Who Is Razor in Genshin Impact?
Razor is a 4-star Electro character who uses a Claymore. He has been playable since the game launched in Version 1.0 and is one of the original Mondstadt characters. He lives among the wolves of Wolvendom in Mondstadt, away from human civilization. He is known as the Wolf Boy to the citizens of Mondstadt — a rough, wild young man who fights with raw instinct and primal force rather than formal technique.
His title is Lightning Claw, his constellation is Lupus Minor, and his birthday is September 9th. He is voiced by Todd Haberkorn in English. Razor recently became a Hexerei character following game updates, expanding his team-building options into Electro reaction compositions. See the full Razor character page for his complete profile.
If you are building a Mondstadt or Physical DPS roster, also check guides for Fischl and Bennett, who are two of Razor’s most effective teammates.
Genshin Impact is free to play on PC via the official site, Android, iOS, PlayStation, Epic Games Store, and Xbox.
Understanding Razor’s Electro Sigil System
Razor’s kit is built around Electro Sigils — a stacking resource he generates with his Elemental Skill. Here is how they work:
- Each tap of his Elemental Skill generates 1 Electro Sigil. He can hold up to 3 Sigils at a time.
- While Sigils are active, Razor’s Energy Recharge is significantly increased, helping him charge his burst faster.
- When he uses his Elemental Burst (Lightning Fang), all active Sigils are consumed and converted into Energy — the more Sigils he had, the more Energy he receives from the burst.
In practice, the optimal rotation is: use the Elemental Skill 3 times (or 2 taps + 1 hold) to build up Sigils → activate the burst to consume them for Energy → use the burst state aggressively → repeat. The Sigil system makes Razor a self-sustaining energy loop, meaning he needs relatively less ER from external sources compared to many other on-field DPS characters.
Razor Skills and Abilities
Normal Attack: Steel Fang
Razor performs up to 4 consecutive claymore strikes. His Charged Attack drains Stamina over time to spin continuously before ending with a powerful slash. His Plunging Attack drops from mid-air for AoE damage on landing. His Normal Attack chain is fast for a claymore user, making him one of the highest-hitting-frequency claymore characters in the game outside of his burst state.
Elemental Skill: Claw and Thunder
This skill has two functions depending on how you use it:
- Tap: Razor swings his Thunder Wolf Claw, dealing Electro DMG to enemies in front of him. He gains 1 Electro Sigil on a hit. If he already has 3 Sigils (the maximum), any overflow triggers a lightning strike from the Wolf Within (if the burst is active), dealing AoE Electro DMG and restoring 7 Energy via his A4 passive.
- Hold: Razor summons a larger lightning strike that deals AoE Electro DMG in a wider area. Crucially, using the Hold version consumes all of Razor’s current Electro Sigils and converts them to Energy at a rate proportional to how many Sigils he had. This is how you fuel the burst — build 3 Sigils with 3 Tap presses, then use the Hold version to dump them into Energy.
Elemental Burst: Lightning Fang
Razor summons the Wolf Within — a spectral wolf that fights alongside him. During the burst’s duration:
- All of Razor’s Electro Sigils are immediately converted into Energy (he effectively starts the burst fully recharged and ready to go again).
- The Wolf Within attacks alongside every Normal Attack Razor performs, dealing Electro DMG with each coordinated strike.
- Razor’s attack speed is significantly increased.
- Razor gains increased Electro RES and interruption resistance.
- If Razor leaves the field while the burst is active, a portion of the remaining Energy is returned to him based on how much burst duration was left.
The burst is designed for Razor to stay on the field and use Normal Attacks continuously. His attack speed boost makes him one of the fastest claymore hitters in the burst window, and the Wolf Within’s coordinated attacks add consistent Electro damage alongside each swing. The burst lasts 15 seconds. Do not swap off Razor during his burst — the Wolf Within stops attacking and much of the burst value is wasted if you leave the field early.
Passive Talents
- A1 – Awakening: Decreases Claw and Thunder’s cooldown by 18%. Using Lightning Fang resets the cooldown of Claw and Thunder entirely. This means after using his burst, Razor can immediately start pressing his skill to rebuild Sigils for the next burst cycle — no downtime between skill uses and burst refreshes.
