Aventurine Overview – Who Is He?
Aventurine is a limited 5-star Preservation character released in version 2.1. He follows the Path of Preservation and deals Imaginary damage. His primary job is keeping your entire team alive through his Fortified Wager shields. But unlike most sustain units, he also contributes real damage through a powerful 7-hit follow-up attack that scales entirely off his DEF stat.
That DEF scaling is the core design philosophy behind Aventurine. The more DEF you stack, the stronger his shields get and the harder his follow-up hits. His Leverage trace converts DEF into up to 48% CRIT Rate in combat, making him both durable and genuinely threatening as a damage source in the right team.
In 4.3, he is a T1 sustain in Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and Apocalyptic Shadow. He works in virtually every team that needs a shielder and is especially powerful in follow-up attack compositions and Acheron teams.
Aventurine Kit and Skills Explained
Basic ATK – Straight Bet
Deals Imaginary damage to a single enemy equal to 50% of Aventurine’s DEF. Low priority in normal gameplay. His Skill is always the better option for shield upkeep, but the Basic ATK still scales from DEF so it contributes passively to his damage.
Skill – Poker Bluff
This is Aventurine’s main ability. He grants all allies a Fortified Wager shield that absorbs damage. The shield strength scales off his DEF stat. When an ally with a shield gets hit by an enemy, or when any ally performs a follow-up attack, Aventurine gains 1 stack of Blind Bet. These stacks can go up to 10. When he reaches 7 stacks, he fires his follow-up attack automatically. Keep using Skill to keep shields up and keep stacking Blind Bet.
Ultimate – Roulette Bash
Aventurine fires his follow-up attack immediately, regardless of Blind Bet stacks, and applies the Unnerved debuff to all enemies. Unnerved increases CRIT damage dealt to the affected enemies by 15%. His Ultimate also provides a burst of shields to allies. In Acheron teams, the Unnerved debuff counts as a debuff stack, which makes him one of the few sustain units that actively contributes to Acheron’s damage conditions.
Talent – Bingo!
When Aventurine reaches 7 Blind Bet stacks, he launches a 7-hit follow-up attack against random enemies. Each hit deals Imaginary damage equal to a portion of his DEF. The follow-up attack resets Blind Bet back to 0 and starts the cycle again. In follow-up teams with characters like Feixiao or Topaz, Blind Bet stacks fill up extremely fast.
Key Bonus Traces
- Leverage (A2): For every 100 DEF above 1600, Aventurine gains 2% CRIT Rate in combat, up to a maximum of 48% at 4000 DEF. This is the single most important trace to unlock. It is why you stack DEF to 4000.
- Shadowed by Fortune (A4): When Aventurine’s shield is up, he gains a passive damage bonus. Increases the damage contribution from his DEF stacking.
- Mr. Deus Ex Machina (A6): Aventurine gains extra follow-up attack damage and added utility. Unlock this after the first two.
Aventurine Best Light Cones in 4.3
1. Inherently Unjust Destiny (Signature – Best in Slot)
This is Aventurine’s dedicated signature Light Cone and his clear best-in-slot. It gives 40% to 64% DEF at max superimposition and that much CRIT DMG whenever he grants shields to an ally — which is near-permanent uptime. When his follow-up attack hits, there is a 100% base chance to increase the damage taken by that enemy by up to 16%. At S1, it gives a massive DEF + CRIT DMG stack that lines up perfectly with his build. The debuff from the follow-up also provides an additional team-wide damage multiplier.
2. Moment of Victory (Best F2P – Starlight Exchange)
Obtainable with Starlight from the in-game shop. Gives DEF and Effect Hit Rate, with an extra burst of DEF when Aventurine gets hit. Since enemies will constantly attack him to trigger Blind Bet, the bonus DEF is almost always active. A very solid and reliable free option.
3. Destiny’s Threads Forewoven (Herta’s Store)
A 5-star Light Cone from Herta Bond currency. It gives DEF and increases damage dealt for every shielded character on the field. Since Aventurine shields the whole team, the damage bonus is often at full stacks. Easy to obtain and a great upgrade over 4-star options.
4. Trend of the Universal Market (4-Star)
When Aventurine gets hit, there is a chance to apply Burn to the attacker. In Acheron teams, this Burn counts as a debuff stack for Acheron’s Ultimate, giving Aventurine extra synergy. Not a top option for damage, but valuable in specific team comps.
