The best Stellar Swirl teams in Genshin Impact are built around one core idea: get a Stellar Linchpin enabler in your party, pair Cryo with Anemo, and keep hitting the enemy to stack and detonate the Stellar Vortex for big Cryo damage. Stellar Swirl is one of the two new Stellar Glimmer reactions introduced in Version 7.0 alongside Snezhnaya, and it is a serious upgrade over ordinary Cryo Swirl. Unlike most reactions, Stellar Swirl can critically hit, making it one of the most damage-dense reactions in the game when played correctly.
Version 7.1 expanded Stellar Swirl significantly, adding two new characters — Vesna and Vodyanitsa — who push the reaction further, a dedicated new 5-star weapon, a bug fix that increases Stellar Swirl damage across the board, and a new Spiral Abyss blessing. All teams and tier rankings below reflect the 7.1 state of the game.
If you are just getting started with Snezhnaya reactions, our Stellar Glimmer reaction guide explains both Stellar Swirl and Stellar-Conduct in detail. And if you are exploring Snezhnaya while building these teams, our Sorrowful Jack Frost guide is a quick chest grab worth adding to your session.
TL;DR — Best Stellar Swirl Teams Quick Summary
- Stellar Swirl is triggered by Cryo + Anemo with a Stellar Linchpin enabler in the party
- Every Stellar Swirl spawns a Stellar Vortex that detonates for Cryo damage after a delay
- Stacking more Swirls before the Vortex explodes deals significantly more damage — aim for level 3
- Stellar Swirl can CRIT — unlike most reactions, it scales with both Elemental Mastery and CRIT stats
- Version 7.1 bug fix: Cryo characters are now correctly included in Stellar Swirl damage calculations — pre-7.1 damage tests are no longer accurate
- Stellar Linchpin enablers: Odette, Cryo Traveler, Sandrone (7.0) and Vesna (7.1 — new)
- Best enabler: Odette — off-field Cryo, buffs the reaction, and deals Stellar Swirl damage herself
- Best Anemo driver: Vesna (7.1) or Mizuki — both stay on-field and deal massive Stellar Swirl damage
- Best new 7.1 support: Vodyanitsa — off-field Hydro healer who shreds Anemo, Cryo, and Hydro RES and buffs Stellar Swirl damage
- Best support picks: Vodyanitsa, Diona (C6 for EM buff), Qiqi (healing + Cryo), Sucrose (EM share), Faruzan (Anemo RES shred)
- Teams need one enabler, one Cryo body, one Anemo driver, and one flex support
Version 7.1 Changes To Stellar Swirl
Version 7.1 launched on September 23, 2026, and brought several meaningful changes to the Stellar Swirl ecosystem. Here is everything that changed:
- Bug fix — Cryo characters now count correctly: A bug where Stellar Swirl damage could occasionally fail to include Cryo characters involved in the reaction in its calculations has been fixed. Every Stellar Swirl damage number recorded before 7.1 was measured against broken behavior. All pre-7.1 tests should be discarded and teams re-evaluated under the corrected calculations.
- New enabler — Vesna (5-star Anemo Sword): Vesna is a new Stellar Linchpin character who converts Cryo Swirl into Stellar Swirl via an Anemo Linchpin rather than a standard Vision. She is the first limited Anemo main DPS built specifically around Stellar Swirl, and her Spirit Blade attacks count as Stellar Swirl reaction damage when a Vortex is nearby.
- New support — Vodyanitsa (5-star Hydro Catalyst): Vodyanitsa is an off-field Hydro healer and buffer. Her Elemental Skill shreds Anemo, Cryo, and Hydro resistance, heals the active character, and transforms active Stellar Vortices into Wandering Vortices that deal additional Stellar Swirl damage. She works in Stellar Swirl teams despite being a Hydro character, and her kit is strongest when paired with Vesna.
