Who Is Huohuo in Honkai Star Rail?
Huohuo is a 5-star Wind character following the Path of Abundance in Honkai Star Rail. She debuted in Version 1.5 (November 2023) and has held a top-tier position in every endgame mode ever since — across Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and Apocalyptic Shadow. She is the most offensively-oriented healer in the game, combining pure healing with team-wide ATK buffs, Energy restoration, and passive debuff cleansing that no other Abundance character can replicate.
In the game’s lore, Huohuo is a trainee Ten-Lords Commission Judge on the Xianzhou Luofu — a timid, nervous Foxian girl who is afraid of almost everything. She is also possessed by a powerful heliobus spirit who lives in her tail. The heliobus, known as Huo Huo’s “other half,” is responsible for much of the magical power Huohuo wields. Her character design plays on this contrast between the anxious girl and the commanding spirit beautifully, and it shows in her combat animations.
Huohuo received significant Novaflare buffs in Version 4.2 (April 22, 2026) that strengthened her kit in meaningful ways: Divine Provision’s base duration extended from 2 to 3 turns, a new A6 bonus ATK for allies with 160+ Max Energy, and a stronger E1. As of Version 4.2, she was also added to the Stellar Convergence Store alongside her signature Light Cone Night of Fright, making her permanently accessible without waiting for a banner rerun. For players who missed her banners, this is the recommended way to get her now.

Huohuo Kit Overview – How Her Abilities Work
Huohuo’s kit is built around three simultaneous healing channels: her Skill for active burst healing, her Ultimate for Energy refill and ATK buffing, and her Talent’s Divine Provision for continuous passive healing between her turns. All three work in concert, and understanding how Divine Provision interacts with the rest of her kit is the key to getting maximum value.
Basic Attack – Caution: Runaway!
Deals Wind DMG equal to 50% of Huohuo’s Max HP to a single enemy. Rarely used in standard rotation, but generates some Energy and contributes minor damage. All her ability multipliers scale off Max HP, so even her basic attack contributes marginally to the healing-adjacent Max HP stat. Use Basic ATK when Skill Points are tight and her Divine Provision is already active.
Skill – Talisman: Protection
The primary active healing tool. It:
- Dispels 1 debuff from a single targeted ally.
- Restores HP equal to 24% of Huohuo’s Max HP plus 640 for the targeted ally.
- Restores HP equal to 19.2% of Huohuo’s Max HP plus 512 for allies adjacent to the target.
- After use, grants Huohuo Divine Provision (see Talent below).
The Skill heals three of four allies simultaneously in most team configurations — the primary target and the two adjacents. The fourth character (whoever is at the end of the line) gets no direct Skill heal, but is covered by Divine Provision’s passive healing. In most teams this is acceptable, but it means you should position your squishiest character toward the center of the formation so Skill heals can reach them.
Ultimate – Tail: Spiritual Domination
This is what makes Huohuo uniquely powerful among healers. Her Ultimate does two things simultaneously:
- Restores Energy for all teammates (excluding Huohuo herself) by 20% of their respective Max Energy. This is percentage-based, not a flat number. A character with 350 Max Energy gets 70 Energy. A character with 90 Max Energy gets 18. The more expensive a character’s Ultimate, the more they benefit.
- Increases all allies’ ATK by 40% for 2 turns. This is one of the largest flat ATK buffs in the game from a sustain slot, and it stacks with most other offensive buffs.
The Ultimate also triggers Divine Provision (post-Novaflare buffs), so both Skill and Ultimate now extend the passive healing state. This means Huohuo can maintain Divine Provision with a Basic Attack → Basic Attack → Skill or Ultimate rotation at E0, making her relatively SP-positive compared to earlier versions of her kit. Use the Ultimate before your main DPS’s turn to ensure the ATK buff is active when they deal damage.
Talent – Possession: Ethereal Metaflow (Divine Provision)
After using her Skill or Ultimate, Huohuo gains Divine Provision, lasting for 3 turns (decreased by 1 at the start of each of Huohuo’s turns). While Divine Provision is active:
- At the start of each ally’s turn or when any ally uses their Ultimate, Huohuo restores HP for that ally and the ally with the lowest current HP percentage by an amount equal to 4.5% of Huohuo’s Max HP plus 120.