- A4 – Hunger: When Razor’s Energy is below 50%, his Energy Recharge increases by 30%. This passive keeps Razor’s burst charging faster during the recovery phase between burst uses, helping maintain consistent burst uptime across multiple rotations without needing heavy ER investment on artifacts.
- Utility Passive – Wolvensprint: Decreases sprinting Stamina consumption for all party members by 20%. Very useful for open-world exploration. Note that this does not stack with other characters that have the same passive (like Kaeya).
Hexerei Bonus
After completing the Witch’s Homework: Of the Little Wolf Pack World Quest in Mondstadt, Razor becomes a Hexerei character. When Razor’s team includes at least 2 Hexerei characters, he gains the Hexerei: Secret Rite effect, which enhances his burst and his overall Electro performance. Hexerei characters include Fischl, Bennett, Klee, and several others from Mondstadt. This update added new team-building pathways for Razor in Overload and Electro-focused compositions.
Razor Constellations
Razor’s constellations improve his damage, crit potential, and energy generation over time. Here is the full breakdown:
- C1 – Wolf’s Instinct: Picking up an Elemental Orb or Particle increases Razor’s DMG by 10% for 8 seconds. Since Razor generates particles frequently with his skill and from teammates, this passive bonus is nearly always active in the middle of a fight, providing a consistent personal damage boost.
- C2 – Suppression: Increases Razor’s CRIT Rate by 10% against enemies with less than 30% HP. A clean execution bonus that makes finishing off weakened enemies more efficient and consistent.
- C3 – Soul Companion: Increases the level of Lightning Fang (Elemental Burst) by 3, up to Level 15. More Wolf Within Electro DMG and larger burst damage numbers.
- C4 – Bite: When Claw and Thunder (Press version) hits an opponent, it decreases their DEF by 15% for 7 seconds. In Physical DPS builds especially, DEF reduction is a significant damage multiplier — it is often more effective than an equivalent ATK increase against high-DEF enemies and bosses.
- C5 – Sharpened Claws: Increases the level of Claw and Thunder (Elemental Skill) by 3, up to Level 15. More Electro DMG on skill hits and improved Sigil-overflow lightning strikes.
- C6 – Lupus Fulguris: Every 10 seconds, Razor’s next Normal Attack deals 100% bonus Electro DMG. Additionally, when Razor is not in the Lightning Fang burst state, a Normal Attack that hits an opponent affected by Electro will create a lightning bolt dealing 600% ATK as Electro DMG. This makes Razor’s off-burst moments much more damaging. The C6 lightning bolt creates significant Electro pressure and enables reaction-triggering even between burst cycles.
Best constellation to aim for: C4 is the most impactful upgrade for Physical Razor builds — DEF shred meaningfully increases all damage against high-DEF enemies. C6 is strong for Electro/Overload builds where the extra Electro DMG adds significantly to his reaction output.
Best Weapons for Razor in Genshin Impact
Best Weapons for Physical DPS Build
- Wolf’s Gravestone (5-star): Very high base ATK with a massive ATK% substat. The passive additionally boosts team ATK when the wielder’s HP drops below 30%. One of the best raw ATK weapons in the game and a solid choice for Razor’s physical build, raising his Normal Attack damage substantially.
- The Unforged (5-star): ATK% substat with a stacking ATK bonus on hit that is further increased when the wielder has a shield. Strong in shielded team compositions and raises his Physical DMG ceiling.
- Serpent Spine (4-star, Battle Pass): CRIT Rate substat with a stacking DMG bonus over time (up to 5 stacks, +6% DMG each) that resets when Razor takes a hit. One of the best accessible 4-star options and dramatically improves his CRIT consistency. The stack management becomes easier with a shielder.
- Prototype Archaic (4-star, Craftable): ATK% substat with a passive that has a 50% chance to deal AoE ATK damage on Normal or Charged Attack hits. His best free-to-play option and very easy to obtain since it can be forged at any blacksmith using northlander claymore billets.
Best Weapons for Electro/Overload Build
- Beacon of the Reed Sea (5-star): CRIT Rate substat with ATK% stacks and HP scaling. Works in Overload builds where Razor stays aggressive during the burst window.
- Blackcliff Slasher (4-star, Starglitter Shop): CRIT DMG substat with stacking ATK% after kills. Works in multi-enemy scenarios and Overload content.
