    Letters to Lunka Quest

    TL;DR

    • Letters to Lunka is a quest chain tied to five small moth fairies called Sanzhani spread across Vale Sangora.
    • You unlock it by completing the Good Home quest first — this is your gateway to the whole chain.
    • Each Sanzhani quest you finish lets you send one letter to your sister Lunka in Griefberg Castle.
    • Complete all five and the Sanzhani Tsarina gives you +1 extra day before Brencis’ coronation.
    • You also earn the The Tsarina’s Favorite Human achievement and 250 XP.
    • Lunka’s replies land in your Quest Items tab in your inventory — read them all to complete the quest.

The Letters to Lunka quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker is one of the most rewarding side quest chains in the whole game. On the surface it looks like a small optional task. But finish it and you get something no other quest can give you — an extra day on the clock. In a game where time is the most valuable resource, that is a huge deal. This guide walks you through every step, every location, and every quest task so you don’t miss a single letter.

Before you dive in, if you need help with the Blood of Dawnwalker prologue walkthrough, we have that covered. You should also check out our guide on how to improve Coen’s mother’s condition if you’re juggling family-related story beats alongside this questline.

What Is the Letters to Lunka Quest?

Lunka is Coen’s sister. She is being held hostage inside Griefberg Castle, and you have no direct way to talk to her. That changes when you discover the Sanzhani — small moth-like fairy creatures that live in hidden burrows across Vale Sangora. These fairies have the unique ability to sneak into the dungeon and whisper messages directly into Lunka’s ear.

Each time you help a Sanzhani with their problem, the Sanzhani Tsarina (the leader at the main burrow) lets you send one letter. Lunka writes back, and her reply appears in your Quest Items tab in your inventory after one in-game day passes. You need to read all five replies to fully complete the Letters to Lunka quest and claim your final reward.

How to Start Letters to Lunka

You cannot jump straight into this quest. You have to complete the Good Home quest first. That is the prerequisite that opens everything else up.

Here is how to start Good Home and unlock the chain:

    • Fast travel to the Sandy Gorge Shrine in the Svartrau Outskirts.
    • Head east along the ravine and look for a ring of glowing red mushrooms on the ground.
    • Interact with the mushroom ring — this starts Good Home automatically.
    • Follow the trail of glowing mushroom rings until you reach the Sanzhani burrow. Crouch and enter.
    • Inside, you meet Heile, a young girl living with the Sanzhani. She asks you to find her brother Tonis.
    • Track down Tonis. The game points you toward Oghasti (now a plague-hit ghost town) and the Wooden Palace. You can skip the investigation sites and go straight to the burner camp if you want to save time.
    • At the end, you make a choice: convince Tonis to let Heile stay with the Sanzhani, or bring Tonis and Heile back together (requires 3 Shiny Teeth collected from dead human enemies).
    • Either way, once Good Home ends, the Sanzhani Tsarina tells you that her kind can carry messages to Lunka — and the Letters to Lunka quest officially begins.

Tip: Carry at least 3 Shiny Teeth before the final conversation in Good Home. You get them by looting dead human enemies. One guaranteed one is inside the haystack in the pig pen near Andrei’s house in Svartrau City.

All Five Sanzhani Locations and Quest Tasks

After Good Home is done, four more Sanzhani quests become available one by one across the map. The next quest marker only shows up after you send the previous letter from the Tsarina’s burrow. So after each quest, go back to the burrow, send a letter, and then the next marker appears.

Here are all five quests in the Letters to Lunka chain:

    1. Good Home (Quest 1)

    • Location: Center of Svartrau Outskirts, north of Sandy Gorge Shrine
    • Task: Find Heile’s brother Tonis and resolve the situation
    • Reward: 100 XP, 1 Skill Point, access to Letters to Lunka

This is the first quest and the gateway to the whole chain. Complete it and you send your first letter to Lunka.

    2. Pearly and Precious (Quest 2)

    • Location: South of the Briar Sloughs region, across the river from the Small Bridge Shrine
    • Task: Cross the river to find an abandoned camp. Use Focus Mode to follow the trail. You find a Sanzhani that has made a deal with local bandits — they bring her corpses for teeth. Kill the bandits to sort things out.
    • Bonus: Completing this unlocks a Sanzhani trader NPC. She buys Shiny Tooth items from you for 150 denarii each. She also sells skill manuals and the Fear of the Wilds legendary amulet. She stocks Silk Thread too, though it costs around 5,750 denarii.