- Any ally currently at or below 50% HP also receives an additional heal of 4.5% Max HP plus 120.
Divine Provision is what makes Huohuo’s healing truly reactive and omnipresent. Unlike healers who only heal when it’s their turn, Huohuo’s passive healing fires on every ally turn — which in a fast-moving team with 3–4 characters taking actions rapidly means constant rolling HP restoration throughout the entire enemy phase. Against bosses with high-frequency attacks, Divine Provision effectively makes the team unkillable as long as it stays active.
A2 Trace – Fearful to Act
At battle start, Huohuo regenerates 30 Energy and gains 2 turns of Divine Provision immediately. This means she enters every fight with her passive healing already active and significantly closer to her first Ultimate. In endgame content this is extremely valuable — the team starts healing immediately without needing Huohuo to burn a Skill Point first.
A4 Trace – Stress Reaction to Horror
When Huohuo’s Talent is triggered to heal allies (i.e., when Divine Provision fires), she regenerates 1 Energy. Since Divine Provision triggers on every ally turn and Ultimate use while active, this generates a steady stream of Energy for Huohuo throughout the fight. More Energy means more frequent Ultimates, which means more frequent ATK buffs and Energy restoration for the team. A compounding benefit that significantly improves Ultimate cycle consistency.
A6 Trace – The Cursed One
After Version 4.2’s Novaflare buff, this trace now has two effects:
- Increases Huohuo’s resistance to Crowd Control debuffs by 35% — meaningful for surviving boss CC mechanics.
- When Huohuo uses her Ultimate, if any ally has a Max Energy of 160 or higher, that ally additionally gains 24% ATK on top of the standard 40% (for a total of 64% ATK from the Ultimate). This is a major bonus for high-energy-cost DPS characters like Aglaea (350 Energy), Argenti (90 or 180 Energy), and Yunli.
Technique – Tail: Hex-and-Slash
When used in the overworld, removes 1 debuff from a single ally at battle start and grants all allies HP restoration equal to 18% of Huohuo’s Max HP. The pre-battle heal keeps the team topped up entering any fight. Always use this before entering boss rooms in endgame content.
Huohuo Best Light Cones in HSR
Huohuo follows the Path of Abundance. Only Abundance path Light Cones activate passive effects on her. Her signature is the clear best option, though she is one of the characters where F2P alternatives are relatively close in performance.
Night of Fright (Signature – Best in Slot)
Huohuo’s dedicated 5-star signature Light Cone is the best option. At S1, it provides 12% Energy Regeneration Rate — the critical stat for maintaining her 2-turn Ultimate rotation without needing an Energy Regeneration Rope (freeing that slot for HP%). When any ally uses their Ultimate, Huohuo restores HP to the ally with the lowest current HP percentage by an amount equal to 10% of their Max HP — a reactive triggered heal that fires independently of Divine Provision. Every healed ally also receives a stacking ATK boost of 2.4% per stack (up to 5 stacks, lasting 2 turns). In practice, this means the entire team accumulates 12% ATK from being healed — stacking on top of the Ultimate’s 40% ATK buff. The signature enables HP% Rope (since ERR is handled by the LC), provides reactive emergency healing, and layers additional ATK onto the team. Pull it when her banner or the Stellar Convergence store is available.
Echoes of the Coffin (Luocha’s Signature – Strong Alternative)
A powerful 5-star alternative that provides Max HP and restores Energy for Huohuo after her Skill or Ultimate, plus a team-wide SPD buff. The SPD buff for all allies after Ultimate makes this particularly appealing in high-speed teams. A solid secondary option if you have this from pulling Luocha and cannot get Night of Fright.
