    TL;DR

    • Tracking the Treasure is the final quest in the Bell of Return questline — you must complete Victory Wine first to unlock it.
    • The quest has two objectives: find the Bell Fragment and defeat the Greataxe Berserker.
    • Both objectives are at the same location — the Supreme Hall POI in the northwest corner of Hallowgrove.
    • The Bell Fragment is on the steps of the Supreme Hall. Kill the guard grunt first, then interact with the marker on the ground.
    • The Greataxe Berserker patrols just below the Supreme Hall steps — you don’t need to hunt across the map.
    • Do NOT confuse the regular Greataxe Berserker with the Elite Greataxe Berserker — killing the wrong one gives zero quest progress.
    • Heal to full HP before engaging the boss — the fight starts the moment you drop down.
    • Let the boss attack first, dodge his aerial thrust, then punish and work toward the stun window.
    • In solo play, self-reviving during the fight resets the boss to full health — do not go down.
    • Completing the quest rewards camp upgrade materials, rare accessories, and unlocks the next quest: The Silent Statue.

Mistfall Hunter Tracking the Treasure quest is the final step of the Bell of Return questline, and it sends you into Hallowgrove for two objectives that trip up a lot of players — a Bell Fragment that isn’t clearly marked, and a mini-boss fight against the Greataxe Berserker that many people fail because they engage the wrong enemy entirely. This guide covers exactly where to go, how to find both objectives, how to beat the Greataxe Berserker without dying, and what to do if your quest progress isn’t tracking correctly.

If you’re still getting to grips with running expeditions in Hallowgrove, our best tips and tricks guide covers the fundamentals. And before any run in a contested area like the Supreme Hall, make sure you know how to extract in Mistfall Hunter — boss areas attract other players, and getting out safely after the fight is its own challenge.

    • Quick Summary — Tracking the Treasure Quest

What Is the Tracking the Treasure Quest in Mistfall Hunter

Tracking the Treasure is the third and final quest in the Bell of Return questline. The Bell of Return is a core early-game quest chain tied to the main story. In ancient Northern legends within the game’s lore, the Bell of Return guides lost souls back to their loved ones — and recovering its missing fragments is a key part of progressing the narrative at Windrest camp.

The Bell of Return questline runs in a fixed order:

    1. Bell of Return — Missing Ingredients (gather brewing ingredients for Sigrid the Brewmaster)
    2. Bell of Return — Victory Wine (complete the brew and unlock the Victory Wine system)
    3. Bell of Return — Tracking the Treasure (find the Bell Fragment and defeat the Greataxe Berserker)

You cannot access Tracking the Treasure until the Victory Wine quest is completed. If the quest isn’t appearing for you, check whether you’ve finished the two prerequisites first.

The Tracking the Treasure quest has two objectives that can be completed in either order since they share the same location:

    • Search the designated location and recover the Bell Fragment
    • Defeat the Greataxe Berserker

How to Start Tracking the Treasure

Once the quest is active, queue for an extraction run in Hallowgrove. This is a standard expedition — you go in with your chosen loadout, complete the objectives, and extract when done. As soon as you load in, open your map and look for the exclamation mark (!) quest marker labelled “Tracking the Treasure.” Follow that marker — it will guide you to the objective area near the Supreme Hall.

A note on the map: the quest marker is what matters, not the red boss icons that appear on the map for other encounters. Some players waste time chasing a red Berserker icon elsewhere on the map thinking it’s their target. It’s not. Follow the exclamation quest marker specifically labelled Tracking the Treasure.

Bell Fragment Location in Mistfall Hunter

    bell fragment location mistfall hunter

The Bell Fragment is located at the Supreme Hall POI in the northwest corner of Hallowgrove. The Supreme Hall is a large building with wide steps — it’s an unmistakeable landmark once you’re in the area. Head there and climb the steps.

At the top of the steps, you’ll find a regular grunt enemy standing guard over the objective marker. This is not the Greataxe Berserker — it’s just a standard enemy. Defeat it quickly, then interact with the marker on the ground to pick up the Bell Fragment. That clears the first objective.

One important note: the Bell Fragment’s exact ground position can shift slightly between runs since it’s tied to the quest marker rather than a completely fixed spawn. If the spot described isn’t matching yours exactly, just trust the in-map Tracking the Treasure exclamation marker — it will show you precisely where the fragment is in your current run.

