Who Is Bennett in Genshin Impact?

Bennett is a 4-star Pyro Sword character from Mondstadt who has been in Genshin Impact since Version 1.0 launch. He is a member of the Adventurers’ Guild and the sole member of his own crew — Benny’s Adventure Team — after his staggering run of bad luck caused every previous member to leave. Despite being the unluckiest adventurer in all of Teyvat, Bennett is endlessly cheerful, brave, and kind-hearted.

In combat, Bennett is the most universally useful support character in the game. His Elemental Burst creates an Inspiration Field that heals and dramatically boosts the ATK of any character standing inside it. This buff is so strong and applies to so many teams that Bennett has remained a top-tier character from Version 1.0 all the way through the current game version — outlasting dozens of 5-star characters who were considered stronger at their release.

What makes Bennett uniquely powerful is that his ATK buff scales with his Base ATK — which comes from his character level and his weapon’s base ATK, not from artifact stats. This means you do not need to invest heavily in artifacts to make him effective. A high base ATK weapon is the most important thing you can give him.

You can read more about his constellations in our dedicated Bennett Constellations Guide and check his full ascension costs in the Bennett Ascension and Talent Materials guide.

    Bennett Pros and Cons

    Pros:

    • The strongest ATK buff in the entire game — flat ATK bonus that scales with his base ATK.
    • Heals the active character at the same time as buffing them — two jobs in one.
    • Generates Pyro particles rapidly through his low-cooldown Elemental Skill, acting as an energy battery for Pyro teammates.
    • Fits into almost every team that uses an ATK-scaling DPS character.
    • Available on the standard banner since launch — Constellations are relatively accessible over time.
    • Extremely low investment needed — weapon base ATK matters more than artifact quality.
    • Can double as a Pyro applicator to set up Vaporize, Melt, and Overloaded reactions.

    Cons:

    • His Inspiration Field is a static zone — characters must stand inside it to receive the buff and healing.
    • The ATK buff only applies when the active character’s HP is above 70%.
    • C6 infuses melee characters’ weapons with Pyro inside the field, which breaks some team setups and reactions.
    • Does not provide crowd control, shields, or interruption resistance.
    • His Pyro application can sometimes cause unwanted Vaporize reactions in non-Vaporize teams.

    Bennett Abilities and Skills

Normal Attack – Strike of Fortune

Bennett performs up to five rapid sword strikes. His Charged Attack uses Stamina for two fast slashes. His Plunge Attack drops from mid-air and deals AoE DMG on impact. Normal Attacks are rarely used in a support build — Bennett’s value comes entirely from his Skill and Burst, not his sword swings.

    Elemental Skill – Passion Overload

This is Bennett’s particle generator and secondary damage source. It has two modes based on how long you hold the button:

    • Tap: A swift single Pyro strike. Short cooldown (roughly 5 seconds after ascension passives), deals moderate Pyro DMG, and generates Pyro particles immediately. This is the version you use in most rotations — fast, low cooldown, and excellent for generating Energy for your Pyro teammates.
    • Hold (Level 1 Charge): Bennett charges up briefly and strikes twice with Pyro, dealing more DMG and launching enemies into the air. Slightly longer cooldown.
    • Hold (Level 2 Charge): Bennett fully charges and delivers a powerful explosion, dealing heavy Pyro DMG — but it also launches Bennett himself into the air from the blast. He takes no fall damage from this. Longest cooldown, highest damage, but the self-knockback makes it awkward in most situations.

In support play, Tap Skill is almost always the right choice. You want fast particle generation and low cooldowns, not the self-knockback from a full Hold.

