TL;DR
- Finders Keepers starts when you pick up the Treasure Map: Silver Cache during The Cursed Chasm quest.
- The map is inside a broken barrel on the canyon floor, west of the Coward’s Path Shrine.
- You need a shovel to dig up the treasure — find one near the dig site east of the cave, or grab one in Parlita beforehand.
- The treasure is buried northwest of the Briar Slough Hillock Shrine, at the base of a slanted rock.
- Clear a pack of wolves and a Pack Leader before you dig — combat cancels the excavation.
- Digging costs 2 Time Segments, so save before you start.
- Rewards: 100 XP, 1 Skill Point, 41 Denarii, a Silver Cache Letter, and several silver items to sell.
- Sell silver items at the Silver Trader in Svartrau City — nowhere else gives you full value.
The Finders Keepers quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker is a classic treasure hunt with a twist — no NPC hands it to you, no marker points to the loot, and if you show up without a shovel, you walk away empty-handed. It starts with a scrap of parchment found deep inside a chasm, and it ends with a buried chest guarded by a wolf pack in the woods. This guide walks you through every step so you don’t waste a single time segment figuring it out yourself.

What Is the Finders Keepers Quest?
Finders Keepers is a side quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker tied to the aftermath of a failed noble escape. After Knyaz Skender was overthrown by Brencis, some of his followers tried to flee Vale Sangora with a hoard of silver and treasure. They didn’t make it. Their convoy fell into a chasm, and everything they carried was buried or lost.
You stumble onto a piece of that story when looting the chasm during The Cursed Chasm quest. You find a treasure map. The map leads you to a hidden silver stash somewhere in the Briar Sloughs woods. The quest has no fail state and no time limit beyond the general 30-day clock — but the dig itself costs time, so it is worth doing properly and quickly.
How to Unlock Finders Keepers — The Cursed Chasm First
You cannot start Finders Keepers without first entering The Cursed Chasm. Here is how to get there:
- Fast travel to the Coward’s Path Shrine in the Briar Sloughs region.
- Head northwest toward the mountains and look for a broken bridge above a gorge.
- Approaching the broken bridge or the wreckage at the canyon floor triggers The Cursed Chasm quest automatically. You can also hear about it beforehand from the Innkeeper at the tavern on the western edge of Altenmarkt in Svartrau City — ask him for local gossip and he’ll tell you about Knyaz Skender’s men who fell into a chasm with their treasure.
- Drop into the gorge. You face a pack of wolves and a powerful wraith called the Echo. The Echo is the hardest enemy here — it summons smaller wraiths and hits hard, so fight the wolves first and handle the Echo carefully.
- Once the area is clear, use Focus Mode on the debris field below the bridge. Loot the golden remains to get the legendary longsword Durandal, the final report from Captain Bojidar, and other silver loot.
- Keep looting the other broken barrels and debris nearby. One of them contains the Treasure Map: Silver Cache. Pick it up — this instantly starts the Finders Keepers quest and adds it to your journal.
Important: The Cursed Chasm costs 2 Time Segments. Factor this into your day planning before you commit. It is best to go at around Level 11 or higher — at lower levels, enemies here show red skull indicators and can kill Coen in one hit.
Where to Find a Shovel Before You Go
This is where most players get tripped up. You need a shovel to excavate the Silver Cache. The game does not make this obvious until you’re already standing at the dig site.
There are two ways to get one:
- Option 1 – Parlita town: Head to Parlita and find the main tavern (look for the mug icon on the map). While standing in front of the tavern entrance, go to the right side near the sheds and stacked wood. The shovel is leaning against the tavern wall. Grab it before heading to the treasure.
- Option 2 – Near the dig site: If you arrive empty-handed, there is a shovel hidden east of the cave entrance at the dig site itself. It is resting on a rock, partially hidden by bushes. Turn on Focus Mode to highlight it so you can spot it fast.
Either works — but grabbing it in Parlita on your way through is the safer option. You don’t want to fumble around searching for a tool while wolves are on you.
Finders Keepers Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Once you have the treasure map and ideally a shovel, here is exactly how to complete Finders Keepers:
Step 1 – Start at Coward’s Path Shrine
Fast travel to the Coward’s Path Shrine in Briar Sloughs. This is the shrine referenced on the treasure map as your first landmark. From here, head northeast along the dirt road.
Step 2 – Follow the Road to the Crossroads
Walk northeast up the road until Coen makes a comment about reaching a crossroads. This is your second landmark cue. Take the fork heading north into the tree line. Do not continue northeast past this point.
