TL;DR
- The Necklace of Lightning is a Legendary accessory found inside the Eastern Court in Demeniss
- It boosts Attack, Critical Rate, and Spirit — Critical Rate is effectively doubled on accessories, making this extremely powerful
- Fully upgraded stats: Attack +5 and Critical Rate Level 4
- You need a Mask equipped to loot the strongbox — the item counts as stolen goods
- Enter the Eastern Court, take the first left, go through the cloth-covered hidden room, climb down the ladder
- Dial lockbox solution: turn right until click → turn left until click → repeat (right, left, right, left)
- The area has enemies and a boss — come prepared with healing items
Critical Rate is one of the strongest stats in Crimson Desert. Every point of Critical Rate gives you a higher chance to deal double damage on each attack. What most players do not know is that accessory stats are secretly doubled by the game — a necklace with Critical Rate Level 2 actually gives you Level 4. That hidden multiplier makes a Critical Rate necklace the single most impactful piece of gear you can slot in.
The Necklace of Lightning is the most accessible Critical Rate necklace in the game. It sits in a hidden basement room inside the Eastern Court in Demeniss, locked behind a dial combination puzzle. This guide covers the exact location, how to get inside, the lockbox solution, and what the necklace is worth using long-term.
Necklace of Lightning Stats
| Stat | Base | Fully Upgraded |
|---|---|---|
| Attack | — | +5 |
| Critical Rate | Level 1 (effective Level 2) | Level 4 |
| Spirit Gain | Passive boost | Passive boost |
| Special Effect | Detect enemy weaknesses faster with Blinding Flash | — |
The Critical Rate stat listed on the item shows Level 1, but due to the hidden accessory doubling mechanic, it functions as Level 2 immediately. Fully upgraded it reaches Critical Rate Level 4 — which on a dual-wield build can stack up to 16 total Critical Rate points across all weapons. For bows and two-handed weapons, a maxed necklace alone provides 8 points.
The Blinding Flash detection bonus is a minor bonus. The real value is the crit stacking.
Before You Go: What You Need
A Mask — the item inside the strongbox counts as stolen goods. Without a Mask equipped, you cannot pick it up. The loot prompt will be greyed out. For how to get one, see our guide on how to pickpocket in Crimson Desert, which covers all three ways to get a Mask early.
Healing items — the Eastern Court has guards and a boss inside. Bring Hearty Meals or Grilled Meat. You do not have to fight if you take the sneak route (covered below), but being prepared is safer.
Your best weapon — if you plan to clear the area rather than sneak, go in with your current strongest setup. The boss is not a required fight but it guards the building.

Where to Find the Eastern Court
The Eastern Court is located in the Demeniss region, east of the city of Demeniss itself.
On the map, look for the word “Demeniss” — the Eastern Court sits east of the last letter “S” in that name. It is a large fortified building with a courtyard.
Fast travel tip: If you have the Demeniss Abyss Nexus or any nearby fast travel point already unlocked, use that to get close and ride east. For help unlocking fast travel in the region, see our guide on how to fast travel in Crimson Desert.

How to Enter the Eastern Court
You have two options:
Option 1 — Fight through the front Approach the main entrance of the Eastern Court and clear the enemies inside. There is a boss guarding the area. Come with healing and your best loadout. Once the area is cleared, proceed inside freely.
Option 2 — Sneak in through the back window (recommended) If you want to skip the fighting entirely, go around to the back side of the building and climb up to the top window. From there you can drop inside without triggering any fights. This is the faster route if you just want the necklace.
How to Find the Hidden Room
Once inside the Eastern Court through either method:

- From the main entrance, take the first left
- At the staircase, look for a cloth or curtain hanging on the wall
- Walk underneath the cloth to reveal a hidden doorway behind it
- Inside you will find a ladder going down
- Climb down into the basement — this small underground room contains the lockbox
Dial Lockbox Puzzle Solution
The lockbox uses a combination dial — the same mechanic as a real combination lock. There is no timer. Take your time.
Controls:
- Grab the dial: X on PlayStation / A on Xbox / E on PC
- Turn right: Right on D-Pad
- Turn left: Left on D-Pad

Turn up your volume. The dial makes an audible clicking sound when it hits the correct position. That click is your cue to stop and switch directions.
Solution:
- Turn the dial right — keep turning until you hear a clicking sound, then stop
- Turn the dial left — keep turning until you hear a clicking sound, then stop
- Turn the dial right again — keep turning until you hear a clicking sound, then stop
- Turn the dial left one final time — keep turning until you hear a clicking sound, then stop
That is four total turns: right, left, right, left. After the fourth click, the safe door will unlock. Interact with it to open the lockbox and collect the Necklace of Lightning.
If nothing happens: Make sure you have your Mask equipped before interacting with the safe. The game will not let you loot the item without it. Also double-check that you are stopping at the actual click and not over-rotating past it.

Is the Necklace of Lightning Worth Using Long-Term?
For mid-game and into the late game, yes — this is one of the best accessible accessories in the entire game. Critical Rate is consistently the strongest offensive stat in Crimson Desert, and getting a Level 4 crit necklace without grinding faction quests or hunting legendary animals makes this strongbox one of the highest-value detours in Demeniss.
The hidden accessory doubling mechanic means that Critical Rate on a necklace goes further than the same level stat on a weapon or armor piece. At max upgrade, the necklace alone contributes a massive portion of any crit-focused build.
For end-game crit builds, the White Lion Necklace eventually surpasses it in raw ceiling, but the Necklace of Lightning is significantly easier to obtain and covers you through most of the story. For the legendary White Lion location, see our guide on how to find Legendary Creatures in Crimson Desert.
How to Upgrade the Necklace of Lightning
Upgrading the Necklace of Lightning works the same as any other piece of equipment in Crimson Desert. Use Refinement Tokens from Hernand (available from Hernand’s refinement NPCs) and invest materials to push it to higher levels.
For the full process, see our guide on how to reinforce equipment in Crimson Desert and how to get and use Hernand Refinement Tokens.
Prioritise upgrading the necklace before your armor in crit builds — it gives the largest per-upgrade Critical Rate gain relative to its upgrade cost.
Other Strongbox Accessories Worth Getting
While you are in the Demeniss region grabbing the Necklace of Lightning, several other strongboxes nearby are worth hitting:
- Sungrove Manor — north of Demeniss, second floor, rotation puzzle — rewards another accessory
- Southern Court — requires liberating the area first, rewards the Witch’s Earring (Movement Speed + Defense)
- Western Court — basement under the curtain by the stairs, rewards Karanda’s Necklace
- Azerian Manor — second floor behind a false wall, rewards the Ancient Earring
For every strongbox location and solution across the whole game, see our Crimson Desert all Strongbox puzzle solutions and locations guide.
