Who Is Kaedehara Kazuha in Genshin Impact?
Kaedehara Kazuha is a 5-star Anemo character in Genshin Impact. He wields a Sword and comes from Inazuma, where he was once a member of the prestigious Kaedehara Clan — a family of swordsmanship lineage. Now a wandering samurai, he travels with Liyue’s famous Crux Fleet under Captain Beidou, having fled Inazuma after a conflict with the Shogun’s forces. His constellation is Acer Palmatum — the Japanese maple tree, whose red autumn leaves are a recurring motif in his design and personality.
In combat, Kazuha is one of the most universally useful support characters ever released in Genshin Impact. His Elemental Skill provides crowd control through enemy grouping, his A4 passive (Poetics of Fuubutsu) grants teammates a powerful Elemental DMG Bonus based on his Elemental Mastery, and his Viridescent Venerer artifact set provides 40% Elemental RES shred on Swirled elements. This combination of grouping, resistance shred, and percentage damage buffing makes him a universal amplifier who improves virtually every team he joins. He remains one of the highest-usage characters in Spiral Abyss across all versions since his release.

Kaedehara Kazuha’s Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- Near-universal team fit — Kazuha slots into Vaporize, Freeze, Melt, Electro-Charged, Bloom, Aggravate, Mono Hydro, and virtually any non-Geo, non-Anemo reaction team. His buffing is element-agnostic as long as enemies can be Swirled.
- Unique Elemental DMG Bonus buff from A4 passive — Poetics of Fuubutsu grants 0.04% Elemental DMG Bonus per point of his EM for each element he absorbs through Swirl. At 1000 EM, this translates to 40% Elemental DMG Bonus for the corresponding element — one of the largest single-source buff values available from any support.
- 40% Elemental RES shred from Viridescent Venerer — This is a permanent resistance reduction on Swirled elements, available for 10 seconds after each Swirl proc. Kazuha can maintain this shred reliably through his Skill and Burst.
- Excellent crowd control — His Elemental Skill pulls enemies toward a point and launches them, and his Burst creates a sustained AoE field. This makes him invaluable in multi-target content where enemies need to be grouped for AoE DPS to function efficiently.
- Short rotation time — His full support rotation takes about 3–5 seconds, leaving most of the rotation for the on-field DPS character.
- Stamina saving passive — His utility passive reduces sprint Stamina consumption for all party members, a small but genuinely useful exploration benefit.
Weaknesses
- Burst is not always desirable — His Burst can absorb elements from enemies or the environment and infuse his field with that element, potentially disrupting the Elemental Reaction setup of certain teams. In some compositions, avoiding his Burst entirely is the optimal choice.
- Less effective in Geo, Dendro, or Pure Anemo teams — His buffing relies on Swirling non-Anemo elements. In teams where no coloured element is present to Swirl, Viridescent Venerer provides no resistance shred and his A4 passive cannot trigger. He is noticeably weaker in these contexts.
- Limited banner only — Kazuha is a limited 5-star and can only be obtained when his Event Wish is active.
- High EM requirement for peak performance — While he functions at lower EM levels, his A4 passive buff scales linearly with EM. Reaching the 900–1000+ EM target requires deliberate farming and EM-focused artifact rolls.
Kaedehara Kazuha’s Abilities and Talents
Normal Attack – Garyuu Bladework
Kazuha performs up to five rapid sword strikes. His Charged Attack consumes Stamina for two quick slashes. His Plunging Attack deals AoE damage on landing, and after using his Elemental Skill, he performs a special Plunging Attack called Midare Ranzan that deals AoE Anemo damage — and absorbs nearby elements to deal additional damage of the absorbed type. Normal Attacks are rarely used in his support rotation and are the lowest talent priority.
Elemental Skill – Chihayaburu
Kazuha concentrates the power of the Anemo element and unleashes it in two different ways depending on input.
- Press: Kazuha creates a small wind current that pulls nearby enemies toward him, then launches himself skyward. He can then use Midare Ranzan (a special Plunging Attack) to slam down and deal AoE Anemo damage on landing. If the Plunging Attack makes contact with Pyro, Hydro, Cryo, or Electro, it absorbs that element and deals additional damage of that type via Elemental Absorption.
- Hold: A longer charge version that deals more damage, pulls enemies from further away, and generates more Elemental Particles for Energy. Always use the Hold version in serious combat for superior grouping and particle generation.
