HUOHUO
Build Guide – Best Relics, Light Cone & Teams
🦊 SS TIER WIND HEALER 🦊The Fearful Fox-Spirit Judge · Xianzhou’s Premier Healer & Energy Battery
Huohuo is a 5-star Wind Abundance character from the Xianzhou Luofu — a timid trainee Ten-Lords Commission judge possessed by a powerful heliobus spirit that resides in her tail. Released in Version 1.5 and featured in multiple reruns (most recently in HSR 4.0, February 2026), Huohuo has held a consistent SS Tier position across every endgame mode since her debut. She is universally regarded as the most offensively-oriented healer in Honkai: Star Rail — combining robust AoE healing with two team-wide offensive buffs: +40% ATK for 2 turns and 20% Max Energy restoration for all allies simultaneously.
What separates Huohuo from every other healer is her role as an energy battery. No other sustain character in HSR 4.0 restores Energy to the entire team — a role that was previously exclusive to Harmony supports like Tingyun. In teams built around Ultimate-cycling DPS characters (Aglaea, Argenti, Jing Yuan, Jingliu, Black Swan, Robin), Huohuo’s energy restoration is as valuable as the healing itself. Her Divine Provision talent provides continuous passive healing across up to 6 triggers per Skill use, her Skill provides powerful burst AoE healing with a debuff cleanse, and at E1 she gains a permanent +12% SPD for all allies — making her a near-Harmony unit embedded in the Abundance path. She remains the #1 choice for DoT, Ultimate-centric, and hypercarry team compositions in Version 4.0.
Core Mechanics Explained
Energy Threshold & Rotation Guide
Huohuo’s value comes primarily from her Ultimate — the more often she uses it, the more Energy and ATK buffs her team receives. Everything about her build should prioritise reaching the ERR thresholds below.
- T1 Use Skill → activates Divine Provision
- T2 Basic ATK → passive healing continues
- T3 Basic ATK → passive healing continues
- T4 Use Ultimate → team gets +20% Energy + 40% ATK
- T1 Skill → Divine Provision + sig LC ATK stack begins
- T2 Basic ATK (SP generated)
- T3 Skill → resets Divine Provision, SP neutral
- T4 Ultimate → energy + ATK buff + sig heal
- T1 Skill → Divine Provision activated
- T2 Basic ATK
- T3 Basic ATK
- T4 Ultimate (if energy threshold met, otherwise Skill)
⚡ Critical ERR Insight: The 131.4% Threshold
Huohuo has a base Energy cost of 100 and a base ERR of 0%. Her A4 Trace generates approximately 4–6 Energy per Skill cycle from Talent triggers. The 131.4% ERR threshold is calculated to ensure she reliably reaches 100 Energy in exactly 4 actions (1 Skill + 2 Basics + Ultimate) without needing extra Skill casts. Hitting this threshold consistently is more important than any substat investment — a Huohuo who uses Ultimate every 4 turns provides dramatically more team value than one who uses it every 5–6 turns. Prioritise an ERR rope first. If using her signature LC (+12% ERR), you still need ~119% base ERR from relics/planar, achieved by using a planar set with ERR bonus (Lushaka, Penacony) or ERR substats. Map your build to one of the three rotation cards above and work toward the corresponding threshold.
Best Light Cones
Night of Fright
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Signature — Best in Slot
Why it’s #1: Huohuo’s dedicated 5-star signature is a comprehensive enhancement of every dimension of her kit. At S1 it provides: (1) +12% Energy Regeneration Rate — the single most important stat for Huohuo, enabling the SP-positive 4-action rotation without an ERR rope, freeing the Link Rope slot for HP%; (2) whenever any ally uses their Ultimate, Huohuo immediately heals the ally with the lowest HP% for 10% of that ally’s Max HP — a reactive safety net that fires automatically on every team Ultimate use; (3) whenever Huohuo provides healing, increases the healed ally’s ATK by 2.4%, stacking up to 5 times (= +12% ATK total, lasting 2 turns) — a near-permanent secondary ATK buff that stacks alongside the Ultimate’s +40%.
The combination of all three effects makes Night of Fright far more than a stat upgrade — it fundamentally changes Huohuo’s rotation and the passive healing safety net. The reactive on-Ultimate heal triggers in every Ultimate-heavy team, meaning all of Huohuo’s best team comps benefit from it constantly. Community consensus from KQM and Prydwen is that this LC is more impactful than E1 at the account-level — since it also works on other Abundance characters — though E1 provides more raw personal improvement for Huohuo herself. Strongly recommended as a first investment.
