How to Get & Use Verdant Grounds Key in Mistfall Hunter

Verdant Grounds Key in Mistfall Hunter

    TL;DR

    • The Verdant Grounds Key is an Epic-rarity key that unlocks a locked loot room in Hallowgrove.
    • The fastest guaranteed method: buy it from the Auction House by talking to Pip at camp.
    • In the Auction House go to Items → Keys tab, filter by purple (Epic) rarity, purchase with Gyldenblood.
    • The key also drops from mini-bosses (red map icons), guarded high-value chests, and wall effigies at the Thatch Hut and Refugee Camp.
    • Store the key in Pip’s Keychain before entering a run — this protects it if you die before reaching the loot room.
    • The Verdant Grounds POI is in the central-south section of the Hallowgrove map.
    • The loot room is just south of the main building — descend the rocky slope and use the key on the door.
    • Also accessible via the lower doors at Pioneer Gates — follow the path to reach the portal.
    • Inside: multiple chests and containers spawning Excellent to Epic quality loot — RNG-based, changes every run.
    • After looting, immediately move the best items into Pip’s Pouch, then head straight to extraction.

The Verdant Grounds Key in Mistfall Hunter is one of the most profitable items you can bring into a Hallowgrove extraction run. It unlocks a sealed loot room that regular players walk past every run without ever getting inside — and the gear and resources waiting in there can make the difference between a mediocre run and one of your best. This guide covers every way to get the Verdant Grounds Key, exactly where the loot room is located, and how to open it and extract safely without losing what you just found.

Before you plan your Verdant Grounds run, make sure you know how to extract in Mistfall Hunter — the loot room area attracts other players and getting out clean after opening it requires preparation. And if you want to understand how the Verdant Grounds Key fits into the broader locked chest system in Hallowgrove, our Watchtower Key chest guide covers another major locked POI worth running on the same sweep.

What Is the Verdant Grounds Key in Mistfall Hunter

The Verdant Grounds Key is an Epic-rarity (purple) key that unlocks a sealed loot room at the Verdant Grounds POI in Hallowgrove. It is a single-use item — once you use it to open the door, the key is consumed and the room is accessible for that run. The room is not a fixed boss arena or a quest objective. It’s a hidden vault with multiple chests and containers that spawn Excellent to Epic quality loot on a random table that changes every run.

Like all key-based locked rooms in Mistfall Hunter, the contents are RNG-based. You won’t always walk out with Legendary gear. But the floor is consistently high, and even average runs through the Verdant Grounds loot room tend to pay back the cost of the key plus a profit in extracted materials. The variance is what keeps it exciting — and what makes having reliable key sources important.

How to Get the Verdant Grounds Key in Mistfall Hunter

There are four ways to get the Verdant Grounds Key. The first is the only guaranteed method. The others are RNG-based but worth pursuing when you’re already running Hallowgrove for other objectives.

Method 1 — Auction House via Pip (Best Method)

    auction house mistfall hunter
    auction house mistfall hunter

The Auction House is the only way to get the Verdant Grounds Key on demand. Head to camp and speak with Pip to open the Auction House interface. Inside, navigate to Items → Keys tab and filter by purple (Epic) rarity. The Verdant Grounds Key will appear in the listings when other players have it for sale. Purchase it with Gyldenblood.

The market price fluctuates based on supply and demand — typical pricing sits around 500–600 Gyldenblood based on launch-week market reports, though this can shift. The Auction House is run by players, so check the listing before heading out. If the key isn’t currently listed, check back in a later session or after a busy run period when more players are selling surplus keys.

This method has zero RNG. You pay the Gyldenblood price and the key is yours. For players who want to run the Verdant Grounds loot room consistently, the Auction House is the only approach that gives you full control over when you go.

