Lost Blood Quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker

The Lost Blood quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker is a compact but emotionally gripping side quest. It starts in the swampy stretch of St. Tyna’s Grove and ends in Svartrau City with a grieving father. You are not just fighting a monster here – you are piecing together the sad story of someone who lost everything to vampiric corruption. If you are exploring the open world after the prologue, this quest is easy to stumble across and well worth completing. It rewards you with a Phial of Ambrus’s Blood, which unlocks a useful ability in the Vampirism skill tree. Lost Blood Quest In The Blood of Dawnwalker

How to Start the Lost Blood Quest

The quest triggers automatically once you get close to two locations in the northern part of St. Tyna’s Grove. You do not need to talk to anyone or accept it from a quest board. Just explore and it begins.

You are looking for one of these two entry points:

    • The blood transport wreckage – a smashed cart with broken barrels leaking blood, located north of the Pilgrim’s Trail Shrine.
    • The cave entrance – found just to the west of the cart. You can enter this first if you prefer to fight the boss before investigating.

Both routes lead to the same result. If you approach the cart first, you will see the blood-soaked ground and can trigger the quest from there. If you find the cave first, the quest still activates and you can trace back to the cart afterward.

Step 1 – Investigate the Blood Transport Cart

Head north from the Pilgrim’s Trail Shrine and look for a wrecked cart surrounded by shattered wooden barrels filled with blood. Use Focus Mode (hold L2 on PlayStation or LT on Xbox) to examine the scene. This highlights important clues in gold so they are easy to spot.

Once you activate Focus Mode near the cart, the blood trail on the ground becomes visible. Follow it west toward the cave entrance. The trail is clearly marked while you are in Focus Mode, so tracking it is straightforward.

Step 2 – Enter the Cave and Defeat the Murohn

Follow the blood trail from the cart into the cave to the west. Inside, you will find a Murohn – a creature that was once human but has been driven mad by vampiric corruption. This is a boss encounter, so be prepared for a real fight.

The Murohn is not a simple enemy. Use the directional combat system and time your blocks carefully. Dodge when it charges and punish the gaps in its attacks. Once you bring it down, loot its body.

From the Murohn’s corpse, you get:

    • Phial of Ambrus’s Blood – a consumable that unlocks the Scarlet Shield passive in the Vampirism tree. Drinking it increases your Corruption level significantly, so be aware of that tradeoff.
    • Mysterious Ring – a personal item tied to the quest’s story.

Also look for the Letter from Father on the ground near the body. Reading this letter is what advances the quest and points you toward Silberstein.

Step 3 – Read the Letter from Father

The Letter from Father, found next to the Murohn corpse on the cave floor, reveals that the creature you just killed was once a person – someone’s son. The letter was written by a merchant from Silberstein, clearly someone who cared deeply about the person the Murohn used to be.

This clue tells you exactly where to go next: find the letter’s author in Silberstein, a district in Svartrau City. This is the part where the quest shifts from a combat mission to something a bit more personal.

Step 4 – Travel to the Silberstein General Trader in Svartrau City

Open your fast travel menu and head to the Silberstein Shrine on the eastern side of Svartrau City. From there, go south and you will find the Silberstein General Trader. This is the merchant who wrote the letter – the father of the Murohn you killed.

Speak to him and tell him what you found. You have two dialogue options:

    • “He wasn’t human anymore!” – more direct about what happened.
    • “I am sorry.” – softer and more sympathetic.

Neither choice has a meaningful impact on the quest outcome. Pick whichever feels right to you. After you speak to him, he closes his shop because he is understandably shaken by the news. You cannot finish the quest right away – you need to wait.

Step 5 – Wait One In-Game Day and Return

After the initial conversation, the Silberstein General Trader needs time to grieve. His shop stays closed until roughly one in-game day has passed. You can pass time by exploring, doing other quests, or resting. Do not waste time standing around waiting.

Once a day has passed, return to the Silberstein General Trader and speak to him again. He apologizes for snapping at you and thanks you for ending his son’s suffering. He also gives you more details about what happened to his son – filling in the backstory of the Murohn.

Step 6 – Make Your Choice About the Mysterious Ring

At the end of the second conversation, the trader asks whether you still have the ring you found on his son’s body.

    • Say “I do” – He will offer to buy it back from you. Interestingly, you can also purchase it back right after the transaction. The only real consequence is some coin changing hands.
    • Say “I don’t” – He accepts this without issue. You keep the ring.

There is no lasting impact from either choice. If you want to hold onto the Mysterious Ring, just tell him you no longer have it. The quest wraps up cleanly either way.

    Lost Blood Quest Rewards

Here is a quick summary of what you earn by completing Lost Blood:

    • Phial of Ambrus’s Blood – looted from the Murohn during the quest. Drinking it unlocks the Scarlet Shield ability in the Vampirism skill tree, which gives Coen a chance to restore health after blocking attacks.
    • Coin reward – from the trader at the end of the second conversation.
    • Quest completion XP – standard side quest experience payout.
    • Mysterious Ring – if you choose to keep it by telling the trader you no longer have it.

The Phial of Ambrus’s Blood is the most valuable reward here from a gameplay standpoint. If you want to understand the full power system, take a look at our guide on how to get ability slots in The Blood of Dawnwalker.

Tips and Things to Know Before You Start

    • You can do this quest in reverse. Enter the cave first, defeat the Murohn, then trace the blood trail back to the cart. The quest works the same way either direction.
    • You can skip the cart investigation entirely. If you just head straight to the cave, the quest still progresses. But following the blood trail makes it a lot easier to navigate if you are not familiar with the area.
    • The trader’s shop stays closed until time passes. If you try to return too early, the quest will not update. Just do something else for a while and come back.
    • The Murohn respects you about as much as it respects the blood supply. Meaning, not at all. Bring your best sword.
    • The Mysterious Ring carries no special stats. It is a story item. The decision to keep or return it is purely a roleplay choice.

Is the Lost Blood Quest Worth Doing?

Yes, and for more than one reason. First, the Phial of Ambrus’s Blood is genuinely useful. The Scarlet Shield passive it unlocks is a solid defensive ability for building around the Vampirism skill tree. Second, the story beats here are short but well-written. The tragedy of the Murohn and the father-son angle land surprisingly hard for a side quest this brief.

It is also one of the cleaner side quests in the game to complete. No complicated decision trees, no missable steps, no tight time limits. You just need to know where to go and when to return. You can pick up The Blood of Dawnwalker on PlayStation Store, Xbox, or Steam.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the Lost Blood quest start in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

It starts automatically in St. Tyna’s Grove, north of the Pilgrim’s Trail Shrine. Approach either the wrecked blood transport cart or the nearby cave entrance to the west and the quest triggers on its own.

What do I do with the Mysterious Ring in the Lost Blood quest?

You find it on the Murohn’s corpse inside the cave. At the end of the quest, the Silberstein General Trader asks if you still have it. You can return it for coin or keep it by saying you no longer have it. There is no meaningful gameplay impact from either choice.

The Silberstein General Trader shop is closed – what do I do?

You need to wait roughly one full in-game day after your first conversation before his shop reopens. Use that time to do other quests or explore. Return once a day has passed and the quest will continue.

What is the Phial of Ambrus’s Blood used for?

It is a consumable you loot from the Murohn boss during the Lost Blood quest. Drinking it unlocks the Scarlet Shield passive ability in the Vampirism skill tree, which gives Coen a chance to restore health after blocking. It also raises your Corruption level significantly, so factor that into your build before using it.