Post-Op Conversation
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4-Star — Best Non-Signature
Best F2P Option — Far Above Other Alternatives: Post-Op Conversation is a 4-star Abundance LC that provides: (1) +8% Energy Regeneration Rate at S1 (scaling to +16% at S5) — directly helping Huohuo reach the 131.4% threshold; (2) after using Ultimate, restores HP equal to 9% of Max HP for the ally with the lowest HP% at S1 (similar to the signature’s reactive heal, but once vs continuously). At S3 (+12% ERR), this LC provides the same ERR as the signature without the stacking ATK bonus or continuous on-Ultimate heal.
This is obtainable from the standard gacha pool and is widely available. At S3–S5 it becomes genuinely competitive with the signature for players focused purely on rotation stability. Prioritise this if you do not have or are saving for Night of Fright. Superimposing to S3 is a strong intermediate goal.
Quid Pro Quo
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4-Star — Energy-Focused AltAlternative Energy-Focused Option: Provides +8 Energy for an ally with the lowest energy at the start of Huohuo’s turn. This restores energy to team members passively each turn — a different kind of energy support compared to her Ultimate’s percentage-based restoration. Particularly useful in teams where consistent per-turn energy matters more than burst restoration (non-Ultimate-cycle teams). Weaker than Post-Op Conversation for Huohuo’s personal rotation, but can be a useful team utility option in specific comps. Available from the standard gacha pool.
Perfect Timing
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4-Star — Healing Focus OptionHealing-Amplification Alternative: Increases Outgoing Healing by up to +24% based on Effect RES — since Huohuo naturally builds Effect RES via traces (up to 18%) and can stack more through Broken Keel or substats, this conditionally provides a meaningful healing bonus. Best used in content where raw sustain is the priority and energy rotation is already comfortable from other sources. Generally ranks below Post-Op Conversation for overall value but may outperform it in healing-critical content at high Effect RES investment.
Hey, Over Here!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4-Star — Easiest ERR OptionAccessible ERR Option: Provides a flat +12% Energy Regeneration Rate — the same ERR bonus as Night of Fright — along with minor Outgoing Healing. It lacks all of Night of Fright’s additional effects (no reactive heal, no stacking ATK buff) but is the easiest way for F2P players to hit the 131.4% ERR threshold without pulling specific gacha LCs. Available from the Herta Store with Dream Shards. If you already have Post-Op Conversation S3+ or Night of Fright, skip this. If you’re struggling to hit ERR breakpoints with Post-Op S1, consider this as a bridge option.
Best Relics & Planar Ornaments
Messenger Traversing Hackerspace ✦ Best in Slot (SPD + Team)
The consensus best-in-slot relic set for Huohuo across all content types and team compositions. The +6% SPD from 2-piece helps Huohuo act more frequently — more turns means more Skill uses, more Divine Provision passive healing triggers, and faster Ultimate cycling. The 4-piece team-wide +12% SPD buff on Ultimate is where this set truly shines: every time Huohuo uses her Ultimate (which simultaneously gives 20% Energy + 40% ATK to all allies), she also grants the entire team a SPD burst for 1 turn. In a rotation where Huohuo Ultimates every 4 turns, this translates to near-25% uptime team SPD buff that stacks with all other speed buffs in the game. At E1 (which grants permanent +12% SPD during Divine Provision), using this set means the team can reach very high SPD thresholds that make a meaningful difference in cycle count. This set is recommended regardless of team composition.
Passerby of Wandering Cloud (2pc) + Longevous Disciple (2pc) Strong Alternative
A universally strong healing-focused 2-piece combination. The +10% Outgoing Healing directly amplifies every heal Huohuo provides — Skill burst, Divine Provision passive ticks, and any healing from Light Cone effects. The +12% Max HP simultaneously increases every heal (since all her healing scales with Max HP) and improves her personal survivability. This combination loses the team SPD utility of Messenger 4-piece but can outperform it in pure healing output, particularly in high-difficulty content where one-shots are a real threat and survivability matters more than the SPD buff. Use this if you have excellent sub-stat pieces from both sets but cannot complete a strong Messenger 4-piece. Also consider this combination if your team already has abundant SPD from other sources (Ruan Mei, Robin E2) and additional SPD buff is redundant.
