The best Cryo Traveler teams in Genshin Impact are built around one of two distinct playstyles — on-field DPS in Stellar-Conduct, or off-field Burst DPS in Stellar Swirl. The Cryo Traveler is the only completely free Stellar Linchpin enabler in Version 7.0, available to every player the moment they touch a Snezhnaya Statue of the Seven. What makes the Cryo Traveler unique is that the Frostpierce Star behaves differently depending on which reaction is active, giving it genuinely different builds and team compositions for each playstyle.
This guide covers every strong team for Cryo Traveler across both reaction types, from premium options with Odette and Yae Miko to fully F2P builds anyone can field. For the build — weapons, artifacts, and stats — see our Odette best build guide for the premiere enabler partner. For how Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl work, check our Stellar Glimmer reaction guide. For her best support partner, read our Alyosha best build guide.

Cryo Traveler Overview — Two Playstyles, One Character
The Cryo Traveler is the Traveler’s seventh and final elemental form, unlocked by resonating with any Snezhnaya Statue of the Seven. Unlike previous Traveler elements, the Cryo version is built specifically around Snezhnaya’s new Stellar Glimmer reactions — and uniquely, it is one of only three characters in Version 7.0 that carry the Stellar Linchpin passive that enables both Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl. The other two are Odette (5-star) and Sandrone (5-star).
What makes Cryo Traveler exceptional for a free character is that the Frostpierce Star from the Elemental Skill works differently depending on the active reaction state — creating genuinely distinct playstyles for Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl teams, rather than one kit that gets stretched into both modes.
Stellar-Conduct Mode — On-Field DPS
In Stellar-Conduct, the Frostpierce Star infuses the Traveler’s Normal Attacks and Charged Attacks with Cryo and deals coordinated Cryo hits alongside every attack the Traveler lands. This means every Normal Attack the Cryo Traveler makes generates a Frostpierce hit, building Frostglow stacks rapidly and keeping Cryo application constant. Stellar-Conduct also requires the Traveler to be on-field to generate those stacks, making this an on-field main DPS playstyle.
At 8 Frostglow stacks, the Elemental Burst deals maximum damage and fires additional ice javelins. Building stacks quickly by normal attacking with the Frostpierce Star active is the core gameplay loop.
Stellar Swirl Mode — Off-Field Burst DPS
In Stellar Swirl, the Frostpierce Star becomes an autonomous off-field turret that follows the active character and fires Cryo shards at enemies every two seconds. The Traveler does not need to be on-field to generate Frostglow stacks in this mode — the turret handles Cryo application passively. This enables an off-field quick-swap sub-DPS playstyle, where the Traveler casts the Skill for the off-field turret, rotates away, then comes back to cast the Burst and a Charged Attack before swapping out again.
Key Passive — ATK to Elemental Mastery
Cryo Traveler’s Ascension 4 passive converts ATK into Elemental Mastery — gaining up to 160 EM at 2,000 ATK. This EM directly amplifies the Stellar Vortex detonations in Stellar Swirl teams and the Polestar Field damage in Stellar-Conduct teams. Building ATK therefore serves double duty: more personal damage and more reaction power simultaneously.

Best Cryo Traveler Stellar-Conduct Teams
Team 1 — Premium Stellar-Conduct (Best On-Field)
Cryo Traveler / Odette / Yae Miko / Alyosha
This is the strongest Stellar-Conduct team for Cryo Traveler in Version 7.0. Odette enables the reaction alongside the Traveler (making two Stellar Linchpins active simultaneously), provides continuous off-field Cryo through her Dance Double, and buffs the team’s Stellar reaction damage based on her ATK. Yae Miko applies off-field Electro consistently through her Sesshou Sakura turrets — and at C1, her passive grants the whole team 50% Electro and Stellar-Conduct DMG Bonus every time the reaction fires. Alyosha buffs ATK%, adds Stellar-Conduct damage bonuses, heals the active character, and provides additional off-field Electro from Tugarin. The Cryo Traveler stays on-field as the main DPS, stacking Frostglow through Normal Attacks backed by the infused Frostpierce Star. This team’s synergy is near-perfect — every character directly amplifies Stellar-Conduct and the Traveler’s output. For Yae Miko’s setup in this team, see our Yae Miko Stellar Conduct build guide. For Alyosha, our Alyosha best build guide covers everything.
