TL;DR
- The only current illness in Paralives Early Access is the Digestive System Virus.
- The fastest cure is visiting a Health Center — there is a Pharmacy and a Hospital on the town map.
- A Para with the Good at Taking Care of Others Social Perk can cook Chicken Noodle Soup to reduce the illness duration.
- You can also use the cheat command CLEARSTATUSEFFECTS to remove the virus instantly — but it also clears all positive emotions.
- Sickness is contagious — if a sick Para comes into contact with healthy Paras, the virus will spread.
- The virus lasts 12 hours if left untreated and messes with Hunger, Sleep, and Bathroom needs.
Cure Sickness in Paralives is something every player will need to do at some point. Your Parafolk can pick up the Digestive System Virus from work or school without warning, and if you leave it untreated it will spread to every other Para in your household. The good news is that there are three clear ways to deal with it — one is instant, one is a home remedy, and one uses the cheat console. This guide covers all three methods step by step so you can get your Paras back on their feet as fast as possible.

How Sickness Works in Paralives
In the current Early Access build of Paralives, the main illness your Paras can catch is called the Digestive System Virus. It is a status effect that gets applied randomly when a Para comes home from work or school. It can also be triggered by eating wild mushrooms found around the game world.
Once a Para catches the virus, the status effect lasts for 12 in-game hours if left untreated. That is a long time, and during those 12 hours your Para’s needs will be significantly disrupted.
What the Digestive System Virus Does to Your Para
- Hunger need is mostly ignored. Your Para feels too unwell to eat, so the hunger bar will not respond normally even if you try to feed them.
- Sleep need drains faster. Sick Paras cannot get proper rest, so their energy depletes more quickly than usual.
- Bathroom need decreases faster. The illness causes the bathroom bar to drop at a quicker rate, requiring more frequent trips.
- Work and daily task performance drops. A sick Para will underperform at jobs and general daily activities.
- All other needs are capped at a lower level. Even if you try to fill needs, they will not reach their normal maximum until the virus clears.
On top of all that, the virus is contagious. If your sick Para comes into physical contact with healthy Paras in the household, those Paras can also catch the virus. This means one sick Para can quickly turn into a whole household outbreak if you do not act fast.
Keeping needs under control is already a core part of Paralives. For a full breakdown of every need and how they work normally, check our guide on all Parafolk needs in Paralives.

How to Tell If Your Para Is Sick in Paralives
You will know your Para is sick when the Digestive System Virus status effect appears in their status panel. The effects on their needs bars will also make it obvious quickly — hunger will stop responding normally and sleep and bathroom will be draining faster than usual.
Check your Para’s status regularly after they come home from work or school, especially if you notice their needs bars behaving strangely. Catching the virus early and treating it fast prevents it from spreading to the rest of your household.
Method 1: Visit a Health Center (Fastest Cure)
This is the quickest and most reliable way to cure sickness in Paralives. Visiting a Health Center removes the virus immediately and restores all disrupted needs back to their normal state right away.

There are two Health Center locations on the Paralives town map:
- A small Pharmacy — located opposite the pizza place. Look for the plus (+) icon on the map.
- A larger Hospital — located opposite the Community Center. Also marked with a plus (+) icon.
Step-by-Step: How to Visit the Health Center
- Make sure you are controlling the sick Para.
- Zoom out to the Town Map view.
- Look for the plus (+) icon on the map to find either Health Center location.
- Zoom in on the building or click on it.
- Select Seek Care.
- Wait for the treatment to complete.
- You will receive a notification confirming your Para has been cured.
Once the treatment is done, the virus status effect is removed and all of your Para’s needs snap back to normal. This is by far the most effective option. It costs no extra resources and the result is instant.

Method 2: Cook Chicken Noodle Soup (Home Remedy)

If you do not want to leave the house or cannot get to a Health Center right away, there is a home remedy option. However, this method comes with an important catch — it only works if you have a specific Para in your household.
You need a Para with the Good at Taking Care of Others Social Perk. Only Paras with this perk have the ability to cook Chicken Noodle Soup for sick household members.
Step-by-Step: How to Cook Chicken Noodle Soup
- Switch control to the Para who has the Good at Taking Care of Others Social Perk.
- Click on the fridge.
- You will see the option to Make Chicken Noodle Soup — this only appears if your Para has the required perk.
- Select it and wait for the cooking animation to complete.
- Have the sick Para eat the soup.
It is important to know that Chicken Noodle Soup does not cure the virus immediately the way visiting a Health Center does. Instead, it reduces the remaining hours on the virus status effect, cutting down how long your Para stays sick. It speeds up recovery rather than ending it outright.
Also note that each batch only makes one portion. If multiple Paras in your household are sick, you need to cook the soup multiple times — once for each sick Para.
If your Para does not have the Good at Taking Care of Others perk, this option will not appear when clicking the fridge. The perk is a Social personality trait that needs to be assigned during character creation or earned through gameplay.