Guard of Wuthering Snow (2pc) Mix Defensive Alternative
A niche defensive option that provides damage mitigation and emergency self-healing when Huohuo drops below 50% HP. The 5 Energy regeneration on the HP trigger is a minor energy bonus. In most content, this 2-piece underperforms compared to Longevous Disciple’s +12% HP because the trigger condition is reactive rather than passive. However, it can have niche value in Apocalyptic Shadow content where Huohuo herself may take heavy direct damage. Use only in specific survival scenarios — Messenger 4-piece remains the universal recommendation.
Fleet of the Ageless ✦ Best Planar Ornament
Huohuo’s best-in-slot planar ornament for most team compositions. The +12% Max HP amplifies her healing output directly (all healing scales with her Max HP) and provides personal survivability. The +8% ATK for all allies at 120 SPD (trivially achieved with virtually any build) is a permanent passive team buff that stacks additively with her Ultimate’s +40% ATK — meaning her team effectively receives +48% ATK from Huohuo alone (40% from Ultimate + 8% from planar). This passive team ATK buff requires no action cost or condition beyond having 120 SPD, making it consistently reliable across all scenarios. An excellent universal choice that benefits both her healing and her team’s offensive output simultaneously.
Broken Keel Alt — CRIT DMG Team Option
A strong alternative for teams with CRIT DMG-scaling DPS characters. Huohuo naturally builds Effect RES through traces (approximately 18% from bonus abilities) — reaching 30% requires only a small additional investment in Effect RES substats or planar sub-stats. The team-wide +10% CRIT DMG is a passive multiplicative damage boost that scales with every CRIT DMG investment the DPS has made. For teams built around CRIT-focused characters (Sunday + Phainon, Jingliu, Jing Yuan), Broken Keel’s +10% CRIT DMG can provide slightly more damage than Fleet’s +8% ATK depending on the team’s existing ATK and CRIT DMG ratios. Use Fleet if your team has normal ATK ratios; consider Broken Keel specifically for CRIT-heavy hypercarry teams.
Lushaka, the Sunken Seas Alt — ERR + ATK Hybrid
A useful alternative for players who need additional ERR to hit the 131.4% threshold without sacrificing the Link Rope slot. The +5% ERR directly contributes to Ultimate cycling, and the 12% ATK-to-team bonus is a minor but free offensive boost. However, in most cases, reaching 131.4% ERR is better served by an ERR rope and using Fleet of the Ageless as the planar — since Fleet’s +8% team ATK is consistently stronger than the 12% ATK-from-wearer calculation for most teams. Lushaka is primarily a transitional option while you accumulate good ERR substats on relic pieces. Use it if the +5% ERR is the difference between hitting or missing your rotation threshold.
Stat Priorities & Build Targets
Main Stat Recommendations by Piece
🦊 Substat Priority Order — What to Farm
Priority 1 — SPD: Every SPD roll increases how often Huohuo acts, how many Divine Provision ticks occur, and how well she can maintain her rotation. SPD substats are never wasted.
Priority 2 — Effect RES: If targeting Broken Keel planar (30% Effect RES for team CRIT DMG), Effect RES substats are high value. Also provides personal survivability against debuffs and CC.
Priority 3 — HP%: Scales all healing. More HP = stronger Skill burst, stronger Talent passive ticks, stronger sig LC reactive heals. Consistent value across all builds.
Priority 4 — Flat HP: Less efficient than HP% but still useful filler. Better than DEF or ATK substats.
Avoid: CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%, Flat ATK — these provide zero value on Huohuo.
Trace & Skill Priority
- Ultimate (Lv.10 — Absolute First Priority): Huohuo’s Ultimate is the centrepiece of her entire kit — it provides the team-wide 20% Energy restore and 40% ATK buff that define her SS Tier status. Every level increases the ATK buff percentage and the heal triggered by Night of Fright. Maximum Ultimate level is non-negotiable — this trace defines Huohuo’s worth to any team and should reach Lv.10 as quickly as possible.
- Talent — Possession: Ethereal Metaflow (Lv.10 — First Priority tied): The Talent controls Divine Provision’s passive healing values — every level increases the HP% scaling and flat healing per trigger. Since Divine Provision fires up to 6 times per Skill cast across all ally turns and Ultimate uses, even small percentage increases compound significantly across a battle. Talent and Ultimate should be levelled simultaneously to Lv.10.
- Skill — Talisman: Protection (Lv.8–10): Increases the burst heal on the primary target and adjacent allies. The Skill’s burst heal is critical for emergency recovery — higher Skill levels mean faster comeback from near-death situations. Level to Lv.8 as an intermediate goal, then push to Lv.10 once Ultimate and Talent are maxed.