- Sacrificial Greatsword (4-star): Energy Recharge substat with a passive that can reset the Elemental Skill cooldown. Less common for Razor but useful in builds that need extra ER support or faster Sigil generation.
Best Artifacts for Razor in Genshin Impact
Best Set for Physical DPS: 4-Piece Pale Flame
This is Razor’s top artifact set in Physical builds. The 2-piece gives 25% Physical DMG Bonus. The 4-piece gives +9% ATK and +25% Physical DMG Bonus every time the Elemental Skill hits an opponent — and if both stacks are up simultaneously, the 2-piece bonus also doubles to +50% Physical DMG. Since Razor uses his Elemental Skill frequently to build Sigils, maintaining Pale Flame stacks is natural and reliable in most fights.
Budget Physical Option: 2-Piece Pale Flame + 2-Piece Bloodstained Chivalry
This combination gives a total of 50% unconditional Physical DMG Bonus (25% from each 2-piece set), with no stack conditions to manage. For players still building toward a full 4-piece Pale Flame, this split set is an excellent stop-gap that competes closely in real-fight scenarios due to its simplicity and consistent uptime.
Best Set for General/Electro Build: 4-Piece Gladiator’s Finale
For players not focusing on Physical DMG or running Overload Electro builds, 4-piece Gladiator’s Finale is the reliable alternative. The 2-piece gives 18% ATK. The 4-piece increases Normal Attack DMG by 35% for Claymore users. Since Razor’s burst window is almost entirely Normal Attacks, this set directly amplifies his most frequent damage source. It is also accessible from world bosses and older domains, making it easier to farm early.
Artifact Main Stats
Physical DPS Build:
- Sands: ATK%
- Goblet: Physical DMG Bonus%
- Circlet: CRIT Rate% or CRIT DMG%
- Sub-stats to prioritize: CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%, Energy Recharge (until burst uptime is comfortable)
Electro/Overload Build:
- Sands: ATK%
- Goblet: ATK% or Electro DMG Bonus%
- Circlet: CRIT Rate% or CRIT DMG%
- Sub-stats to prioritize: CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%, Energy Recharge
Razor’s ascension stat is Physical DMG Bonus, giving him 25.6% bonus Physical DMG at full Level 90 ascension. This makes the Physical build inherently strong without needing a Physical Goblet, though a Physical Goblet still adds more total Physical DMG than an ATK% Goblet in most scenarios.
Best Teams for Razor in Genshin Impact
Overload Team with Hexerei (Current Best)
- Razor – On-field Electro Main DPS
- Fischl – Off-field Electro battery and second Hexerei member
- Durin or Xiangling – Off-field Pyro for Overload reactions
- Bennett – ATK buff, healing, third Hexerei member (Pyro Resonance)
This is Razor’s strongest current team following the Hexerei updates. With at least 2 Hexerei characters present (Razor + Fischl, Bennett, or others), Razor gains the Hexerei: Secret Rite buff that enhances his burst and Electro output. Fischl’s Oz applies consistent off-field Electro, Durin or Xiangling applies off-field Pyro, and every time Razor’s Wolf Within or Normal Attacks trigger Overload (Pyro + Electro), the reaction deals AoE Dendro DMG boosted by Chevreuse’s resistance shred. Bennett provides the ATK floor that pushes Razor’s total damage substantially higher. See the Fischl guide and Bennett guide for their builds here.
Overload Team with Chevreuse
- Razor – On-field Electro Main DPS
- Durin or Xiangling – Off-field Pyro for Overload
- Chevreuse – Pyro/Electro-only team RES shred, ATK buff, and healing
- Bennett – Additional ATK buff and Pyro Resonance
Chevreuse’s Pyro/Electro-only team restriction fits Razor naturally in Overload builds. Her passive reduces both Pyro and Electro RES on enemies when Overload is triggered, and she provides modest healing alongside an ATK buff. In this team Razor stays on-field during his burst dealing Electro hits alongside Pyro from off-field characters, triggering Overload with high frequency. Chevreuse’s shred amplifies every reaction and every Electro hit. See the Chevreuse guide for her build here.