Greataxe Berserker Location in Mistfall Hunter

The Greataxe Berserker for the Tracking the Treasure quest patrols just below the Supreme Hall steps — directly beneath where you picked up the Bell Fragment. You do not need to explore the map to find it. Once you’ve grabbed the fragment, look below the steps and you’ll see the Greataxe Berserker roaming the area.

The Greataxe Berserker is identifiable by its oversized two-handed greataxe. It’s a mini-boss, not a standard enemy, so it’s visually distinct from the regular grunts in the area. It may not have a prominent red boss icon on your map the way the Elite version does — identify it by its weapon and its patrol path directly below the Supreme Hall landing.

Critical Warning — Regular vs Elite Greataxe Berserker

This is the single biggest source of confusion and failed quest progress in the entire Bell of Return questline. Hallowgrove contains two different Greataxe Berserker enemies, and they are tied to two completely separate quests:

    • Regular Greataxe Berserker — the mini-boss patrolling below the Supreme Hall steps. This is the one required for Tracking the Treasure. It may not show a red boss icon on the map.
    • Elite Greataxe Berserker — a much stronger version marked with a golden greataxe and red boss icon on the map. This one is required for the For Whom the Bell Tolls quest, which comes later in the story. It has a barrier arena and is significantly harder.

Killing the Elite Greataxe Berserker will not complete the Tracking the Treasure objective. And killing the regular Greataxe Berserker will not progress For Whom the Bell Tolls. Before you engage any Berserker enemy, confirm which quest is active and which version you’re fighting. The regular one has no red boss icon and patrols freely below the Supreme Hall steps. The Elite one has a clear red marker on the map and spawns inside a barrier arena.

If you’ve already killed what you thought was the correct enemy and your quest tracker hasn’t updated, this is almost certainly the reason — you fought the wrong version.

How to Beat the Greataxe Berserker in Mistfall Hunter

The Greataxe Berserker hits harder than anything you’ve faced in Hallowgrove up to this point. It’s a mini-boss encounter, not a standard fight. Going in without preparation is how players die and lose their run inventory right before extracting with quest completion loot. Here’s the correct approach.

Beat the Greataxe Berserker in Mistfall Hunter

Heal to Full HP Before You Drop Down

The fight begins the moment you jump down from the Supreme Hall steps into the Greataxe Berserker’s patrol area. Do not engage at partial health. Use your Healing Elixirs and Spirithorn to top off completely before you close the distance. A bad start against a hard-hitting mini-boss is very difficult to recover from, especially solo.

Don’t Attack First — Bait the Aerial Thrust

When you approach the Greataxe Berserker, hold your attack and wait for the boss to commit first. Its signature opener is an unblockable aerial thrust — it leaps into the air and comes down with a powerful axe strike. This attack cannot be blocked, only dodged. Wait for it, dodge through or to the side, and then immediately start attacking while the boss is recovering from the swing.

Do not try to pre-empt this attack or rush in for early damage. Players who open aggressively tend to eat the aerial thrust because it interrupts their attack animation. The correct rhythm is bait, dodge, punish — not attack first.

    Watch for Follow-Up Swings

After the aerial thrust, the Greataxe Berserker may chain into follow-up swings with wide axe arcs. Don’t overcommit during the punish window. Land two or three hits after the aerial thrust, then back off or reposition to watch for the next follow-up. The boss repeats a consistent rotation of two or three abilities including the aerial thrust and charged axe swings with a large hit radius. Learn the pattern after the first cycle and it becomes manageable.

One key movement tip: sidestep the swings rather than backing away. The Greataxe Berserker has long reach and lunges to close distance. Backing straight off is not safe — it gives the boss room to close the gap and can also prompt it to use ground spike attacks against ranged players. Lateral movement keeps you close enough to punish while staying out of the direct swing path.

Work Toward the Stun and Unload

Keep consistent pressure on the Greataxe Berserker through the dodge-punish cycle. After taking enough damage, the boss enters a stunned state. This is your primary damage window. While the boss is stunned, attack non-stop — mix regular attacks with your abilities to maximise damage output before it recovers. The stun window is limited, so don’t waste it repositioning.

After the stun breaks, the Greataxe Berserker returns to its normal attack rotation. Restart the cycle — bait the aerial thrust, dodge, punish, build toward the next stun — until the fight is over.