- Bonus Abilities — Unlock All Three (Mandatory): A2 (Fearful to Act): Divine Provision on battle start — free first-turn passive healing without a Skill. Essential for opening rotations. A4 (Stress Reaction to Horror): +1 Energy per Talent trigger — crucial for rotation sustainability, providing 4–6 Energy per Skill cycle from Talent triggers alone. A6 (The Cursed One): +35% Crowd Control resistance — defensive quality of life that reduces the frequency of Huohuo being disabled. All three Bonus Abilities must be unlocked as soon as character ascension allows.
- Stat Bonus Traces (Unlock In Order): HP +6% / HP +6% / HP +8% (three separate traces from the trace web) — each HP bonus increases all her healing. Effect RES +4% / Effect RES +6% / Effect RES +8% — builds toward the Broken Keel threshold and reduces debuff vulnerability. SPD +2 / SPD +3 — free SPD that contributes to the 134 SPD breakpoint. Always unlock stat bonuses in the order that maximises your current most-needed stat.
- Basic ATK — Stormcaller (Lv.1 — Skip Entirely): Huohuo’s Basic ATK deals minor Wind DMG based on her Max HP to a single enemy. It is used almost exclusively during the Skill→Basic→Basic→Ultimate rotation’s two Basic ATK turns — and even then, the damage output is irrelevant. There is never a scenario where Huohuo’s Basic ATK damage matters. Leave at Lv.1 permanently and redirect all trace materials to Ultimate, Talent, and Skill.
Eidolons Guide
| Eidolon | Name & Effect | Rating | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| E0 | Base Kit — Complete Huohuo kit: Skill burst heal + cleanse, Ultimate (20% Energy + 40% ATK), Divine Provision passive 6-trigger healing + rolling debuff cleanse, A2 battle-start Divine Provision, A4 Energy regen per trigger, A6 CC resistance | Baseline SS Tier | E0 Huohuo is fully SS Tier without any Eidolons. E0S1 (signature LC) is the recommended first investment target — the signature LC is more impactful at the account level than E1 according to KQM analysis. |
| E1 | Anchored to Vessel, Specters Nestled — The duration of Divine Provision from Talent is extended by +1 turn (from 2 turns to 3). When Huohuo has Divine Provision active, all allies’ SPD increases by +12%. | Highest Priority Eidolon | E1 transforms Huohuo into a near-Harmony character. The Divine Provision duration extension (+1 turn, to 3 turns total) means she can maintain near-permanent uptime in the 4-action rotation: Skill at T1 gives 3-turn Divine Provision lasting through T3, then refreshing at T4 after Ultimate. The permanent +12% SPD for all allies during Divine Provision is the headline — in Ultimate-focused teams, this near-permanent SPD buff significantly increases team action frequency. E1 makes Huohuo strictly better than her E0S1 state for dedicated Huohuo investment. Most analysts recommend E0S1 → E1S1 as the ideal investment path. |
| E2 | Sealed in Tail, Wraith Subdued — If Huohuo has Divine Provision when an ally is struck by a killing blow, that ally will not be knocked down and their HP is immediately restored to 50% of their Max HP. Reduces Divine Provision duration by 1 turn. Can trigger up to 2 times per battle. | Strong Safety Net | A powerful defensive Eidolon — effectively a limited revive that prevents ally death during Divine Provision windows. Particularly valuable in Apocalyptic Shadow against bosses with one-shot mechanics. The trigger reduces Divine Provision duration by 1 turn (a cost), but preventing an ally death is almost always worth it. The 2x per battle limit means it cannot be abused infinitely but provides meaningful safety for difficult content. Generally recommended to stop at E1S1 and only invest further if going all-in to E6. |
| E3 | Cursed by Fate, Moths to Flame — Ultimate Lv. +2 (max Lv.15), Talent Lv. +2 (max Lv.15) | Incremental | Higher Ultimate and Talent levels increase ATK buff percentage and passive healing values. A meaningful but non-dramatic improvement. Not worth targeting specifically — only acquire en route to E4+. |
| E4 | Tied in Life, Bound to Strife — When healing a target ally via Skill or Talent, the less HP the target has, the higher the healing received. Maximum healing increase from this effect: +80%. | Strong Reactive Healing | Excellent for content where allies frequently drop to low HP — the healing amplifier kicks in exactly when needed most. At maximum (80% bonus healing at near-0 HP), this is an enormous burst recovery multiplier that prevents death spirals. Combined with E2’s revive, E4 Huohuo becomes an extremely durable sustain anchor. Notable investment but not recommended unless proceeding to E6. |
| E5 | Mandated by Edict, Evils Evicted — Skill Lv. +2 (max Lv.15), Basic ATK Lv. +1 (max Lv.10) | Minor | Skill level increase improves burst heal values modestly. En route to E6. |