- New 5-star Sword — Beyond the Chrysalis: Vesna’s signature weapon. Cycles through CRIT DMG, Stellar Swirl DMG, and Energy Refund buffs in sequence, with all effects enhanced when a nearby party member triggers a Frozen or Stellar Swirl reaction. Designed specifically for on-field Anemo Stellar Swirl DPS.
- New 5-star Catalyst — Hymn of the Maelstrom: Vodyanitsa’s signature weapon. An HP-based support Catalyst whose Max HP and ATK buffs are further enhanced after a nearby party member triggers Frozen or Stellar Swirl. Fits any off-field healer in a Stellar Swirl team.
- New Spiral Abyss Blessing — Stardread Moon: The 7.1 Blessing of the Abyssal Moon introduces shockwaves when players trigger or deal damage from Superconduct, Stellar-Conduct, Cryo Swirl, Stellar Swirl, Frozen, or Shatter. Stellar Swirl teams benefit directly and are among the strongest options for 7.1 Abyss clears.
What Is Stellar Swirl In Genshin Impact?
Stellar Swirl is one of the two new Stellar Glimmer reactions introduced in Genshin Impact Version 7.0. It replaces the ordinary Cryo Swirl reaction when a character with a Stellar Linchpin passive is present in the party. The other Stellar Glimmer reaction is Stellar-Conduct, which upgrades Superconduct using Cryo and Electro.
When Stellar Swirl is triggered — by applying Anemo to a Cryo-affected enemy, or Cryo to an Anemo-affected enemy — two things happen immediately. First, the reaction deals an instance of Anemo damage to the target. Second, a Stellar Vortex spawns at the enemy’s location. The Vortex sits on the field for several seconds and then detonates, dealing AoE Cryo damage.
The key mechanic is Vortex leveling. Every additional Stellar Swirl you trigger before the Vortex detonates increases its level and power. At level 3, the Vortex grows in size and deals significantly more damage. Triggering six Swirls causes the Vortex to detonate immediately at full power. This is what separates Stellar Swirl from all previous reactions — sustained rapid reaction application builds directly into one explosive moment.
Critically, Stellar Swirl can land CRIT hits. The Vortex’s damage scales with Elemental Mastery, CRIT Rate, and CRIT DMG, making stat investment directly rewarding in a way that most reactions have never been.
The Stellar Vortex also has an exploration use: when it detonates, nearby characters receive a brief jump height boost — handy for reaching elevated platforms in Snezhnaya. Play Genshin Impact on the official website or download it on Android, iOS, PlayStation, Epic Games, or Xbox.
How To Trigger Stellar Swirl
Three conditions must all be true at once for Stellar Swirl to trigger:
- A character with a Stellar Linchpin passive must be in the active party
- An enemy must be affected by either Cryo or Anemo
- You must apply the opposite element — Anemo to a Cryo-marked enemy, or Cryo to an Anemo-marked enemy
Enemies that naturally carry a Cryo aura are especially easy to use — applying Anemo to them is enough to trigger Stellar Swirl immediately without a dedicated Cryo applicator. This makes Snezhnaya’s native Cryo-aligned enemies very convenient targets for Stellar Swirl teams.
Stellar Swirl Enablers — Who Can Enable The Reaction
As of Version 7.1, four characters carry the Stellar Linchpin passive that converts Cryo Swirl into Stellar Swirl. One of these must be in your party or the reaction will not trigger, no matter what elements you combine.
Vesna (New In 7.1 — Best On-Field DPS Enabler)
Vesna is the 5-star Anemo Sword character added in Version 7.1 and the strongest on-field Stellar Swirl DPS in the game. Unlike the other enablers, Vesna carries an Anemo Stellar Linchpin rather than a standard Vision, which means she enables the reaction through the Anemo side of the equation. Her Elemental Skill puts her into the Armed for Action state, converting her attacks to Anemo damage and summoning Spirit Blades. When a Stellar Vortex is nearby, those Spirit Blade strikes count as direct Stellar Swirl reaction damage, giving her unusually high personal contribution to the Vortex. Her ATK stat also adds flat base damage to the Stellar Swirl reaction. Vesna is the best choice for players who want their Anemo DPS slot and their enabler slot to be the same character.