Superconduct Physical Team (Classic)
- Razor – On-field Physical Main DPS
- Fischl – Off-field Electro for Superconduct and energy battery
- Kaeya, Rosaria, or Diona – Cryo for Superconduct and additional support
- Bennett or Zhongli – ATK buff + healing or Shield
Superconduct (Cryo + Electro) reduces enemy Physical RES by 40% for 12 seconds — the best Physical damage amplifier in the game. Fischl’s Oz applies Electro off-field, Kaeya or Rosaria supply Cryo to trigger Superconduct, and Razor’s Physical attacks hit substantially harder against RES-debuffed enemies. This is the classic Razor team that has served players since launch and remains effective for most game content. It is completely free-to-play friendly, requiring no 5-star characters. Diona as the Cryo unit also provides a shield and healing in a single slot — very efficient. See the Diona guide and Rosaria guide for their best builds in this role.
Budget Beginner Team
- Razor – Main DPS
- Kaeya – Off-field Cryo for Superconduct
- Fischl or Beidou – Off-field Electro for Superconduct
- Barbara – Healing and occasional Hydro for Electro-Charged
For players early in the game, this budget team uses all standard 4-star and 3-star characters available through the game’s progression. Kaeya and Fischl (or Beidou) maintain Superconduct for Razor’s Physical damage, and Barbara keeps the team healthy. This team clears story content and most early Spiral Abyss floors effectively. See the Kaeya guide for his support build here.
Razor Ascension Materials
Gem Type
- Vajrada Amethyst (Sliver, Fragment, Chunk, and Gemstone) – The Electro gem. Drops from the Electro Hypostasis, Thunder Manifestation, Electro Regisvine, and Raiden Shogun weekly boss. Can also be crafted via Alchemy using Dust of Azoth.
Boss Drop
- Lightning Prism (46 needed) – Dropped by the Electro Hypostasis field boss, located at Cape Oath in southeastern Mondstadt. Spend 40 Original Resin per run. Note the boss regenerates HP via Electro orbs at low health — destroy the orbs before they reach the core to prevent healing.
Local Specialty
- Wolfhook (168 needed) – A spiky purple plant found exclusively in Wolvendom in Mondstadt — the same forest where Razor lives. Wolfhook grows near trees and bushes throughout the area. Razor is currently the only character who uses this material, so there is no competition when farming it. You can also buy 5 at a time from Chloris, a wandering florist found on the path north of Windrise, for 1,000 Mora each, restocking every 3 days. Wolfhook can also be grown in the Serenitea Pot using seeds collected with the Seed Dispensary gadget.
Enemy Drops
- Firm Arrowhead
- Sharp Arrowhead
- Weathered Arrowhead
All three tiers drop from Hilichurl Shooters — bow-wielding Hilichurls found at camps throughout Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, and beyond.
Ascension Stat
Razor gains Physical DMG Bonus as his ascension stat, reaching 25.6% bonus Physical DMG at full Level 90 ascension. This is one of the strongest possible ascension stats for a Physical DPS character, stacking multiplicatively with his Pale Flame or Bloodstained Chivalry artifact bonuses and the Superconduct resistance shred in the right teams.
Razor Talent Materials
To level up Razor’s talents, you will need:
- Resistance Talent Books: Teachings, Guide, and Philosophies of Resistance — farmed from the Forsaken Rift domain in Mondstadt on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays
- Firm, Sharp, and Weathered Arrowheads — drops from Hilichurl Shooters
- Dvalin’s Claw — weekly boss material from the Stormterror Dvalin challenge (Dragon, Storm Terror domain in Mondstadt)
- Crown of Insight — required to max a talent to Level 10
Notably, Razor does not use materials from the Andrius wolf boss — which makes thematic sense given his bond with the wolves of Wolvendom. His weekly material instead comes from Dvalin, the corrupted dragon.
Talent Priority
- Normal Attack first — The vast majority of Razor’s damage comes from his Normal Attack chain, both in and out of the burst state. The Wolf Within’s coordinated attacks during the burst also scale with the Normal Attack talent. Max this first.
- Elemental Burst second — Lightning Fang’s Wolf Within hits scale with the Burst talent level, and the burst window multiplies Razor’s hit frequency. Prioritize after Normal Attack.
- Elemental Skill third — Claw and Thunder deals Electro DMG and manages Sigils, but contributes the smallest share of total damage. Level it last.
