The Witcher 3 Remastered How to Use the Bank Florens Orens Guide

    TL;DR

    • Florens and Orens are old currencies you cannot spend at any merchant.
    • You must exchange them at a bank to turn them into usable Crowns.
    • Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad (Hierarch Square) is the main bank in the game.
    • Orens exchange at 1:1 — one Oren gives you one Crown.
    • Florens exchange at 1:3 — one Floren gives you three Crowns.
    • If you have Blood and Wine, the Cianfanelli Bank in Beauclair offers the same service.
    • You can also take out a small loan at Vivaldi Bank, but you must repay it before borrowing again.
    • Do not sit on Florens and Orens — exchange them as soon as you reach Novigrad.

What Are Florens and Orens in The Witcher 3 Remastered?

The Witcher 3 Remastered has three currencies in the game world: Crowns, Florens, and Orens. Most players only ever think about Crowns because that is the only currency merchants accept across the Northern Kingdoms. But as you loot bodies, chests, and bandit camps, you will regularly pick up Florens and Orens as well.

The problem is that these two currencies are completely useless on their own. You cannot spend them. They just sit in your inventory taking up space — unless you know what to do with them.

Florens are the currency of the Nilfgaardian Empire and its provinces. You find them most often on Nilfgaardian soldiers and in Nilfgaard-controlled areas. Orens are the old currency of Temeria — the same coins that were used as the main currency in the first two Witcher games. Anyone who played The Witcher 1 or The Witcher 2 will recognize Orens immediately.

Neither of them can be used in shops. But they can both be converted into Crowns at a bank — and that conversion is completely free.

Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad – Where to Find It

The main bank in The Witcher 3 Remastered is the Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad. It is run by Vimme Vivaldi, a dwarf merchant who offers currency exchange and loans.

Finding the bank can be tricky because it is not marked on the map until you discover it. Here is exactly where it is:

    • Head to the Hierarch Square fast travel point in Novigrad.
    • From Hierarch Square, walk west into the main market area.
    • Look for a building with two large coin-shaped signs hanging from the front. That is the Vivaldi Bank.
    • It sits close to the bonfire that was used to burn witches when you first arrived in Novigrad — a hard-to-miss landmark.

Once you enter, speak to Vimme Vivaldi to access the exchange service. You do not need to unlock the bank through a quest. Just walk in and talk to him. Vivaldi is also an old acquaintance of Geralt, so the conversation feels natural rather than transactional.

How to Exchange Florens and Orens for Crowns

How to Exchange Florens and Orens for Crowns

The process is fast. When you speak to Vimme Vivaldi, select the dialogue option “I’d like to convert some currency.” The game will automatically exchange all the Florens and Orens in your inventory into Crowns in a single transaction. There is no conversion fee. You get the full exchange value.

The exchange rates are fixed and never change:

    • 1 Oren = 1 Crown — a flat one-to-one rate.
    • 1 Floren = 3 Crowns — every single Floren is worth triple a Crown.

This means Florens are significantly more valuable than they look. If you have been looting Nilfgaardian soldiers, camps, and chests throughout White Orchard and Velen, you may have accumulated dozens of Florens without realising it. A stack of 50 Florens converts to 150 Crowns in one click. Always exchange your currency before spending time worrying about being short on money.

Florens vs Orens – Which Is Worth More?

Florens are the better find. One Floren equals three Crowns. One Oren equals one Crown. If you are looting an area and find a mix of both, Florens add up to real money much faster. Orens are still worth converting — every Crown counts, especially early in the game — but do not get excited when you find a pile of Orens the way you would for Florens.

In lore terms, this is actually the reverse of what makes historical sense. Florens used to be far more valuable than Orens before the events of the game. By the time of The Witcher 3, the Nilfgaardian economy had destabilised the floren, dropping its value significantly in the wider continent — but in game terms, one Floren still gets you three Crowns, making them well worth hunting for.

Where Do You Find Florens and Orens?

Both currencies are scattered throughout the game world and drop from a variety of sources:

    • Nilfgaardian soldiers and camps — Florens drop most frequently from Nilfgaardian enemies. White Orchard is packed with them early on. The Nilfgaardian Garrison in White Orchard has chests and bodies with Florens inside.
    • Velen and Novigrad bandit camps — a mix of Orens and Crowns turns up in bandit loot across both regions.
    • Chests and barrels — standard loot containers throughout the world. Open everything you pass.
    • Underwater treasure chests — several hidden chests in White Orchard’s rivers contain Florens. Dive anywhere you see a question mark near water.
    • Enemy bodies — soldiers, smugglers, and Nilfgaardian officers in particular carry Florens regularly.

Florens appear most often in Nilfgaard-controlled regions, while Orens are more common in Temerian areas like Velen. Skellige tends to reward Crowns more than either. Keep looting everything as you go. The amounts per chest are small but they stack up over a full playthrough.

    Cianfanelli Bank in Beauclair
    Cianfanelli Bank in Beauclair

Cianfanelli Bank in Beauclair – The Toussaint Alternative

If you have unlocked the Blood and Wine expansion and made your way to Toussaint, you do not need to travel all the way back to Novigrad to exchange currency. The Cianfanelli Bank in Beauclair offers the exact same exchange service at the same rates.

Here is where to find it:

    • Head to the Gran’place signpost in Beauclair.
    • The Cianfanelli Bank is right next to that signpost, in the northern part of the main market square.
    • The bank is run by Giacomo Cianfanelli.
    • Important: The bank has opening hours. It is closed at night. If you arrive after dark, meditate until morning (around 8 AM in-game) to enter.