After each Skill use, Kazuha generates Anemo particles that help charge his Burst. The Skill is the trigger for his A1 and A4 passives and is the core action of his rotation.
Elemental Burst – Kazuha Slash
Kazuha unleashes a single slash of enormous force and creates an Autumn Whirlwind field at the slash’s epicentre that continuously deals AoE Anemo damage. If the slash or the field makes contact with Pyro, Hydro, Cryo, or Electro, the field absorbs that element and deals additional damage of the absorbed type throughout its duration. The Burst has an 60 Energy cost and a 15-second cooldown with a 8-second field duration. In many teams, Kazuha uses his Skill for the primary A4 passive trigger and Swirl, while his Burst is used selectively — or sometimes skipped entirely — to avoid unintended elemental absorption that could disrupt reaction setups.
Passive Talents
- Soumon Swordsmanship (A1) — When Chihayaburu comes into contact with another element during Midare Ranzan, Elemental Absorption occurs and Kazuha’s Plunging Attack deals additional damage of that element type, equal to 200% of his ATK. This adds a direct damage component to his Skill’s Plunging Attack when he absorbs an element — meaningful in damage builds but incidental in pure support play.
- Poetics of Fuubutsu (A4 — Core Buff Passive) — Upon triggering a Swirl reaction, Kazuha grants all nearby party members a bonus to the element that was Swirled equal to 0.04% of his Elemental Mastery for 8 seconds. For example, if he Swirls Pyro, all party members gain a Pyro DMG Bonus equal to 0.04% × his EM. At 1000 EM, this is a 40% Pyro DMG Bonus for the entire team. Multiple elements can be buffed simultaneously if different elements are absorbed in separate Swirls. This is the single most important aspect of building Kazuha — every point of EM directly translates into team damage.
- Cloud Strider (Utility) — Decreases sprinting Stamina consumption of all party members by 20%. Not stackable with other passive talents providing the same effect. A nice open-world exploration benefit.
Best Weapons for Kaedehara Kazuha
Kazuha’s weapon priority is Elemental Mastery first, Energy Recharge second, then anything else. Since his buffing scales with EM, weapons that provide high EM directly improve his team support output. ER weapons help maintain Burst uptime. CRIT stat weapons are much lower priority except in dedicated sub-DPS builds.
Best 5-Star Weapons
- Freedom-Sworn (Best in Slot) — Kazuha’s most synergistic 5-star weapon. It provides Elemental Mastery as a substat — the single most valuable stat for his kit — and a passive called Revolutionary Chorale. This passive stacks Sigils by triggering reactions, and when two Sigils are accumulated, it grants all party members a 16% Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack DMG bonus and a 20% ATK bonus for 12 seconds. Because Kazuha triggers Swirl reactions constantly, he accumulates Sigils rapidly and provides these team-wide buffs on top of his A4 Elemental DMG Bonus. The combination of EM stat and team ATK buff makes this his definitive best weapon.
- Primordial Jade Cutter — Provides CRIT Rate and an ATK bonus from Max HP. Not his top choice for a support build since CRIT Rate does not directly amplify his team buffing, but works well in hybrid builds where his personal damage is also valued.
- Light of Foliar Incision — Provides CRIT Rate and boosts Normal Attack and Elemental Skill damage. Better for sub-DPS Kazuha builds than pure support.
Best 4-Star Weapons
- Favonius Sword (Best 4-Star) — Provides Energy Recharge and a passive that generates Elemental Particles for the entire team on CRIT hits. While it does not provide EM, the ER substat helps Kazuha maintain Burst uptime and the team-wide particle generation from the passive benefits Energy-hungry teammates significantly. The consensus best 4-star for Kazuha in most team compositions where Burst uptime is important.
- Xiphos’ Moonlight — Provides Elemental Mastery and converts a portion of EM into Energy Recharge for the wielder and all party members. The EM directly buffs his A4 passive, and the ER conversion reduces the need for ER substats. A strong all-in-one option for players who want both stats covered from one weapon slot.
- Iron Sting (Craftable) — Provides Elemental Mastery and a passive that increases all elemental damage after landing an elemental hit. While the passive applies to Kazuha’s personal damage rather than boosting teammates, the EM substat directly benefits his A4 passive. The best craftable option for his support role.