Step 3 – Pass the Ruined Cabin and Graveyard
Keep following the path north. You will pass through a wooden arch and encounter some hostile boars. Just ahead is a ruined cabin surrounded by graves. This is the third landmark on the map — the crosses in the forest. Investigate the area if you want, but the treasure is not here. The path continues northeast out of the graveyard into the deeper woods.
Step 4 – Head Northwest from Briar Slough Hillock Shrine
Continue along the trail until you are close to the Briar Slough Hillock Shrine. Activate the shrine here if you haven’t already — it gives you a fast travel point right next to the dig site for future use. From the shrine, turn northwest and keep walking uphill until you see a large slanted rock with a shallow cave at its base. This is your destination.
Step 5 – Kill the Wolves and the Pack Leader
The slanted rock is guarded by roughly half a dozen wolves and a Pack Leader. The Pack Leader is essentially a much bigger, harder-hitting wolf with its own health bar — not a full boss, but not something to ignore either. Clear every single enemy in the area before you attempt to dig. Combat interrupts the excavation, which means you have to start the two-hour dig all over again if even one wolf is still alive when you begin.
Tip: If you have the Durandal longsword from The Cursed Chasm, this is a great fight to test it out. Its bonus damage against animals makes these wolves noticeably easier to handle.
Step 6 – Use Focus Mode to Find the Dig Spot
With the wolves gone, activate Focus Mode and sweep it across the ground inside and just outside the shallow cave. A patch of disturbed earth lights up — this is where the Silver Cache is buried. Walk up to it and press the interaction button to begin digging.
Step 7 – Dig Up the Silver Cache
The excavation takes 2 in-game hours. This is not a trivial cost — save your game before you start so you can reload if needed. When the dig is done, a chest appears. Open it and loot everything inside to complete the Finders Keepers quest.
Finders Keepers Rewards — What’s Inside the Silver Cache
Opening the chest gives you:
- 100 XP
- 1 Skill Point
- 41 Denarii
- Several silver items (silver trinkets, silver goods)
- Silver Cache Letter — a note explaining that the silver belongs to the rightful ruler of Vale Sangora and was meant to be used in the fight against the Vrakhiri. It also warns against using it for personal gain.
The silver items themselves are the real prize. They are not worth much at a regular merchant — but if you take them to the Silver Trader in Svartrau City, you get full value. Selling silver anywhere else leaves a lot of Denarii on the table, especially this early in the game.

Tips for Finders Keepers
- Do The Cursed Chasm early but not too early. Wait until around Level 11 to avoid getting one-shot inside the chasm.
- Always carry a shovel after picking up the treasure map. Nothing is worse than reaching the dig site and realising you can’t excavate.
- Save before digging. The 2-hour time cost is real. If you’re tight on time or unsure about the reward, save first and reload if needed.
- Clear wolves before interacting with the ground. Any combat during the dig cancels it completely. Kill everything first.
- Use Focus Mode at the dig site. The disturbed earth blends into the terrain. Focus Mode makes it glow and saves you minutes of wandering around.
- Don’t confuse this map with others. There are other treasure maps in Blood of Dawnwalker. This one — the Silver Cache — is specifically found in the chasm during The Cursed Chasm. Each map leads to a different dig site.
- Sell silver at the right merchant. Take your silver loot to the Silver Trader in Svartrau City, not a general vendor.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you start the Finders Keepers quest in Blood of Dawnwalker?
Finders Keepers starts automatically when you pick up the Treasure Map: Silver Cache during The Cursed Chasm quest. The map is found inside a broken barrel on the canyon floor, west of the Coward’s Path Shrine in Briar Sloughs. No NPC gives you this quest — it’s entirely loot-triggered.
Where is the shovel for Finders Keepers?
You can grab a shovel from Parlita town — look on the right side of the main tavern near the sheds; it’s leaning against the wall. Alternatively, there is a shovel near the dig site itself, hidden on a rock east of the cave entrance. Turn on Focus Mode to highlight it quickly.
Where is the Silver Cache treasure in Finders Keepers?
The Silver Cache is buried at the base of a slanted rock northwest of the Briar Slough Hillock Shrine. Fast travel to that shrine, head northwest uphill, and look for a shallow cave at the base of a large angled rock. Clear the wolves and Pack Leader guarding it, then use Focus Mode to find the dig spot in the cave.
What do you get from the Finders Keepers quest?
Completing Finders Keepers gives you 100 XP, 1 Skill Point, 41 Denarii, a Silver Cache Letter, and several silver items. The silver items are best sold at the Silver Trader in Svartrau City for maximum Denarii. Selling them to a regular merchant gives significantly less money.
