The Witcher 3 Remastered Best Money Exploits

    TL;DR

    • Crowns are scarce early in the game. Good farming habits matter from the start.
    • The Pang of Conscience exploit at Kaer Morhen is the most well-known money glitch and still works in Remastered.
    • The Hanse Base farming method in Toussaint is the best repeatable exploit without any glitch involved.
    • Always sell weapons to blacksmiths and armor to armorers for the best prices.
    • Lafargue in Beauclair, Toussaint pays the highest prices in the game for gear.
    • Convert old Florens and Orens to Crowns at Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad — do not leave them sitting in your inventory.
    • Dismantle gear before selling when it contains expensive crafting materials like Dimeritium.

Why Crowns Are Harder to Come By Than You Think

The Witcher 3 Remastered does not hand you money easily. Geralt’s expenses pile up fast — crafting gear, repairing equipment, buying diagrams, and upgrading Witcher sets all cost a significant number of Crowns. Most players hit a wall around Novigrad where they want better gear but cannot afford to craft it.

The good news is there are several reliable methods to fill your purse, and one well-known exploit that has survived every major update including Patch 5.0 in the Remastered version. This guide covers everything — from the best legit farming habits to the most effective exploits the community has used for years.

    The Pang of Conscience Exploit

The Pang of Conscience Exploit (Best Money Glitch)

This is the most famous money glitch in The Witcher 3 and it still works in the Remastered update. It requires reaching Kaer Morhen, which happens naturally as you progress through the main story. You do not need any mods or console commands.

How to Do the Pang of Conscience Exploit

    • Travel to Kaer Morhen and head south of the fast travel point through the cliffs and ruins.
    • Look for a ruined signal tower opposite a C-shaped stone wall.
    • Climb the ladder to the top of the tower. You will find a skeleton with two items: the Pang of Conscience silver sword and a Letter of Apology.
    • Loot only the sword. Do not take the Letter of Apology.
    • Save your game immediately after looting the sword.
    • Load that save back in. The sword will have respawned on the skeleton and you can loot it again.
    • Repeat this process as many times as you like. Your carry weight is the only limit.
    • Travel to a blacksmith — Hierarch Square in Novigrad works well early on — and sell the swords for hundreds of Crowns each.

The key detail is that the Letter of Apology must stay on the skeleton. As soon as you take both items, the exploit stops working. Each sword sells for several hundred Crowns depending on Geralt’s level and which vendor you use. Stack up as many as your weight limit allows before making a trip to sell.

This glitch has survived all of CD Projekt Red’s official patches, including the 2022 next-gen update and the 2026 Remastered launch. A community bug-fix mod on Nexus Mods does patch it out, but the base game does not.

Hanse Base Farming in Toussaint (Best Repeatable Method)

    Hanse Base Farming in Toussaint
    Hanse Base Farming in Toussaint

If you have unlocked the Blood and Wine expansion and reached Toussaint, the Hanse base method is arguably the best money-farming loop in the game. There are three Hanse bases in the region. Each one can be farmed repeatedly without any glitch — just clever use of the game’s respawn system.

    How Hanse Base Farming Works

    • Travel to one of the three Hanse bases in Toussaint.
    • Kill and loot all of the bandits except the leader/boss. Do not kill the leader.
    • Fast travel to a merchant — Lafargue the grandmaster blacksmith in Beauclair pays the best prices in the game.
    • Sell all the weapons and gear you looted.
    • Fast travel back to the Hanse base. The bandits will have respawned.
    • Repeat the loop as many times as you want.

The reason the boss must stay alive is that killing them clears the base permanently. As long as the leader is alive, the base repopulates and the loot keeps coming. Each run through a full Hanse base can net you several thousand Crowns worth of gear once sold to the right vendor. This method works well alongside the Remastered gear system — see our Remastered gear reforging guide to understand which dropped items are worth keeping.

Sell to the Right Vendor — This Matters More Than Most Players Realise

Selling items to the wrong merchant is one of the biggest mistakes players make. Every vendor has a specialty and pays significantly more for items in that category. Selling a sword to a general merchant instead of a blacksmith can cut your payout in half.

    • Weapons — sell to blacksmiths only. Éibhear Hattori in Novigrad and Lafargue in Beauclair pay the most.
    • Armor — sell to armorers only. The armorer in Hierarch Square, Novigrad is good early on. Toussaint armorers pay best late game.
    • Alchemy ingredients and monster parts — sell to herbalists and alchemists. Never sell these to blacksmiths or general merchants.
    • Potions and bombs — sell to herbalists and alchemists in Novigrad for the best rates. Swallow, Thunderbolt, and Black Blood can sell for 50 to 100 Crowns each.
    • Food and drink — sell to innkeepers. They pay more per item than general merchants.
    • Cow hides and animal pelts — innkeepers and some merchants pay more per hide than blacksmiths do.

Also remember that each merchant has a limited pool of Crowns. Once you have cleaned them out, meditate for several days in-game and their gold will refresh. Spread large sales across multiple vendors rather than dumping everything on one and accepting a low price for the last batch.

Convert Florens and Orens at Vivaldi Bank

As you explore the world, you will pick up Florens and Orens — old currency types that cannot be spent in any shop. Most players ignore them. Do not. Head to Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad and speak to Vimme Vivaldi. He exchanges both currencies for Crowns. Depending on how thoroughly you have looted throughout the game, this single visit can hand you hundreds or even thousands of free Crowns you did not know you had.

Do this early in the game. Many players do not discover Vivaldi Bank until mid-game and sit on useless currency for hours.

Dismantle Smart — Not Everything Should Be Sold Whole

Some items are worth much more as crafting components than as sellable gear. If you sell everything without checking what it dismantles into, you will miss out on serious value.