- Sacrificial Sword — Energy Recharge substat with a passive that has a chance to reset the Elemental Skill cooldown. Allows Kazuha to use his Skill twice per rotation in some scenarios, generating more particles and applying the A4 passive buff more frequently. Useful when Burst uptime is critical and you need double particle generation.
Best Artifacts for Kaedehara Kazuha
Kazuha’s artifact choice is unusually straightforward — Viridescent Venerer is his uncontested best-in-slot for his support role, and no other set competes with it in the vast majority of teams he belongs in.
Viridescent Venerer (4-Piece) — Permanent Best in Slot
The 2-piece bonus increases Swirl damage by 15% and Anemo DMG by 15%. The 4-piece bonus provides two effects: Swirl damage is increased by 60%, and after triggering a Swirl reaction, the enemy’s resistance to the element that was Swirled is reduced by 40% for 10 seconds. This 40% elemental resistance shred is one of the most powerful team damage amplifications available from a single artifact set. When Kazuha Swirls Pyro, all Pyro damage dealt by the team against that enemy is amplified via the resistance reduction. Kazuha can consistently apply and maintain this resistance shred through his Skill and Burst across every rotation. No other support has access to this level of resistance reduction for non-Anemo elements, which is why Kazuha remains indispensable in most reaction teams.
Other Setups (Rare Alternatives)
In teams where another Anemo character already holds Viridescent Venerer — which is uncommon since Kazuha is typically the preferred VV holder — a 4-piece Noblesse Oblige can provide a team ATK buff after his Burst activation. A 2-piece EM + 2-piece EM combination (e.g. Wanderer’s Troupe + Gilded Dreams) stacks more Elemental Mastery for his A4 passive in teams where VV is covered. These are edge-case scenarios for most players and the default recommendation remains Viridescent Venerer in almost every situation.
Recommended Artifact Main Stats
- Sands: Elemental Mastery (always — EM is his most valuable stat)
- Goblet: Elemental Mastery (always — EM is his most valuable stat)
- Circlet: Elemental Mastery (always — EM is his most valuable stat)
Triple EM main stats is the standard and correct build for Kazuha as a support. There is no exception to this in his support role.
Recommended Substats
Energy Recharge is the first substat priority — aim for 160–180% ER in most teams to maintain Burst uptime every rotation. After meeting the ER threshold, stack Elemental Mastery in every remaining substat slot possible. A target of 900–1000+ EM is the goal for maximising his A4 passive’s Elemental DMG Bonus buff. CRIT Rate in small amounts is useful for triggering Favonius Sword if using that weapon, but is otherwise a low priority compared to EM.
Kaedehara Kazuha Constellations Guide
Kazuha is a limited 5-star character. He is excellent at C0 — his core support identity is fully functional without any constellations. C2 is a significant upgrade worth pursuing if you enjoy him, while other constellations provide incremental improvements.
- C1 – Scarlet Hills: Decreases Chihayaburu’s cooldown by 10%. Using Kazuha Slash (Burst) resets the cooldown of Chihayaburu (Elemental Skill). This allows Kazuha to use his Skill twice per rotation when he also uses his Burst — a meaningful improvement to particle generation and A4 passive application frequency. A solid quality-of-life and damage upgrade.
- C2 – Yamaarashi Tailwind (Best Constellation): The Autumn Whirlwind field created by Kazuha Slash increases Kazuha’s own Elemental Mastery by 200 and increases the Elemental Mastery of all characters within the field by 200. These effects do not stack with each other. The 200 EM granted to the team directly improves Kazuha’s own A4 passive buff output (200 EM × 0.04% = 8% additional Elemental DMG Bonus) and simultaneously amplifies any Elemental Mastery-scaling characters in the team (Hyperbloom triggers, Nahida damage, etc.). This is Kazuha’s most impactful constellation and the one most worth investing in after C0.
- C3 – Maple Monogatari: Increases the level of Chihayaburu (Elemental Skill) by 3, up to a maximum of level 15. A direct damage increase to his Skill — relevant primarily in sub-DPS builds.
- C4 – Oozora Genpou: When Kazuha’s Energy is below 45%, pressing or holding Chihayaburu regenerates 3 or 4 Energy for Kazuha respectively. When gliding, Kazuha regenerates 2 Energy per second. The in-combat regeneration when below 45% Energy slightly reduces his ER requirements. The gliding Energy regeneration is a quirky open-world utility that does not see combat use.
