But loyalty came to define his adult life, and he served with integrity until the institution he’d committed himself to turned on him.

He was framed for a murder he didn’t commit and thrown in prison. When he was eventually freed, there was no position to return to and no one waiting to make it right. So he walked away — a blind swordsman wandering Huanglong alone, seeking not fame or rank, but mastery of the blade and a life anchored in his own moral code.

The blindness is a quiet detail that the game never over-explains, which makes it feel all the more intentional. He moves with the absolute stillness and precision of someone who has had to develop every other sense to compensate. His voice lines and general demeanor carry the weight of a person who has been through genuine injustice and chosen to become something measured and resolved on the other side of it rather than bitter.

After a Basic or Heavy Attack, there’s also a brief window where Qiuyuan becomes immune to the next instance of damage he takes and auto-triggers a Dodge Counter if hit during this window. In practice this passive defense rarely triggers mid-rotation since any subsequent command cancels it, but it’s a useful safety net during slower moments.

When Swordster’s Soliloquy hits 200 points, Basic Attack is replaced with the enhanced version — Thus Spoke the Blade: Inkwash — which chains up to 4 consecutive heavy strikes dealing Aero Heavy Attack DMG, with each stage restoring additional Soliloquy.

Forte Circuit — Swordster’s Soliloquy (The Core System)

This is Qiuyuan’s entire identity in one mechanic. He fills Swordster’s Soliloquy (max 600 points) through Basic Attacks, Dodge Counters, and his Intro Skill, and hitting different thresholds unlocks progressively stronger abilities:

• 200 points: Basic Attack replaced with Thus Spoke the Blade: Inkwash (enhanced Heavy Attack chain)
• 400 points: Bamboo’s Shade activates — grants all nearby active Resonators 30% Echo Skill DMG Bonus for 30 seconds
• 600 points (full): Enters Inksplash of Mind state for 8 seconds — Heavy Attack becomes a 3-stage enhanced sequence (To Teach → To Save → To Sacrifice), each considered an Echo Skill cast

The Inksplash of Mind Heavy Attack sequence is his main personal damage source. Each hit of the three-stage chain is counted as an Echo Skill cast, which means it also procs Hecate’s Enhanced Attacks if Phrolova is in Maestro state on the field.

Resonance Skill — Undaunted Wayfarer

Qiuyuan’s Resonance Skill has two versions:

• Tap: Guard Point mechanic — if cast while being hit, Qiuyuan nullifies the damage, stagnates nearby enemies, and becomes immune to interruption during the skill. The tap version cannot be animation-canceled.
• Hold: Dash forward dealing Aero Echo Skill DMG. No Guard Point, but can be animation-canceled for faster rotations. If no enemies are nearby, Qiuyuan leaps and dashes airborne, consuming Stamina until released.

The hold version is the one you’ll use most in combat rotations because of the animation cancel potential. The tap version is a situational defensive tool when you need a panic button.

Resonance Liberation — Sundering Strike

Qiuyuan’s Liberation deals Aero damage to targets within range, considered Echo Skill DMG. The critical buff here: for every 1% of Qiuyuan’s Crit Rate above 50%, this skill increases the Crit DMG of all nearby active Resonators by 2%, capping at 30% at 65% Crit Rate.

This is why hitting 65% Crit Rate is a hard stat threshold for Qiuyuan — not for his own damage, but to consistently deliver that full 30% Crit DMG boost to your DPS. The buff lasts 30 seconds, so it has comfortable uptime within a standard rotation.

Intro & Outro Skills

• Intro Skill: Grants Qiuyuan 400 points of Swordster’s Soliloquy instantly — this is the main reason you always want him entering via Intro. It jumps him directly to Bamboo’s Shade range (30% Echo Skill DMG Bonus) and two Basic Attacks away from Inksplash of Mind, making the rotation dramatically faster than starting cold

The 65% Crit Rate and 130% ER are the two non-negotiable stat checkpoints. Everything else is optimizing from there. Don’t skip these for raw damage stats — the Liberation Crit DMG buff for your team is worth far more than marginal personal DPS gains.