    Elemental Burst – Fantastic Voyage

This is the most important ability in Bennett’s entire kit — and one of the most impactful Elemental Bursts in Genshin Impact. When activated, Bennett leaps forward and deals Pyro DMG before creating a large Inspiration Field around his landing point. The field lasts 12 seconds and does two things simultaneously for any active character standing inside it:

    • Healing: If the active character’s HP is below 70%, they are continuously healed based on Bennett’s Max HP.
    • ATK Buff: If the active character’s HP is above 70%, they receive a large flat ATK bonus equal to a percentage of Bennett’s Base ATK. At Talent Level 10, this reaches roughly 95% of his Base ATK as a flat bonus to the active character’s ATK.

The healing and ATK buff switch depending on HP threshold — if you drop below 70%, the field heals you back up, then the ATK buff kicks in again. In practice, characters in the field almost always stay above 70% HP and receive the full ATK bonus continuously.

The field also applies Pyro to the active character, which can be useful for setting up reactions — but at C6 this becomes a double-edged sword (see Constellations).

This Burst costs 60 Energy and has a 15-second cooldown, but since the field lasts 12 seconds and Bennett generates particles quickly with his Tap Skill, he can keep the field up for most of every rotation.

    Passive Talents

    • Rekindle (1st Ascension Passive): Reduces the cooldown of Passion Overload (Elemental Skill) by 20%. This drops the Tap Skill cooldown from about 5 seconds down to around 4 seconds, letting him generate Pyro particles more frequently.
    • Fearnaught (4th Ascension Passive): If Bennett uses his Elemental Skill within the radius of his own Inspiration Field (Burst), the cooldown of Passion Overload is further reduced by 50% and the Hold version of the Skill no longer knocks him back. Combined with the first passive, this reduces his Tap Skill cooldown to around 2 seconds and makes the Hold Skill safe to use inside his field. This passive is what lets Bennett serve as a fast Pyro battery in double Pyro or Mono Pyro teams — two-second cooldown Tap Skills generate a huge number of Pyro particles.
    • Utility Passive: When Bennett is in the party, the cooking process has a 12% chance to receive double the product when cooking “Suspicious”-quality food. A useful minor passive for exploration and buff food farming.

    Bennett Constellations

Bennett’s Constellations are a mix of strong upgrades and situational effects. His most important Constellations are C1 and C5, while C6 is controversial and requires careful consideration before unlocking.

    • C1 – Grand Expectation: Removes the HP threshold condition on the ATK buff — the active character receives the ATK bonus from the Inspiration Field regardless of their current HP. This is Bennett’s best Constellation by far. At C0, the ATK buff cuts out whenever HP drops below 70%, which interrupts the buff in heated situations. C1 makes the buff unconditional and permanent inside the field. A game-changing quality-of-life upgrade.
    • C2 – Impasse Conqueror: When Bennett’s HP falls below 70%, his Energy Recharge increases by 30%. A minor quality-of-life improvement that slightly reduces his Energy needs in tough fights where he takes damage.
    • C3 – Unstoppable Fervor: Increases the level of Passion Overload (Elemental Skill) by 3, up to Level 15. Boosts his Skill’s damage and slightly increases its particle generation value.
    • C4 – Unexpected Odyssey: Using a Normal Attack after a Charged Level 1 Passion Overload will trigger an extra slash dealing 135% Physical DMG. A niche buff for on-field DPS Bennett builds, not relevant to his support role.
    • C5 – True Explorer: Increases the level of Fantastic Voyage (Elemental Burst) by 3, up to Level 15. This directly boosts both the healing output and the ATK buff percentage of his most important ability. A very strong upgrade — level 13 Burst translates to a meaningfully higher flat ATK bonus.
    • C6 – Fire Ventures With Me: Characters standing inside the Inspiration Field have their Normal and Charged Attacks, as well as Plunging Attacks, infused with Pyro. Additionally, the Pyro DMG Bonus for characters in the field increases by 15%. This sounds powerful, but comes with a major caveat — the Pyro infusion overrides Elemental Infusions from other characters such as Kamisato Ayaka‘s Cryo infusion, Hu Tao‘s Paramita Papilio Pyro infusion (which actually overlaps fine), and Eula‘s Physical build. If you use Physical DPS characters or characters with their own Elemental Infusion that Bennett would override, do not activate C6. For pure Pyro DPS teams, C6 is a bonus.