Post-Op Conversation (4-Star – Best F2P Option)
The best accessible 4-star for Huohuo. Provides Energy Regeneration Rate and Outgoing Healing Boost — both directly useful stats. The ERR helps maintain Ultimate cycle, and the healing boost improves all three of Huohuo’s healing channels (Skill, Divine Provision, Technique). At high Superimposition, this is competitive with 5-star options. Easily obtained from the gacha pool or as event rewards. If you do not have Night of Fright, build this to S5 first.
Shared Feeling (4-Star)
Provides Outgoing Healing and Energy regeneration for a random ally when Huohuo uses her Skill. Solid value for improving raw healing output and supplementing Energy for the team. Use this if Post-Op Conversation is unavailable.
Multiplication (4-Star Herta Store)
Max HP and Outgoing Healing — straightforward stats that improve Huohuo’s healing multipliers and Divine Provision values. Usable but lacks the Energy Regeneration that makes Post-Op Conversation the preferred 4-star choice.
Huohuo Best Relics in HSR
Huohuo’s relic priority focuses on three stats: HP (for healing output), Energy Regeneration (for Ultimate uptime), and Speed (for more turns, more frequent Divine Provision triggers, and after E1, the 12% team SPD buff uptime). The relic set choice has a meaningful impact on both her own performance and team-wide utility.
Best 4-Piece Relic Set: Warrior Goddess of Sun and Thunder
This is Huohuo’s best relic set after her Novaflare buffs. The 2-piece bonus gives SPD, helping her cycle more frequently. The 4-piece is the key: whenever Huohuo or her Memosprite heals an ally, she gains Gentle Rain (lasting 2 turns, triggering once per turn). While Gentle Rain is active, her SPD increases by 6% and all allies’ CRIT DMG increases by 15%. Since Divine Provision triggers healing constantly through ally turns, Gentle Rain remains up essentially the entire fight. The team-wide 15% CRIT DMG is a meaningful multiplier for any CRIT-scaling DPS character. This set replaced Messenger Traversing Hackerspace as the top recommendation after Version 3.3.
Alternative: Messenger Traversing Hackerspace
The previous best-in-slot. The 4-piece gives all allies a 12% SPD boost for 1 turn when Huohuo uses her Ultimate. The SPD burst is useful for action economy but lasts only 1 turn compared to Warrior Goddess’s more consistent uptime on CRIT DMG. Still a strong alternative if you have well-rolled Messenger pieces and are waiting to farm Warrior Goddess.
Alternative: 2-Piece Combinations
A 2-piece Warrior Goddess (SPD) combined with 2-piece Passerby of Wandering Cloud (Outgoing Healing) or 2-piece Longevous Disciple (HP) is a viable transition set while farming for a complete 4-piece Warrior Goddess. The healing boost from Passerby’s 2-piece or the HP increase from Longevous Disciple can keep Huohuo effective while your relic farming progresses.
Best Planar Ornament: Fleet of the Ageless
Huohuo’s best Planar Ornament. It provides Max HP% (scaling all her HP-based healing), and when Huohuo’s SPD reaches 120 or above (easily met at all times), all allies gain a 8% ATK boost. The ATK boost stacks with her Ultimate’s 40% ATK and the Night of Fright stacking ATK, creating a substantial combined ATK package for any DPS on the team. This is the ornament to farm first.
Alternative Planar Ornament: Broken Keel
Provides Max HP% and, when Huohuo’s Effect RES reaches 30%+, grants all allies 10% CRIT DMG. Huohuo naturally accumulates around 18% Effect RES from traces and can reach 30%+ with minor substat investment. In teams with CRIT-heavy DPS like Phainon or Jingliu, the 10% CRIT DMG plus 15% from Warrior Goddess 4-piece creates 25% combined team CRIT DMG from Huohuo’s equipment alone. Use Broken Keel when your team is CRIT DMG-focused and you have strong HP substats elsewhere. Otherwise Fleet of the Ageless is the default pick.
Relic Main Stats to Target
- Head: HP (fixed)
- Hands: ATK (fixed — irrelevant for Huohuo but the slot is locked)
- Body: Outgoing Healing Boost — increases all three of her healing channels (Skill, Divine Provision ticks, Technique).