    • Dimeritium is one of the most expensive crafting materials in the game. If a piece of gear dismantles into Dimeritium ore, do that rather than selling it outright. Buying Dimeritium separately from merchants costs far more than the sword would have sold for.
    • Sea shells can be dismantled into pearls and black pearls. These sell for 100 or more Crowns each. Selling the shell whole gives you far less.
    • Late-game armor often dismantles into Slyzard or Draconid hides. These are required for crafting Grandmaster Witcher sets. Keep them or sell the components separately to alchemists for a better return.
    • Common gray weapons and armor — just sell these. The components are not worth the effort of dismantling low-tier gear.

Before dismantling anything, hover over the item in the dismantle menu. The game will show you exactly what components you will get. Compare that value against the sell price and make the call.

Witcher Contracts — The Most Reliable Honest Income

If you want a steady income without exploits, Witcher contracts are the answer. They pay a large lump sum on completion, and Geralt can often negotiate for a higher fee before accepting the job. Always push for the higher amount — the negotiation option appears in dialogue and has no negative consequences.

Contracts in Blood and Wine pay the most. High-level hunts in Toussaint can reward 500 to 1,000 Crowns per completion on top of trophy loot. Do them at the recommended level so the XP and gold both stay full.

    Smuggler Caches in Skellige

Skellige has a large number of smuggler caches scattered in the water around the islands. These are underwater question marks on the map. Each one contains a chest with loot — weapons, armor, crafting materials, and sometimes Relic-tier gear. A single run through the Skellige waters hitting every cache can bring in 1,500 Crowns or more worth of items to sell. They do not respawn, but the total value across the whole map is substantial.

Gwent and Fistfights for Early Crowns

In the early game when your inventory is thin and contracts are few, Gwent matches and fistfights are a useful source of small income. Innkeepers and merchants across the map will wager Crowns on a card match. Payouts start low but Novigrad gambling spots and high-stakes players can reward 150 to 300 Crowns per win. Fistfight events work the same way — place a bet before the fight and walk away with the winnings. Neither method scales into serious money late game but they keep you afloat early.

    Horse Racing Rewards

Horse racing is easy to miss. The races scattered across Velen, Novigrad, and Skellige reward both Crowns and sometimes useful equipment on completion. They are quick to do and require no combat. The Crown payouts are modest but the equipment prizes can be useful for your build early on — or sold if they are not.

Best Vendor in the Game: Lafargue in Beauclair

Lafargue is the grandmaster blacksmith in Beauclair, Toussaint. He pays the highest prices in the entire game for weapons, armor, and crafting components. Once you have access to Blood and Wine, make Lafargue your primary sell destination. Combine Hanse base farming runs with sales to Lafargue and you have the most efficient Crown loop in The Witcher 3 Remastered. This vendor is also essential if you are upgrading your gear — learn more in our best builds guide.

PC Console Command: Add Crowns Instantly

On PC, if you have the debug console enabled, you can add Crowns directly using the command addmoney(value). For example, typing addmoney(10000) adds 10,000 Crowns to your inventory immediately. This is not an in-game exploit — it is a developer console command and works only on PC. It does not affect achievements in most cases but is best used on a secondary save if you want to keep your main playthrough clean.

Tips to Spend Less and Keep More

    • Do not repair gear too often. Use the Quen sign and good positioning to take less damage and reduce repair costs.
    • Buy only what you actually need. Many players waste Crowns on food and alchemy materials they already have from looting.
    • Craft potions and bombs using materials you find. Buying them from merchants is expensive compared to making them yourself.
    • Never spend Crowns on weapons or armor from merchants. There is better loot waiting in quests and treasure hunts everywhere.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the fastest way to get Crowns in The Witcher 3 Remastered?

The Pang of Conscience exploit at Kaer Morhen is the fastest way to get Crowns quickly. Loot the sword from the ruined tower skeleton, save, reload, and loot it again indefinitely. Sell the swords to Lafargue in Beauclair or the Hierarch Square blacksmith in Novigrad for maximum returns.

Does the Pang of Conscience glitch still work in the Remastered version?

Yes. The Pang of Conscience exploit survived the 2022 next-gen update and the 2026 Remastered Patch 5.0. CD Projekt Red has not patched it in the official game. The only way it gets fixed is if you install a community bug-fix mod on PC.

Which merchant pays the most in The Witcher 3 Remastered?

Lafargue, the grandmaster blacksmith in Beauclair, Toussaint, pays the best prices in the game for weapons and armor. For alchemy ingredients and monster parts, alchemists and herbalists in Novigrad offer the best rates.

Should I sell or dismantle items in Witcher 3 Remastered?

It depends on what the item dismantles into. Check the dismantle preview before selling. Items that break into Dimeritium, Draconid hides, or pearls are often worth more dismantled than sold whole. Common gray items should just be sold — dismantling them is not worth the time.

Where do I exchange Florens and Orens for Crowns?

Visit Vimme Vivaldi at Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad. He exchanges old Florens and Orens for Crowns. Do this early in the game so the currency does not sit unused in your inventory for hours.

Is the Hanse base farming method patched in Remastered?

No. The Hanse base method is not a glitch — it uses the game’s normal enemy respawn system. As long as you do not kill the base leader, bandits will keep respawning when you fast travel away and return. This method works in all versions of the game including the 2026 Remastered update.

How do I make money early in the game before reaching Toussaint?

Early in the game, focus on looting every container you see, completing Witcher contracts from noticeboards, selling weapons to blacksmiths and armor to armorers, and visiting Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad to convert old currencies. The Pang of Conscience exploit is also available as soon as you reach Kaer Morhen in the main story, which happens mid-game.
