- You need a Mask equipped to steal the ring from the chest
- The ring gives Attack Speed and +2% Stamina Regen — great for aggressive combat
The Mark of Darkness Ring is one of the best accessories you can grab in Crimson Desert. It gives you an attack speed boost and a +2% Stamina Regen passive — and that stamina regen is more useful than it sounds, especially if your build involves a lot of dodging, chaining attacks, or burning through stamina with elemental moves. The good news is you don’t have to wait for the story to hand it to you. You can grab it through exploration at any point.
Here’s everything you need to know.
What Is the Mark of Darkness Ring?
The Mark of Darkness Ring is a lore accessory tied to the followers of Antumbra. Lore-wise it marks the rank of a deacon within that group. Gameplay-wise, it gives you:
- +1 Attack
- Attack Speed Level 4 (at max upgrade)
- +2% Stamina Regen (passive)
The attack and attack speed bonuses make it strong for fast, aggressive playstyles. The stamina regen is what makes it genuinely useful for longer fights. When you’re constantly dodging, parrying, and chaining skills, that 2% keeps you from hitting empty at the worst moment. It pairs especially well with stamina-hungry builds — check our advanced combat guide to get the most out of it.
You can refine this ring at a Blacksmith to push its stats higher. The attack speed scales well with refinement, making it worth investing in if you plan to use it long-term.
Where to Find the Mark of Darkness Ring

The ring is inside a strongbox on the second floor of Windmere Manor, which sits north of the City of Demeniss, along the river that flows northward. Look north of the “M” in “Demeniss” on your world map and you’ll spot it.
You will actually visit this location during the Bloodied Invitation main quest in Chapter 8. But you don’t need to be anywhere near Chapter 8 to get the ring. The manor is accessible the moment you can reach Demeniss, and sneaking in is straightforward.
What You Need Before Going In
A Mask. This is mandatory. Without a Mask equipped, you cannot steal the ring from the chest even after solving the puzzle. Pick one up from the Back Alley Shop in Hernand City for a few bronze coins, or loot one from bandits. Full details in our how to steal items guide.
That’s really it. No keys required for this one. Just a Mask and some basic climbing ability.

How to Enter Windmere Manor
The manor is guarded, but you have two clean entry options. Both let you skip the guards entirely.
Entry Method 1 — Front Cliff Window (Recommended)
Stand on the cliff north of the manor and look at the building. You’ll see a window on the left side of the second floor. Climb the building and open that window to get inside. Once in, leave the room and follow the corridor to the left. Go through the first door on the left. The strongbox is in the left corner of that room.
Entry Method 2 — Rooftop via Force Palm
Go to the back of the manor. Use Force Palm to launch yourself up and land on the rooftop. Cross the rooftop and drop down onto the balcony. Go through the balcony door. You’re now directly in the room with the strongbox. This is the faster route if you know your way around.
If you’d rather fight the guards instead of sneaking, you can do that too. The guards are hostile and you won’t get a bounty for killing them, so it’s a valid option if you’re well geared. Check our best unique weapons and armor guide if you want to make fights like this easier.

How to Solve the Windmere Manor Strongbox Puzzle
Once you reach the strongbox and interact with it, you get a 3×3 grid rotation puzzle. The image is a scrambled painting of a whale. Your job is to rotate individual tiles until the whale picture looks correct.
Here’s how to interact with the puzzle:
- Use the directional buttons to select which tile you want to rotate
- Press E on keyboard or X on controller to select a tile
- Press Left or Right to rotate it clockwise or counterclockwise
- You can take as many turns as you need — there’s no time limit and no move limit
The puzzle arrangement can vary slightly between players, so the exact solution isn’t identical for everyone. But it’s a rotation puzzle, not a sliding tile, which means you just spin each piece until it lines up with the target image. It is one of the easier strongbox puzzles in the game.
As a general reference, most players need to rotate some combination of pieces 2, 4, 5, 6, and 9. But look at the target whale image on the strongbox itself and adjust each tile visually — it’s straightforward enough to eyeball.
If you step away mid-puzzle, it resets with no penalty. So take your time.
How to Claim the Ring
Once the puzzle is complete, the strongbox opens and reveals a chest inside. Make sure your Mask is equipped before you open it. The ring counts as stolen goods. Open the chest and aim at the ring with L1/LB, then take it.
If guards are nearby and spot you, just run. You keep the ring even if you get caught. You might lose your Mask and some Silver, but the ring stays in your inventory. Learn how to remove bounties here if you need to clear your record after.
Is the Mark of Darkness Ring Worth Using?
Yes, especially early to mid-game. At first the +1 attack stat looks underwhelming. But the Attack Speed Level 4 trait is genuinely strong, and the +2% Stamina Regen stacks quietly in the background. For players who are constantly dodging through enemy attacks or chaining combos, that regen means fewer dead stops in your flow.
It’s particularly good before you unlock higher-tier stamina gear or invest heavily in stamina upgrades through Abyss Artifacts. Use it as your go-to ring during the middle chapters and upgrade it whenever you can.
If you’re building around fast attacks and critical hits, this pairs well alongside the Necklace of Lightning and a solid offensive armor set.