5. This Is Me! (4-Star F2P)
Scales off DEF and deals bonus damage on Ultimate use. A decent transitional option if you have nothing better and are still farming for Moment of Victory or Destiny’s Threads.
Aventurine Best Relics in 4.3
Best Relic Set – Self-Enshrouded Recluse (4-Piece)
Released in version 3.6, this set is now Aventurine’s top pick in most team compositions. The 2-piece bonus gives 16% CRIT DMG. The 4-piece bonus gives another 16% CRIT DMG and when Aventurine grants shields to allies, those shielded allies gain a 15% bonus to the damage they deal. This means Aventurine’s shielding now directly amplifies your DPS characters, making him even more valuable in the support role. Since he shields the entire team, this bonus is always active.
Alternative Relic Set – Knight of Purity Palace (4-Piece)
The defensive-focused option. The 4-piece bonus increases shield strength by 12% and gives all shielded allies 15% bonus CRIT DMG. If your team is struggling to survive and you need stronger shields, this set gives better shield absorption than Self-Enshrouded Recluse. It is slightly behind in raw team damage output but offers more protection in difficult fights.
Alternative Relic Set – The Ashblazing Grand Duke (2-Piece Mixed)
If you want to push Aventurine’s personal follow-up attack damage, running 2-piece Ashblazing Grand Duke combined with 2-piece Knight of Purity Palace or Self-Enshrouded Recluse is an option. However, this is more of a min-max choice. Prioritize DEF and team buffs first.
Best Planar Ornament – Broken Keel
The top ornament pick for Aventurine in most teams. The 2-piece bonus gives 8% Effect RES. When Effect RES reaches 30% or higher, all allies gain 10% CRIT DMG. Since Aventurine’s shields are already keeping allies alive, adding 10% CRIT DMG team-wide is a significant free bonus with no trade-off. Hit 30% Effect RES in sub-stats and this is always active.
Alternative Ornament – Penacony, Land of the Dreams
Useful specifically in Acheron teams. Gives 8% Energy Regeneration Rate and adds bonus damage to all allies who share the same Damage Type as Aventurine’s debuffs. A niche but strong pick in those specific compositions.
Aventurine Stat Priority and Relic Main Stats
Target Stats
- DEF: 4000 or higher. This is the most critical stat. At 4000 DEF, his Leverage trace gives the full 48% CRIT Rate bonus in combat. It also directly increases his shield strength and follow-up damage.
- CRIT Rate: Aim for 60% to 90% in combat. His Leverage trace provides up to 48% of this, so you need less from relics.
- CRIT DMG: 110% to 170%+ as a secondary priority after hitting the DEF threshold.
- SPD: 106 minimum for basic turn cycling. 134+ if you want faster shield reapplication.
- Effect RES: At least 30% to activate Broken Keel’s team CRIT DMG bonus.
Relic Main Stat Priority
- Head: HP (fixed)
- Hands: ATK (fixed)
- Body: DEF% (primary) or CRIT DMG if DEF is already at 4000
- Feet: DEF% or SPD depending on team needs
- Planar Sphere: DEF% (no elemental DMG sphere needed — his follow-up scales DEF not ATK)
- Link Rope: DEF%
Sub-stats to prioritize: DEF%, CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, Effect RES. Avoid ATK% — it does nothing for Aventurine.
Aventurine Best Teams in 4.3
Best Team – Acheron + Aventurine + Jiaoqiu + Silver Wolf
Acheron is one of Aventurine’s best partners. His Ultimate applies the Unnerved debuff which counts toward Acheron’s stack requirements. His follow-up attack from Talent can also apply debuffs depending on his Light Cone. Jiaoqiu applies stacks efficiently. Silver Wolf further debuffs enemies to maximize Acheron’s output. Aventurine handles all sustain so the other three slots can go full offense.
Best Team – Feixiao + Topaz + Robin + Aventurine
Follow-up teams are where Aventurine shines brightest. Feixiao‘s follow-ups constantly trigger Blind Bet, filling Aventurine’s stacks fast. Topaz and Robin further boost follow-up damage for the whole team. Aventurine adds his own follow-up on top of sustain. This team is one of the strongest in 4.3 endgame.
Strong Team – Yunli + Robin + Aventurine + Flex
Yunli is another follow-up DPS who benefits enormously from Aventurine’s shields, since getting hit is actually good for Yunli’s kit. Aventurine’s shields let Yunli absorb hits safely while Robin boosts all follow-up damage. The 4th slot is flexible — add another buffer or sub-DPS based on your roster.
