Alien Ruins Angel Comb in Subnautica 2 – How to Clear the Pink Angel Comb

Alien Ruins Angel Comb in Subnautica 2 is one of the trickiest puzzles in the game. Here's exactly where to find it, how to clear it, and how to unlock Axum Vision.

TL;DR

  • The Alien Ruins Angel Comb is found roughly 1,100–1,300 meters east of your Lifepod, beneath a giant turbine structure.
  • Its bloom cankers are pink and close when you approach — you need the Feedback Resonator to destroy them from range.
  • You must clear three separate infestation areas (Bloom Nodes) before the Angel Comb’s cankers open up.
  • Clearing the Angel Comb unlocks the Axum Vision adaptation.
  • A Tadpole with Depth Module Mk. I is required to reach some of the bloom node depths.

Alien Ruins Angel Comb in Subnautica 2 is not something you can rush. It is a multi-step puzzle locked behind proper gear, deeper dives, and clearing three scattered infestation zones before you can even touch the main comb. If you have been walking up to those pink flowers and watching them snap shut, this guide will explain exactly what is happening and how to fix it.

What Is the Alien Ruins Angel Comb in Subnautica 2?

The Angel Comb near the Alien Ruins is the third major Angel Comb in the game. Unlike earlier ones, this one has pink Bloom Cankers that shield themselves when you get too close. They clamp shut before the Sonic Resonator can damage them, and your PDA gives you the message: “The disease is armored.”

Clearing this comb unlocks the Axum Vision adaptation. This lets you read alien glyphs and interact with Axum technology inside the Alien Ruins — without it, the control room terminals are completely unreadable and story progress is blocked.

Where to Find the Alien Ruins Angel Comb

Head east from your Lifepod by following the E marker on your compass. The Alien Ruins (also called the Research Center) are around 1,300 meters east of the Lifepod. The Angel Comb itself sits beneath the giant alien turbine structure in the Alien Ruins area — roughly 530 meters east of the Alien Ruins Signal marker, at a depth of around 400 meters.

When you get close enough, a new signal will automatically appear on your HUD, so you do not need to find it blind. The turbine is a very visible landmark. Once you see it, look directly below it — that is where the Angel Comb is waiting.

You can also track it from your inventory under the Signals tab if you have already discovered it.

What You Need Before You Start

Do not head to the Alien Ruins Angel Comb unprepared. Here is what you need:

Sonic Resonator in Alien Ruins Angel Comb
Sonic Resonator in Alien Ruins Angel Comb
  • Feedback Resonator — This is the upgraded version of the Sonic Resonator, crafted at the Modification Station. It fires projectiles, letting you hit the pink Bloom Cankers from range before they snap shut.
  • Tadpole with Depth Module Mk. I — Some of the infestation areas sit at depths below 300 meters. Without the depth module, your Tadpole cannot reach them safely.
  • Improved Fins and extra Oxygen — The swim routes between bloom nodes are long. Having better fins and more oxygen reduces the frustration significantly.

How to Clear the Alien Ruins Angel Comb – Step by Step

The Angel Comb will not open until you clear three external Bloom Nodes first. Each node has two Bloom Cankers to destroy. Only after all three are cleared will the cankers on the Angel Comb itself open up and become vulnerable.

Clear the Western Bloom Node

Step 1 – Clear the Western Bloom Node

From the Alien Ruins, dive to around 160 meters depth and head west. You will find the first infestation area underneath — this is the Western Bloom Node, located roughly 600 meters west of the Angel Comb inside the Observatory Island Caves.

There are two Bloom Cankers here. Use your Feedback Resonator from a distance — do not swim directly at the cankers or they will close instantly. Line up your shot, fire, and they will take damage. Keep a little distance and work through both cankers.

Clear the Southern Bloom Node

Step 2 – Clear the Southern Bloom Node

Head southwest from the Angel Comb. The Southern Bloom Node is located about 360 meters southwest of the Angel Comb at a depth of around 300 meters. This one is right next to the Angel Comb’s area, so it is the quickest of the three to find.

There are two cankers here as well. The first is right behind the main flower in the center. The second is hidden underneath the platform next to the main flower — look carefully before assuming the area is clear.

