Who Is Kamisato Ayaka in Genshin Impact?

Kamisato Ayaka is a 5-star Cryo character in Genshin Impact. She wields a Sword and hails from Inazuma, where she serves as one of the pillars of the Kamisato Clan — a noble family under the Yashiro Commission. She is the younger sister of Kamisato Ayato and holds the prestigious honorary title of Shirasagi Himegimi — the White Heron Princess — a name given to her by the people of Inazuma in recognition of her grace, beauty, and unwavering dedication to those around her.

Ayaka is one of the strongest and most beloved Cryo main DPS characters in the game. Her alternate sprint, powerful Burst, and natural synergy with the Freeze reaction make her one of the most satisfying characters to play. She has remained a top-tier choice for Spiral Abyss clears since her release and continues to be a consensus top Cryo DPS in the current meta. She is a limited banner character, meaning she is only obtainable when her Event Wish is active.

    Kamisato Ayaka

    Kamisato Ayaka’s Strengths and Weaknesses

    Strengths

    • Exceptional Burst damage — Kamisato Art: Soumetsu is one of the most powerful Elemental Bursts in the game. It deals massive, repeated Cryo hits and an explosive final AoE blast, and it snapshots at cast which synergises well with burst buffers like Mona.
    • Cryo application on sprint — Her alternate sprint applies Cryo on exit, enabling easy Freeze reactions, refreshing her Cryo DMG Bonus buff, and restoring Stamina. This is one of the most unique and practical mechanics of any character in the game.
    • Enormous CRIT potential in Freeze — When paired with Blizzard Strayer artifacts and Cryo Resonance, Ayaka passively gains up to 55% CRIT Rate before any artifact substats, letting you stack CRIT DMG for extremely high burst multipliers.
    • Comfortable field time — Ayaka does not need to stay on-field the entire rotation. You can freely swap to refresh supports before returning for her Burst window.
    • Remains top-tier in the current meta — Three years after release, no character has shipped with a higher Freeze ceiling. The Freeze archetype itself has not been replaced by any newer reaction.
    • Fun and elegant playstyle — Her sprint-into-attack loop and flowing animations make her one of the most enjoyable characters to control in the game.

    Weaknesses

    • Freeze-immune enemies reduce her damage significantly — Her best artifact set (Blizzard Strayer) relies on enemies being Frozen or at least Cryo-affected to provide CRIT Rate. Against enemies with innate Hydro auras or Freeze immunity, her performance drops.
    • High Energy requirement — Her Burst costs 80 Energy. She needs good Energy Recharge from substats or a Cryo battery teammate to maintain consistent Burst uptime.
    • Burst is a forward-moving field — Kamisato Art: Soumetsu moves forward in a straight line and can drift past enemies or push lighter ones away. Grouping enemies and positioning correctly is important for maximum damage.
    • Limited banner only — Unlike Standard Banner characters, you can only pull Ayaka when her specific Event Wish is active.

    Kamisato Ayaka’s Abilities and Talents

Normal Attack – Kamisato Art: Kabuki

Ayaka performs up to five rapid sword strikes. Her Charged Attack consumes Stamina to unleash a flurry of sword ki, dealing multiple hits in quick succession. This is a solid source of damage and is a key part of her rotation during her Elemental Skill’s post-cast buff window. Her Plunging Attack deals AoE damage on landing and can be used situationally.

Elemental Skill – Kamisato Art: Hyouka

Ayaka summons blooming ice that launches nearby enemies upward, dealing AoE Cryo damage. This Skill has a short cooldown and generates Cryo Elemental Particles, which are essential for managing her Energy needs. After using the Skill, her A1 passive activates immediately, granting a 30% Normal and Charged Attack DMG bonus for 6 seconds. Always use the Skill before entering your Normal and Charged Attack combo to take full advantage of this window. While the Skill itself is not the biggest source of damage in her kit, its particle generation and passive buff make it a vital part of every rotation.

