Gallagher is one of the best 4-star healers in Honkai Star Rail, and he remains a top-tier sustain option in patch 4.3. Unlike most healers, his kit is built around Break Effect rather than raw HP or Outgoing Healing. This Gallagher build guide covers everything — best Light Cones, Relics, stat priorities, team comps, and Eidolons — so you can get the most out of him in the current patch.

Who Is Gallagher in Honkai Star Rail?
Gallagher is a 4-star character following the Path of Abundance with the Fire element. He is a security officer of the Bloodhound Family at Penacony — and a very unconventional mixologist. His casual attitude hides a sharp eye and a complicated past.
On the battlefield, Gallagher plays nothing like a traditional healer. He does not simply top up HP. Instead, he applies a debuff called Besotted to enemies, and while that debuff is active, every ally attack on the marked enemy restores the attacker’s HP. His healing output scales directly with his Break Effect stat via the A2 Trace, Novel Concoction, which converts up to 75% of his Break Effect into bonus Outgoing Healing.
That makes him one of the most unique 4-star characters in the game — a sustain unit who also boosts Break damage, debuffs enemies, and can solo-sustain most content without much investment. He is obtainable from standard banners and is highly recommended for any account.
Gallagher Skills and Abilities
Basic ATK – Corkage Fee
Deals Fire DMG to a single target. Simple and rarely your priority. It does get upgraded to Nectar Blitz after using his Ultimate, which is when it becomes worth using.
Enhanced Basic ATK – Nectar Blitz
Deals Fire DMG to a single target and reduces their ATK for 2 turns. This enhanced version also triggers the team healing from his Talent on all allies when used against a Besotted enemy (thanks to the A6 Trace). Use it immediately after your Ultimate every rotation.
Skill – Special Brew
Immediately heals a single ally. Also removes 1 debuff from the target at E2. A clean, reliable emergency heal. Use it on whoever needs it most, or on a carry that gets debuffed by the enemy.
Ultimate – Champagne Etiquette
Inflicts Besotted on all enemies for 2 turns, deals Fire AoE DMG, and upgrades Gallagher’s next Basic ATK to Nectar Blitz. This is the core of his rotation. Use it as often as possible to keep Besotted uptime high on all enemies. Costs 110 Energy.
Talent – Tipsy Tussle
The Besotted state increases Break DMG the target receives by a flat percentage. Every time a Besotted target is attacked by an ally, the attacker’s HP is restored. This passive healing is what makes Gallagher so strong — the whole team heals themselves just by attacking normally.
Major Traces
- Novel Concoction (A2): Boosts Outgoing Healing by 50% of his Break Effect, capped at a 75% increase. This is why 150% Break Effect is the target — it fully caps this trace
- Organic Yeast (A4): After using his Ultimate, Gallagher’s Action is immediately Advanced Forward by 100%. This means he acts again almost straight away, letting him use Nectar Blitz on the same wave
- Bottoms Up (A6): When Gallagher uses Nectar Blitz on Besotted enemies, the Talent’s HP restore also applies to all other allies. This is what makes his healing team-wide rather than single target
Gallagher Best Light Cones (4.3)
1. Night of Fright (Best in Slot – 5-Star)
Huohuo’s signature Light Cone is the best option for Gallagher if you have it. It boosts Energy Regeneration Rate by 12%, and whenever any ally uses their Ultimate, Gallagher heals the ally with the lowest HP by 10% of their Max HP. It also stacks ATK buffs on healed allies. The Energy Regeneration helps him cycle his Ultimate faster, which directly means more Besotted uptime and more healing.
2. What Is Real? (Best F2P Option)
The go-to free-to-play pick and an excellent choice for most players. It boosts Break Effect directly (up to 48% at S5), helping Gallagher hit the 150% threshold more easily. It also restores Gallagher’s own HP after each Basic ATK, keeping him healthy without needing extra attention. You can buy this from the Simulated Universe shop and superimpose it over time at no cost.