Priority: C1 is the biggest upgrade and transforms his support reliability. C5 directly boosts his most important talent. C6 is strong for Pyro teams but potentially harmful for others — think carefully before unlocking it.

    Bennett Best Weapons

Bennett’s ATK buff is based on his Base ATK only — this is the white number in the stat details screen, coming from his character level and his weapon’s base ATK. Artifact ATK% does not affect the buff at all. This means the single most important weapon stat for a support Bennett is the weapon’s base ATK value.

Best Premium Weapon – Aquila Favonia

Aquila Favonia has the highest base ATK of any sword in Genshin Impact, sitting at 674 at max level. Since every point of Bennett’s base ATK translates directly into a larger ATK buff for your carry, this weapon maximizes his buff output more than any other option. Its passive also heals Bennett when he takes damage and deals AoE DMG — a nice bonus but not why you use it. Run this on Bennett whenever you have it, as long as no one in your roster needs it more urgently.

Best Weapon with High Base ATK – Skyward Blade

Skyward Blade has a high base ATK and an Energy Recharge substat, solving both of Bennett’s needs at once. Its passive boosts CRIT Rate and provides an ATK and movement speed bonus after using an Elemental Burst. A strong premium option if Aquila Favonia is on another character or not available.

Best F2P Weapon – Favonius Sword

This is the most practical free-to-play option for Bennett. The Favonius Sword has Energy Recharge as its substat, which directly helps Bennett keep his Burst up consistently. Its passive generates 6 Energy particles for the whole team on a CRIT hit, helping everyone charge their Bursts faster. The base ATK is lower than premium 5-star swords but is strong enough for most content. Build enough CRIT Rate (around 50%) to reliably proc the passive.

    Other Good Options

    • Mistsplitter Reforged: High base ATK 5-star sword. Provides CRIT DMG as a substat and stacks Elemental DMG bonuses. Excellent for an on-field DPS or hybrid Bennett build, and also provides a solid base ATK for his support buff.
    • The Alley Flash: A 4-star gacha sword with an above-average base ATK of 620 and Elemental Mastery as a substat. One of the highest base ATK 4-star swords available. Its passive boosts DMG by 12% (interrupted temporarily when hit), which helps with his personal damage as a sub-DPS.
    • Festering Desire: An event-exclusive sword with Energy Recharge as a substat and a passive that boosts Elemental Skill DMG and CRIT Rate. Great for a Bennett who wants to deal Skill damage while also keeping his Burst up. Only obtainable from its original event.
    • Sacrificial Sword: Resets his Elemental Skill on a CRIT hit. Gives Bennett an extra Skill use per rotation, more particles, and more damage. Works well in battery-focused Bennett builds with shorter field time.
    • Prototype Rancour: Craftable 4-star sword with Physical DMG and ATK/DEF stacks. Not ideal for support, but has a decent base ATK and is freely accessible for players who need a craftable option.

    Bennett Best Artifacts

Bennett’s artifact build is focused on one goal for his support role — maximizing Burst uptime and preserving his base ATK value. Do not stack ATK% on him for the support build. ATK% does not increase his buff. It only affects his personal damage, which is not the priority.

Best Support Build – Noblesse Oblige (4-Piece)

Noblesse Oblige is Bennett’s best artifact set for the support role in most teams. The 4-piece bonus gives all party members +20% ATK for 12 seconds after Bennett uses his Elemental Burst. Since Bennett uses his Burst in every rotation anyway, this team-wide ATK buff stacks on top of the Inspiration Field’s ATK bonus. Two sources of ATK increase at once — it is a simple but powerful combination. Run this on Bennett unless another teammate is already wearing Noblesse.