Elemental Burst – Kamisato Art: Soumetsu

Ayaka summons a Frostflake Seki no To — a massive snowstorm that moves forward continuously, slashing through every enemy it touches and dealing continuous Cryo damage. The snowstorm explodes at the end of its duration, dealing additional AoE Cryo damage. This is the core of her DPS identity and the source of the majority of her damage. The Burst has an 80 Energy cost and a 20-second cooldown. Importantly, the Burst snapshots Ayaka’s ATK and Elemental DMG Bonus at the moment it is cast. This means you must always activate your buffs (such as Mona’s Omen, Kazuha’s EM buff, or Diona’s Cryo Resonance) before pressing her Burst button for maximum damage.

Alternate Sprint – Kamisato Art: Senho

Instead of a normal sprint, Ayaka cloaks herself in a frozen fog. While in Senho form, she glides swiftly across water as well as land. When she exits the sprint, she applies Cryo to nearby enemies. This is one of the most powerful mechanics in her kit. It allows easy and repeated Cryo application for maintaining Freeze without needing to use her Skill or Burst, and activates her A4 passive — granting 10 Stamina restoration and an 18% Cryo DMG Bonus for 10 seconds. Sprint into combat, exit, and immediately enter your Normal Attack and Charged Attack combo for free Cryo application and a damage boost simultaneously.

    Passive Talents

    • Amatsumi Kunitsumi Sanctification (A1) — After using Kamisato Art: Hyouka (Elemental Skill), Ayaka’s Normal and Charged Attacks deal 30% increased damage for 6 seconds. Use Skill before your Normal and Charged Attack combos every rotation.
    • Kanten Senmyou Blessing (A4) — When the Cryo application from her Alternate Sprint hits an opponent, Ayaka gains 10 Stamina restored and an 18% Cryo DMG Bonus for 10 seconds. Sprint into enemies at the start of every combat window for a free damage buff.
    • Fruits of Shinsa (Utility) — When Ayaka crafts Weapon Ascension Materials, she has a 10% chance to receive double the product. Handy for passive resource efficiency.

    Best Weapons for Kamisato Ayaka

Ayaka primarily wants CRIT DMG, high base ATK, and Elemental DMG Bonus. Because Blizzard Strayer already provides significant CRIT Rate, her weapons do not need to provide it, making CRIT DMG weapons particularly valuable for her.

    Best 5-Star Weapons

    • Mistsplitter Reforged (Best in Slot) — Ayaka’s signature weapon and her best-in-slot by a significant margin. It has the highest base ATK among Swords, a CRIT DMG substat, and a stacking Elemental DMG Bonus passive. Ayaka can fully stack the passive through her Normal Attacks, Elemental Skill, and Burst, giving her up to 40% Cryo DMG Bonus on top of her other bonuses. Pull for this weapon when it reruns if you plan to main her.
    • Haran Geppaku Futsu — A strong alternative with CRIT Rate as its substat and a passive that increases Normal Attack and Elemental DMG. It is a great option, though the CRIT Rate substat is slightly less efficient than CRIT DMG given how much CRIT Rate Blizzard Strayer already provides.
    • Primordial Jade Cutter — Provides high CRIT Rate and an ATK bonus based on Max HP. Works well but risks overcapping CRIT Rate when combined with Blizzard Strayer and Cryo Resonance. Works better on teams where Freeze uptime is inconsistent.

    Best 4-Star Weapons

    • Amenoma Kageuchi (Best Craftable) — A craftable sword from Inazuma that provides ATK as a substat and has a passive that generates Succession Seeds on Elemental Skill use. Each seed restores Energy when Ayaka uses her Burst, significantly reducing her ER needs. This is the best F2P option and competes well with many 5-star alternatives.
    • Blackcliff Longsword — Available from the Starglitter shop and provides CRIT DMG as a substat. Its passive buffs ATK after defeating enemies, which works in wave-based content. A solid placeholder option.
    • The Black Sword (Battle Pass) — CRIT Rate substat with Normal and Charged Attack DMG bonus. Decent for a more attack-heavy playstyle, but the CRIT Rate can overlap with Blizzard Strayer’s bonus. Good if you have nothing else.
    • Prototype Rancour (Craftable) — An early-game craftable option that raises ATK with each hit. Not as strong as Amenoma Kageuchi but a usable stepping stone until better options become available.