Versatile Team – Any DPS + Sunday + Aventurine + Flex
Aventurine pairs naturally with almost any main DPS. Sunday provides energy and action advance to the DPS. Aventurine handles sustain and adds CRIT DMG to shielded allies via his relics. The last slot can be any support or sub-DPS like Ruan Mei, Tribbie, or Sparkle depending on the DPS.
Other Teammates Worth Considering
- Kafka — DoT teams benefit from Aventurine’s shields. His Unnerved debuff also contributes to DoT team debuff synergies.
- Black Swan — Another debuffer that pairs with Acheron. Aventurine rounds out three-debuffer Acheron comps.
- Jade — Erudition follow-up DPS who benefits from Aventurine’s follow-up proc rate in Pure Fiction.
- Dr. Ratio — His follow-up procs Blind Bet constantly. A strong budget follow-up DPS for Aventurine teams.
- Moze — Another follow-up unit who stacks Blind Bet fast. A good 4-star partner for Aventurine.
Aventurine Eidolons – Are They Worth It?
Aventurine is usable and strong at E0. However, his E1 is one of the best Eidolons in the game for a sustain unit and is worth pulling if you play him regularly.
- E1: All shielded allies permanently gain 20% CRIT DMG. Additionally, after his Ultimate, all allies receive a shield — removing the need to manually Skill for AoE coverage in that turn. This is Aventurine’s single best investment and is considered a must-pull by many players. The 20% CRIT DMG team-wide buff is a significant free offensive upgrade from the sustain slot.
- E2: Increases Aventurine’s own DEF when he takes hits. Extra DEF means stronger shields and more CRIT Rate from Leverage. A nice quality-of-life upgrade.
- E4: After his follow-up attack, Aventurine gains 40% more DEF and his follow-up hits 3 more times. Major personal damage and defensive upgrade.
- E6: Each shielded ally on the field gives Aventurine 50% bonus damage, up to 150%. This turns him into a genuine damage dealer on top of his sustain role. Powerful but extremely expensive to reach.
For most players, E0 or E1 is the right call. E1 alone is transformative enough to justify the pull.
Aventurine Trace Priority
- Skill — More shield strength and more Blind Bet generation. Max this first.
- Talent — Powers up his follow-up attack damage. Second priority.
- Ultimate — Stronger Unnerved debuff and more shields on use. Third.
- Basic ATK — Lowest priority. Level last.
Unlock the Leverage bonus trace (A2) as early as possible. This is the most impactful trace in his kit — it is what transforms DEF stacking into CRIT Rate and makes the whole build work.
Aventurine Rotation Guide – How to Play Him
Aventurine’s rotation is straightforward. Your main job is to keep shields on the team and let the follow-up system run itself.
- Use Skill on Aventurine’s first turn to apply Fortified Wager shields to the whole team.
- Let enemies attack your team and let follow-up attacks fire — both fill Blind Bet stacks automatically.
- When shields are running low, use Skill again to refresh them. Do not let shields drop entirely.
- When energy is full, use Ultimate to fire the follow-up immediately, apply Unnerved to all enemies, and refresh shields at the same time.
- Repeat the cycle. In follow-up teams, Blind Bet will fill very fast and his follow-up will fire frequently with minimal input.
The key rule is simple: keep shields up at all times. Everything else — Blind Bet stacks, follow-ups, and debuffs — happens automatically as a result.
Is Aventurine Worth Pulling in 4.3?
Yes — strongly. Aventurine is the best shielder in Honkai: Star Rail and one of the most universally useful sustain units in the game. Unlike healers, his shields prevent all damage rather than recovering it after the fact. His follow-up attack and Unnerved debuff mean he contributes offensively too, which no other Preservation unit does as consistently.
He fits into almost any team that needs sustain. Whether you’re running Acheron, Feixiao, Phainon, or Jingliu, Aventurine slots in cleanly and makes the team better. If you are missing a reliable shielder on your account, he is one of the highest-value pulls you can make.

Final Thoughts
Aventurine is one of the safest and most impactful investments in HSR. Build him to 4000 DEF, run Self-Enshrouded Recluse relics with Broken Keel ornament, and pair him with follow-up or debuff-heavy teams for best results. His signature Light Cone is excellent but Moment of Victory from the Starlight shop handles the job well too. Get E1 if you can — it is one of the best Eidolon upgrades in the game. Once he is built, he will slot into your roster for years.