Razor Playstyle Tips
- Stay on the field during your burst. This cannot be overstated. Razor’s Lightning Fang state is designed for continuous on-field Normal Attacks. Swapping off during the burst ends the Wolf Within immediately and wastes the remaining duration. Commit to the field for the full 15 seconds after activating the burst.
- Use your Elemental Skill 3 times before activating the burst. Building up 3 Sigils before using Lightning Fang maximizes the Energy conversion when the burst activates, helping you recharge faster for the next burst cycle. After your burst ends, use the skill immediately (the burst resets its cooldown via the A1 passive) to start rebuilding Sigils.
- Use the Hold version of the skill to dump Sigils into Energy mid-fight. If you have 3 Sigils and your burst is not ready yet, using the Hold version of Claw and Thunder converts all Sigils directly into Energy. This speeds up burst recharge significantly in longer fights.
- Do not cast off-field support bursts during Razor’s burst window. Activating another character’s burst means you must leave Razor’s burst state, ending the Wolf Within. Use all off-field support abilities before swapping to Razor and activating his burst. This includes Fischl’s burst, Bennett’s burst, and Xingqiu’s burst — do all of those first, then bring Razor in.
- Pair with a shielder if using Serpent Spine. Serpent Spine’s stacks reset when Razor takes damage. A shielder like Diona, Zhongli, or Noelle prevents this, maintaining the full 5-stack bonus throughout the burst window.
- His Wolvensprint passive reduces sprint Stamina for the whole party. This makes exploration with Razor in the party more comfortable. Just note it does not stack with identical passives on characters like Kaeya or Yelan.
Razor Lore and Background
The citizens of Mondstadt call him the Wolf Boy, and the mystery surrounding him has grown into local legend. People say he is an orphan raised by wolves. Others say he is a wolf spirit in human form. What is known is that Razor lives among the wolf pack of Wolvendom, barely remembering any human language and having no memory of his parents whatsoever — his earliest memories start after life among the wolves had already begun.
The wolves accepted him as part of their lupical — a word that, in the wolf tongue, means something like family, pack, or the closest bonds one can form. To Razor, the wolves of Wolvendom are his lupical. He can sense the mood of the wind, track scents from miles away, identify countless plants by sight, and navigate the wilderness as naturally as breathing. What he struggles with is human language, human customs, and the shape of a world he barely participated in growing up.
He has a complex relationship with the world outside Wolvendom. A man named Kaeya reached out to him at some point, teaching him language and giving him the name “Razor.” A scholar named Cyrus helped him understand more of the human world. And yet Razor does not feel fully at home in either world — too wild for civilization, but carrying a Cryo Vision that speaks to something beyond pure instinct.
His Electro Vision, his claymore, and his signature style of fighting — heavy, fast, and direct — reflect a boy who has replaced formal training with raw animal instinct. He does not need to understand techniques. He needs to protect his pack. And in combat, that simple purpose is more than enough.
How to Get Razor
Razor is a standard 4-star character available permanently on the Wanderlust Invocation Standard Wish banner. He has also appeared multiple times as a featured rate-up 4-star on limited event banners. He occasionally appears in Paimon’s Bargains, making constellation farming possible over time without spending limited Primogems. As a standard character, he is one of the most accessible DPS options in the game.
Is Razor Worth Building?
Razor is an excellent character for new and mid-game players. He is free, accessible, beginner-friendly, and delivers reliable on-field DPS without requiring complex team rotations. His Superconduct Physical build works with widely available 4-star characters and handles most story content and early Spiral Abyss floors with ease.
In the late game, Razor’s ceiling has historically been lower than premium 5-star Physical carries like Eula, but the Hexerei updates have added new Overload team pathways that bring him back into Spiral Abyss viability. With the right Hexerei lineup and proper investment, he can clear endgame content as a fully capable main DPS. His C4 DEF shred is a meaningful upgrade for endgame efficiency.
He is particularly recommended as a first main DPS investment for new players. He teaches core game mechanics — Superconduct, burst timing, and on-field DPS play — while remaining effective long enough for you to build a full roster around him. For players also exploring Mondstadt lore content alongside newer Snezhnaya characters, Razor pairs naturally in a Mondstadt-themed party with Bennett, Fischl, and Kaeya.