Team 2 — Cryo Traveler + Odette + Yae Miko + Qiqi
Cryo Traveler / Odette / Yae Miko / Qiqi
A variant that swaps Alyosha for Qiqi. Running Cryo Traveler, Odette, and Qiqi puts three Cryo characters in the team — though Cryo Resonance only requires two, the extra off-field Cryo from Qiqi keeps the aura consistent for Yae Miko to react with. Qiqi also buffs Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl through her kit and heals strongly. The trade versus Alyosha is less ATK% and Elemental Mastery buffing in exchange for more reliable healing and easier Cryo uptime. Our Qiqi Stellar Conduct build guide covers her setup here.
Team 3 — Cryo Traveler as Off-Field Enabler (Supporting Cyno/Wriothesley)
Cyno (or Wriothesley) / Cryo Traveler / Yae Miko / Alyosha
When Odette is not available, Cryo Traveler fills her off-field enabling role for Electro or Cryo main DPS characters who cannot enable Stellar reactions themselves. In this setup, Cyno or Wriothesley is the main on-field DPS, while Cryo Traveler rotates in briefly to use the Elemental Skill (for the off-field turret in Stellar Swirl mode, or for Cryo application in Stellar-Conduct) and the Burst, then swaps back out. This lets the main DPS benefit from Stellar reaction enabling without needing a 5-star Stellar Linchpin. Yae Miko and Alyosha cover off-field Electro, buffing, and healing as usual. See our Cyno Stellar Conduct build guide for full details.
Best Cryo Traveler Stellar Swirl Teams
Team 4 — Mizuki Stellar Swirl (Best Stellar Swirl)
Mizuki / Cryo Traveler / Odette / Sucrose
This is the strongest Stellar Swirl team featuring Cryo Traveler in Version 7.0. Mizuki (Yumemizuki Mizuki) is the on-field Anemo DPS driver, triggering Swirls continuously and dealing massive Stellar Vortex damage scaled by Elemental Mastery and CRIT. Cryo Traveler plays off-field in this team — the Frostpierce Star becomes a Cryo turret in Stellar Swirl mode, applying Cryo passively while the Traveler is off the field. The Traveler rotates in briefly to cast the Elemental Skill, land a Charged Attack, then cast the Burst for its enhanced Stellar Swirl hit before swapping back to Mizuki. Odette enables Stellar Swirl alongside the Traveler, provides additional off-field Cryo through her Dance Double, and buffs the Vortex damage with her ATK-based passive. Sucrose shares Elemental Mastery with the whole team, amplifying the Vortex detonation, and shreds enemy Cryo resistance when holding Viridescent Venerer. For Mizuki’s full build, check our Mizuki Stellar Swirl build guide.
Team 5 — Double Stellar Linchpin Swirl
Cryo Traveler / Odette / Sucrose / Qiqi
A Stellar Swirl team where Cryo Traveler takes the main on-field role, driving reactions while Odette supplies off-field Cryo and enabling buffs. Sucrose triggers Anemo Swirls off-field through her Burst and shares Elemental Mastery. Qiqi provides healing, off-field Cryo for Resonance, and Stellar reaction buffs from her kit. This team works well when you do not own Mizuki or want to use the Cryo Traveler as the active driver rather than a quick-swap sub-DPS.
Best F2P Cryo Traveler Teams
Team 6 — F2P Stellar-Conduct (No Limited 5-Stars)
Cryo Traveler / Fischl / Alyosha / Diona
A fully free-to-play Stellar-Conduct team. Cryo Traveler is the on-field main DPS. Fischl handles off-field Electro through Oz and adds some ATK% buffing. Alyosha covers ATK% buffs, Stellar-Conduct damage buffs, healing from Tugarin, and additional off-field Electro. Diona at C6 adds Elemental Mastery sharing inside her Burst field, healing, and Cryo Resonance with the Traveler. No limited 5-stars required — the entire team is accessible to every player.