- Feet: SPD — essential for reaching her target thresholds and triggering more frequent Divine Provision heals. Aim for 134–160 in combat.
- Planar Sphere: HP% — directly scales all her healing multipliers and Technique heal. Wind DMG is useless on a healer.
- Link Rope: Energy Regeneration Rate — needed to maintain 2-turn Ultimate cycles without the signature LC. HP% if running Night of Fright (which already covers ERR).
Key Substat Priority
SPD is the top substat — more turns means more Divine Provision triggers and more frequent Ultimates. HP% is the second priority — scales all healing output. Effect RES to 30%+ if running Broken Keel as Planar Ornament. Energy Regeneration Rate substats help if you need to hit the 119%+ ERR threshold without the signature LC. Avoid ATK%, flat ATK, CRIT Rate, and CRIT DMG — none of these benefit her support function.
Stat Targets
- SPD: 134–160 in combat
- HP: 5,600+ (higher is always better for healing output)
- Energy Regeneration Rate: 119%+ if not running Night of Fright
- Effect RES: 30%+ if running Broken Keel planar ornament
Huohuo Best Teams in HSR 4.3
Huohuo is most impactful in teams built around high-energy-cost DPS characters who want frequent Ultimates. The 20% Max Energy restoration scales with Max Energy — so the more expensive a character’s Ultimate, the more Energy Huohuo’s Ultimate returns per cast. Additionally, after her Novaflare A6 buff, characters with 160+ Max Energy now receive an extra 24% ATK from her Ultimate on top of the standard 40%.
Premium Summon Team: Aglaea / Sunday / Robin / Huohuo
This is Huohuo’s peak team and one of the strongest compositions in 4.3. Aglaea is a Lightning Remembrance DPS with a 350-Energy Ultimate that requires constant cycling for Supreme Stance uptime. Huohuo’s 20% Max Energy restoration gives Aglaea 70 Energy per Ultimate cast — the highest numerical Energy return in the game for any single character. Combined with Sunday‘s 20% Energy restore from The Beatified plus Action Advance, and Robin‘s team-wide ATK and action frequency buffs, Aglaea can chain Ultimates with remarkable speed. Huohuo’s 40% ATK buff and 64% ATK (with A6) for 160+ energy allies round out the offensive support. This team dominates both Memory of Chaos and Apocalyptic Shadow.
Hypercarry Team: Phainon / Sunday / Bronya / Huohuo
Phainon benefits from Huohuo’s ATK buff and Energy restoration for pre-transformation Coreflame generation. The 40% ATK buff from Huohuo’s Ultimate applies before Phainon’s transformation window and is snapshotted, persisting through Khaslana’s 8 enhanced turns. Sunday and Bronya both provide Action Advance and CRIT buffs. Huohuo handles all sustain without needing to sacrifice offensive slots. This team pushes Phainon to extremely high single-target DPS in Apocalyptic Shadow.
Nihility Team: Acheron / Jiaoqiu / Tribbie / Huohuo
Acheron teams typically want two Nihility characters, but at E2 Acheron, one Nihility slot can be replaced by a Harmony or sustain. Huohuo slots into this spot — her ATK buff and Energy restoration help Acheron charge her Ultimate faster, while Jiaoqiu provides the Nihility debuff requirement. Tribbie covers RES PEN and DMG amplification. Huohuo’s debuff cleanse from her Skill is also valuable against bosses that apply frequent debuffs.
Classic Energy Team: Jing Yuan / Sunday / Robin / Huohuo
Jing Yuan runs perfectly with Huohuo — the Energy restoration helps him cycle his Ultimate, Sunday advances both Jing Yuan and Lightning-Lord simultaneously, and Huohuo’s ATK buff applies to all Lightning-Lord hits. The debuff cleanse from Huohuo’s Skill also protects Jing Yuan from CC that would otherwise delay or cancel Lightning-Lord’s attack. A strong and consistent team for multi-enemy content.
