How Great Inagua Upgrades Work in AC Black Flag Resynced

Great Inagua is Edward Kenway’s home base in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. When you first arrive after completing the main story mission This Old Cove in Sequence 4, it is a half-ruined cove with an abandoned manor and empty beach. You fund it back to life with Reales.

The upgrade system splits into two locations. For the manor itself, head inside the large east-side building and interact with the Manage Hideout table in the west wing. This is where you unlock the Facade, Tower and Garden, and Guesthouse manor upgrades.

For the village and docks, walk around the Great Inagua shoreline and paths. NPCs with a square hammer icon above their heads represent buildings you can restore. Talk to them and pay the Reales to start construction. Once a building is active, an arrow on the icon indicates a further upgrade tier is available.

Once you restore all seven village buildings and complete all three manor upgrades, speak to Bernard Woodhouse near the Guesthouse. This completes the Former Glories side quest and unlocks the Edward the Legend legendary outfit.

All Great Inagua Village and Dock Upgrades

Harbourmaster (Tier I, II, III)

The Harbourmaster is the most important upgrade on the entire island. Do this first, no exceptions.

  • Harbourmaster I — 500 Reales: Unlocks Tier II Jackdaw upgrades. Becomes available after This Old Cove.
  • Harbourmaster II — 2,500 Reales: Unlocks Tier III Jackdaw upgrades.
  • Harbourmaster III — 5,000 Reales: Unlocks the full range of Jackdaw upgrades. Only the Ultimate Plans act as a final barrier after this point.

Upgrading the Great Inagua Harbourmaster unlocks those higher upgrade tiers at every Harbourmaster across the entire Caribbean map — not just at Great Inagua. That means once you pay here, you can buy top-tier hull armor and weapons from Nassau, Havana, or any other friendly port. This directly affects how well the Jackdaw survives late-game fort attacks and encounters with stronger enemy ships.

For everything you can actually buy once those tiers are unlocked, see our full ship upgrade and customisation guide.

Tavern — 100 Reales

The Tavern is the cheapest unlock on the island and one of the most important because it gates three other buildings. The Brothel, Campfire, and Treasure Dealer all require the Tavern to be built first. At only 100 Reales, there is no reason to delay this one.

Once restored, the Tavern lets you hire crew, drink to replenish morale, and play card and dice games. You can also change shanties from here. See our shanties guide for more on that.

General Store (Tier I, II, III)

  • General Store I — 500 Reales: Unlocks the store. You can buy ammunition, remedies, and basic gear.
  • General Store II — 2,500 Reales: Unlocks Rare weapons and a wider gear selection. Most notably adds the Officer’s Rapier and the Lodestone trinket, which automatically loots nearby corpses and collectibles — a big quality-of-life upgrade.
  • General Store III — 5,000 Reales: Unlocks Legendary weapons and the full stock of wildlife skins for purchase. This is very useful for crafting Edward’s gear without spending hours hunting specific animals.

The General Store also needs to be active before you can build the Treasure Dealer. Restore it early and upgrade it once you have the Reales to spare. For more on what you can craft with the materials you buy, check our crafting guide.

Brothel — 6,000 Reales

Requires: Tavern built first.

The Brothel makes all Dancers free to hire from that point on. More importantly, it gives your boarding crew a flat damage increase. If you board ships often — which is the best way to farm materials and Reales — this upgrade makes every boarding fight meaningfully easier. Your crew handles enemies faster, which reduces the chance of losing crew members mid-fight.

Campfire — 6,000 Reales

Requires: Tavern built first.

The Campfire lets you recruit drunk pirates as crew members for free, which saves you Reales normally spent at taverns across the Caribbean. More importantly for fleet management, it grants two additional ship berths for Kenway’s Fleet. Since more berths means more ships running missions simultaneously, this is a real income multiplier for players who are actively managing their fleet. See our Kenway’s Fleet guide for full details on how to maximise those extra slots.

Treasure Dealer — 5,000 Reales

Requires: General Store and Tavern both built first.

The Treasure Dealer is found on the docks to the west of the Jackdaw. He restores torn treasure maps from map fragments, which you collect via Schooner Trade missions in Kenway’s Fleet. He also sells Rare and Legendary gear, ship vanity items, bones, and a Weathered Map Piece.

The bones are especially useful. You can trade them for animal skins, which means you can skip hunting for certain rare creatures and just buy the materials you need directly. Building the Treasure Dealer also increases your passive hideout profit over time. Our treasure map locations guide shows every map in the game and what each one rewards.

Fisherman’s Wharf — 5,000 Reales

Requires: Harbourmaster and Tavern both built first.

The Fisherman’s Wharf increases the passive hideout profit over time and doubles the number of skins and bones you collect from sea animals. Bull Shark Skins in particular are needed for several high-tier crafting upgrades including Pistol Holders. With the Wharf active, every shark kill gives you double the materials, which cuts your farming time in half.

The Fisherman’s Wharf is worth prioritising over the Treasure Dealer if you are working on Edward’s gear upgrades. Build this one first, then the Treasure Dealer when map fragments start piling up.

All Great Inagua Manor Upgrades

The three manor upgrades are unlocked from the Manage Hideout table inside the west wing of the Great Inagua manor. Each one is more expensive than the last. Together they cost 32,000 Reales. Every upgrade adds a fleet berth to Kenway’s Fleet and expands the Protection Money Box.