Odette (Best Off-Field Enabler)
Odette is the 5-star Cryo sword character released as the Version 7.0 banner unit and the top choice for off-field Stellar Swirl enabling. Her Solo Dance Double mechanic applies off-field Cryo continuously, meaning she feeds the reaction even when she is not on the field. She not only enables the reaction but also deals direct Stellar Swirl damage herself and buffs the reaction’s power for the entire party. Running Odette gives you enabling, off-field Cryo application, personal damage, and team buffs all in one slot — an exceptional value that remains unchanged in 7.1.
Cryo Traveler (Best Free Option)
The Cryo Traveler is available to every player for free the moment they reach a Snezhnaya Statue of the Seven and resonate with Cryo. As a Stellar Linchpin character, the Traveler can enable Stellar Swirl independently without needing Odette, Vesna, or Sandrone in the party. The Cryo Traveler works both as an on-field DPS and as an off-field Burst DPS, giving flexibility in how you build the team around it. Paired with the Exaiphanes Blade — the free 5-star sword from Version 7.0 — the Cryo Traveler becomes a competitive damage dealer in its own right.
Sandrone (On-Field DPS Enabler)
Sandrone can also enable Stellar Swirl through her Radiance: Stellar Swirl passive, but she is primarily an on-field DPS who wants to stay active. Her enabling role works best when paired with an off-field Cryo applicator like Odette or Qiqi, since Sandrone herself does not supply consistent Cryo from off the field.
Best Cryo Characters For Stellar Swirl Teams
The Cryo slot feeds the element that Anemo swirls. Your enabler can fill this role by themselves, but adding a dedicated Cryo support gives more consistent application and often adds team buffs or healing on top.
- Odette — The top pick for enabling and off-field Cryo; buffs the reaction and deals Stellar Swirl damage. Best-in-slot for most teams.
- Cryo Traveler — Free, flexible, and effective. Slots in over either Odette or Qiqi in many comps with competitive results.
- Qiqi — Qiqi is a Standard Banner healer who provides steady off-field Cryo and sustain. Pairs naturally with Odette when you need both Cryo and healing. See also our Qiqi Stellar Conduct build guide.
- Diona — At C6, Diona is one of the strongest budget picks in Stellar Swirl. Her C6 ability grants the entire team bonus Elemental Mastery inside her Burst field, which directly boosts Vortex damage. She also shields and heals.
- Wriothesley — Wriothesley works as a main DPS Cryo enabler with self-sustain, suited for comps where the Anemo character plays off-field instead.
- Ganyu — Ganyu covers both main DPS and sub-DPS roles, increases team Cryo damage, and applies Cryo on-field and off-field. A strong option when you need a second Cryo body for resonance.
- Shenhe — Shenhe is a Cryo buffer who amplifies Cryo damage for the whole team and strengthens the Vortex’s detonation.
Best Anemo Characters For Stellar Swirl Teams
The Anemo slot is what triggers the reaction. In most Stellar Swirl teams, the Anemo character is either the main DPS driver or an off-field utility piece. The faster and more consistently they apply Anemo, the more Swirls you stack before the Vortex detonates.
- Vesna (new in 7.1) — The new premier on-field Anemo DPS for Stellar Swirl. Her Spirit Blades count as Stellar Swirl reaction damage when a Vortex is active, her ATK scales the reaction directly, and her Stellar Linchpin enables the whole team. She competes directly with Mizuki for the on-field driver slot, with Vesna edging ahead in teams that can support her Skill-centric rotation.
