TL;DR
- Mortal Shell 2 has two fast travel methods — the Marrow Keep Launchpad (available right after the prologue) and Mether’s Breath (unlocked by siphoning around 8 Ova at the Gloom Siphon).
- The launchpad fires you to any activated Beacon, but forces you to return to Marrow Keep first every time.
- Mether’s Breath lets you travel between Beacons from anywhere on the map — no return trip to Marrow Keep needed.
- Earn Ova by cleansing Beacons — standard Beacons give 1 Ova, Corrupted Gate Beacons give 3, and post-boss Beacons give 26.
- Mether’s Breath also clears corruption blockages throughout the world, opening sealed paths.
- You can also return to Marrow Keep from anywhere using Mether’s Breath from your inventory — but it costs all your unspent Gloom.
How to Fast Travel in Mortal Shell 2
Mortal Shell 2 has a large open world split across two regions — Fainweald and the Ruins of Mammon. Running everywhere on foot gets old fast. The good news is that Mortal Shell 2 has two fast travel methods, and the first one is available almost immediately after the prologue. This guide covers both, how to unlock them, and how to use them efficiently so you spend less time backtracking and more time exploring.
If you are just getting started, our Mortal Shell 2 beginner’s guide covers the basics. And since Beacons are central to both fast travel methods, it helps to understand how leveling at them works — check our guide on how to level up and use Gloom in Mortal Shell 2 to get the most out of every Beacon stop.

The Two Fast Travel Methods in Mortal Shell 2
Most games have one fast travel system. Mortal Shell 2 has two, and they work differently. Understanding both makes early exploration much smoother.
- Method 1 – Marrow Keep Launchpad: Available immediately after the prologue. Requires you to return to Marrow Keep every time before traveling anywhere. Fires your character as a flaming meteor to the selected Beacon.
- Method 2 – Mether’s Breath: Unlocked by siphoning Ova at the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep. Once unlocked, lets you travel between any two activated Beacons directly — no return trip to the hub required.
Most players use the launchpad briefly in the early game and then switch to Mether’s Breath once they unlock it. Mether’s Breath is the one you actually want for the rest of the playthrough.
Method 1 – How to Use the Marrow Keep Launchpad
The Marrow Keep Launchpad is the first fast travel option you have access to. Here is how to use it:
- After the prologue, arrive at Marrow Keep and speak to the NPCs inside
- Head past the Gloom Siphon chamber and find the elevator
- Take the elevator all the way to the roof of Marrow Keep
- Clear any corruption on both sides of the peak if needed
- Find the black circular platform at the top and activate it
- A bird’s-eye view of the world opens — all your activated Beacons appear as selectable pins on the map
- Choose your destination and confirm — a cutscene plays showing your character flying through the air before crashing into the ground at your chosen Beacon
The launchpad works well early on, but it has one big limitation: every journey requires you to physically come back to Marrow Keep first. If you are deep in Fainweald and want to travel to a Beacon in Mammon, you have to walk or Beacon-travel back to the hub, take the elevator up, and then launch. This gets repetitive fast, which is exactly why unlocking Mether’s Breath should be a priority.
One thing to note: you can only fast travel to Beacons you have already activated. You do not need to cleanse a Beacon to fast travel to it — just interacting and resting there once is enough to add it to the list.
Method 2 – Mether’s Breath: Full Fast Travel
Mether’s Breath is the proper fast travel system. Once unlocked, it adds a “Mether’s Breath” option to the menu at every Beacon in the game. Select it and you can travel to any activated Beacon on the map without going back to Marrow Keep at all.
Beyond fast travel, Mether’s Breath also has a second important use: it cleanses corruption blockages — the black vine-like growths that block paths and sealed loot throughout the world. You cannot open those paths without it, so unlocking Mether’s Breath is a major progression step, not just a quality-of-life upgrade. For more on that, see our guide on how to cleanse corruption in Mortal Shell 2.
How to Unlock Mether’s Breath
Mether’s Breath unlocks by siphoning enough Ova at the Gloom Siphon inside Marrow Keep. Based on multiple sources, the threshold is around 8 Ova total, though some players unlock it slightly earlier depending on the order they cleanse Beacons. The prologue already gives you 3 Ova automatically, meaning you typically need to cleanse around 4 to 5 more Beacons in the early world to hit the requirement.
Step by step:
- Cleanse Beacons out in the world to collect Ova
- Return to Marrow Keep and head to the multi-tiered room with the globe-like contraption — this is the Ova Nursery / Gloom Siphon
- Interact with the Gloom Siphon to deposit your Ova
- Once the total hits the unlock threshold, Mether’s Breath is added to your inventory automatically
- From that point on, every Beacon in the game has the Mether’s Breath travel option in its menu
How to Get Ova – Beacon Cleansing Explained
Ova is earned by cleansing Beacons. When you encounter a corrupted Beacon in the world, interacting with it gives you the option to cleanse it. This sends you into a short dungeon inside the Beacon — fight through the enemies, sometimes defeat a miniboss, and collect the Ovum waiting at the end.
Not all Beacons give the same amount:
- Standard Beacons — give 1 Ova each upon cleansing
- Beacons near Corrupted Gates — give 3 Ova each
- Post-boss Beacons (after major Corrupted Gate bosses) — give 26 Ova each. Clearing even one major Corrupted Gate gives you more than enough Ova to unlock Mether’s Breath in a single run.
There are 49 total Beacons in the world. Of those, 46 can be cleansed — Marrow Keep, Widow’s Overlook, and Outskirts of Mammon are already cleansed when you find them. Cleansing all 46 is needed for the So Fresh, So Clean achievement and the Bring My Ova Back to Me achievement.