| E6 | Woven Together, Cohere Forever — When healing a target ally, increases the target ally’s DMG dealt by +50% for 2 turns. | Exceptional Whale Tier | One of the most powerful healer Eidolons in HSR. A +50% DMG dealt buff applied every time Huohuo heals any ally — and since Divine Provision heals constantly, this applies to allies nearly every turn with high uptime. In fast-cycling hypercarry teams, E6 Huohuo effectively gives the primary DPS a near-permanent +50% DMG amplification that is multiplicative with everything else. Combined with E1’s SPD buff, Ultimate’s energy+ATK, and Night of Fright’s stacking ATK — E6 Huohuo is among the most powerful sustain characters in the entire game. Reserved for players building a single long-term flagship team around her. |
🦊 Investment Roadmap: E0S0 → E0S1 → E1S1
The community consensus (KQM, Prydwen, Mobalytics) establishes a clear priority path: E0S1 first — Night of Fright provides ERR (enabling HP% rope), the reactive heal on every ally Ultimate, and the stacking ATK buff. It improves Huohuo’s value across her entire account’s roster of teams. E1S1 next — E1’s permanent +12% SPD during Divine Provision and extended uptime elevate Huohuo closer to a full Harmony-Abundance hybrid. E2 adds valuable revive protection. Stop at E1S1 unless committing to E6 — E3, E4, E5 are incremental stepping stones to the E6 payoff. The jump from E5 to E6 is the most dramatic power spike in her Eidolon chain.
Best Character Synergies
Huohuo’s energy restoration is disproportionately valuable for characters with high Ultimate costs or whose DPS is tied to Ultimate frequency. The following characters receive exceptional value from her kit beyond standard healing.
| Character | Why They Love Huohuo | Rating | Key Benefit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aglaea | Requires constant Ultimate cycles for Supreme Stance uptime; Huohuo’s percentage energy restore smooths Aglaea’s rotation, enabling back-to-back Ultimates. E1 SPD buff also boosts Aglaea’s Garmentmaker Memosprite actions. | S-Tier Partner | Energy + SPD buff enable Supreme Stance chaining |
| Phainon | High Ultimate cost DPS who benefits from both ATK% and Energy restoration. Huohuo’s 40% ATK buff stacks with Sunday’s CRIT package for massive damage output. The energy restore keeps Phainon’s Ultimate windows frequent and consistent. | S-Tier Partner | ATK buff + Energy cycling maximises Phainon’s burst |
| Argenti | Argenti has maximum 90 Energy Ultimate cost — Huohuo’s 20% Max Energy restore grants him up to 18 Energy per Ultimate use. Scales directly with Argenti’s Max Energy cost, making it the most numerically impactful energy restoration in the game for him. | S-Tier Partner | 18 Energy per Huohuo Ult = dramatically faster Argenti cycles |
| Jingliu | Jingliu’s Transmigration state is extended by using her Ultimate — she needs her Ultimate as often as possible during burst windows. Huohuo’s energy push enables consecutive Ultimates during Transmigration. She already gets substantial ATK from her kit so the energy restore matters more than the ATK buff here. | S-Tier Partner | Energy enables Transmigration extension via consecutive Ultimates |
| Black Swan | DoT teams scale on ATK — Huohuo’s 40% ATK buff amplifies all of Black Swan’s Arcana stack damage. Her rolling debuff cleanse via Divine Provision prevents DoT characters from being CC’d. E1’s SPD buff helps DoT spread faster. | S-Tier Partner | 40% ATK = direct Arcana damage multiplier |
| Robin | Robin has the highest Energy cost among supports and struggles to reach Concerto state without external energy help in follow-up teams. Huohuo’s 20% Energy restore is a direct solution. Additionally, Huohuo’s ATK buff doesn’t conflict with Robin’s Concerto — they stack. | S-Tier Partner | Energy solves Robin’s Concerto timing bottleneck |
| Jing Yuan | After Sunday’s release, Huohuo is Jing Yuan’s best sustain because she synergises with both Sunday and Robin (the other two components of his best team) as an energy battery. The ATK buff benefits Lightning-Lord’s slash damage. | A-Tier Partner | Energy + ATK buff in Robin + Sunday teams |
| Kafka | Kafka doesn’t need Energy (her team has good energy generation), but the 40% ATK buff directly increases Kafka’s DoT damage and shockwave triggers. Huohuo’s debuff cleanse via Divine Provision keeps Kafka applying DoTs without interruption. | A-Tier Partner | 40% ATK amplifies all DoT damage output |
Best Team Compositions
Fox & Sunday — Phainon Hypercarry
The premier Phainon hypercarry team in HSR 4.0, and one of the highest-damage single-target compositions in the game. Sunday advances Phainon and his Summon simultaneously, providing CRIT Rate + CRIT DMG buffs. Tribbie adds team-wide Quantum RES PEN and AoE amplification. Huohuo sustains the team while providing the energy restoration Sunday and Tribbie both appreciate for faster Ultimate cycling.