    Best Artifacts for Kamisato Ayaka

Ayaka’s artifact setup is one of the most straightforward in the game. Blizzard Strayer is her best-in-slot in almost every situation, and the math consistently supports it.

Blizzard Strayer (4-Piece) – Best in Slot

This is Ayaka’s core artifact set and the main reason her Freeze teams are so powerful. The 2-piece bonus provides 15% Cryo DMG. The 4-piece bonus grants 20% CRIT Rate against enemies affected by Cryo, and an additional 20% CRIT Rate if the enemy is Frozen — for a total of 40% bonus CRIT Rate. Combined with the 15% CRIT Rate from Cryo Resonance (when running two Cryo characters), Ayaka starts at 55% effective CRIT Rate before any artifact or weapon substats. This allows you to dump virtually all substats into CRIT DMG and ATK, pushing her Burst past 200,000 damage per hit in fully buffed conditions.

    Alternative Sets (Non-Freeze Scenarios)

    • 2-piece ATK% + 2-piece Cryo DMG (e.g. Shimenawa + Blizzard Strayer) — When Blizzard Strayer’s 4-piece bonus is wasted on Freeze-immune enemies, a mix of ATK% and Cryo DMG 2-piece sets performs better. This also helps sustain her damage output in Mono Cryo team setups.
    • Noblesse Oblige (4-piece) — Only recommended if you are using Ayaka as a Burst-focused unit in a team where another character already holds Blizzard Strayer or if you want the team-wide ATK buff from her Burst activation. Not the standard choice.

    Recommended Artifact Main Stats

    • Sands: ATK%
    • Goblet: Cryo DMG Bonus
    • Circlet: CRIT DMG (since Blizzard Strayer and Cryo Resonance cover CRIT Rate)

    Recommended Substats

Energy Recharge is the first priority — aim for 130–160% depending on your team’s battery support. After that, prioritise CRIT DMG, then ATK%. You need far less CRIT Rate from substats than most characters due to Blizzard Strayer and Cryo Resonance. Only invest in CRIT Rate substats if your Freeze uptime is inconsistent.

For newer artifact sets to complement Cryo teammates in Snezhnaya, see the Scarlet Proof artifact guide and the Heart of the Furnace artifact guide.

    Kamisato Ayaka Constellations Guide

Ayaka is excellent at C0 and you do not need constellations to clear Spiral Abyss with her. That said, her constellations do provide meaningful upgrades — especially C2 and C6. As a limited banner character, only invest in her constellations if you have already covered the rest of your roster.

    • C1 – Snowswept Sakura: When Ayaka’s Normal or Charged Attacks deal Cryo DMG, there is a 50% chance of reducing the cooldown of Kamisato Art: Hyouka (Elemental Skill) by 0.3 seconds. This can only occur once every 0.1 seconds. Reduces Skill cooldown in practice, helping with particle generation and A1 passive uptime. A solid quality-of-life constellation.
    • C2 – Blizzard Blade Seki no To (Best Constellation): When casting Kamisato Art: Soumetsu, Ayaka unleashes two smaller additional Frostflake Seki no To storms, each dealing 20% of the original Burst’s damage. This is her most impactful constellation because it widens the AoE coverage of her Burst and adds significant additional Cryo damage ticks, improving both total DPS and the consistency of her Freeze application.
    • C3 – Frostbloom Kamifubuki: Increases the level of Kamisato Art: Soumetsu (Burst) by 3, up to a maximum of level 15. A direct damage increase to her most important ability.
    • C4 – Ebb and Flow: Opponents damaged by the Frostflake Seki no To from Kamisato Art: Soumetsu have their DEF decreased by 30% for 6 seconds. This resistance shred applies on the Burst’s ticks and affects all team members’ damage while the effect lasts. Very useful in team contexts.
    • C5 – Blossom Cloud Irutsuki: Increases the level of Kamisato Art: Hyouka (Elemental Skill) by 3, up to a maximum of level 15. A minor boost to Skill damage.
    • C6 – Dance of Suigetsu: Every 10 seconds, Ayaka gains the Usurahi Butou effect, increasing her Charged Attack damage by 298%. This effect is cleared after she uses a Charged Attack and then resets. This constellation turns her Charged Attacks into extremely powerful burst windows and significantly raises her damage ceiling, particularly in longer fights. It is her strongest constellation overall.