For the purpose of unlocking Mether’s Breath quickly, the best approach is to cleanse the early Beacons in the northern part of Fainweald. They are reachable quickly after the prologue and give you enough Ova to hit the unlock threshold without needing to push into harder areas. Alternatively, if you can reach a Corrupted Gate and clear its boss, the 26 Ova reward alone unlocks Mether’s Breath immediately.
How to Use Mether’s Breath to Fast Travel
Once Mether’s Breath is unlocked, fast travel is simple:
- Walk up to any activated Beacon and interact with it
- In the Beacon menu, select Mether’s Breath
- A map opens showing all your activated Beacons
- Select your destination and confirm
- You teleport there instantly — no cutscene, no animation delay
You can also return to Marrow Keep instantly for free from any Beacon by choosing that option in the Beacon menu. This is the quickest way to get back to the hub for leveling, shopping, or upgrades.
There is also a way to use Mether’s Breath from anywhere on the map — not just at a Beacon. Open your inventory, find the Mether’s Breath item, and use it. On PC press Space, on Xbox press A, on PS5 press X. However, using it this way costs you all unspent Gloom you are currently holding. Only do this when you genuinely need to get back fast and the Gloom loss is acceptable. If you have a lot of Gloom saved up, walk to the nearest Beacon instead and use the free option there.
Beacons and Bone Gates — Other Ways to Move Around
Beyond the two main fast travel methods, Mortal Shell 2 also has Bone Gates — pairs of large stone archways that teleport you between two fixed points in the world. They work like shortcuts. Walk through one side and you appear at the other end, which is often across a large gap or into an isolated area like Desolate Peak.
Bone Gates are not connected to Mether’s Breath or the Beacon network — they are one-way or two-way physical shortcuts built into the world itself. They show up frequently in Fainweald and are especially useful for reaching areas you cannot walk to otherwise.
Marrow Keep also stays permanently available as a fast travel destination. No matter where you are in the game, you can return to the hub through the Beacon menu at any time.
Tips for Using Fast Travel Efficiently
- Touch every Beacon you find. You do not need to cleanse a Beacon to fast travel to it — just resting there once adds it to the network. Activating Beacons early gives you more destinations later.
- Prioritize cleansing Beacons near Corrupted Gates. They give 3 Ova each rather than 1, which speeds up unlocking Mether’s Breath significantly.
- Do not use Mether’s Breath from inventory if you are holding valuable Gloom. The free Beacon menu option always gets you to Marrow Keep without any cost. The inventory use is only worth it in emergencies.
- Combine fast travel arrivals with leveling. When you land at a Beacon, you can level up your Harbinger, swap gear, and manage your build all in the same stop. This saves extra trips back to the hub.
- Resting at a Beacon respawns nearby enemies. This is worth planning around — if you are farming Gloom in an area, resting to reset enemies and then using Mether’s Breath to fast travel away means you waste the respawn. Do your farm run first, then travel when you are done.
- Get a map early. Fast travel is only useful if you know where you are going. Our guide on how to get a map in Mortal Shell 2 shows you how to reveal the world so you can plan routes properly.
What Beacons Also Do (Beyond Fast Travel)
It is worth understanding that Beacons are more than just teleport points. Every time you interact with a Beacon, it:
- Sets your respawn point — you revive here if you die
- Restores your Health and Resolve fully
- Refills your Health Flask charges
- Respawns all nearby regular enemies — useful for farming, but means areas you cleared will refill
- Allows leveling — spend Gloom here to upgrade your Harbinger
- Allows gear swapping — change your weapon, sidearm, and seal loadout
- Allows Shell Point allocation — spend Shell Points on your current Shell’s ability tree
Cleansed Beacons also unlock the option to enter and re-run their interior dungeon. Some dungeons hold unique rewards worth revisiting for Gloom farming or loot. For boss-specific encounters and what they drop, see our full boss list for Mortal Shell 2.
How to Fast Travel in Mortal Shell 2 – FAQ
How do I unlock fast travel in Mortal Shell 2?
The first fast travel method — the Marrow Keep Launchpad — unlocks automatically after you complete the prologue and arrive at Marrow Keep. Take the elevator to the roof and activate the black circular platform. The second and more convenient method, Mether’s Breath, unlocks after you siphon around 8 Ova total at the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep. Earn Ova by cleansing Beacons in the world, then return to the hub and deposit them at the globe-like machine.
What is Mether’s Breath in Mortal Shell 2?
Mether’s Breath is a permanent ability that unlocks full fast travel between Beacons from anywhere on the map. Once you have it, every Beacon menu has a Mether’s Breath option that lets you teleport directly to any activated Beacon without going back to Marrow Keep first. It also cleanses the black corruption blockages that seal paths and loot throughout the world. You get it by siphoning enough Ova at the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep — approximately 8 total.
How do I get Ova in Mortal Shell 2?
Ova comes from cleansing Beacons. Standard Beacons give 1 Ova each. Beacons near Corrupted Gates give 3 Ova each. The Beacon that spawns after defeating a major Corrupted Gate boss gives 26 Ova in a single reward. The prologue automatically gives you 3 Ova before you even reach the open world, so you typically need to cleanse around 4 to 5 more Beacons in early Fainweald to unlock Mether’s Breath.
Can I fast travel to any Beacon in Mortal Shell 2?
You can fast travel to any Beacon you have already activated — meaning you physically walked up to it and interacted with it at least once. You do not need to cleanse the Beacon to add it to the travel network. However, you cannot fast travel to a Beacon you have never visited. This is why touching every Beacon you encounter during exploration is important — each one expands your travel options for the rest of the run.
