Cryo Traveler Best Build In Genshin Impact

    By Mark Smith · August 13, 2026 · 12 min read
best cryo traveler teams in genshin impact

The Cryo Traveler best build in Genshin Impact depends on which playstyle you are running — on-field DPS in Stellar-Conduct or off-field Burst DPS in Stellar Swirl. Both use mostly the same stat priorities, but the artifact set and rotation differ. What they share is the same weapon: the Exaiphanes Blade, the free 5-star sword the Traveler receives during the Snezhnaya Archon Quest. It is the Traveler’s best weapon by a clear margin in both modes and makes the build straightforward to put together.

This guide covers everything — stats, weapons, artifacts, talent order, constellations, and rotation tips for both playstyles. For the best teams to run with Cryo Traveler, see our best Cryo Traveler teams guide. For how Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl work, check our Stellar Glimmer reaction guide. For how to power up the Exaiphanes Blade, read our Exaiphanes Blade upgrade guide.

    Cryo Traveler Build Overview

Cryo Traveler’s kit centers on two primary damage sources — the Elemental Burst (Frostbound Javelin) and the special Freezing Ice Charged Attack — both of which deal direct Stellar reaction damage. The Elemental Skill (Ice Fog Piercer) summons the Frostpierce Star, which builds Frostglow stacks to empower those two hits, but the Skill itself deals lower personal damage and does not need to be leveled high.

The Frostglow stack system is the core mechanic. Up to 8 stacks can accumulate before using the Burst, and at 8 stacks, the Burst fires additional ice javelins for noticeably more damage. Generating stacks quickly in Stellar-Conduct mode means staying on-field and Normal Attacking with the Frostpierce Star active. In Stellar Swirl mode, the Star works off-field, building stacks passively while another character drives.

Two passive talents amplify the build. The A2 passive grants up to 10% CRIT Rate when Frostglow stacks are generated during Stellar-Conduct. The A4 passive (Lucent Ice) converts 8% of the Traveler’s ATK into Elemental Mastery — up to 160 EM at 2,000 ATK — which then feeds into reaction damage scaling. Both passives push toward stacking ATK as the primary stat.

Play Genshin Impact on the official website or download it on Android, iOS, PlayStation, Epic Games, or Xbox.

    Cryo Traveler Stat Priority

Cryo Traveler’s stat priority is the same across both Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl builds. ATK% is marginally stronger than Elemental Mastery as the primary main stat because ATK feeds both the Traveler’s direct damage and the A4 EM conversion passive. That said, the difference between an ATK Goblet and an EM Goblet is small enough that you should use whichever piece has better substats.

    • ATK% (top priority): Scales all personal damage, the Frostpierce Star hits, and the A4 passive’s EM conversion. The more ATK above 2,000, the more EM Cryo Traveler passively generates for reaction scaling. Aim for 3,000+ ATK with the Exaiphanes Blade equipped.
    • CRIT DMG and CRIT Rate: Both reaction types can CRIT. Aim for a healthy ratio — around 80–100% CRIT Rate and 200%+ CRIT DMG is the target. The Exaiphanes Blade at R1 provides 33.1% CRIT Rate, which covers a large portion of the target automatically. Note that Cryo Traveler can also gain 10% CRIT Rate from the A2 passive in Stellar-Conduct mode and 15% from Cryo Resonance, making overcapping possible if running a CRIT Rate weapon like Primordial Jade Cutter — use a CRIT DMG Circlet in that case.
    • Elemental Mastery: A secondary stat. The A4 passive generates EM from ATK, so you do not need to stack EM directly — you will receive 160 EM passively at 2,000 ATK. Additional EM substats are still worthwhile since Vortex detonations (Stellar Swirl) and Polestar Field hits (Stellar-Conduct) both scale with EM.
    • Energy Recharge: Keep at manageable levels. Burst cost is 60 Energy, which is low. With a second Cryo character in the team, 120–140% ER is the target. With a third Cryo, 100–110% is enough. Favonius weapons on teammates reduce this further.

    Artifact Main Stats

    • Sands: ATK% (EM if that piece has significantly better substats)
    • Goblet: ATK% (EM is competitive in Stellar Swirl teams)
    • Circlet: CRIT DMG (if CRIT Rate is already above 80%) or CRIT Rate (if below)

    Substat Priority

CRIT Rate → CRIT DMG → ATK% → Elemental Mastery → Energy Recharge

    Best Weapon For Cryo Traveler

Exaiphanes Blade — Best In Slot (Free)

The Exaiphanes Blade is the Traveler’s signature 5-star sword, received automatically during the Snezhnaya Archon Quest. It is the Cryo Traveler’s best weapon in both Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl builds — and because it is free, there is almost no reason to use anything else. At Level 90 it has 608 Base ATK and a 33.1% CRIT Rate substat, which covers a huge portion of the CRIT ratio target from the weapon alone.

