Good Home Quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker
The Good Home quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker is one of the first major side quests you will come across in the open world after the prologue. It is part of the Sanzhani questline – a chain of five quests that connects to the Letters to Lunka mission, which can actually earn you an extra in-game day before Brencis’ coronation. So this is not just a random story diversion. It matters. The quest puts you in the middle of a sibling reunion with a painful twist, and the ending is entirely in your hands. Before diving in, check out our guide on The Blood of Dawnwalker prologue walkthrough if you just finished the opening and are new to the open world. Also, our Letters to Lunka quest guide covers what happens next after you finish Good Home.
How to Start the Good Home Quest
You need to have finished the prologue (the Smoke and Ashes quest) before this quest becomes available. Once you are in the open world, head to the Sandy Gorge Shrine in the central Svartrau Outskirts area. From there, go north and then east along the ravine.
You will notice glowing red mushroom rings scattered through the forest. Follow them from one ring to the next – they are acting as a trail. Keep following the lights through the trees until they guide you to the Sanzhani burrows, a hidden underground dwelling in the Middens area.
Important tip: Before you enter the burrow, make sure you have a beer or wine in your inventory. You will need it when you find Tonis later. You can loot alcoholic drinks from human enemies or find them in chests while exploring.
Crouch down and enter the burrow to begin the quest.
Step 1 – Meet Heile in the Burrow
Inside the burrow you will find a young girl named Heile, who has been living with the Sanzhani – small moth-like fairy creatures. She seems happy and cared for, but she misses her older brother Tonis and wants to see him again.
Speak to Heile and follow the yellow dialogue options to learn her story. She will ask you to search for Tonis and gives you two locations to start with: the town of Oghasti to the southwest and the Wooden Palace nearby.
Step 2 – Investigate Oghasti (Optional but Useful)
You can skip Oghasti and the Wooden Palace entirely and go straight to the Burner Camp if you want to save time. Skipping just changes a few optional dialogue lines later in the quest. The core quest progresses the same way regardless.
That said, here is what you will find if you investigate:
Head to the Eastern Road to Oghasti Shrine and look for a house with blue shutters. A plague cross is marked near the entrance. Use Focus Mode (L2 on PlayStation or LT on Xbox) to spot highlighted points of interest. Go inside and examine the two bodies and other clues. This will consume some time, so be aware of that.
Step 3 – Check the Wooden Palace (Optional)
The Wooden Palace is located slightly southwest of Oghasti. Head inside the white building and use Focus Mode to examine the clues. The most important ones are on the upper floor: a candle, an apple, an axe, and a soot-covered chair.
These clues let Coen piece together that someone has been regularly visiting this building to light the candle – almost certainly for Heile. The axe and the soot on the chair point clearly toward a coal burner from a nearby camp. This investigation also reveals smoke rising in the distance, pointing you west toward the Burner Camp.
Step 4 – Find Tonis at the Burner Camp
Head to the Woodcutter’s Camp, south of the Woodcutter’s Camp Shrine. Speak with the Coal Burner Chief at the camp and ask about Tonis. He confirms a man named Tonis works there but tends to live alone a bit further out in the forest.
Follow the trees marked with X symbols northeast from the camp. Watch out for a bear roaming the area – if you are underlevelled, keep your distance and go around it. Keep following the marked trees deeper into the forest until you spot Tonis chopping wood by a small campfire.
Step 5 – Talk to Tonis (Important Choice)
This is your first meaningful choice in the quest, and it affects your time budget significantly.
When you approach Tonis, he is not immediately willing to open up. You get two options to get him talking:
- Offer him a drink – This is the time-efficient option. Hand over the beer or wine you brought and Tonis loosens up quickly. No time segments are spent here beyond what is already happening.
- Offer to help with his work – This costs 3 time segments. It is extremely inefficient and should be avoided unless you genuinely have time to spare.
Always go with the drink option. It gets the same result without draining your clock. Once you get him talking, explain that Heile is alive and that she wants to see him. He will agree to come with you.
Step 6 – Bring Tonis to the Burrow
After Tonis agrees to follow you, you get another small choice:
- “Sure thing. Follow me.” – You travel together to the Sanzhani burrow automatically.
- “I’ll meet you there.” – Tonis heads there on his own and you travel separately. You will need to go to the burrow manually.
Both work fine. The first option is more convenient since it just takes you straight there. Make your way back to the Sanzhani burrow where Heile is waiting.
Step 7 – The Tsarina Appears (Big Choice)
When Tonis enters the burrow and reunites with Heile, things get complicated. The Sanzhani Tsarina – the leader of the Sanzhani – reveals herself. Tonis insists that Heile should come home and live with him. The Tsarina disagrees.
You are now the deciding voice in the room. This is the heart of the quest and where the endings split.
All Good Home Quest Choices and Endings Explained
Ending 1 – Let Heile Stay With the Sanzhani (Best / Safest Ending)
Convince Tonis to let Heile remain in the burrow with the Sanzhani. The dialogue options that lead to this include lines like:
- “Tonis, Heile is happy here. Let her stay.”
- “You can’t provide for her. She’s safe here. For the first time in her life.”
- “The girl should live among her own kind.”
