Who Is Jiaoqiu in Honkai Star Rail?

Jiaoqiu is a 5-star character following the Path of Nihility with the Fire element. He is a foxian healer born into a prestigious Alchemy Commission family on the Xianzhou Yaoqing. He once withdrew from medicine after a personal heartbreak, but returned to the field to treat General Feixiao. A master of alchemical prescriptions and spicy medicinal formulas, he approaches every situation — battlefield included — with a composed, calculating smile.

On the battlefield, Jiaoqiu is a specialist debuffer. His core mechanic is Ashen Roast, a stacking debuff he applies to enemies that increases the damage they take from all sources. At 5 stacks, the enemy is taking 35% more damage from everything. His Ultimate also deploys a Zone that increases enemies’ Ultimate DMG received and automatically reapplies Ashen Roast whenever they take action — generating stacks passively on the enemy’s own turns. This makes him extraordinarily valuable in teams like Acheron‘s, where consistent debuff application directly fuels her Slashed Dream counter and empowers her devastating Ultimates.

Jiaoqiu Skills and Abilities

Basic ATK – Heart Afire

Deals Fire DMG to a single target. Rarely used intentionally. It does have a chance to apply Ashen Roast from his Talent proc, so it contributes to stack building even as a fallback action when Skill Points run low.

Skill – Scorch Onslaught

Deals Fire Blast DMG to a primary target and adjacent enemies, with a base chance to inflict 1 stack of Ashen Roast on the main target. This is your primary Skill Point spender and stack-building tool between Ultimates. The Blast range is useful in AoE content for spreading stacks via Talent procs.

Ultimate – Pyrograph Arcanum

The centrepiece of his kit. It does three things at once. First, it equalises all enemies’ Ashen Roast stacks to the highest value currently on the field — instantly spreading your progress to every enemy. Second, it deals Fire AoE DMG. Third, it activates a Zone that lasts 2 turns, causing enemies to receive increased Ultimate DMG and inflicting 1 Ashen Roast stack automatically whenever any enemy takes an action, up to a total of 7 procs per Zone. Costs 100 Energy — relatively low, supporting frequent Ultimate use with good SPD.

Talent – Quartet Finesse, Octave Finery

Whenever Jiaoqiu hits an enemy with any attack, there is a base chance to inflict 1 additional Ashen Roast stack on top of the Skill’s application. Each stack of Ashen Roast increases the enemy’s DMG Received. At 1 stack: +10% DMG Received. Each additional stack adds more, scaling up to a maximum of 5 stacks total. Enemies afflicted with Ashen Roast are also treated as Burned, taking Fire DoT at the start of each turn — this is particularly relevant for DoT teams.

Technique – Fiery Queller

Creates a field before combat that prevents enemies from initiating attacks. When battle begins, deals Fire AoE DMG and has a base chance to apply 1 Ashen Roast stack. Use it to get a free stack before your first action in every fight.

Major Traces

Pyre Cleanse (A2): When battle starts, immediately regenerates 15 Energy. This gives Jiaoqiu a head start on his first Ultimate — critical since he needs to get the Zone active early in the rotation
Hearth Kindle (A4): For every 15% of Effect Hit Rate that exceeds 80%, Jiaoqiu’s ATK increases by 60%, up to a maximum of 240%. This scales cleanly with his signature Light Cone. At 140% EHR, he gains a significant ATK bonus that boosts both his direct damage and the scaling of his DoT on Ashen Roast targets
Seared Scent (A6): While the Zone is active, any enemy that enters combat is immediately inflicted with Ashen Roast stacks equal to the highest stack count currently on the battlefield, with a minimum of 1 stack. This is invaluable in content with multiple waves — new enemies arrive pre-debuffed with no additional effort required

Jiaoqiu Best Light Cones (4.3)

1. Those Many Springs (Best in Slot – Signature)

Jiaoqiu’s signature Light Cone and by far his best option. It provides 60% Effect Hit Rate — solving his EHR stat requirements almost by itself — and gives him a 60% chance to inflict a debuff called Unarmored on enemies when attacking, which increases their damage received by 10% (an additional 14% in DoT states). This third debuff from the cone directly enables Acheron‘s Slashed Dream passive, which requires 2 debuffs on enemies to generate stacks during her own turn. Prydwen recommends pulling this cone before investing in Eidolons.