Budget Team: Phainon / Tingyun / Ruan Mei / Huohuo
An accessible mid-investment team for players without Sunday or Robin. Tingyun provides ATK buff and Energy restoration. Ruan Mei gives passive DMG% buff and SPD bonus. Huohuo handles healing and adds her ATK buff on top. Clears all endgame content reliably at lower investment than the premium compositions.
Characters Huohuo Synergizes With Best
- Aglaea – Highest Energy return from Huohuo’s Ultimate. A6 bonus ATK applies (350 Energy > 160 threshold).
- Jing Yuan – Energy restoration solves rotation issues. Debuff cleanse protects Lightning-Lord.
- Yunli – Large Energy pool and off-turn counter DPS. Huohuo’s ATK buff amplifies counter damage.
- Argenti – 90 Max Energy for standard Ultimate or 180 for enhanced — both get meaningful Energy restoration. A6 applies at 160+.
- Blade – HP-drain mechanic benefits from Huohuo’s constant Divine Provision healing keeping HP topped up for more drain triggers.
- Kafka / Black Swan – DoT teams benefit from Huohuo’s debuff cleanse (protecting allies) and Energy restoration (accelerating DoT Ultimate cycles).
Huohuo Trace Priority
As a healer and support, Huohuo’s trace priority focuses on the abilities that scale her healing output and maintain Divine Provision uptime.
- All Three Major Traces – Unlock immediately. A2 (30 Energy + 2-turn Divine Provision at battle start), A4 (1 Energy per Divine Provision heal trigger), and A6 (35% CC resist + 24% ATK for 160+ energy allies) are all permanently active buffs with no rotation management needed. Unlock all three as the highest priority use of Trace materials. These are more impactful per material spent than leveling any individual ability.
- Skill – Second. Higher Skill level increases the HP restoration values on both the primary target and adjacent targets. Since Skill is her main active healing tool and also triggers Divine Provision, every level meaningfully improves team survival.
- Ultimate – Third. Higher Ultimate level increases both the ATK buff percentage (toward 40%) and the Energy restoration value. Since the Energy restore is already percentage-based (20% Max Energy), level gains are about pushing toward the maximum values at earlier levels.
- Talent – Fourth. Higher Talent level increases the HP restoration values of each Divine Provision tick. Since this fires on every ally action while active, even small per-tick increases accumulate into significant total healing over a fight.
- Basic Attack – Last. Used only when SP is tight. Contributes minimal healing-adjacent value. Level this only after everything else is maxed.
Huohuo Eidolons – Which Ones Are Worth It?
Huohuo performs strongly at E0, but her E1 received significant buffs from Novaflare in Version 4.2 and is now one of the most impactful single Eidolons available for a sustain character.
E1 – Best Value Eidolon (Priority Investment)
E1’s Novaflare buff makes this substantially stronger than it was at launch. The updated E1 (Anchored to Vessel, Specters Nestled) provides:
- Extends Divine Provision duration from 3 turns to 4 turns. The 4-turn duration means Divine Provision stays active through an entire Basic → Basic → Skill or Basic → Skill cycle with 1 turn to spare, enabling near-permanent uptime even in slower rotations.
- When Huohuo has Divine Provision, all allies’ SPD increases by 12%. In a fast team, this SPD buff applies for the majority of the fight, meaningfully increasing action frequency for every character — effectively functioning like a persistent Harmony buff from the sustain slot.
- When Huohuo has Divine Provision, her Outgoing Healing increases by 20%. Combined with the Warrior Goddess 4-piece’s bonus healing and Outgoing Healing from body relic, E1 Huohuo heals substantially more per trigger than E0.
For players using Huohuo in multiple teams or as their primary sustain across all content, E1S1 is the clear recommended investment target. The 12% team SPD effectively functions as a permanent Harmony-tier buff from the sustain slot, and the extended Divine Provision gives far more scheduling flexibility in rotations.
E2 – Survivability / Emergency Revive
When Huohuo has Divine Provision and an ally would be knocked down by a killing blow, that ally is not knocked down and instead has their HP immediately restored to 50% of their Max HP. This can trigger up to 2 times per battle. Particularly valuable in Apocalyptic Shadow where boss mechanics can one-shot characters. A solid upgrade for aggressive playstyles or for surviving difficult boss phases, but less universally impactful than E1 for overall output.