    Stamina Management Is Critical

Never exhaust your stamina bar completely during this fight. A fully depleted stamina bar leaves you unable to dodge or perform heavy attacks for a recovery period — during which the Greataxe Berserker can freely hit you. Always keep enough stamina for at least one emergency dodge. Attack conservatively if your stamina is getting low and wait for it to partially recover before re-engaging.

    Don’t Heal While Being Chased

Healing Elixirs take a moment to activate. If you try to drink one while the Greataxe Berserker is actively moving toward you, you’ll likely eat an axe swing mid-animation. Create space or wait for a pause after landing damage before healing. Taking a hit while trying to heal is one of the most common causes of unexpected deaths against this boss.

The Critical Solo Rule — Do Not Get Knocked Down

In solo play, Mistfall Hunter gives you a single self-revive. However, using the self-revive during the Greataxe Berserker fight is treated by the game as leaving the arena, which resets the boss to full health. This means if you go down and revive, you’ve just undone all your progress and have to start the fight over at full boss HP.

Play conservatively rather than aggressively. The fight takes longer when you’re careful, but a slow win is far better than dying and having to restart. Prioritise staying alive over dealing damage. In a trio, one player can briefly exit the encounter area without resetting the boss, but solo players have no such safety net.

Class-Specific Tips for the Greataxe Berserker Fight

    • Mercenary — Use your Sword and Shield’s block to absorb regular swings, then counter after successful defences. Don’t try to block the aerial thrust — it’s unblockable.
    • Withered Knight — The Withered Knight’s parry tools and Wither cycle suit this fight well. Apply Wither, detonate during the stun window for max burst. Thorn Guide is useful for closing gaps after dodging.
    • Blackarrow — Keep your Blackarrow mobile and attack between the Berserker’s swing animations. Reposition laterally, not backward, to avoid triggering ground spike attacks.
    • Shadowstrix — The Shadowstrix is fast enough to stay mobile throughout the fight. Use quick attacks rather than heavy combos, and use stealth tools to reset when pressure gets too high.
    • Sorcerer — Avoid fully charged spells — they’re slow and leave you exposed. The Sorcerer performs better here with instant-cast abilities. Melee-range attacks often deal more consistent damage than trying to maintain range against this boss.
    • Seer — The Seer can use healing abilities for added safety during solo attempts. Blasphemer path offers more damage output if you need to end the fight faster.

If you’re unsure which class gives you the best shot at this fight solo, our guide on the best solo class in Mistfall Hunter breaks down every option clearly.

What to Do After the Fight

Once the Greataxe Berserker is dead, loot the body immediately. The boss drops valuable camp upgrade materials and rare accessories — don’t skip the loot. After clearing the body, your quest tracker should update with “Task Completed: Tracking the Treasure” confirming both objectives are done.

From here, head straight toward extraction. Do not push for additional loot in the Supreme Hall area. The Supreme Hall is one of the most contested locations in Hallowgrove — other players regularly patrol this area looking for easy targets on players who are post-boss with low HP and burning cooldowns. A Returner Woodling extraction point is usually accessible in this corner of the map. Find one and get out cleanly.

Back at camp, speak with Dew to turn in the quest. Completing Tracking the Treasure finishes the Bell of Return questline and unlocks the next main quest: The Silent Statue, which sends you to upgrade the Goddess Statue and continues the main story.

    Common Quest Issues and Bugs

Quest Progress Not Updating After Killing the Berserker

The most common reason: you killed the Elite Greataxe Berserker instead of the regular one. Go back into Hallowgrove, follow the Tracking the Treasure exclamation marker specifically, and find the regular version patrolling below the Supreme Hall steps — not the red-icon elite boss elsewhere on the map.

    Can’t Find the Bell Fragment

The Bell Fragment’s precise ground position can shift slightly between runs. If it’s not exactly where this guide describes, open your map and follow the quest exclamation marker. The marker always points to the correct location in your current run. Don’t rely solely on static location descriptions if the marker is showing somewhere slightly different.

    Quest Not Appearing at All

Tracking the Treasure only unlocks after completing both Missing Ingredients and Victory Wine first. Check your quest log and confirm the Victory Wine quest is done. If it’s still locked after completing both predecessors, try relogging or restarting the game client.

    Party Credit Issues

There are community-reported cases where squad members don’t all receive quest credit for the Greataxe Berserker kill even when fighting the correct enemy together. This is an unresolved known issue. If your credit didn’t register while your teammates’ did, confirm the quest name matches and try re-entering Hallowgrove to attempt the kill again independently.