Clear the Eastern Bloom Node

Step 3 – Clear the Eastern Bloom Node

The Eastern Bloom Node is the trickiest one to reach. It sits about 460 meters east of the Angel Comb, at 300 meters depth, on a mesa between the Karakorum Power Plant and the Karakorum Metal Farms. It is located directly below the Alterra ruins.

You need to enter through the Cicada Wreck. Inside, grab the Sonic Resonator if you need it, then swim down the elevator shaft. It opens into a cave below, where you will find the final two bloom cankers to destroy.

This is also why the Tadpole Depth Module Mk. I is not optional — 300 meters at this stage of the game is at the limit of your standard depth. Read our guide on how to build the Tadpole if you have not built it yet.

Step 4 – Return to the Angel Comb and Clear the Final Cankers

After clearing all three Bloom Nodes, head back to the Angel Comb beneath the turbine. The two cankers on the Angel Comb’s own Rockbore tendrils will now be open and vulnerable.

Stay back, line up with the Feedback Resonator, and destroy both. Once both are gone, the central flower will glow pink. Swim up to it and interact with the Gene Donor to unlock the Axum Vision adaptation.

What Does Axum Vision Do?

Axum Vision is the fourth major adaptation in Subnautica 2. Once you have it, you can:

  • See and read hidden alien glyphs written in Axum Radial A throughout the Alien Ruins.
  • Interact with Axum Polarized Screens in both the Upper and Lower Generator Control Rooms of the Karakorum Power Plant.
  • Progress the story past the turbine activation sequence.

Without Axum Vision, those control room terminals are visible but completely useless. Getting this adaptation is what lets you actually read and use the alien technology around you.

Tips for Clearing the Pink Angel Comb

  • Never rush the cankers. Swim toward them slowly or use the Feedback Resonator from range. The moment you get too close, they snap shut and you waste a shot.
  • Follow the purple tendrils. The Titan Rockbore tendrils extending from each Angel Comb lead directly to the cankers. Trace them outward from the center so you do not miss any hidden nodes.
  • Parasites will spawn. The cankers keep spawning parasites to attack you during the fight. You can ignore them and focus on the cankers — they disappear automatically once you destroy the source.
  • Check your signals tab. All bloom node locations and the Angel Comb show up as trackable signals in your inventory, making it much easier to navigate between them.
  • The Angel Comb is not bugged. If the cankers are still closed when you return, it means one of the three outer Bloom Nodes is not fully cleared. Go back and double-check each location.

Managing your resources throughout this run is important. If you need help with materials for your gear, see our guides on where to find copper, where to find lithium, and how to recharge your tools and batteries to keep your Feedback Resonator powered.

Common Problems and Fixes

The Bloom Cankers Keep Closing

This means you are using the wrong tool. The basic Sonic Resonator does not work on the pink armored cankers. You must craft the Feedback Resonator first. It is the only tool in the game that fires a ranged projectile capable of hitting them before they close.

The Angel Comb Still Will Not Open

You have not cleared all three Bloom Nodes. Each one must have both cankers destroyed. One missed canker — especially the hidden one under the platform at the Southern Node — is enough to keep the Angel Comb locked. Revisit all three locations and sweep carefully.

Cannot Reach the Eastern Node

This is a depth issue. Make sure you have the Tadpole Depth Module Mk. I installed before attempting the Eastern Bloom Node inside the Cicada Wreck. The area sits at 300 meters, which is beyond the Tadpole’s default range.

How the Alien Ruins Angel Comb Fits Into the Story

The Angel Combs in Subnautica 2 are not random puzzles. They are part of a larger biological and story system. Subnautica 2 is built around the idea that you adapt your body to survive the alien planet rather than brute-forcing your way through it. Each Angel Comb you clear pushes that story forward and unlocks a new ability that changes how you interact with the world.

The Alien Ruins Angel Comb is the deepest and most complex one in the current early access build. It represents a major progression gate — once you have Axum Vision, a large chunk of the game’s alien technology and story content opens up to you. If you have not yet reached this point in the game, use our best early upgrades and progression path guide to get there efficiently.

Subnautica 2 is currently available in early access on Steam and Xbox Game Preview.