Its passive, Traveler’s Path, grants an ATK% buff whenever the Traveler hits an opponent, and restores Elemental Energy on a cooldown — working even off-field. At higher refinements (R2+), it also grants CRIT DMG per resonated element, scaling with how many elemental forms the Traveler has unlocked. By R3 (max available in Version 7.0), this becomes a meaningful CRIT DMG addition on top of an already-strong base package.

Upgrading the Exaiphanes Blade requires visiting Snezhnaya Statues of the Seven. Each statue gives one refinement — up to R3 is possible in Version 7.0 with five statues currently available. See our full Exaiphanes Blade upgrade guide for every statue location and step.

Alternative Weapons (If Exaiphanes Blade Is Not Yet Upgraded)

While the Exaiphanes Blade is clearly the best choice, here are reasonable alternatives if you are waiting to upgrade it or need a comparison:

    • Emberwell (4-star craftable): Elemental Mastery substat and an ATK + Stellar Glimmer DMG bonus that activates off-field. The best 4-star alternative in Stellar reaction teams, landing at around 94–95% of Exaiphanes Blade R5 performance.
    • Primordial Jade Cutter (5-star): High CRIT Rate substat and HP-based ATK scaling. Functional but slightly below Exaiphanes Blade and Emberwell R5 due to CRIT Rate overcapping when combined with Cryo Resonance and the A2 passive.
    • Whitelake Frostfeather (5-star, Odette’s signature): CRIT Rate substat, ATK stacking passive, and Stellar Glimmer CRIT DMG bonus at 3 stacks. Sits at around 97% of Exaiphanes Blade R5 on the Traveler — a meaningful weapon if you pulled it for Odette and want to test it on the Traveler, but not worth pulling specifically for them.

Best Artifact Sets For Cryo Traveler

4-Piece Disenchantment In Deep Shadow — Best For Stellar-Conduct

Disenchantment in Deep Shadow is the top artifact set for Cryo Traveler in on-field Stellar-Conduct teams. The two-piece provides +18% ATK. The four-piece increases Stellar-Conduct reaction damage by 40% and grants the wearer a 16% CRIT Rate bonus when attacking enemies affected by Superconduct or Stellar-Conduct. Since Stellar-Conduct is active essentially the entire time Cryo Traveler is on-field, this CRIT Rate bonus is near-permanent — pushing the already high CRIT Rate from the Exaiphanes Blade even higher. This set is farmed from a new Snezhnaya artifact domain added in Version 7.0. Using two-piece ATK% sets is about 11% behind the full four-piece in damage output.

4-Piece Heart Of The Furnace — Best For Stellar Swirl / Support Role

Heart of the Furnace is the best option when Cryo Traveler is playing in Stellar Swirl teams or as the off-field enabler substitute for Odette. The four-piece provides a team-wide 50% Stellar Glimmer DMG buff and a 12% personal ATK bonus after triggering Stellar reactions — and it works even when the Traveler is off-field, matching their off-field Frostpierce Star playstyle. This set turns Cryo Traveler into a meaningful support piece rather than just a damage dealer. Note that this buff does not stack from multiple wearers — if Odette or Alyosha already runs Heart of the Furnace in your team, switch to a different set.

4-Piece Tenacity Of The Millelith — Support Alternative

If Odette is in the team and both she and Alyosha already hold Heart of the Furnace, Tenacity of the Millelith is a useful alternative for Cryo Traveler. The four-piece grants all nearby party members +20% ATK whenever the Traveler’s Elemental Skill hits an opponent. The Frostpierce Star fires Cryo crystals every two seconds in Stellar Swirl mode, so this effect has relatively good uptime off-field. The 20% team ATK bonus benefits Odette’s buff scaling, Alyosha’s healing, and every other ATK-scaling character in the party.

    2-Piece ATK% + 2-Piece ATK% (Transition Set)

While farming for full four-piece sets, combining two different two-piece sets that each provide 18% ATK gives 36% ATK total. This is readily available from older artifact domains most players already have stocked. It performs around 11% below the four-piece Disenchantment in Deep Shadow in Stellar-Conduct, but is a viable starting point until proper pieces are farmed.