- Mizuki (Yumemizuki Mizuki) — Still a top on-field Anemo DPS for Stellar Swirl and the best free option since she is available as a standard banner character. After her Version 7.0 Witch’s Revelation buffs, Mizuki deals massive direct Stellar Swirl damage scaled by Elemental Mastery and CRIT. Her kit is designed around staying on-field and continuously triggering Swirls. See our Mizuki Stellar Swirl build guide for full details.
- Kaedehara Kazuha — Kazuha is an excellent off-field Anemo enabler who shreds Cryo resistance when holding Viridescent Venerer and buffs team Elemental Mastery with his passive. Great support piece that frees the main DPS slot for a different driver.
- Venti — Venti is a strong off-field Anemo support, especially in Sandrone Stellar Swirl teams where his Burst provides valuable Energy Refund. Crowd control and enemy grouping are added bonuses.
- Sucrose — Sucrose shares Elemental Mastery with the whole team and applies Anemo on demand. A core support in most Stellar Swirl comps — she feeds both the Vortex scaling and team damage at the same time.
- Xiao — Xiao works as an on-field Anemo DPS in Stellar Swirl when paired with off-field Cryo enablers.
- Wanderer — Wanderer is another on-field Anemo main DPS option who can trigger Swirls consistently during his Elemental Skill hover state.
- Faruzan — Faruzan shreds enemy Anemo resistance, which amplifies all Stellar Swirl Anemo damage and Vortex detonations. Essential in teams where an Anemo main DPS is the primary driver.
Best Supports For Stellar Swirl Teams (7.1)
Version 7.1 added Vodyanitsa as a dedicated Stellar Swirl support, and she slots into virtually every team that can accommodate Hydro. Here is the full support tier as of 7.1:
- Vodyanitsa (new in 7.1 — top support pick): A 5-star Hydro Catalyst off-field healer who shreds Anemo, Cryo, and Hydro resistance simultaneously, heals the active character based on her Max HP, and converts active Stellar Vortices into Wandering Vortices that deal additional Stellar Swirl reaction damage. Her kit is strongest in Vesna teams but also works with Mizuki, Sandrone, and other Stellar Swirl drivers. At C2 she adds 50% Hydro/Cryo CRIT DMG (60% to Stellar Swirl) and extends her Skill duration by 9 seconds. Be careful not to over-stack Hydro in teams where the Cryo aura on enemies matters for triggering Swirls.
- Sucrose — EM sharing and extra Anemo application. A core pick in most comps, now also benefits from the 7.1 bug fix making her Swirl contributions more impactful.
- Faruzan — Anemo RES shred. Mandatory in any team where Vesna or Mizuki is the on-field DPS driver.
- Diona (C6) — EM buff inside her Burst field plus healing and shielding. Best free/low-investment support option for budget teams.
- Qiqi — Off-field Cryo and healing for teams without Vodyanitsa’s sustain.
Team Roles In Stellar Swirl Comps
Every strong Stellar Swirl team follows the same four-slot structure. Understanding each role helps you swap characters in and out without breaking the reaction loop.
- Enabler (required): Odette, Cryo Traveler, Sandrone, or Vesna (7.1). Converts Cryo Swirl to Stellar Swirl. One must always be present.
- Main DPS / Driver: The character who stays on the field and triggers Swirls most often. Usually either the Anemo or the Cryo character. Vesna, Mizuki, Wanderer, Xiao, Sandrone, Wriothesley, or Cryo Traveler.
- Off-Field Enabler: Applies the missing element from off the field so the on-field DPS can keep triggering the reaction. Odette, Qiqi, Kazuha, Fischl, or a second Cryo/Anemo unit.
- Flex Support: Healing, shielding, Elemental Mastery buffs, resistance shred, or damage buffs. Vodyanitsa (7.1 — top pick), Sucrose, Diona, Faruzan, or any sustain character that fits your roster.