Best Teams for Qiuyuan

Team 1 — Sigrika Echo Skill Core (Version 3.2 Best in Slot)

This is the highest-ceiling team composition available in Version 3.2 and the reason Qiuyuan is rerunning alongside Sigrika’s debut. Sigrika’s entire damage kit is classified as Echo Skill DMG, which means every single buff Qiuyuan provides — the 30% Echo Skill DMG Bonus, the 30% Crit DMG, the 50% Echo Skill Amplification Outro — feeds directly and completely into her damage output. Without Qiuyuan, Sigrika performs well. With him, she reaches a damage tier that most other DPS characters in the game can’t match.

Team 2 — Galbrena Echo Skill Core

Before Sigrika’s arrival, this was the premier Echo Skill team. Qiuyuan’s Echo Skill DMG amplification and Crit DMG buffs funnel directly into Galbrena for explosive burst windows. Smooth rotation between Qiuyuan and Galbrena’s combos is the key to maximizing this composition.

Team 3 — Phrolova Echo Skill Core

Qiuyuan is the designated buffer for Phrolova compositions, providing the Echo Skill DMG amplification that powers Hecate’s Enhanced Attacks during Maestro state. Cantarella handles the healing and additional Echo Skill casts to keep Hecate attacking at maximum frequency.

One important note here: because Phrolova quickly swaps off field after her Liberation to let Hecate work in Maestro state, Qiuyuan’s Bamboo’s Shade buff only applies to the on-field character. The Outro’s 50% Echo Skill Amplification still applies when Phrolova enters, but ensure your timing accounts for who is active during Qiuyuan’s buff windows.

Team 4 — Alternative / Flexible Compositions

If you’re running Qiuyuan but don’t have his ideal DPS partners yet, he still slots into teams with other SS Tier carries, though at reduced effectiveness since those characters don’t scale off Echo Skill DMG the same way. Characters like Aemeath, Augusta, Cartethyia, or Iuno benefit somewhat from his Crit DMG buff on Liberation, but don’t receive the massive Echo Skill DMG Amplification payoff. In these scenarios, Lynae provides more universal value as the sub-DPS slot.

Resonance Chain (Sequence Nodes) — What’s Worth Pulling

Pulling recommendation: S0 is the intended support build and completely valid for his primary role. The signature weapon is a higher priority than extra copies if you’re choosing between them. S1 adds meaningful QoL and stat convenience. S3 is where he transforms into a dual-threat damage dealer and support, making it a strong stopping point for accounts that want to push him further. S6 is for dedicated Qiuyuan mains only.

Ascension Materials

Wintry Bell is the most time-gated resource since it’s an open-world collectible. If you’re pre-farming before pulling, start collecting Wintry Bell from the Gorges of Spirits area immediately and supplement with the weekly pharmacy purchase. The Curse of the Abyss weekly drop from Threnodian: Leviathan is the Forte skill bottleneck — make sure you’re clearing that weekly once he’s in your roster.

If you have Galbrena or Phrolova in your roster, he’s the buffer that takes those characters from good to dominant.

If your current roster is built around Tune Break compositions featuring Aemeath, Augusta, or Cartethyia, pulling Lynae or Mornye provides more immediate value since their buffs are universal. Qiuyuan is a deliberate, long-term investment into the Echo Skill archetype specifically.

He also genuinely gets better over time. As more Echo Skill DMG characters release, his value compounds — every new Echo Skill DPS that arrives makes the existing investment in him more rewarding.

Qiuyuan is the definition of a support character done right. He doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. He is the absolute best at one thing — amplifying Echo Skill damage — and in Version 3.2 that one thing is the most relevant archetype in endgame content.
