull quickly.
- Upgrade your mortar storage before this fight. Running out of mortar ammo mid-fight is the main way to miss the bonus. See our ultimate ship upgrade plans guide for the Mortar Storage upgrade location.
- Upgrade hull armour if you are struggling. Better hull survivability gives you more time to reposition cleanly. Our Great Inagua upgrades guide covers what to prioritise first.