Team 7 — F2P Hexerei Stellar-Conduct
Cryo Traveler / Fischl / Alyosha / Prune (or Sucrose)
This F2P team activates the Hexerei buff by running Fischl and a Hexerei Anemo character like Prune or Sucrose together. Both characters apply their elements off-field and trigger the Hexerei passive, increasing both their DPS and utility. Fischl coordinates off-field Electro hits with Cryo Traveler’s Normal Attacks, triggering Stellar-Conduct consistently. The Anemo character enables Stellar Swirl on top, layering both reactions. Alyosha buffs the whole team’s ATK%, adds Stellar-Conduct damage bonuses, and heals. The Traveler rotates and attacks while the team applies reactions around it. Rotation order: Alyosha → Fischl → Prune/Sucrose → Cryo Traveler. Briefly return to Fischl mid-rotation to refresh Oz if needed.
Team 8 — F2P Stellar Swirl
Cryo Traveler / Sucrose / Alyosha / Diona
A budget Stellar Swirl team with no 5-stars required. Cryo Traveler plays as the on-field driver. Sucrose applies Anemo, shares Elemental Mastery with the team, and shreds enemy Cryo resistance when holding Viridescent Venerer — directly boosting Vortex detonations. Alyosha provides ATK% buffs, healing, and off-field Electro for optional Stellar-Conduct layering. Diona at C6 adds additional Elemental Mastery sharing inside her Burst, plus healing and shielding. This team lacks Mizuki’s raw Vortex damage ceiling but functions correctly as a Stellar Swirl team with consistent reactions and decent total output.
Cryo Traveler Team Building Tips
- Know your mode before building the team — Stellar-Conduct needs the Traveler on-field; Stellar Swirl lets them play off-field. Your rotation changes completely depending on which mode is active, so match the team to the intended playstyle before selecting characters.
- Stack Frostglow to 8 before Bursting — in Stellar-Conduct mode, the Burst deals significantly more damage and fires extra javelins at 8 stacks. Normal attacking with the infused Frostpierce Star active builds stacks quickly. Do not Burst early.
- In Stellar Swirl, cast Skill early in rotation — the Frostpierce Star turret applies Cryo off-field while the Traveler is away, but only for 12 seconds. Use it at the start of the rotation so it covers as much of your main DPS’s field time as possible.
- Odette is the best upgrade from F2P to premium — she adds a second Stellar Linchpin, continuous off-field Cryo through the Dance Double, and significant ATK-based reaction buffs. Any Cryo Traveler team becomes noticeably stronger with her in it. See our Odette best teams guide for full premium options.
- Cryo Resonance is free CRIT Rate — adding a second Cryo character (Qiqi, Diona, or Odette) gives the whole team 15% CRIT Rate. Always worth building toward in Stellar-Conduct where the Traveler is the main DPS and can leverage CRIT directly.
- The Exaiphanes Blade is the Traveler’s best weapon — obtained free during the Archon Quest, it is the Traveler’s signature sword and their best-in-slot. Upgrade it at every Snezhnaya Statue of the Seven. Our Exaiphanes Blade upgrade guide covers every step.
- Sucrose is the best Elemental Mastery battery — her passive shares EM with the whole party. In both Stellar reaction types, more EM means more Vortex and Polestar damage. Sucrose covers this role at zero 5-star cost.
Which Playstyle Should You Choose?
If you want to play the Cryo Traveler as the main DPS and own an Electro character like Yae Miko or Fischl — go Stellar-Conduct. The Cryo infusion from the Frostpierce Star gives the Traveler a strong Normal Attack loop with built-in Cryo application, making this the higher personal damage ceiling.
If you own or plan to pull Mizuki, or want the Traveler to play a support role while another character drives — go Stellar Swirl. The off-field turret mode lets Cryo Traveler be a high-value sub-DPS without needing field time, which is more efficient in teams where the main Anemo driver wants uninterrupted time on the field.
Both playstyles are strong and neither is clearly superior in all situations. Running one Stellar-Conduct team and one Stellar Swirl team in Spiral Abyss is a common approach, and the Cryo Traveler can flex between the two depending on which side needs which reaction.