Method 3: Use the Cheat Console (Instant Removal)
If you want to remove the virus instantly without leaving the house or relying on a specific perk, the cheat console is your fastest option.
Step-by-Step: How to Clear Sickness With Cheats
- Click on the sick Para to select them.
- Press CTRL + SHIFT + C or CTRL + F1 to open the cheat console.
- Type CLEARSTATUSEFFECTS and press Enter.
- The virus status effect will be removed immediately.
This command works instantly and requires no travel or special perk. However, there is an important trade-off to know before you use it.
CLEARSTATUSEFFECTS removes all status effects — not just the virus. This means any positive emotions and mood buffs your Para currently has — like Happy, Excited, or Inspired — will also be wiped at the same time. If your Para had a great morning and built up positive emotions before getting sick, using this cheat will clear those gains along with the illness.
If that trade-off is acceptable, it is the cleanest and fastest solution. For a full list of all cheat commands organized by category, see our complete Paralives Cheats List.
How to Stop Sickness From Spreading in Paralives
Because the Digestive System Virus is contagious, your priority after one Para gets sick should be to prevent it spreading to others. Here is what to keep in mind:
- Act fast. The moment you notice a Para has the virus, treat them or get them to a Health Center. The longer they stay sick and interact with household members, the higher the chance of spreading it.
- Minimize contact. If you cannot cure the sick Para right away, try to limit how much time they spend near healthy Paras. Avoid having them share spaces, eat together, or engage in social activities while sick.
- Treat the virus, do not wait it out. Letting it run its natural 12-hour course is possible, but it puts every healthy Para in your household at risk the whole time. Going to the Health Center or using the cheat command is always the better option if you want to protect your household.
What Happens If You Do Not Treat Sickness in Paralives
If you leave the virus untreated, it will run for the full 12 in-game hours. During that time your Para will struggle with disrupted needs — they cannot eat properly, cannot sleep fully, and their bathroom need drains faster. Their work performance and daily task efficiency will also be lower than normal.
The bigger danger is the spread. Any healthy Para who comes into contact with the sick one during those 12 hours can catch the virus themselves. In a full household, one untreated sick Para can lead to everyone being infected within a short period, which makes managing needs across the whole household extremely difficult.
None of these illness effects are permanent as long as you treat the virus — either with the Health Center, Chicken Noodle Soup, or CLEARSTATUSEFFECTS. But waiting too long makes the situation much harder to manage, especially if needs are already running low across the household.
Tips for Managing Sickness in Paralives
- Always have the Health Center location bookmarked mentally. Knowing where the Pharmacy and Hospital are before someone gets sick saves you time searching the map in a moment of urgency.
- Consider the Good at Taking Care of Others perk for family-focused households. If you regularly play with large households or families, having at least one Para with this perk means you always have a home remedy option available.
- Keep needs topped up before sending Paras to work or school. A Para who starts the day with full needs will handle the effects of illness better if they do pick something up, buying you more time before things become critical.
- Use CLEARSTATUSEFFECTS only when positive emotions are already low. Since the cheat clears all status effects, the best time to use it is when your Para does not have built-up positive emotions you want to keep.
- Watch for wild mushrooms. In addition to work and school, eating wild mushrooms found around the game world can also trigger the illness. Avoid foraging unknown mushrooms unless you are prepared to deal with the consequences.

Ending Note
Curing sickness in Paralives is straightforward once you know what to do. The Health Center is always your best first option — it is fast, free, and restores everything immediately. Chicken Noodle Soup is a solid backup if you have the right perk in your household. And the cheat console is there for anyone who wants an instant fix without stepping outside.
The most important habit to build is acting quickly. The Digestive System Virus is contagious, and every hour you leave it untreated is another hour it can spread. Get your sick Para to a Health Center as soon as you notice the status effect and your household will be back to normal in no time.
Since Paralives is still in Early Access, more illness types and health mechanics will likely be added as the game continues to develop. The current system is simple but effective, and managing it well is just another part of keeping your Parafolk living their best lives.