    Kamisato Ayaka’s Best Team Compositions

Ayaka performs best in Freeze compositions. Her damage is built around enemies being Frozen or at least Cryo-affected to maximise the CRIT Rate bonus from Blizzard Strayer. Mono Cryo is a viable alternative when Freeze is not possible.

Classic Freeze Team – Morgana (Best All-Round Freeze)

This is Ayaka’s iconic team composition and one of the most powerful Freeze setups in the game. The name “Morgana” comes from community naming conventions. The team uses Blizzard Strayer’s 40% CRIT Rate and Cryo Resonance’s 15% CRIT Rate to give Ayaka an enormous free damage foundation, letting substats focus entirely on CRIT DMG and ATK%.

    • Ayaka + Mona + Kazuha + Diona — The classic setup. Mona provides off-field Hydro application and her Burst’s Omen buff snapshots with Ayaka’s Burst for a huge multiplier. Kazuha groups enemies, buffs Cryo DMG via Elemental Mastery, and holds Viridescent Venerer for resistance shred. Diona provides a shield, Cryo Resonance, and batteries Ayaka’s Energy through Cryo particles. This team can push Ayaka’s Burst to 200,000+ per hit fully buffed.

Premium Freeze Team – Furina Variant

With Furina available, this team replaces Mona for a stronger buff profile in most scenarios. Furina’s Fanfare mechanic scales from how much HP changes in the team, and Ayaka’s Burst combined with Diona’s healing creates constant HP fluctuations that stack Fanfare rapidly.

    • Ayaka + Furina + Kazuha + Diona — One of Ayaka’s strongest current teams. Furina buffs the whole team’s DMG%, Kazuha shreds RES and buffs Cryo DMG, and Diona provides energy, shield, and Cryo Resonance. Ayaka still handles the bulk of DPS through her Burst and Charged Attacks in the Freeze window.
    • Ayaka + Furina + Shenhe + Kokomi — A premium option using Shenhe’s Cryo Quill stacks to amplify Ayaka’s Cryo damage even further. Kokomi provides consistent Hydro application and healing to support Furina’s mechanic. Very strong in single-target and grouped multi-target scenarios.

Permafrost / Double Cryo Double Hydro

This setup maximises Freeze uptime by using two Cryo characters and two Hydro characters simultaneously. All four contribute off-field damage or support, while Ayaka provides the on-field Burst DPS.

    • Ayaka + Ganyu + Ayato + Kokomi — Ganyu provides off-field Cryo from her Burst, Ayato applies Hydro with his Skill, and Kokomi heals while applying continuous Hydro from her Skill. Kokomi’s Tenacity of the Millelith holds also buffs the team. Ayaka and Ganyu trigger Freeze constantly while both dealing Cryo damage off- and on-field.
    • Ayaka + Mona + Diona + Venti — A classic permafreeze setup. Venti groups enemies into his Burst and Mona keeps Hydro on them. Diona shields and batteries. Ayaka Bursts into the grouped frozen enemies for massive damage.

    Mono Cryo Team

When facing Freeze-immune enemies or enemies with innate Hydro auras, Mono Cryo becomes a viable fallback. This team uses Cryo Resonance and stacking Cryo buffs rather than Freeze reactions to drive Ayaka’s damage. Blizzard Strayer’s 4-piece bonus still applies since enemies are affected by Cryo even without being Frozen.