    Alternative – Instructor (4-Piece)

In teams that rely heavily on Elemental Reactions — like Vaporize, Melt, or Bloom — the Instructor set can pull ahead of Noblesse. When Bennett triggers an Elemental Reaction, all party members gain 120 Elemental Mastery for 8 seconds. This directly boosts the damage of transformative reactions and the amplification multiplier of Vaporize and Melt. The condition is that Bennett needs to trigger the reaction himself, which is easy since his Skill applies Pyro frequently. Best used in EM-hungry reaction teams like Hyperbloom or Burgeon.

Pure Healer Build – Ocean-Hued Clam (4-Piece) or Maiden Beloved (4-Piece)

If your team needs maximum healing rather than team buffing, Ocean-Hued Clam converts Bennett’s healing output into AoE damage through a bubble mechanic. Maiden Beloved is the simpler option — it increases healing effectiveness after using his Skill and Burst. Neither of these is the standard recommendation since Noblesse offers better overall team value, but they are viable in teams with very low survivability needs that just want a healer.

    Artifact Main Stats to Target

    • Sands: Energy Recharge (most important stat — aim for 160–180% total ER)
    • Goblet: HP% or ATK% (HP% for more healing, ATK% only helps personal damage, not the buff)
    • Circlet: HP% or Healing Bonus (if running a healer build) or CRIT Rate (to proc Favonius Sword passive)

    Artifact Substats Priority

Energy Recharge (to 160–180%) > HP% (for healing) > CRIT Rate (if using Favonius Sword)

Important note: Do not chase ATK% or CRIT DMG in artifact substats for a support Bennett. Those stats only affect his personal damage, which is secondary. ER and HP% are the relevant stats for his healing and Burst uptime.

    Bennett Ascension Materials

Here is everything you need to ascend Bennett from Level 1 to Level 90:

    • Pyro Gems: Agnidus Agate (Sliver, Fragment, Chunk, Gemstone) — farmed from Pyro bosses like the Pyro Regisvine, Pyro Hypostasis, or Primo Geovishap.
    • Boss Material: Everflame Seed — dropped by the Pyro Regisvine boss near Dadaupa Gorge in Mondstadt.
    • Local Specialty: Windwheel Aster — found throughout the plains and hills of Mondstadt, especially around Starfell Valley and Windrise.
    • Common Enemy Drop: Recruits Insignia, Sergeant’s Insignia, and Lieutenant’s Insignia — dropped by Fatui Skirmisher enemies.

    Talent Materials

To level up Bennett’s talents, you need:

    • Talent Books: Resistance series (Teachings, Guide, Philosophies of Resistance) — from the Domain of Mastery: Thundering Valleys in Mondstadt on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.
    • Weekly Boss Material: Dvalin’s Plume — dropped by Stormterror Dvalin, the weekly boss accessible through the Stormterror’s Lair domain in Mondstadt.
    • Common Material: Fatui Insignia series — from Fatui Skirmisher enemies.
    • Crown of Insight: One per talent to reach Level 10.

You can find the full breakdown of quantities and costs in the Bennett Ascension and Talent Materials guide.

    Bennett Best Team Compositions

Bennett fits into almost any team that has an ATK-scaling DPS. Here are the strongest and most common setups.

    National Team

The National Team is one of the oldest and most reliable team compositions in Genshin Impact. Bennett heals and buffs ATK, Xiangling deals massive off-field Pyro DMG with Gouba and Guoba, Xingqiu applies Hydro off-field for Vaporize reactions, and an Anemo character swirls to reduce elemental resistances. This team is almost entirely composed of 4-star characters and remains competitive in the hardest content in the game.

    • Pyro Support: Bennett
    • Pyro Sub-DPS: Xiangling
    • Hydro Sub-DPS: Xingqiu
    • Anemo Support: Kazuha or Sucrose

    Hu Tao Vaporize Team

Bennett pairs with Hu Tao carefully — Hu Tao’s kit prefers staying at low HP, and C0 Bennett’s field only buffs when HP is above 70%. This is why C1 Bennett is important in Hu Tao teams. Alternatively, Bennett is often replaced by another Hydro support in Hu Tao comps and instead used in the second team during Spiral Abyss.