Huohuo’s role here is critical: Phainon is a high Energy-cost DPS whose damage scales with Ultimate frequency. Huohuo’s 20% Max Energy restore allows Phainon to chain Ultimates more aggressively during Sunday’s action advance windows, creating devastating burst sequences. Her 40% ATK buff stacks multiplicatively with Sunday’s CRIT package. With E1, her +12% SPD buff during Divine Provision further accelerates the team’s action frequency, meaning Phainon acts more often within each combat cycle.
Note: Sunday can be replaced with Tribbie in AoE-heavy content, or with Sparkle/Bronya if Sunday is unavailable. The core of Phainon + Huohuo remains the strongest sustain configuration for his teams.
Midnight Venom — Black Swan DoT
The dominant DoT composition in HSR 4.0 and one of Huohuo’s most natural homes. Black Swan’s Arcana stacks, Kafka’s DoT propagation, and Ruan Mei’s damage amplification all scale on ATK — perfectly aligned with Huohuo’s 40% ATK buff from Ultimate. All three of Huohuo’s core offensive utilities (Energy, ATK%, SPD at E1) are used here.
Huohuo is the best sustain for this team for three reasons: (1) ATK buff amplifies every Arcana and DoT tick simultaneously; (2) Energy restore helps both Kafka and Black Swan reach their Ultimates faster, increasing DoT spread frequency; (3) her rolling debuff cleanse from Divine Provision removes the Crowd Control effects DoT bosses use to interrupt DoT application. No other sustain character provides this combination. Luocha matches her raw healing but provides none of the offensive utility.
Heavenly Weave — Aglaea Energy Cycle
Aglaea relies on maintaining Supreme Stance by continuously cycling her Ultimate — a challenge for Energy management even in a well-built team. Huohuo’s percentage-based Energy restoration directly enables Aglaea to chain back-to-back Ultimates during her Garmentmaker windows, maintaining Supreme Stance uptime far more consistently than with other healers.
Sunday simultaneously advances Aglaea and Garmentmaker, while Tribbie provides team-wide RES PEN. Huohuo’s E1 SPD buff during Divine Provision benefits all three — Aglaea, Garmentmaker, and Sunday all act faster within each cycle. This team is particularly effective in Memory of Chaos where cycle count is the optimization target. Replacing Tribbie with Lingsha is possible if sustain is critical, but Huohuo + Tribbie is the preferred configuration at high investment.
Transmigration Sovereign — Jingliu Hypercarry
Jingliu’s Transmigration state is her core damage window — she must extend it by using her Ultimate repeatedly during the state. Huohuo’s Energy restoration enables Jingliu to chain back-to-back Ultimates during Transmigration, dramatically extending the burst window and overall DPS ceiling.
Jingliu also drains HP from her teammates, which requires AoE healing — a role Huohuo fills perfectly via Divine Provision’s passive ticks. Notably, Jingliu already has extremely high ATK from her Transmigration state, so Huohuo’s 40% ATK buff adds relatively less here compared to other DPS characters. The Energy restoration is what makes Huohuo uniquely valuable for Jingliu over Luocha (who matches healing but provides no energy). Sunday provides Action Advance for Jingliu in Transmigration; Tribbie adds RES PEN.