3. Post-Op Conversation (4-Star Alternative)
Increases Energy Regeneration Rate and restores HP to the ally with the lowest HP% when the wearer uses their Ultimate. A solid filler option if you have neither of the above. It supports faster Ultimate cycling, which is always good for Gallagher.
4. Shared Feeling (4-Star)
Increases Outgoing Healing and regenerates 2 Energy for a random ally whenever the wearer uses their Skill. Less powerful than the options above, but usable if nothing else is available.
Gallagher Best Relic Sets (4.3)
Thief of Shooting Meteor (4-Piece) – Best in Slot
This is Gallagher’s definitive best relic set. The 2-piece bonus gives +16% Break Effect, and the 4-piece bonus adds another +16% Break Effect plus 3 Energy regeneration whenever Gallagher inflicts Weakness Break. That is a total of 32% Break Effect from the set alone — the single biggest source of it available from relics. Stack this alongside substat Break Effect and your Planar Ornament to hit the 150% target.
Thief of Shooting Meteor (2) + Watchmaker, Master of Dream Machinations (2)
A strong alternative combination if you have better-statted pieces across both sets. Each 2-piece gives +16% Break Effect, so you still get the same total Break Effect bonus without needing a clean 4-piece. Slightly less convenient due to the loss of the energy-on-break effect, but the stat floor is identical.
Watchmaker, Master of Dream Machinations (4-Piece)
Viable for Gallagher in Break-oriented teams. Note that Gallagher himself cannot trigger the 4-piece effect (which requires using an Ultimate on an ally). But the Break Effect from both pieces still helps him. Best reserved for a team that does not already have another Watchmaker wearer.
Gallagher Best Planar Ornaments (4.3)
Talia: Kingdom of Banditry (Best)
The top Planar Ornament choice. The 2-piece gives +16% Break Effect, with a further +20% Break Effect bonus when Gallagher’s SPD reaches 145. Combine this with the Thief relic set and good substats, and hitting 150% Break Effect becomes very achievable. Always aim for 145 SPD to activate the conditional bonus.
Broken Keel (Alternative)
A good alternative if you want to support CRIT-based team mates. Gallagher naturally stacks a lot of Effect RES from his minor traces (+28% total), which means he can usually reach the 30% Effect RES threshold to trigger Broken Keel’s 4-piece bonus — giving all allies +10% CRIT DMG. Useful if your main DPS benefits from it.
Forge of the Kalpagni Lantern (Fire Break Teams)
Strong in teams that fight Fire-weak enemies, such as alongside Firefly. It gives +6% SPD and +40% Break Effect for one turn when Gallagher hits a Fire-weak enemy. Very powerful in the right context, but situational.
Gallagher Best Stats and Substats (4.3)
Main Stats
- Body: Outgoing Healing Boost
- Boots: SPD (prioritise reaching 145)
- Planar Sphere (Orb): HP%
- Link Rope: Energy Regeneration Rate or Break Effect%
Substat Priority
- Break Effect% (most important — aim for 150% total)
- SPD (reach 145 for Talia bonus)
- HP% and Flat HP (for survivability)
- Effect RES (helps reach Broken Keel threshold if using that ornament)
The golden rule for Gallagher: do not stack ATK. Despite his kit dealing Fire DMG, his healing does not scale with ATK. His A2 Trace Novel Concoction scales off Break Effect, so every piece of gear you equip should be pushing that number up. The 150% Break Effect cap for Novel Concoction is your primary build goal in 4.3.
Gallagher Best Team Compositions (4.3)
Best Team: Firefly, Fugue, Ruan Mei, Gallagher
This is the classic Fire Break team and the strongest context for Gallagher. Firefly as the main DPS hits hard against Fire-weak enemies and generates frequent Weakness Breaks. Fugue and Ruan Mei amplify Break DMG, extend Weakness Break duration, and keep the toughness bar shredded. Gallagher heals the team through his Besotted passive, boosts Break DMG via his Talent, and provides the Fire element to synergise with Forge of the Kalpagni Lantern. Everyone works together cleanly.
