Valor Mortis Lullaby Quest Guide – Weathered Key and Toy Location

    Valor Mortis Lullaby Quest Guide

    TL;DR – Quick Summary

    • The Lullaby quest is found in Chapter 3: Rendezvous, in the Fallen Village.
    • It starts automatically when you approach an empty, bloody crib in a house near the Marketplace Lantern.
    • Pick up the Weathered Key in the back garden of the same house.
    • Use the key to unlock a house across a broken bridge — grab the Toy inside.
    • Return the Toy to the crib to complete the quest and earn the Tomorrow’s Promise Amber.
    • There are no choices, no combat bosses — this is a shorter, atmospheric side quest.

The Lullaby quest in Valor Mortis is one of the quieter side quests in the game, and easily one of the more unsettling ones. There’s no commanding officer handing you orders, no mysterious stranger flagging you down. You walk into a house, hear a baby crying from an empty, bloodstained crib, and a quest begins.

It’s a short quest — but it backtracks through an earlier area, and the locked house you need to reach is easy to walk right past. This guide shows you exactly where to go.

How to Start the Lullaby Quest in Valor Mortis

The Lullaby quest is available in Chapter 3: Rendezvous, in the Fallen Village. You need to reach the Marketplace Lantern first — this is the second Lantern in the Fallen Village area.

From the Marketplace Lantern, head left toward the water area with the distant flames. You’ll see blue grapple hook anchors above a body of water. To the left of that water is a wooden house with a door you can enter.

Go inside and continue deeper into the building. As you approach the empty crib in the main room, you’ll hear the sound of a baby crying. The quest Lullaby begins automatically — no dialogue needed, no NPC to talk to. The goal is simple: find a way to soothe the spirit.

Before leaving, grab the Flaming Whetstone on the floor nearby — it’s easy to miss and worth picking up.

Weathered Key Location in Valor Mortis

Don’t leave through the front door yet. After the quest triggers, head out through the back door of the house.

You’ll find a group of enemies in the back garden. Clear them out — they’re not particularly tough, especially if you’ve recently picked up the Blunderbuss from the carriage earlier in the chapter. Once they’re dealt with, check the muddy ground nearby.

The Weathered Key is sitting on the ground among the enemies. It glows slightly, so it stands out once you’re looking for it. Pick it up. This is what unlocks the house where the Toy is hidden.

Toy Location in Valor Mortis – How to Find the Locked House

This is the part of the quest that trips most players up. The house you need is not near the Marketplace Lantern — it’s back in a previous area. Here’s the path:

Step 1 – Return to the Marketplace Lantern and Backtrack

From the Marketplace Lantern, follow the path back toward the area you came through before reaching this lantern. You’re heading toward the area near the center of the village where the destroyed carriage sits — the same carriage you passed through earlier to pick up the Blunderbuss.

Step 2 – Head Right After the Volunteer Enemy

After you pass the carriage and deal with the large Volunteer enemy on the other side, take the path to the right. Follow it to the end of the path.

Step 3 – Jump the Broken Bridge

You’ll reach a point where you can see a house on the other side of the water, across a broken section of bridge. Get a short running start and jump the gap — it’s a doable leap. The house is visible right across from you.

Step 4 – Use the Weathered Key

The door of this house is locked from the inside. Use the Weathered Key to open it. Go inside and head to the back of the house — the Toy is on a bed.

Pick it up. The quest updates.

How to Complete the Lullaby Quest – Place the Toy in the Crib

Now just head back to where the quest started. Fast travel to the Marketplace Lantern to skip the backtrack, then walk left to the house with the crib again.

Approach the crib and interact with it to place the Toy inside. The baby’s spirit goes quiet. The quest completes, and you receive the Tomorrow’s Promise Amber.

Tomorrow’s Promise Amber – What It Does

The Tomorrow’s Promise Amber changes how your Ferrofluid Flask heals you. Instead of restoring health instantly when you use the flask, it makes the healing happen gradually over time.

This sounds like a downside at first — and in some situations it is. But gradual healing keeps you functional through encounters where instant healing would be wasted (you’re already at nearly full HP and just need a slow top-up). It also pairs well with aggressive, mobile playstyles where you’re constantly moving and rarely standing still long enough for a healing window to open up cleanly.

Whether it’s better than other Ambers depends on your build and how you use your flasks. It’s a niche pick, but it earns its slot for the right player. For more on building your character, see our Valor Mortis best stats to level first guide.

    Tips for the Lullaby Quest

    • Don’t rush past the house — it’s on the left after the Marketplace Lantern, easy to walk past if you’re heading straight through the village.
    • Grab the Weathered Key before you leave — the back garden is right there when the quest starts. Pick up the key immediately so you’re not backtracking a second time later.
    • Fast travel saves time — once you have the Toy, fast traveling back to the Marketplace Lantern is the fastest way to finish.
    • You can complete this later — if you leave Fallen Village before finishing, you can return at any time. The crib, the key, and the locked house all stay accessible.
    • Watch for the Flaming Whetstone — it’s on the floor of the quest house when you first enter. Easy to miss and worth grabbing while you’re there.

Where Does Lullaby Fit in the Story?

The Lullaby quest is part of Chapter 3: Rendezvous and sits in the Fallen Village, the same location as several other side quests and the chapter’s main boss, the Iron Marshall. It’s one of 20 side quests available across the full game.

The story behind it is left mostly to your imagination — a destroyed home, an empty crib, a child’s toy locked away in an abandoned house nearby. Valor Mortis doesn’t spell out what happened. It just leaves the pieces there for you to put together.

Frequently Asked Questions – Valor Mortis Lullaby Quest

Where does the Lullaby quest start in Valor Mortis?

In the Fallen Village during Chapter 3. From the Marketplace Lantern, head left toward the water and enter the wooden house. Approach the empty, bloodstained crib and the quest begins automatically.

Where is the Weathered Key in Valor Mortis?

It’s in the back garden of the house where the quest starts. Go out the back door, kill the small group of enemies waiting there, and pick up the Weathered Key from the ground near them.

Where is the Toy in the Valor Mortis Lullaby quest?

Backtrack from the Marketplace Lantern toward the carriage area. After the Volunteer enemy, turn right and follow the path to its end. Jump across the broken bridge and use the Weathered Key to open the locked house on the other side. The Toy is on a bed inside.

What is the reward for completing the Lullaby quest in Valor Mortis?

You receive the Tomorrow’s Promise Amber, which changes your Ferrofluid Flask so it heals you gradually over time instead of instantly. You also earn a good amount of Catalysts.

What does the Tomorrow’s Promise Amber do in Valor Mortis?

It modifies your Ferrofluid Flask to restore health over a longer period rather than all at once. It’s useful for mobile, aggressive playstyles where sustained gradual healing is better than a single burst.

Can you miss the Lullaby quest in Valor Mortis?

No. Unlike some quests in the game, Lullaby can be completed even if you leave the Fallen Village first. You can return to the area at any time via fast travel, collect the Weathered Key if you haven’t already, and finish the quest at your own pace.

Do you need to fight a boss for the Lullaby quest?

No. There’s no quest-specific boss. The only combat involved is a small group of regular enemies in the back garden when you pick up the Weathered Key. The rest is exploration and backtracking.