2. Reforged Remembrance (Excellent Alternative)

Black Swan‘s signature Light Cone is a very strong second choice. It provides 40% Effect Hit Rate and stacks ATK% bonuses, which contributes to both his direct damage and the Hearth Kindle ATK scaling. A natural pick for players who pulled Black Swan and have this cone available.

3. Eyes of the Prey (4-Star Option)

Provides Effect Hit Rate and increases Nihility Ultimate DMG. A clean F2P-accessible pick. The EHR from this cone makes meeting the 140% threshold more manageable for players without the signature.

4. Good Night and Sleep Well (4-Star Budget Pick)

Increases DMG dealt for each debuff on the target, up to 3 debuffs. Since Jiaoqiu naturally stacks multiple debuffs — Ashen Roast, Burned status, and potentially the Zone’s Ultimate vulnerability — this activates reliably. A solid free-to-play option that does not require any additional investment.

5. Fermata (4-Star F2P)

Increases Break Effect and boosts DMG dealt to Shocked or Burned enemies. Jiaoqiu applies Burned via Ashen Roast, so the conditional bonus activates on most attacks. A usable budget option, though the others above are generally better.

Jiaoqiu Best Relic Sets (4.3)

For Acheron Teams: Messenger Traversing Hackerspace (2) + Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters (2)

The recommended relic combination for Jiaoqiu in Acheron-based teams. The 2-piece Messenger gives +6% SPD, helping him act before the DPS character and apply debuffs first. The 2-piece Pioneer Diver gives +12% DMG against enemies afflicted with debuffs, which Ashen Roast qualifies for. Together, this combination offers a clean blend of SPD and damage amplification with no conditional requirements that are hard to meet.

For DoT Teams: Prisoner in Deep Confinement (4-Piece)

The go-to set for DoT team Jiaoqiu. The 2-piece gives +12% ATK. The 4-piece bonus causes the wearer’s attacks to ignore 6% of the enemy’s DEF for each type of DoT currently on the target, stacking up to 3 types for a total of 18% DEF ignore. Since Jiaoqiu applies Burned via Ashen Roast and DoT teams typically layer multiple damage-over-time effects, this 4-piece activates consistently and provides a meaningful damage multiplier.

Alternative 2+2 Mix: Pioneer Diver (2) + Messenger (2)

Interchangeable with the Acheron setup depending on your specific piece quality. If you have better-statted pieces across two different sets rather than a clean 4-piece, mixing 2+2 always remains viable for Jiaoqiu since his damage output is secondary to his debuff application.

Jiaoqiu Best Planar Ornaments (4.3)

Sprightly Vonwacq (Best for Acheron Teams)

The top Planar Ornament for Jiaoqiu in most team contexts. It provides +5% Energy Regeneration Rate and, when Jiaoqiu’s SPD is 120 or higher at battle start, his action is advanced forward by 40%. This effectively guarantees he acts first in the rotation, getting his Zone and Ashen Roast stacks active before Acheron or any other DPS takes their turn. The action advance is the most valuable part of this ornament — never skip it.

Pan-Cosmic Commercial Enterprise (Best for DoT Teams)

The preferred Planar Ornament in DoT-focused teams. It gives +10% Effect Hit Rate and converts up to 25% of the wearer’s current EHR into ATK. Since Jiaoqiu runs high EHR, this provides a meaningful ATK boost that scales his Ashen Roast DoT, which Kafka can then re-trigger for massive damage. An excellent set for players primarily using Jiaoqiu in Kafka and Black Swan compositions.