    • Main DPS: Hu Tao
    • Hydro Sub-DPS: Yelan or Xingqiu
    • Pyro Support: Bennett (C1 preferred)
    • Flex: Kazuha or Anemo character

    Mono Pyro Team

Bennett is essential to Mono Pyro — his Burst provides the ATK buff while also enabling Pyro Resonance alongside other Pyro teammates. His constant Skill uses generate Pyro particles that charge the whole team’s Bursts rapidly. This team type works well with Lyney, Yoimiya, Arlecchino, or Mavuika as the main DPS.

    • Main DPS: Arlecchino, Lyney, or Yoimiya
    • Pyro Sub-DPS: Xiangling
    • Pyro Support: Bennett
    • Anemo / Flex: Kazuha or second Pyro

    Raiden Shogun Hypercarry

Bennett’s ATK buff synergizes extremely well with Raiden Shogun in her signature hypercarry setup. Raiden’s Elemental Burst scales with ATK, so Bennett’s flat ATK bonus directly multiplies her damage during the Burst window.

    • Main DPS: Raiden Shogun
    • Electro Sub-DPS: Kujou Sara
    • Anemo Support: Kazuha
    • Pyro Support: Bennett

    Melt Team

Bennett’s Pyro application off-field makes him an excellent Pyro enabler for Melt teams. Cryo DPS characters like Ganyu or Kamisato Ayaka hit enemies already coated in Pyro from Bennett’s field to trigger Reverse Melt for 2x damage multiplier.

    • Main DPS: Ganyu
    • Pyro Support: Bennett
    • Anemo Support: Kazuha or Venti
    • Flex: Shielder or second Cryo

    Bennett Talent Priority

Level Bennett’s talents in this order:

    1. Elemental Burst (Fantastic Voyage) — This is everything Bennett does as a support. Both his healing and his ATK buff scale directly with this talent level. Leveling it from 6 to 10 meaningfully increases the flat ATK bonus he provides to the whole team. Always max this first.
    2. Elemental Skill (Passion Overload) — Level this second if you want to invest further. Higher talent level increases his Skill’s damage and particle generation value. More relevant for on-field DPS or battery-focused Bennett builds.
    3. Normal Attack (Strike of Fortune) — Do not level this for a support Bennett. It only affects his personal sword swings, which you are rarely performing as a support. Skip this entirely unless you want to run him as an on-field DPS.

    Key Tips for Playing Bennett

    • Always use Bennett’s Tap Skill rather than Hold inside his own Inspiration Field — after his 4th Ascension Passive, the cooldown drops to just 2 seconds inside the field, letting him spam particles rapidly.
    • In rotations, use Bennett’s Burst before swapping to your main DPS, so the field is active when your carry enters the fight.
    • Bennett’s ATK buff is a flat number based on his base ATK — your carry’s own ATK% artifacts still multiply on top of this, making the combined total much larger than either alone.
    • If you are using Bennett in a Spiral Abyss team, know your field positioning. The Inspiration Field is a fixed circle — design your rotations so your DPS stays inside it while attacking.
    • Do not unlock C6 if you use Bennett with Eula, Ayaka, or any physical DPS — the Pyro weapon infusion will overwrite their damage type and destroy their output.

    Is Bennett Worth Building?

Bennett is not just worth building — he is one of the highest-priority characters in the entire game regardless of your roster. He has been a meta support since day one and continues to improve teams all the way through the current game version. There is no other 4-star character that provides his combination of team-wide ATK buffing, healing, Pyro application, and Energy battery all in a single slot.

His build is forgiving, his materials are straightforward to farm, and even a lightly invested Bennett with a Favonius Sword and a 4-piece Noblesse set contributes massively to any team. If you do not have him, he is worth targeting during standard banner pulls or event reruns. He is available on the standard banner permanently.