- C5 – Wisdom of Bansei: Increases the level of Kazuha Slash (Burst) by 3, up to a maximum of level 15. A direct damage increase to his Burst.
- C6 – Crimson Momiji: After using Chihayaburu or Kazuha Slash, Kazuha gains an Anemo Infusion for 5 seconds, and each point of Elemental Mastery will increase the DMG dealt by Kazuha’s Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks by 0.2%. At 1000 EM, this translates to 200% DMG bonus to all his personal attacks — transforming him into a significant sub-DPS while maintaining his full support role. His Normal Attacks during the infusion period also Swirl elements encountered, extending the A4 passive buff’s frequency. A powerful damage upgrade for players who want to maximise his personal contribution alongside his team buffing.
Kaedehara Kazuha’s Best Team Compositions
Kazuha is one of the most team-agnostic supports in Genshin Impact. The list below covers his most prominent team archetypes, but he genuinely fits into nearly every elemental reaction team that can benefit from VV resistance shred and his A4 Elemental DMG Bonus.
Vaporize Hu Tao Teams
Kazuha is a natural fit for Hu Tao’s Vaporize compositions. He groups enemies for Hu Tao’s Charged Attacks, shreds Pyro and Hydro resistance via VV after absorbing either element, and provides a 40% Pyro DMG Bonus to Hu Tao through his A4 passive when Swirling Pyro.
- Hu Tao + Xingqiu + Zhongli + Kazuha — A time-tested and powerful Hu Tao Vaporize team. Kazuha groups enemies, shreds Pyro RES, and buffs Hu Tao’s Pyro damage by 40% from the A4 passive. Xingqiu provides Hydro and interruption resistance. Zhongli shields. One of the strongest single-target compositions in the game.
- Hu Tao + Yelan + Kazuha + Zhongli — Yelan replaces Xingqiu for higher Hydro sub-DPS and her passive DMG% buff. Kazuha provides the same resistance shred and A4 Pyro buff. A premium team that pushes Hu Tao’s damage ceiling higher.
Freeze Teams
Kazuha is outstanding in Freeze compositions. He groups frozen enemies to prevent them from scattering, shreds Cryo resistance via VV to amplify Cryo DPS characters, and provides a 40% Cryo DMG Bonus through his A4 passive.
- Ayaka + Kazuha + Kokomi + Diona — A powerful Freeze team. Kazuha groups enemies for Ayaka’s Burst, shreds Cryo resistance, and buffs Cryo DMG by 40%. Kokomi provides Hydro application and healing. Diona provides shield, Cryo resonance, and Energy support.
- Ganyu + Kazuha + Kokomi + Shenhe — A premium Freeze team. Ganyu’s Charged Attacks hit grouped, Cryo-RES-shredded, Cryo-DMG-buffed enemies in a compressed zone. Shenhe provides additional Cryo DMG via Icy Quill stacks. Kazuha groups and buffs simultaneously.
Neuvillette Hypercarry Team
Kazuha is a key support in Neuvillette’s best compositions. He groups enemies for Neuvillette’s charged-shot sweeps, provides resistance shred via VV, and his Hydro absorption gives the team a 40% Hydro DMG Bonus from the A4 passive.
- Neuvillette + Kazuha + Furina + Baizhu — A top-tier Neuvillette team. Furina provides Fanfare damage buff and off-field Hydro. Kazuha groups enemies and provides 40% Hydro DMG Bonus from A4 passive after absorbing Hydro via Furina’s application. Baizhu heals and shields. Kazuha makes every Neuvillette shot stronger without needing significant field time.
Electro-Charged and Aggravate Teams
Kazuha works well in Electro-Charged teams where he can Swirl Hydro or Electro to apply VV resistance shred and A4 EM buff to the corresponding element. In Quicken/Aggravate teams, absorbing Electro provides a 40% Electro DMG Bonus for Electro DPS characters.
- Keqing + Kazuha + Nahida + Fischl — Kazuha groups enemies and absorbs Electro for 40% Electro DMG Bonus + VV Electro RES shred. Nahida applies Dendro for Aggravate. Fischl adds off-field Electro and Electro Resonance. Keqing drives the Electro damage.