Izumo Gensei and Takama Divine Realm (Alternative)

Provides CRIT Rate and an additional CRIT Rate boost when two or more Nihility characters are in the same team. Since Jiaoqiu is almost always paired with other Nihility characters (especially in Acheron teams), the conditional is easy to meet. Use this if you want Jiaoqiu to contribute more direct damage alongside his debuffing role.

The golden rule for Jiaoqiu is 140% Effect Hit Rate. This is the breakpoint for his A4 Trace (Hearth Kindle) to cap out its ATK conversion bonus, and it also ensures his Ashen Roast applications from Talent procs land consistently on all enemies. Without the signature Light Cone, reaching 140% EHR requires careful substat investment in your relic pieces. With it, you are nearly there from the Light Cone alone.

On SPD: Jiaoqiu’s base SPD is only 98, which is below average for a support. You need SPD boots and ideally SPD substats or the Sprightly Vonwacq action advance to ensure he acts before the DPS characters who need his debuffs active first.

Jiaoqiu Best Team Compositions (4.3)

Best Team: Acheron, Jiaoqiu, Cipher, Aventurine/Hysilens

The strongest team for Jiaoqiu in 4.3. Acheron needs two Nihility characters in the team to unlock her full A4 passive damage potential, and Jiaoqiu is her absolute best Nihility support. His Zone generates Slashed Dream stacks passively through enemy actions, filling Acheron’s counter at a rate no other support can match. Cipher fills the second Nihility slot with her own debuffs and universal DMG Taken amplification. Aventurine or Hysilens provides sustain. This composition consistently clears Memory of Chaos in top-tier cycle counts.

Strong Alternative: Acheron, Jiaoqiu, Black Swan, Aventurine

Black Swan in the second Nihility slot is a strong alternative, especially for DoT-flavoured Acheron builds. Black Swan’s Arcana stacks and DEF-shredding debuff work alongside Jiaoqiu’s Ashen Roast to layer multiple vulnerability effects on enemies simultaneously. A powerful combination that also works well in Pure Fiction due to the AoE pressure.

Classic Acheron Team: Acheron, Jiaoqiu, Pela, Aventurine/Gallagher

An accessible version of the Acheron team that replaces one of the premium Nihility units with Pela. Pela’s free DEF shred and debuff application satisfies Acheron’s Nihility requirement and keeps stacks generating. Gallagher can sustain at lower investment than Aventurine. A very functional team for players who do not have Cipher or Black Swan.

DoT Team: Kafka, Black Swan, Jiaoqiu, Gallagher/Huohuo

Jiaoqiu slots naturally into Kafka and Black Swan DoT teams as an additional damage amplifier. His Ashen Roast provides both a DoT source (Burned status) and a vulnerability debuff that Kafka can re-trigger for massive burst. At E2, Jiaoqiu’s Ashen Roast DoT multiplier triples, making him a genuine damage contributor in this context rather than just a passive debuffer.

Other DPS Partners Worth Knowing

Feixiao – The Ultimate DMG vulnerability from Jiaoqiu’s Zone significantly boosts Feixiao’s Ultimate output

Jiaoqiu Rotation Guide

Jiaoqiu’s rotation is simple and repeatable once you understand the priority order:

Use the Technique before entering combat to apply a free Ashen Roast stack from the start
Jiaoqiu should act before the DPS on the first turn. Ensure his SPD is tuned correctly and that Sprightly Vonwacq’s action advance is active (SPD 120+)
Use the Ultimate as early as possible to get the Zone active — this starts passive Ashen Roast generation on enemy actions and spreads existing stacks to all enemies simultaneously
Use the Skill every other turn to build stacks and deal direct damage to your target. Spend Skill Points cleanly — Jiaoqiu uses them at a moderate rate
Refresh the Ultimate every 2 turns (the Zone’s duration). With Sprightly Vonwacq’s Energy Regen and the A2 Trace’s 15 Energy on battle start, the rotation flows smoothly
In Acheron teams: time Jiaoqiu’s Ultimate just before Acheron’s to maximise the Slashed Dream stacks available for her cast

Jiaoqiu is one of the easiest supports to pilot in the game. His debuffs apply passively through the Zone, his Ashen Roast spreads automatically with his Ultimate, and his A6 Trace handles new wave debuffing entirely on its own.