Method 2 — Mini-Boss Kills (High Drop Chance)

    mini bosses mistfall hunter
    mini bosses mistfall hunter

Mini-bosses are the best in-run source of Epic-rarity keys including the Verdant Grounds Key. These enemies appear on your map during a run as red icons. Hover over or highlight a red icon to see which mini-boss has spawned in your current instance. Killing a mini-boss has a high chance of dropping an Epic key — though the specific key type is random, so you may get a different locked room’s key rather than the Verdant Grounds one.

Mini-boss fights are manageable with a full squad and significantly harder solo. If you’re planning to farm keys through this method, bring a strong build. Our best solo class guide covers which classes handle mini-boss encounters most reliably when running without teammates.

Method 3 — Guarded Loot in High-Value Zones

loot room keys spawn locations mistfall hunter

High-value loot zones are marked in gold on the Hallowgrove map, making them easy to identify. Chests and containers in these areas can drop Epic keys, including the Verdant Grounds Key. These zones are protected by enemies with a purple symbol above their heads — these enemies also have a smaller independent chance to drop Epic keys when defeated, separate from the chest loot.

If you’re routing through Hallowgrove and passing a gold-marked zone anyway, always clear it and check the containers. Key drops from these areas are not guaranteed but happen often enough to make them a consistent secondary source.

Method 4 — Wall Effigies at Thatch Hut and Refugee Camp

Less obvious but worth knowing: effigies — lifeless figures pinned to walls or scattered on the ground — can contain Epic keys. The Thatch Hut and Refugee Camp are specifically noted as reliable effigy farming spots. Community players have consistently found rare and epic keys here at a higher rate than regular containers. Check every effigy you see in these locations. They’re quick to loot and the key can show up without any combat required.

The crucified effigies in the Supreme Hall boss area — near the Great Berserker — are also strong sources for Epic keys generally, as covered in our Watchtower Key guide. If you’re routing through that area for the Tracking the Treasure quest, check those effigies before heading south toward Verdant Grounds.

Store the Key in Pip’s Keychain Before You Deploy

This step matters more than most players realise. Once you have a Verdant Grounds Key, place it in Pip’s Keychain before entering any run. The Keychain is a special protected inventory slot specifically designed for keys. If you die during a run without the key in the Keychain, you lose the key entirely along with the rest of your unprotected inventory.

An Epic key costs real Gyldenblood either from a direct purchase or significant combat risk. Losing it to a PvP ambush on the way to the loot room because you forgot to protect it is one of the most frustrating outcomes in the game. Keychain it first — always. If your Keychain needs a repair, that’s what the Secret Shop at Cazarro’s is for — it sells Keychain Repair Kits once his shop reaches Level 4.

Verdant Grounds Key Location — Where to Use It

    Verdant Grounds Key Location
    Verdant Grounds Key Location

The Verdant Grounds POI sits in the central-south section of the Hallowgrove map. It’s not at the edge of the map like some other key locations, which means it’s more accessible from multiple spawn points but also more trafficked by other players who know its value.

There are two confirmed approaches to the loot room:

Approach 1 — South of the Main Building (Primary Route)

Head to the Verdant Grounds POI and locate the main building at the landmark. From there, go south of the main building and descend the rocky slope. The loot room door is at the bottom. Approach carefully — the slope and surrounding area can conceal other players waiting for someone to open the room. Use the key on the door and enter.

Approach 2 — Via Pioneer Gates Lower Path

A second confirmed route: find the Pioneer Gates on the Hallowgrove map and enter through the lower doors. Follow the path through and you will arrive at a portal where the Verdant Grounds Key can be used. This route is slightly less obvious, which can make it safer if the direct southern approach is being watched by other players. Use whichever approach fits your position on the map when you arrive.

What to Do Before You Open the Door

Do not walk straight up to the door and immediately use the key. Take a moment first:

    • Check the surrounding area for other players. The Verdant Grounds POI is well-known. Players patrol here looking for Gyldhunters about to open locked rooms. Listen for footsteps, watch for movement in the cover around the building, and scan from elevated ground if possible.
    • Clear nearby PvE enemies first. Getting caught in a mob fight while another player arrives is how runs end badly. Clear the area before committing to the door.
    • Make sure your HP is full. Use your Healing Elixirs and Spirithorn to top off before entering. If there’s anything waiting inside — or if another player rushes in after you — you want to be at full strength.
    • Have your extraction route planned. Know which Returner Woodling extraction point you’re heading to after you clear the room. The moment you loot the last container, your next thought should be where you’re running.