Facade — 4,000 Reales

The Facade is the first manor upgrade and the one to grab as soon as you can afford it. It physically restores the front of the manor and, more importantly, unlocks the Protection Money Box. This box passively accumulates Reales over time while you are out exploring the Caribbean. It fills up steadily and you can collect the accumulated gold whenever you return to Great Inagua.

The Facade also adds one ship berth to Kenway’s Fleet. That is an extra slot for a Schooner or Brig to run money-making missions in the background.

Tower and Garden — 8,000 Reales

Requires: Facade built first.

The Tower and Garden upgrade increases the maximum protection money the box can hold before it needs to be collected. If the cap is too low and you forget to visit for a while, you lose the overflow. This upgrade raises that ceiling so you can go longer between visits without losing passive income. It also adds another fleet berth.

Guesthouse — 20,000 Reales

Requires: Tower and Garden built first.

The Guesthouse is the most expensive single upgrade in the game. It raises the protection money cap even further, adds a third fleet berth from the manor chain, and completes the physical restoration of the manor exterior. Once you build this, talk to Bernard Woodhouse at the Guesthouse to trigger the Former Glories quest completion and collect the Edward the Legend outfit.

Best Upgrade Order — What to Build First

Not all upgrades pay off at the same time. Here is the order that gives you the most benefit earliest in the game.

Step 1 — Harbourmaster I, General Store I, Tavern (1,100 Reales total)
Do all three of these immediately. Together they give you ship upgrade access, a place to buy ammo and remedies, and the key that unlocks three more buildings. Spending 1,100 Reales this early is almost free compared to what you will be earning soon.

Step 2 — Facade (4,000 Reales)
Get the Facade as soon as you can afford it. The Protection Money Box starts filling from the moment you build it. Every minute you delay is passive income you are not collecting. It also adds a fleet berth, which means one more ship running missions.

Step 3 — Harbourmaster II and General Store II (2,500 Reales each)
Upgrade both to Tier II when your Reales allow. Harbourmaster II opens Tier III Jackdaw upgrades. General Store II adds the Lodestone trinket, which auto-loots corpses and saves you a lot of time over the course of the game.

Step 4 — Campfire and Brothel (6,000 Reales each)
Build these once you have the mid-game income flowing. The Campfire adds two fleet berths and free crew. The Brothel boosts boarding damage, which speeds up every naval fight from here on.

Step 5 — Fisherman’s Wharf and Treasure Dealer (5,000 Reales each)
The Fisherman’s Wharf pays back quickly if you are hunting sharks for crafting materials. Build it before the Treasure Dealer unless you already have a stack of map fragments waiting to be restored.

Step 6 — Tower and Garden, Harbourmaster III, General Store III
These are late-game investments. Tower and Garden raises your protection money cap. Harbourmaster III and General Store III unlock the highest-tier ship and gear upgrades in the game.

Step 7 — Guesthouse (20,000 Reales)
Save this for last. It is the single most expensive upgrade and is purely a completion investment. Build it when you have finished everything else and have surplus Reales.

Former Glories Side Quest — Completion and Reward

The Former Glories side quest tracks your hideout restoration progress. It unlocks the moment This Old Cove ends and stays active until every building is restored and every manor upgrade is purchased.

Once all ten village and dock upgrades are done and all three manor upgrades are complete, a quest marker appears near the Guesthouse. Find Bernard Woodhouse there and interact with him. A short cutscene plays, and you receive the Edward the Legend outfit — a Legendary cosmetic representing Kenway in his later years as a pirate. It does not change any stats but is one of the most visually striking outfits in the game.

This quest also ties to the Governor trophy and achievement, which requires fully upgrading the village section of Great Inagua. If you are working toward the Platinum, do not skip it.

Passive Income from Great Inagua

Three of the hideout upgrades generate passive Reales over time. These stack and keep paying out while you explore the map.

  • Protection Money Box (Facade) — accumulates Reales passively. Collect when you return to Great Inagua. Tower and Garden and the Guesthouse increase the cap.
  • Treasure Dealer — increases hideout passive profit over time once built.
  • Fisherman’s Wharf — increases hideout passive profit over time and doubles animal skin yield from sea kills.

The passive income from these buildings is modest on its own. But combined with Kenway’s Fleet Trade and Piracy missions and looting chests during exploration, it keeps your Reales flowing without you having to grind. For more ways to stock up fast, see our Metal and Wood farming guide.

What Upgrades Add Fleet Berths

If fleet management is your priority, here are all the upgrades that add ship slots to Kenway’s Fleet:

  • Campfire — adds 2 fleet berths
  • Facade — adds 1 fleet berth
  • Tower and Garden — adds 1 fleet berth
  • Guesthouse — adds 1 fleet berth

Between these four upgrades you gain five additional fleet slots. Combined with the base starting slots, this lets you build a full 10-ship fleet needed for the most profitable Kenway’s Fleet setup. Our Kenway’s Fleet guide covers the best composition once those slots are unlocked.

The Treasure Hoard Room

There is one bonus feature in the manor worth knowing about. Inside the west wing, a set of stairs leads up to the Treasure Hoard room. The amount of gold visible in this room changes based on your current Reales balance. The more Reales you have, the more impressive the hoard looks. If you spend everything, the room looks sparse. It is a nice visual touch that reflects your wealth in real time.

Great Inagua Mayan Stone

While you are on Great Inagua, do not forget to collect the Mayan Stone hidden on the island. It is part of the full Mayan Mysteries side quest. See our Great Inagua Mayan Stone walkthrough for the exact location.