Jiaoqiu Eidolons – Are They Worth It?

E1 – Pentapathic Transference

All allies deal 40% increased DMG to enemies with Ashen Roast. Additionally, when Talent procs apply Ashen Roast, the stack count is increased by 1. The 40% DMG bonus is a universal amplifier for your entire team — it applies to all damage types and all characters, not just the DPS. This is an enormous team-wide buff and is Jiaoqiu’s strongest Eidolon by a significant margin. After his signature Light Cone, E1 is the next most impactful investment.

E2 – From Savor Comes Suffer

The Fire DoT multiplier from Ashen Roast increases by 300% when an enemy is afflicted with it. This makes the Burned DoT from Ashen Roast deal roughly 3–4 times more damage than at E0. Primarily a DoT-team Eidolon — Kafka can trigger this boosted DoT for devastating burst. Less impactful in Acheron teams where the DoT is rarely the primary damage source.

E4 – Leisure In, Luster Out

While the Zone exists, reduces all enemies’ ATK by 15%. A defensive bonus that reduces the damage Jiaoqiu’s team takes throughout the Zone’s uptime. Good quality-of-life for survivability in harder content, though not as impactful as E1 or E2.

E6 – Nonamorphic Pyrobind

When an enemy is defeated, their Ashen Roast stacks transfer to the enemy with the fewest stacks. The Ashen Roast cap increases to 9 stacks, and each stack now also reduces the target’s All-Type RES by 3% (up to 27% at 9 stacks). The RES reduction is a powerful offensive bonus for full multi-wave content, and the stack transfer mechanic means ramp-up on new enemies is minimised. An exceptional E6 for a dedicated Jiaoqiu player.

Recommended stopping point: Signature Light Cone first, then E1. E0 with his signature is already excellent. E1 is the most impactful Eidolon — the 40% team DMG bonus is one of the strongest team-wide buffs in the game. E2 is worth considering specifically for DoT team players. Beyond E2, returns diminish unless you are deeply invested in the character.

Jiaoqiu Trace Priority

Level up Jiaoqiu’s Traces in this order:

Ultimate – Increases Ultimate DMG vulnerability and raises the chance of Ashen Roast application from the Zone. Higher Ultimate level means more reliable stack generation and stronger buffs each rotation
Talent – Increases both the DMG Received bonus per Ashen Roast stack and the base application chance on attacks
Skill – Higher damage and better Ashen Roast chance on Skill hits
Basic ATK – Lowest priority; level last

Always unlock all three Major Traces early. The A2 Energy start, A4 ATK conversion, and A6 auto-debuffing on new enemies are all integral to how he functions in high-level play.

Is Jiaoqiu Worth Using in Patch 4.3?

Yes — Jiaoqiu is one of the best supports in the entire game in 4.3, and he is specifically irreplaceable for Acheron teams. No other Nihility character generates Slashed Dream stacks as efficiently as Jiaoqiu does through passive Zone procs on enemy turns. His debuff uptime is near-perfect, his rotation is easy to execute, and his scalability through Light Cone and E1 investment is excellent.

Outside of Acheron, he is a very solid universal debuffer. Any DPS character who deals significant damage through their Ultimate benefits from his Zone’s Ultimate DMG vulnerability. His Ashen Roast vulnerability stack works for all damage types without exception. He is particularly effective with Feixiao, Mydei, and Dr. Ratio as well as the obvious Acheron pairing.