Sky’s Talons — Feixiao Follow-Up
Feixiao’s follow-up attack team has excellent synergy with Huohuo for one specific reason: Robin’s Energy problem. Robin has the highest Energy cost of all supports and often cannot reach her Concerto state quickly enough in follow-up teams, especially on later waves. Huohuo’s energy restoration resolves this directly — every Huohuo Ultimate push enables Robin to reach her Concerto state faster, which in turn enables Feixiao’s FUA to trigger more frequently and hit harder.
Additionally, Huohuo’s 40% ATK buff benefits all FUA damage — Feixiao, Robin during Concerto, and Topaz’s Numby all scale on ATK. Gallagher is the main alternative sustain for this team (providing Break utility), but for players who prioritise sustained FUA damage over Break value, Huohuo’s offensive package edges ahead in pure damage-cycle efficiency.
Jade Spirit Budget — F2P Universal
Huohuo’s most accessible team structure for F2P and early-game players. She slots into virtually any ATK-scaling DPS team as the healer — Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae, Seele, Blade, Yanqing, Argenti, and countless others benefit from her ATK buff and Energy restoration. Ruan Mei provides Break Amplification and SPD for any team, Pela provides DEF reduction, and Huohuo sustains the whole composition.
The key advantage of Huohuo in F2P contexts is her universal flexibility — she is never a wrong choice. Any team that has an ATK-scaling DPS and wants a healer will benefit from her kit. Build her with an ERR rope and the Messenger 4-piece, aim for 131.4% ERR and 5,500+ HP, and she will sustain any endgame content you have access to. Unlike most SS Tier characters, Huohuo’s value is nearly composition-agnostic.
Playstyle Tips & Advanced Strategy
🦊 Maintaining Divine Provision — The Core Loop
Divine Provision is Huohuo’s passive healing engine and the core of her sustain identity. It lasts 2 turns from Skill (or 3 turns at E1), decreasing by 1 at the start of each of Huohuo’s turns — not ally turns. This means on a 4-character team where allies act frequently, Divine Provision triggers many times before Huohuo’s next turn decrements it. In the standard rotation (Skill → Basic → Basic → Ultimate), Divine Provision is active after T1 Skill. It decrements at T2 start (to 1 turn) and at T3 start (expires unless refreshed). This means you need to use Skill again by T5 at the latest. The key insight: never skip a Skill if you haven’t yet used it recently and Divine Provision is about to expire. In an emergency, prioritise Skill over Basic ATK even if it costs an SP.
⚡ Optimising Ultimate Timing — Who Benefits Most
Huohuo’s Ultimate restores 20% of each ally’s Max Energy. This means characters with high Energy costs receive more absolute Energy per Ultimate than those with low costs. When choosing when to use Huohuo’s Ultimate, ideally time it so that the character about to use their Ultimate is just short of their threshold — Huohuo’s push takes them over the edge, enabling a same-turn Ultimate without wasted Energy. For example: if Argenti has 72/90 Energy, Huohuo using Ultimate gives him 18 Energy (90 × 20% = 18), pushing him to 90/90 and enabling his Ultimate immediately. This kind of timing creates burst windows where Huohuo’s Ultimate triggers a cascade of ally Ultimates in succession — particularly powerful in Night of Fright teams where each ally Ultimate also triggers an additional reactive heal.
🌿 Positioning — Middle Slots for Maximum Passive Healing
Place Huohuo in position 1 or 4 (the far-edge slots) of the team lineup. This is because Huohuo’s Skill heals the primary target AND adjacent allies — so placing her at an edge means her Skill heals across positions 1-2 or 3-4, covering more of the team at once. Divine Provision’s passive ticks heal allies when their turn starts regardless of position, so positioning doesn’t affect passive healing. The practical consideration is: which two characters need the most healing burst? Place those two adjacent to each other and target the middle one with Skill. For teams where all four characters take similar damage, any positioning works — focus on other optimization factors.
🦊 Pro Tip: Night of Fright Reactive Heal Timing
With Night of Fright equipped, whenever any ally uses their Ultimate, Huohuo immediately heals the ally with the lowest HP% for 10% of that ally’s Max HP. In a team where all four characters use their Ultimates frequently (Aglaea, Sunday, Tribbie, Huohuo), this reactive heal fires multiple times per cycle with zero action cost. The practical benefit: in turns where an ally is at low HP and about to use their Ultimate, the Night of Fright heal fires immediately when they do — effectively creating a preemptive heal-before-the-turn-action sequence. This makes Night of Fright’s reactive heal uniquely valuable in high-tempo Ultimate teams where multiple Ultimates fire per cycle, creating constant reactive healing with no additional input required from you.