E4 – Personal Healing Enhancement
Increases Huohuo’s healing in various scenarios tied to Divine Provision. A solid quality-of-life improvement that makes Divine Provision more reliable against high-damage burst windows. Incremental value compared to E1 and E2.
E6 – Maximum Investment
At E6, Huohuo can continuously trigger healing at a much higher rate, significantly increasing total healing throughput throughout a battle. E6 is a large total power spike but requires going through E3, E4, and E5 which are stepping stones. Community guidance is to stop at E1S1 and only continue to E6 if fully committing.
Huohuo Rotation Guide – How to Play Her
Huohuo’s rotation is straightforward — the goal is to maintain Divine Provision as much as possible while using Ultimate whenever ready to restore team Energy and apply the ATK buff.
Battle Start
Huohuo enters every fight with 30 Energy already loaded (A2 trace) and 2 turns of Divine Provision active. Use Technique before the fight to add a pre-battle HP heal. The team is already healing from turn one without spending a Skill Point.
Core Rotation – Divine Provision Maintenance
With the post-4.2 Novaflare buff, Divine Provision now has a 3-turn base duration (4 turns at E1) and is triggered by both Skill AND Ultimate. The practical rotation becomes:
- Basic ATK → Basic ATK → Skill (or Ultimate): This 3-action cycle maintains Divine Provision indefinitely at E0, since you refresh it before it expires. The team is essentially always in passive healing mode.
- At E1, the 4-turn duration gives even more flexibility: Basic → Basic → Basic → Skill can work in some scenarios, making Huohuo very SP-positive.
- Use Ultimate as soon as it is ready — priority over the Skill if both are available, since the Ultimate fires the ATK buff and Energy restoration that the team needs.
Timing the Ultimate
The 40% ATK buff from Ultimate lasts 2 turns. For maximum value, activate it just before your DPS character’s turn. If your DPS needs two actions to deal most of their damage (like DHIL or Phainon’s pre-transformation Coreflame phase), try to time it so both DPS turns fall within the 2-turn ATK buff window. With Night of Fright’s stacking ATK from healing on top, the combined buff windows can reach impressive total ATK multipliers.
Debuff Management
Huohuo’s Skill also cleanses 1 debuff from the targeted ally. In content where bosses apply heavy debuffs (Imprisonment, Entanglement, ATK reduction, etc.), targeting the debuffed character with Skill serves double duty — healing them and removing the debuff simultaneously. Keep this in mind when choosing who to target with each Skill cast.
Should You Pull Huohuo in HSR 4.3?
Yes — Huohuo is one of the best sustain investments in the game. She is T0 in Memory of Chaos and Apocalyptic Shadow, and T0.5 in Pure Fiction. More importantly, she provides offensive utility from the sustain slot that most other healers cannot match: the 40% ATK buff (64% for high-energy allies after A6), 20% Max Energy restoration, and rolling debuff cleanse. She is not just keeping your team alive — she is actively accelerating their damage output every 2–3 turns.
The biggest practical advantage: as of Version 4.2, both Huohuo and her signature Light Cone Night of Fright were added to the Stellar Convergence Store. Players who missed her banners can now obtain her permanently without waiting for a rerun. If you have the Stellar Convergence currency, she is one of the highest-value characters to acquire from the store.
The primary limitation to know: Huohuo cannot prevent one-shots the way shielders like Aventurine or Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae can. Her E2 provides a once-per-phase revival, but E0 Huohuo relies purely on HP restoration to keep the team alive. In content with extreme burst mechanics, she occasionally requires more careful play than shield-based alternatives. In most standard endgame content, however, her reactive Divine Provision healing is more than sufficient.
For the best teams to use alongside her, check our guides for Aglaea, Phainon, Jing Yuan, Sunday, and Robin. For alternative sustain options to compare, see our guides for Hyacine, Luocha, and Gallagher.