The Cianfanelli Bank is also the setting for a fun side quest called Paperchase. A vineyard owner deposited money in Geralt’s name years ago, and you can go collect it. There is some classic Witcher bureaucracy to work through first, but the payoff is worth it — either 200 Crowns quickly or 500 Crowns plus a sword called The Reckoner if you wait a week.

Can You Take Out a Loan at Vivaldi Bank?

Yes. Vimme Vivaldi offers Geralt a small loan of 100 Crowns if you ask for it. This can help in the very early game when you are strapped for cash. There is a catch though — the loan must be repaid before you can borrow again, and Vivaldi charges 30% interest. That means repaying the loan costs 130 Crowns rather than the 100 you borrowed.

The loan is not particularly useful for most players. By the time you reach Novigrad and can access the bank, a few contracts or sold loot will give you more than 100 Crowns anyway. It is worth knowing the option exists for emergencies, but do not rely on it as a regular income strategy.

One quirky note — repaying the loan rewards 13 XP each time. In theory you could take and repay loans repeatedly to farm a tiny amount of experience, but it is one of the least efficient XP sources in the game and not worth the effort.

    Important Tips for New Players

    • Go to the bank early. As soon as you reach Novigrad, visit Vivaldi Bank. Many players spend hours in Novigrad before realising they are sitting on hundreds of Crowns worth of Florens in their inventory.
    • Do not hold Florens hoping to spend them. You cannot. There are no merchants anywhere in the game that accept Florens or Orens. Convert everything at the first chance you get.
    • Prioritise looting Nilfgaardian areas. White Orchard and the early Velen zones near the Nilfgaard Army camp have plenty of Florin-carrying soldiers and chests. Thorough looting early pays off.
    • Revisit the bank when you accumulate more. Currency keeps showing up throughout the game. Check your inventory occasionally. If you see a stack of Florens building up, take a quick detour to the bank.
    • Blood and Wine players save travel time. Once you unlock Toussaint, use Cianfanelli Bank instead of going back to Novigrad. It saves a long fast travel and the exchange rates are identical.

How Much Crown Value Can You Expect From Exchange?

There is no single answer — it depends entirely on how thoroughly you have looted the game world. But to give you a sense of scale: a careful player who has looted White Orchard, most of Velen, and several bandit camps can realistically walk into Vivaldi Bank for the first time with 30 to 60 Florens and 50 to 100 Orens. That converts to between 140 and 280 Crowns — a meaningful sum in the early game when gear repairs and crafting costs are already biting into your budget.

Some players who ignore the bank and loot heavily across multiple regions have reported sitting on 300 or more Florens by the time they first visited Novigrad — over 900 Crowns waiting to be claimed in a single conversation.

The Witcher 3 Currency System Explained

Understanding why three currencies exist helps make sense of the game world. The Continent in The Witcher 3 is mid-war. Nilfgaard has conquered Temeria and is pushing north. This means Geralt travels through regions where different economies were in use before the war. Florens come from Nilfgaard. Orens come from the old Temerian economy. Crowns are the currency of the Northern Kingdoms, centred on Novigrad as the dominant trading city.

No merchant in the Northern Kingdoms wants to accept Nilfgaardian or Temerian coins. That is why the bank exists — to act as a legitimate currency exchanger on the border between these economies. It is a small but thoughtful piece of worldbuilding that also doubles as a useful game mechanic for players who explore thoroughly.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What are Florens and Orens in The Witcher 3 Remastered?

Florens and Orens are two old currencies you find by looting enemies and chests throughout the game. They cannot be spent at any merchant. You must exchange them at a bank — Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad or Cianfanelli Bank in Beauclair — to turn them into Crowns, which is the only currency merchants accept.

Where is Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad?

Vivaldi Bank is in the main market area of Novigrad, just west of the Hierarch Square fast travel point. Look for a building with two large coin-shaped signs hanging from the front. It is not marked on the map until you discover it for the first time.

What is the exchange rate for Florens and Orens?

Orens exchange at a rate of 1:1 — one Oren equals one Crown. Florens exchange at 1:3 — one Floren equals three Crowns. The exchange is completely free with no fee.

Can I use Florens or Orens to buy things directly?

No. Neither Florens nor Orens can be spent at any merchant or crafting NPC in the game. The only way to make use of them is to exchange them at a bank.

Is there a bank in Toussaint?

Yes. The Cianfanelli Bank is located at the Gran’place in Beauclair, Toussaint. It offers the same currency exchange service as Vivaldi Bank and is available once you reach the Blood and Wine expansion content. Note that it has opening hours — it is closed at night.

What happens if I never exchange my Florens and Orens?

Nothing bad happens — they just stay in your inventory permanently and do nothing. You do not lose them. But you also never benefit from them. Every Floren sitting unexchanged is three Crowns you could be spending on crafting, repairs, or upgrades. Exchange them as early as possible.

Can you take out a loan at Vivaldi Bank?

Yes. Vimme Vivaldi will lend Geralt 100 Crowns on request. The loan carries 30% interest, meaning repayment costs 130 Crowns. You cannot take out a second loan until the first is repaid. The loan is only really useful in the very early game before you have built up any income from quests and looting.

Do Florens and Orens appear in The Witcher 3 Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2?

Yes. The Remastered version launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on 29 September 2026, and the full currency system — including Florens, Orens, and both banks — is identical across all platforms. The exchange mechanics work exactly the same way on Switch 2 as on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