Should You Pull Huohuo?
✓ Pull If:
- You run Ultimate-cycling DPS characters — Aglaea, Argenti, Jingliu, DHIL, Jing Yuan, or any DPS whose damage is tied to Ultimate frequency. Huohuo’s 20% Energy restore is uniquely transformative for these characters.
- You run DoT teams — Black Swan and Kafka both benefit maximally from Huohuo’s 40% ATK buff (scaling all DoT and Arcana damage) and the rolling debuff cleanse that prevents DoT application from being interrupted by CC.
- You want a universal, evergreen healer — Huohuo slots into any ATK-scaling team as an excellent sustain option, offering offensive utility (Energy + ATK) no other Abundance healer provides. She has been SS Tier since Version 1.5 with no sign of powercrept relevance.
- You own Sunday or Robin — both strongly benefit from Huohuo’s energy push (Robin’s Concerto timing, Sunday’s Ultimate cycling for Beatified windows), making Huohuo their preferred sustain partner.
- You need reliable AoE debuff cleansing — Huohuo’s tri-source cleanse system (Skill, Talent ticks, A2 CC resistance) is unmatched among sustain characters and essential for debuff-heavy Apocalyptic Shadow content.
⚠️ Consider Skipping If:
- Your primary teams are Remembrance (HP-scaling) — Hyacine is definitively Castorice and Blade’s preferred sustain due to HP drain synergy, Max HP buff, and Memosprite RES PEN. Huohuo adds nothing unique for Remembrance teams that Hyacine doesn’t do better.
- Your primary content is Break-oriented — Gallagher provides Break Efficiency and Lingsha provides AoE FUA while healing. Huohuo’s ATK buff is irrelevant for Break teams (Break damage doesn’t scale ATK in the same way).
- You already have Luocha and are satisfied — Luocha matches or exceeds Huohuo in raw healing. The decision comes down to whether you need Huohuo’s Energy + ATK buff or not. If your DPS doesn’t need energy help, Luocha may suffice.
- You’re saving resources for a character who provides more specific value to your current roster — Huohuo’s value is high but universal; a character perfectly suited to your existing team may provide more immediate improvement.
Final Verdict: Huohuo is the most offensively-oriented healer in Honkai: Star Rail 4.0 — a Harmony support embedded in an Abundance shell. Her combination of reliable AoE healing, percentage-based team Energy restoration, 40% ATK buff, and rolling debuff cleanse creates a support package that no other sustain character replicates. She has been universally SS Tier since her release in Version 1.5 and continues to rank among the top three sustain characters in the game across all endgame modes. For any player running Ultimate-dependent DPS characters, DoT teams, or teams that benefit from ATK% amplification alongside healing, Huohuo is the optimal healer — and her value only increases with E1 and her signature Light Cone. One of the safest long-term investments in HSR.
Huohuo vs Other SS Tier Characters
vs Hyacine (Wind Remembrance Healer): Hyacine is Huohuo’s direct competitor in the sustain role but serves entirely different team archetypes. Hyacine is definitively better for HP-scaling (Castorice, Blade, Mydei) and Remembrance teams. Huohuo is definitively better for ATK-scaling DPS, DoT, and Ultimate-cycling teams. If you own both, assign them to their optimal teams — they don’t compete for the same slot.
vs Sunday (Imaginary Harmony): Sunday is a Harmony support, not a sustain — they are complementary, not competing. Sunday + Huohuo is the gold-standard pairing for single-target hypercarry teams (Phainon, Jingliu, DHIL). Sunday advances the DPS and provides CRIT buffs; Huohuo sustains and provides Energy + ATK. Together they make a DPS character almost unstoppable.
vs Tribbie (Quantum Harmony): Tribbie is a support, not a sustain. In Phainon teams and other high-damage compositions, teams often run Sunday + Tribbie + Huohuo together — all three providing different, non-overlapping buffs. Tribbie’s RES PEN + Huohuo’s Energy/ATK + Sunday’s CRIT package creates the highest possible damage output in hypercarry configurations.
vs Feixiao (Wind Hunt DPS): Feixiao is a DPS character who actually benefits from Huohuo’s energy push for Robin’s Concerto timing in FUA teams. In Feixiao + Robin + Topaz + Huohuo, Huohuo enables Robin to reach Concerto state faster, directly amplifying Feixiao’s follow-up attack frequency. They are DPS-Healer partners, not competitors.