What’s Inside the Verdant Grounds Loot Room

Inside the loot room you’ll find multiple chests and lootable containers. The loot table is randomised and resets every run, so the specific items you find will vary. The quality tier spans Excellent up to Epic, and community reports consistently describe the room as one of the better locked loot rooms in Hallowgrove in terms of loot floor — even an average roll tends to be profitable.

    Items that can appear include:

    • Rare crafting resources — materials used for camp upgrades and Workshop crafting
    • Excellent and Epic quality gear — weapons, armour pieces, and accessories at higher rarity tiers
    • Camp upgrade supplies — construction materials that save you farming time
    • Unidentified Items — these need to be identified back at camp and can conceal higher-rarity finds than they initially appear

The room contents change every time you run it. Consistent runs over multiple sessions give you the best overall return from the key investment — some runs will be exceptional, others average. Don’t write off the room after one disappointing open.

How to Extract Safely After Looting the Verdant Grounds Room

Opening the loot room is the halfway point. Getting out with the loot is the part that decides whether the run was worth it.

Use Pip’s Pouch Immediately After Looting

The moment you’ve cleared the room’s containers, move your most valuable finds into Pip’s Pouch before you take a single step toward extraction. Pip’s Pouch protects items from loss if you die before reaching an extraction point. One or two protected slots holding your best finds means even a worst-case scenario doesn’t empty-hand you completely. If you have an active Fine or Rare Pouch Voucher, your extra protected slots are especially valuable here. See our guide on how Pip’s Fine Pouch Voucher works for the full protection system.

Don’t Linger in the Verdant Grounds Area

Other players know the loot room has just been opened the moment they see someone near it. Leave fast. Don’t open extra nearby containers on your way out unless they’re directly on your extraction path. The loot you have in hand is worth more than the hypothetical loot in the next chest over.

Head Straight to the Nearest Extraction Point

From the Verdant Grounds area, check your map for the nearest active Returner Woodling extraction point and move directly toward it. Avoid prolonged fights on the way out. If you encounter another player, use your class’s mobility tools to disengage rather than fighting — your priority is extracting the loot, not winning the engagement. Our extraction guide covers every method for getting out safely including the Smuggler Woodling emergency exit if things go sideways.

Class Tips for the Verdant Grounds Run

The Verdant Grounds POI is in the central-south area of Hallowgrove and sees regular player traffic. The class you run affects how smoothly you can reach the room and handle any PvP that breaks out:

    • The Mercenary is the most reliable class for holding position while looting a room under pressure
    • The Shadowstrix is the best class for getting in and out without being seen — stealth on approach, burst if challenged, escape if outnumbered
    • The Blackarrow can cover the approach angle effectively at range while looting
    • The Withered Knight is durable enough to win the PvP fights that break out around contested loot rooms

For a full breakdown of which class suits your playstyle for loot-focused runs, see our best classes for beginners guide.

Verdant Grounds Key vs Other Hallowgrove Keys

Hallowgrove has multiple locked rooms, each with its own key. The Verdant Grounds Key is specifically for the Verdant Grounds loot room and cannot be used on any other locked door on the map. Similarly, other keys like the Watchtower Key and Einherjar Shipgrave Key only work on their respective rooms.

The Verdant Grounds location is generally considered less contested than the Watchtower area because it sits further from the northwest cluster of high-value POIs where most players route. This makes it a slightly safer loot room run on average, though it still attracts experienced players who know its value. Compared to the Watchtower chest, the Verdant Grounds room typically has a similar loot floor but a different risk profile based on your route through the map.