Either the Cryo or the Anemo character takes the main DPS role, while the other fills the off-field enabler slot. You do not need both to be on the field at the same time — consistent off-field application is enough to keep the reaction looping.
Best Stellar Swirl Team Compositions
Team 1 — Vesna Core (Best Overall In 7.1)
Vesna / Odette / Cryo Traveler / Vodyanitsa
The strongest Stellar Swirl team in Version 7.1. Vesna stays on-field and deals Stellar Swirl damage directly through her Spirit Blades whenever the Vortex is active. Odette enables the reaction and applies off-field Cryo via her Dance Double while buffing the Vortex. The Cryo Traveler keeps reactions firing as a secondary Cryo source and maintains Cryo Resonance for a free 15% CRIT Rate. Vodyanitsa covers healing from off-field, shreds Anemo, Cryo, and Hydro resistance simultaneously, and turns Stellar Vortices into Wandering Vortices for extra damage. Together, these four activate every part of Vodyanitsa’s kit at once and keep Vesna supplied with both the Cryo aura she needs and the resistance shred her Anemo damage benefits from.
Team 2 — Mizuki Core (Best For Players Without Vesna)
Mizuki / Odette / Vodyanitsa / Sucrose
The strongest Stellar Swirl team for players who do not own Vesna. Mizuki drives on-field and triggers Swirls continuously. Odette enables the reaction, applies off-field Cryo through her Dance Double, and buffs the Vortex. Vodyanitsa replaces Qiqi in the 7.0 version of this team, adding her resistance shred and Wandering Vortex conversion on top of the healing. Sucrose stacks Elemental Mastery across the team and adds more Anemo application. This team performs nearly as well as the Vesna core and is significantly more accessible for standard banner players.
Team 3 — Sandrone Stellar Swirl
Sandrone / Odette / Yae Miko / Vodyanitsa
Sandrone stays on-field and enables Stellar Swirl via her Radiance state. Odette provides off-field Cryo and Stellar buffs. Yae Miko adds off-field Electro for a secondary Stellar-Conduct layer on top of the Swirl. Vodyanitsa replaces Sucrose in the 7.0 version of this team, providing resistance shred and healing with her Wandering Vortex passive also activating in this comp. This team layers two Stellar reactions simultaneously and benefits from Vodyanitsa’s triple RES shred across all the damage types involved.
Team 4 — Cryo Traveler F2P Team
Cryo Traveler / Fischl / Sucrose / Diona (C6)
A completely F2P-friendly Stellar Swirl team that does not require any limited 5-star characters. The Cryo Traveler enables the reaction and serves as main DPS with the Exaiphanes Blade. Fischl provides reliable off-field Electro for Stellar-Conduct. Sucrose shares Elemental Mastery. Diona at C6 gives the team a significant EM boost inside her Burst field, directly increasing Vortex damage. Diona also heals and shields. This team is unchanged from 7.0 and remains the recommended F2P starting point.
Team 5 — Wriothesley Driver
Wriothesley / Yae Miko / Odette / Sucrose
Wriothesley takes the main DPS on-field role with self-sustain built into his kit. Odette enables and applies off-field Cryo. Yae Miko handles off-field Electro application for Stellar-Conduct overlap. Sucrose provides Elemental Mastery buffs and Anemo triggering. Wriothesley’s high personal damage combined with Stellar Swirl and Stellar-Conduct layering makes this a strong alternative for players who own him. Note that Vodyanitsa can replace Sucrose here if you own her and want to add resistance shred and healing.
Team 6 — Double Cryo Resonance Budget
Cryo Traveler / Odette / Kazuha / Diona (C6)
A powerful budget team centered on Cryo Resonance. Two Cryo characters (Cryo Traveler and Odette) provide Cryo Resonance for a CRIT Rate boost. Kazuha triggers Swirls and shreds Cryo resistance with Viridescent Venerer. Diona at C6 caps off the team with an Elemental Mastery buff and sustain. This team is highly accessible and performs well across most content.