- “They have a point, Tonis…”
If you push these points, Tonis reluctantly accepts. Heile stays with the Sanzhani and Tonis is allowed to visit her once per moon. The Tsarina mentions that Heile will not stay forever and must eventually return to the human world when she is ready. But for now, she is safe and cared for.
This is considered the most peaceful ending. Nobody dies, the siblings can still see each other, and Heile is protected. The quest ends quickly once Tonis agrees, saving you time segments.
After this ending, the Sanzhani Tsarina will speak to you and offer to help you send a letter to your sister Lunka through the Sanzhani network. This unlocks the Letters to Lunka questline.
Ending 2 – Let Heile Return Home With Tonis (Requires 3 Shiny Teeth)
If you side with Tonis and want to convince the Tsarina to let Heile leave, she will not simply agree. She makes a demand first: bring her three Shiny Teeth from dead human enemies in exchange for Heile’s freedom.
Here is how to get Shiny Teeth:
- Loot dead human enemies across Vale Sangora – they drop randomly from most human enemy types.
- One guaranteed Shiny Tooth is inside the haystack in the pig pen next to Andrei’s house in Svartrau City.
- The Sanzhani Tsarina also buys them for 150 Denarii each once you have established a relationship with the Sanzhani.
Once you have all three, return to the Tsarina and hand them over. Heile is allowed to leave with her brother.
In this ending, Heile goes home with Tonis. Their future is described as difficult – Tonis struggles to provide for both of them – but Heile does her best to help. There is also a mention that she is getting old enough that some of the Coal Burners have already asked for her hand, which adds a layer of unease to this outcome.
After handing over the teeth, the Tsarina will still speak to you and unlock the Letters to Lunka quest. But you need to hand over the three teeth first before she will talk about Lunka.
Tip: Have your three Shiny Teeth ready before you reach the final conversation in the burrow. If you go in without them, you will need to leave, farm the drops, and return. It is much smoother to come prepared.
Ending 3 – Tonis Dies (Worst Ending)
If the conversation with Tonis escalates into a confrontation – for example if you provoke him into attacking the Sanzhani rather than negotiating a resolution – things go very badly. Tonis ends up dead, leaving Heile without her closest surviving family member.
This is the outcome nobody wants. Heile has nowhere left to go and the story takes a much darker turn. Avoid this ending unless you are deliberately going for it to see all outcomes.
Ending 4 – Quest Fails (Timed Out)
There is also a fail state. If you run out of time dealing with Brencis before finishing this quest, the game closes it out with a note that you did not have time to help the siblings. The quest ends without resolution. This is rare since Good Home has no strict time limit in the traditional sense, but if you abandon it entirely while focused on the main story, you may miss it.
What Happens After Good Home?
No matter which ending you get (as long as it is not the fail state), completing Good Home unlocks two major things:
- Letters to Lunka – The Sanzhani Tsarina offers to help Coen send letters to his sister Lunka, who is being held by Brencis. Completing all five Sanzhani quests in this chain rewards you with +1 extra day before Brencis’ coronation, 250 XP, and the Tsarina’s Favourite Human achievement.
- Access to the remaining Sanzhani questline – Good Home is the first entry in a five-quest chain: Good Home, Come Hither, Burrow Sorrows, Pearly and Precious, and Tiny Dancer.

Good Home Quest Rewards
- 100 XP – standard quest experience payout.
- 1 Skill Point – useful for unlocking new abilities.
- Unlocks Letters to Lunka – the most important reward, since this chain earns you extra in-game time.
You can pick up The Blood of Dawnwalker on PlayStation Store, Xbox, or Steam.
Tips Before You Start Good Home
- Carry alcohol before entering the burrow. Beer or wine is needed to convince Tonis to talk without spending 3 time segments. Loot it from enemies or chests beforehand.
- Carry 3 Shiny Teeth if you want Heile to go home with Tonis. Farm them from human enemies before the final scene or grab the guaranteed one from the pig pen haystack near Andrei’s house in Svartrau City.
- Skip Oghasti and the Wooden Palace if you are tight on time. These locations only add optional context and extra dialogue. The quest works fine without them.
- Do not offer to help Tonis with his work. It costs 3 time segments for no real benefit over just handing him a drink.
- Watch for the bear near the marked trees. It roams close to the path leading to Tonis. Go around it if you are not ready for that fight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the Good Home quest start in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Head to the Sandy Gorge Shrine in the Svartrau Outskirts, then go north and east along the ravine. Follow the glowing red mushroom rings through the forest until they lead you to the Sanzhani burrow. Crouch and enter to trigger the quest by meeting Heile.
What is the best ending for the Good Home quest?
The safest and most peaceful ending is convincing Tonis to let Heile stay with the Sanzhani. She remains protected, Tonis survives, and he can still visit her once a month. Nobody dies, and it costs the least time of all the outcomes.
How do I get Shiny Teeth in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Shiny Teeth drop randomly when you loot dead human enemies. One guaranteed Shiny Tooth can be found in the haystack inside the pig pen next to Andrei’s house in Svartrau City. You need three of them to unlock the ending where Heile leaves with Tonis.
Does the Good Home quest affect the main story?
Not directly, but it unlocks the Letters to Lunka questline, which is tied to a very meaningful reward. Completing all five Sanzhani quests in that chain earns you an extra day before Brencis’ coronation – and in a game built around a 30-day countdown, that extra time genuinely matters.