Debuff Team: Acheron, Silver Wolf, Pela, Gallagher
Gallagher is an excellent partner for Acheron teams. His Besotted debuff counts as a debuff for Acheron’s stacks. Silver Wolf and Pela pile on more debuffs to keep Acheron’s counter climbing. Gallagher keeps everyone alive while contributing to the debuff economy — a natural fit.
General Use: Any DPS, Ruan Mei, Gallagher + Flex
One of Gallagher’s best qualities is that he slots into almost any team. He is particularly valuable as the sole sustain unit because his passive team-wide healing from Nectar Blitz is very reliable. Pair him with Ruan Mei for Break support and fill the fourth slot with whatever DPS you are running. He works alongside Kafka, Blade, Jingliu, and most other DPS characters without any issues.
Units That Pair Well With Gallagher
- Ruan Mei – Break DMG amplification and SPD buffs
- Firefly – Core Fire Break DPS partner
- Fugue – Super Break support, excellent in Break teams
- Acheron – Gallagher’s Besotted feeds her debuff counter
- Kafka – DoT teams benefit from reliable healing without sacrificing debuff slots
- Black Swan – More DoT synergy alongside Kafka
- Rappa – Another strong Break DPS who benefits from Gallagher’s Break support
Gallagher Eidolons – Are They Worth It?
As a 4-star character, Gallagher is much easier to Eidolon than 5-star characters. You will naturally accumulate copies from standard banner pulls and featured rate-ups.
E1 – Salty Dog
When Gallagher enters battle, he regenerates 20 Energy immediately and gains +50% Effect RES. The Energy head start is very practical — it means he can use his Ultimate sooner in the first cycle, getting Besotted active faster. A strong E1.
E2 – Lion’s Tail
When Gallagher uses his Skill, he removes 1 debuff from the target ally and grants them +30% Effect RES for 2 turns. Cleansing is a very valuable utility in endgame content. This Eidolon is a notable quality-of-life upgrade, especially in fights with heavy debuffing enemies.
E4 – Last Word
Extends Besotted duration by 1 turn after using his Ultimate. More Besotted uptime means more passive healing ticks and more Break DMG boost. Solid, though less impactful than E1 or E2.
E6 – Blood and Sand
Increases Break Effect by 20% and Weakness Break Efficiency by 20%. More Break Effect directly buffs his healing via Novel Concoction. A good E6 for a 4-star, but not something you need to actively chase.
Recommended stopping point: E2. E1 and E2 together give Gallagher noticeably better energy economy and cleanse utility. Beyond that, the returns are smaller. E0 is perfectly functional for all content in 4.3.
Gallagher Trace Priority
Level up Gallagher’s Traces in this order:
- Talent – Directly scales his per-hit HP restore from Besotted. The most impactful upgrade
- Ultimate – More Besotted duration and slightly more AoE damage
- Skill – Bigger single-target heals in emergency situations
- Basic ATK – The lowest priority. Level it last
Always unlock all three Major Traces (A2, A4, A6) as a priority — they define how Gallagher works. Without A6 (Bottoms Up), his Nectar Blitz healing only affects one ally rather than the whole team.
Gallagher Ascension Materials
- Credits: 3,308,000
- Dream Collection Components, Dream Flow Valves, and Making Engines (Penacony-region drops)
- Alien Tree Seed, Nourishing Honey, and Past Evils of the Borehole Planet Disaster (Trace materials)
- Raging Heart x65 (Boss material from the Echo of War)
Is Gallagher Worth Using in Patch 4.3?
Absolutely. Gallagher remains one of the best sustain options for Break-oriented teams and is genuinely competitive even when measured against 5-star healers. He is free to pull on standard banners, accessible to all players, and costs almost nothing in terms of resources compared to a 5-star healer.
If you run any team built around Break mechanics — with units like Firefly, Rappa, or Fugue — Gallagher is your first choice as sustain in 4.3. For other team types, he is a safe, reliable fallback whenever you do not have a dedicated 5-star healer available.