- Cyno + Kazuha + Odette + Alyosha — Kazuha provides grouping and Electro or Cryo RES shred in Cyno’s Stellar-Conduct team. His A4 passive buffs Cyno’s Electro damage by 40% after absorbing Electro from Cyno’s hits. A strong addition that amplifies Cyno’s on-field damage window.
Mono Hydro Team
In teams built around multiple Hydro characters, Kazuha absorbs Hydro, applies 40% Hydro RES shred through VV, and provides a 40% Hydro DMG Bonus to the entire team — all from a single team slot.
- Kamisato Ayato + Yelan + Furina + Kazuha — Kazuha buffs all three Hydro characters simultaneously with his A4 Hydro DMG Bonus and VV Hydro RES shred. A powerful and synergistic mono Hydro team.
Kaedehara Kazuha Talent Priority
Recommended talent upgrade order: Burst > Skill > Normal Attack.
Both the Burst and Skill contribute to his Swirl frequency and personal damage, but since his support value comes primarily from his A4 passive (which scales with EM, not talent level) and the Viridescent Venerer RES shred, the direct combat value of levelling his talents is more about personal damage than support output. The Burst is levelled first as it deals more damage per cast. The Skill is second for its plunging attack damage and Swirl triggers. Normal Attack is left at minimum as it contributes almost nothing to his rotation. Note that crowning Kazuha’s talents is generally considered low priority compared to investing in his EM and ER stats.

Kaedehara Kazuha Lore and Character Background
Kaedehara Kazuha comes from the Kaedehara Clan, an Inazuman family with a long tradition of swordsmanship and connection to the nation’s cultural heritage. He was once a student of an affiliated swordsman, Tomo, who became one of his closest friends. When the Shogun’s Vision Hunt Decree declared all Visions contraband and their holders subject to surrender, Tomo refused to give up his Vision and died in the confrontation that followed. Kazuha, unwilling to let Tomo’s Vision be confiscated, took it and escaped the Shogun’s forces — effectively becoming a fugitive in his homeland overnight.
He found refuge with Beidou and her Crux Fleet in Liyue, where he has been sailing ever since. He carries Tomo’s Vision alongside his own, a quiet and constant reminder of the friend he lost and the circumstance that set him adrift. Despite this weight, Kazuha presents himself with remarkable equanimity — he is gentle, contemplative, and possessed of a poet’s eye for the world. He notices the colour of autumn maple leaves, the sound of wind through sea grass, the way light falls on still water. Poetry comes to him naturally, and he recites it unprompted with a sincerity that is never performative.
His relationship with the Vision Hunt Decree and the Shogun’s nation forms a significant emotional thread through the Inazuma Archon Quest, in which Kazuha eventually returns to his homeland. His backstory — the loss, the exile, the wandering — gives him a depth that his calm exterior does not immediately reveal. He is one of the most emotionally resonant characters in the game’s early chapters for players who follow the lore carefully.

Kaedehara Kazuha Playstyle Tips and Rotation Advice
- Standard support rotation — Deploy Kazuha’s Elemental Skill (Hold version) near enemies to group them and trigger an elemental Swirl → optionally use his Burst → swap to the main DPS. This typically takes 3–5 seconds total, leaving maximum field time for the damage dealer.
- Always use Hold Skill in combat — The Hold version of Chihayaburu groups enemies from further away, deals more damage, and generates more particles than the Press version. Always use Hold unless timing or mobility constraints specifically require the faster Press version.
- Absorb the right element for the A4 passive — The A4 passive buff only applies to the element Kazuha absorbs during his Plunging Attack or Burst. To buff Hu Tao’s Pyro damage, make sure enemies or Xingqiu’s Hydro aura is the element Kazuha Swirls. Apply the elemental aura you want to amplify on enemies before using Kazuha’s Skill.
- Use Skill before the main DPS enters — The A4 buff and VV resistance shred both have durations. Apply them before your DPS character starts their rotation so the full buff window coincides with peak damage output.
- Burst is situational — skip it when it disrupts reactions — In some teams, Kazuha’s Burst absorbing an element can create an unwanted elemental aura that disrupts Vaporize or Melt setups. In Hu Tao Vaporize teams especially, using his Burst carelessly can result in unwanted Pyro or Hydro field application. Use the Burst only when you are confident it will not interfere with your team’s reaction