Layering Stellar-Conduct On Top Of Stellar Swirl
Because the same Stellar Linchpin characters that convert Cryo Swirl also convert Superconduct, you can run both Stellar reactions in the same team by adding an Electro character. Yae Miko and Fischl are the most popular choices since both apply Electro reliably off-field without taking field time away from your driver.
With this setup, a single enemy gets hit by both a Stellar Vortex from Swirl and the Stellar-Conduct damage layer from Superconduct. Keep positioning tight so the enemy stays inside both zones. The combined damage output is significantly higher than running either reaction alone. Our Cyno Stellar Conduct build is also worth a look if you want a dedicated Electro piece that thrives in mixed reaction teams.
Key Stats To Build For Stellar Swirl
Because Stellar Swirl can CRIT, it responds to the same investment as direct damage characters — unlike most reactions. The Stellar Vortex’s detonation damage records stats from all characters who contributed Swirls before it explodes, weighting more heavily toward the character with the best combination of Elemental Mastery, CRIT Rate, and CRIT DMG. Note: the 7.1 bug fix means Cryo characters now contribute correctly to this calculation, so builds that previously undervalued Cryo-side investment should be revisited.
- Elemental Mastery: The primary scaling stat for the Vortex. Stack as much as possible on your main driver.
- CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG: Directly increase Vortex detonation damage. Unlike standard Swirl, investing in CRIT for your Anemo DPS is worthwhile.
- Anemo DMG Bonus: Increases the initial Anemo hit from each Swirl trigger. Note that for Vesna specifically, ATK scales her passive Stellar Swirl bonus rather than Anemo DMG%, so do not put Anemo DMG% on her goblet — use ATK%.
- Artifact set — Scarlet Proof: The dedicated set that boosts CRIT Rate and Stellar Swirl damage. Run it on your main Stellar Swirl DPS (Vesna or Mizuki).
- New weapon — Beyond the Chrysalis (5-star Sword): Vesna’s signature weapon cycles CRIT DMG, Stellar Swirl DMG, and Energy Refund buffs in sequence, with all bonuses enhanced after a nearby party member triggers Stellar Swirl. Best-in-slot for Vesna.
Tips For Playing Stellar Swirl Teams
- Stack the Vortex before it detonates — the first Swirl is not the damage spike. Keep applying Cryo and Anemo to build Vortex levels before the blast lands.
- Keep positioning tight — all Swirls need to land on the same enemy for the Vortex to level up. Spreading attacks across multiple targets resets the stacking.
- Six Swirls force early detonation — if you trigger six Stellar Swirls while the Vortex is active, it detonates immediately at full power. Use this for burst windows.
- Use Sucrose for EM sharing — Sucrose’s Elemental Mastery sharing passive benefits all Cryo and Anemo characters in the team, amplifying Vortex scaling for everyone.
- Hold Viridescent Venerer on an off-field Anemo support — shredding Cryo resistance on the enemy makes the Vortex detonation deal noticeably more damage.
- Cryo Resonance for free CRIT Rate — running two Cryo characters gives the whole team a 15% CRIT Rate buff. Easy to achieve when Odette and Qiqi or Cryo Traveler are both in the lineup.
- Enemies with a natural Cryo aura are ideal targets — applying Anemo alone triggers Stellar Swirl immediately without needing to pre-apply Cryo yourself.
- Be careful with Vodyanitsa’s Hydro in Stellar Swirl teams — her off-field Hydro application is useful for sustain, but over-stacking Hydro can steal the Cryo aura from enemies, preventing Stellar Swirl from triggering. Keep her Skill application moderate and prioritize Cryo coverage first.
- Discard pre-7.1 Stellar Swirl damage tests — the 7.1 bug fix corrects how Cryo characters are counted in the Vortex damage calculation. Benchmarks taken before September 23, 2026 do not reflect current behavior.