Note: The Small Bridge Shrine might show as a Destroyed Shrine on your map depending on your progress — it still works as a fast travel point either way.

    3. Tiny Dancer (Quest 3)

    • Location: Center of Svartrau City, south of the Altenmarkt marker, west of The Cathedral Complex
    • Task: Walk into the middle of the Altenmarkt square. You will hear the Sanzhani before you see it — that sound triggers the quest. Climb up to the balcony of a nearby townhouse and head inside. You need to be in vampire form to reach the balcony easily. Grab the key from the desk inside and use it to free the fairy from a cage.
    • Optional: You can go into the next room and take the silver from the man inside — but you will have to kill him if you do.

    4. Come Hither (Quest 4)

    • Location: East of the Silty Mug Inn Shrine, north of the Vedera Marsh Guardpost, in The Silts region
    • Task: Follow the road east from the Silty Mug Inn until you spot two large leafless trees to the north, across a small bridge. Head there to find the Sanzhani. She tells you a Murohn (a feral, part-vrakhiri creature) has taken over her burrow. Drop down into the cavernous area and kill the Murohn.
    • Bonus: After defeating the Murohn, look around for free Silk Threads — these are needed for the A Bulwark Against Darkness quest and cost nothing here.

    5. Burrow Sorrows (Quest 5)

    • Location: Northwest of the Rockfalls region, south of the Giant’s Pawns Shrine, southwest of Parlita
    • Task: Head to the Boarback Trail Shrine (may appear as a Destroyed Shrine), then go north into the woods. Find the final Sanzhani in this wooded area. Her burrow has been overrun by Kobolds. Clear out the Kobolds to reclaim the burrow for her.

This is the one players miss most often — Pearly and Precious is the other common miss. Both require you to search an area rather than interact with an obvious marker, so keep Focus Mode on.

The Letters and How to Read Them

After each quest, go back to the Yawning Burrow and talk to the Sanzhani Tsarina. She sends your message to Lunka. You have to wait one full in-game day for Lunka to reply. Once that day passes, her letter appears in your Quest Items tab inside your inventory.

You can batch a few quests before returning to send letters, or you can return to the burrow after every single quest. Either works. Just don’t forget to return — the next quest marker won’t appear until you send the previous letter from the burrow.

Read all five of Lunka’s letters to officially complete the Letters to Lunka quest. You get 250 XP when the last one is read.

Final Reward — The Tsarina Gives You Extra Time

After you finish all five Sanzhani quests and return to the burrow one last time, the Sanzhani Tsarina rewards you with something no other side content in the game can offer: +1 extra day before Brencis’ coronation.

In The Blood of Dawnwalker, you have 30 in-game days to save your family before Brencis is crowned and the window closes. Every hour matters. Getting a free extra day from the Tsarina is one of the best moves you can make early in the game. Fold these five quests into routes you are already running — Good Home and Tiny Dancer are both close to Svartrau, Come Hither is a quick detour from the inn, and Burrow Sorrows fits naturally once you’re working through Rockfalls.

You also unlock the The Tsarina’s Favorite Human achievement/trophy when the last quest is done.

Tips to Do This Quest Efficiently

    • Do Good Home early — the sooner you unlock the chain, the sooner you start sending letters and gaining time.
    • Carry Shiny Teeth at all times. You need 3 for one Good Home ending, and you can sell extras to the Sanzhani trader unlocked by Pearly and Precious for 150 denarii each.
    • Grab the free Silk Thread during Come Hither. This saves you nearly 5,750 denarii if you need it for A Bulwark Against Darkness.
    • Use Focus Mode when searching for Sanzhani in Pearly and Precious and Burrow Sorrows — both require tracking a trail rather than walking to an obvious spot.
    • Don’t batch all quests without returning to the burrow. The next quest marker only unlocks after you send the previous letter to Lunka from the Tsarina. If you do all five quests in a row without checking in, you’ll have to backtrack.
    • Check your Quest Items tab regularly after each day passes to read Lunka’s replies.

If you’re also working through other side content in the area, check our walkthrough for the Wisp Treasure Hunt in Watermill Hills and our guide to Echoes of Silenced Bells — both are nearby and worth doing in the same session.