    Cryo Traveler Talent Priority

    • Elemental Burst (Frostbound Javelin) — Level first: This is the biggest single hit in the Cryo Traveler’s kit. It deals direct Stellar reaction damage amplified by all Frostglow stacks consumed, and in both Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl, it is the most important damage source. Always upgrade this first.
    • Normal Attack (Foreign Frostglint) — Level second: In Stellar-Conduct mode, the Traveler’s Normal Attacks deal Cryo damage enhanced by the Frostpierce Star and scale with ATK. The special Freezing Ice Charged Attack is also a direct Stellar hit, so leveling Normal Attacks improves both the regular rotation and the special CA hit every 15 seconds.
    • Elemental Skill (Ice Fog Piercer) — Level last: The Skill primarily functions to summon the Frostpierce Star and build Frostglow stacks. Its direct damage is minimal and does not deal Stellar damage — leveling it provides little return. Keep it at level 1–6 unless you have nothing else to upgrade.

    Cryo Traveler Constellation Guide

Cryo Traveler’s constellations provide incremental improvements. The overall gain from C0 to C6 is approximately 14% extra team damage, making investment worthwhile but not urgent. Three constellations stand out above the rest.

C1 — Somber Freeze (High Priority, Quality of Life)

Whenever Cryo Traveler deals Stellar damage (through the Burst or Charged Attack), they restore 5 Elemental Energy every 0.5 seconds. In practice, the Burst and Charged Attack hit multiple times, restoring roughly 10 Energy just from those two moves each rotation. This essentially makes Cryo Traveler’s Burst self-sustaining — at C1, you can drop Energy Recharge substats almost entirely and redirect those slots into CRIT or ATK. A significant quality-of-life upgrade that pays for itself in artifact flexibility.

C3 — Glacial Shard (Good Damage Upgrade)

Increases the Elemental Burst talent level by 3, pushing it from level 10 to level 13. Since the Burst is the Cryo Traveler’s primary damage source, each talent level carries meaningful multiplier growth. A direct personal damage improvement of around 3.4% team DPS.

C6 — Brumal Grimfrost (Best Overall, Team Buff)

After using the Elemental Burst, each Frostglow stack consumed grants 5% Stellar DMG Bonus to all party members for 15 seconds — up to 40% Stellar DMG if all 8 stacks are consumed. At 8 stacks, this becomes a powerful team-wide Stellar reaction damage buff that benefits every character in both Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl teams. C6 is the biggest power spike in the constellation list, adding approximately 9% team DPS on top of all previous nodes. It is the ultimate investment goal for the Cryo Traveler.

    Other Constellations

C2 grants the on-field character 60 EM (or 120 EM during Stellar reactions) when the Frostpierce Star’s crystals hit enemies — useful in Stellar Swirl teams but provides no change in Stellar-Conduct mode. C4 extends the Frostpierce Star’s duration, improving Heart of the Furnace uptime in off-field builds. C5 increases Elemental Skill talent level — the weakest constellation for most rotations.

    Cryo Traveler Rotation Guide

    Stellar-Conduct On-Field Rotation

The goal is to build 8 Frostglow stacks before using the Burst, then use the special Freezing Ice Charged Attack once every 15 seconds for its Stellar hit.

    • Rotate supports: Yae Miko EEE → Alyosha E Q → Odette E
    • Enter as Cryo Traveler: Elemental Skill → Normal Attack x4–5 → Freezing Ice Charged Attack → continue Normal Attacking until 8 stacks → Elemental Burst
    • Swap back to supports and repeat

    Stellar Swirl Off-Field Rotation

In Stellar Swirl teams, Cryo Traveler plays as a quick-swap sub-DPS. The goal is to cast Skill for the off-field turret, land the Charged Attack and Burst, then hand the field back to Mizuki.

    • Odette E E → Sucrose N1 E Q → Cryo Traveler E CA Q → Yumemizuki Mizuki E
    • In the first rotation, use the Cryo Traveler’s Skill early to activate artifact set effects from the start
    • Total Cryo Traveler field time per rotation: roughly 5–8 seconds

    Is Cryo Traveler Worth Building?

Yes — and it is one of the best free investments in Version 7.0. The Cryo Traveler is automatically available to every player, requires no wishes, and comes with a free 5-star best-in-slot weapon that upgrades just by exploring Snezhnaya. Computations show the Cryo Traveler at R1 Exaiphanes Blade sitting at 94% of R5 performance — and the gap closes substantially as you upgrade the sword at each Statue of the Seven.

In Stellar-Conduct teams, the Cryo Traveler is a genuinely competitive on-field DPS. In Stellar Swirl teams, they add a meaningful damage contribution as a quick-swap sub-DPS while freeing the main Anemo driver’s field time. Either way, building the Cryo Traveler is straightforward — get the Exaiphanes Blade, farm Disenchantment in Deep Shadow from the new Snezhnaya domain, and stack ATK and CRIT. For everything about which teams to run them in, our best Cryo Traveler teams guide covers every option.