    • Ayaka + Shenhe + Kazuha + Diona/Jean — Shenhe provides Icy Quill stacks that increase Cryo damage, Kazuha groups and buffs, and Diona or Jean sustains the team. Strong against bosses and enemies that resist Freeze.

    Kamisato Ayaka Talent Priority

Recommended talent upgrade order: Burst > Normal Attack > Elemental Skill.

Her Burst is the clear priority because the vast majority of her total damage comes from Kamisato Art: Soumetsu. Level this first and consider crowning it for maximum investment. Normal Attacks come second because her Charged Attacks during the Blizzard Strayer CRIT Rate window are a strong secondary damage source, particularly at C6. The Elemental Skill is the lowest priority as its own damage contribution is smaller, though its passive buff and Energy generation make it valuable to upgrade eventually.

Kamisato Ayaka Lore and Character Background

Kamisato Ayaka is the younger sister of Kamisato Ayato and a core member of the prestigious Kamisato Clan under the Yashiro Commission in Inazuma. While Ayato handles government and political affairs as the head of the clan, Ayaka oversees the internal and external affairs — maintaining relationships with the people of Inazuma and acting as the face of the clan in public life.

She has earned the title of Shirasagi Himegimi — the White Heron Princess — through years of grace, politeness, and genuine care for those around her. Despite her noble standing, Ayaka is not distant or aloof. She personally helps ordinary citizens with everyday matters, often going out of her way without concern for her own schedule or status. Her earnestness has moved many people, and her reputation across Inazuma is one of near-universal admiration.

Beneath her composed and dignified exterior lies a tender, slightly shy side that she rarely shows in public. She is a perfectionist who excels at tea ceremony, chess, poetry, and of course, swordsmanship. She views friendship as something dictated by fate and holds the people who have proven themselves close to her heart in very high regard. Her story questline and hangout events reveal layers of her personality that go well beyond her composed public image, and players who follow her story will find a character of genuine depth and warmth.

How to Get Kamisato Ayaka in Genshin Impact

Ayaka is a limited banner 5-star character. She is not available on the Standard Banner. Here is how to obtain her.

    • Heron’s Court Event Wish — Ayaka only appears on her dedicated limited Event Wish banner. When her banner is active, she has a boosted drop rate. Check the current banner schedule on the official Genshin Impact website.
    • Chronicled Wish — Ayaka has appeared in Chronicled Wish banners, which offer a selection-based path to obtaining featured characters. Check if she is included in any upcoming Chronicled Wish for a more targeted approach.

You can download Genshin Impact for free on Android (Google Play), iOS (App Store), PlayStation, Epic Games Store (PC), and Xbox.

Kamisato Ayaka Playstyle Tips and Rotation Advice

    • Always buff before Burst — Ayaka’s Burst snapshots ATK and Elemental DMG Bonus at cast. Always activate Mona’s Omen, Kazuha’s EM buff, Furina’s Fanfare, or any other relevant buff before pressing Q. Pressing Burst first and stepping into buffs afterward wastes a large portion of her damage potential.
    • Sprint into combat every rotation — Use her alternate sprint at the start of each combat window to apply Cryo to enemies for Freeze, restore Stamina, and activate the A4 passive for 18% Cryo DMG Bonus. Then immediately go into your Skill and Charged Attack combo.
    • Elemental Skill before Charged Attacks — Always use Kamisato Art: Hyouka right before entering your Charged Attack sequence. The A1 passive grants 30% Normal and Charged Attack DMG for 6 seconds after the Skill activation.
    • Standard rotation order — A general rotation is: Buff supports → Sprint → Skill → Normal Attack / Charged Attack combo → Burst. Repeat supports in between to keep buffs active before the next Burst window.
    • Energy management — Keep an eye on her Energy. Use her Skill on cooldown, run a Cryo battery (Diona, Rosaria, or Ganyu’s off-field Burst), and aim for 130–160% Energy Recharge depending on how much support you get from teammates.
    • Positioning the Burst — Her Burst moves forward in a straight line. Position Ayaka so the storm passes through the centre of grouped enemies. Use Venti or Kazuha to group enemies first for maximum hits.
