Yuanwu is a free 4-star Electro Gauntlet resonator in Wuthering Waves. He owns a boxing gym in Solaris-3 where he teaches martial arts and health management. He is well-respected in the community for his calm demeanor. In combat, he is a sub-DPS and defensive support whose abilities mostly scale off his DEF stat rather than ATK. Yuanwu Kit Overview – How He Works

Yuanwu’s kit is built around one key ability: his Resonance Skill, which summons a Thunder Wedge on the field. The Thunder Wedge does not disappear when he switches out. While it is active and an enemy is within its range, it performs Coordinated Attacks whenever the on-field character deals damage. This gives him near 100% uptime on Coordinated Attacks — the highest of any character in the game.

His key mechanics are:

• Thunder Wedge: Summoned by his Resonance Skill. Stays on the field when he swaps out. Deals Electro DMG through Coordinated Attacks.
• Forte Circuit Gauge: Builds while Thunder Wedge is on the field. When full, you can detonate the wedge by using his Liberation or long-pressing the Resonance Skill. This knocks enemies and deals Electro DMG.
• Lightning Infused State: Activated after detonating the Thunder Wedge. In this state, his abilities scale off DEF and deal enhanced Electro DMG.
• Vibration Strength Reduction: His Outro Skill deals heavy damage to the enemy’s Vibration Strength bar. This lets your team stagger bosses much faster.
• Anti-Interruption Buff: He provides a team-wide resistance to interruption, which keeps your main DPS safe while they are attacking.

Yuanwu’s damage scales off DEF, which makes him unique. You want weapons that boost DEF, Energy Regen, or Resonance Liberation DMG. Here are his best options.

1. Amity Accord (Best 4-Star Weapon)

This is the best overall weapon for Yuanwu. It provides a massive 61.6% DEF boost at level 90 and also adds a 20% Resonance Liberation DMG bonus. Both stats feed directly into his kit. His Liberation is how you detonate the Thunder Wedge for big damage, so the Liberation DMG bonus lands cleanly. This weapon is much more accessible than any 5-star alternative and outperforms them for his specific scaling.

2. Abyssal Surges (5-Star Option)

If you happen to own this 5-star weapon, it works well on Yuanwu. It increases his Energy Regen, which means he can use his Liberation more often. The Basic Attack and Resonance Skill DMG bonuses also contribute to his overall output. A decent pick if you already have it, but not worth pulling specifically for him.

3. Gauntlets of Voyager (Best F2P Weapon)

This is the recommended free-to-play weapon at max refinement (R5). It gives a 30% DEF boost and provides extra energy within 20-second intervals. For players who simply want Yuanwu to function in a Jinhsi team without spending resources, this weapon is completely sufficient. At S0 with this weapon and even basic echoes, he can already contribute meaningfully.

4. Originite: Type IV (Budget Jinhsi Support Option)

This 3-star weapon is specifically recommended when running Yuanwu in a Jinhsi team with the Rejuvenating Glow echo set. It allows Yuanwu to heal himself through Basic Attacks, which activates the Rejuvenating Glow set bonus and boosts the team’s overall performance with zero extra investment.

Yuanwu Best Echo Set – What to Farm

Yuanwu has two main echo set options depending on whether you want to push his personal damage or lean into team support.

Void Thunder (5-Piece) – Best for Damage

Void Thunder is the best echo set for Yuanwu if you want to maximize his own damage output.

• 2-piece bonus: Electro DMG +10%
• 5-piece bonus: After using a Heavy Attack or Resonance Skill, Electro DMG Bonus increases by up to 30%

Both the 2-piece and 5-piece bonuses are relevant to his kit since his Resonance Skill is central to his gameplay. The main echo for this set is Tempest Mephis.

Moonlit Clouds (5-Piece) – Best for Team Support

If you prefer to lean into Yuanwu’s support role, Moonlit Clouds is the better pick.

Rejuvenating Glow (Jinhsi-Specific Option)

When running Yuanwu in a Jinhsi team, equip him with the Rejuvenating Glow set and pair it with the Originite: Type IV weapon. This lets him self-heal through Basic Attacks, activating the set’s buff for Jinhsi. The Moonlit Clouds set then goes on the healer to maximize Jinhsi’s buffs.

Best Echo Stats for Yuanwu

Use the standard 4-3-3-1-1 cost pattern. Here is what to aim for on each slot:

• 4-Cost Echo: CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG
• 3-Cost Echo x2: Electro DMG Bonus
• 1-Cost Echo x2: DEF%

For substats, prioritize CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, DEF%, Resonance Skill DMG, and Energy Regen. Since most of his kit scales off DEF, focus on DEF% when farming the 1-Cost echo slots. Do not use ATK% here — it does not benefit his kit.

Yuanwu Best Teams in Wuthering Waves 3.4

Yuanwu’s meta use case is focused. He is primarily an enabler for characters who benefit from Coordinated Attacks. His best team by far is built around Jinhsi.

Team 1 – Jinhsi Coordinated Attack Team (Best Team)

• Jinhsi – Main DPS (relies on Coordinated Attacks to build Incandescence stacks)
• Yuanwu – Sub-DPS and support (highest Coordinated Attack frequency in the game)
• Verina or Baizhi – Healer and support

This is Yuanwu’s best and most established team. Jinhsi needs Coordinated Attacks to build her Incandescence gauge faster, and Yuanwu’s Thunder Wedge delivers them at 100% uptime. He also weakens the enemy’s Vibration Strength with his Outro, letting you stagger bosses and make them vulnerable more often. The rotation for this team is: Jinhsi → Yuanwu → Healer → Jinhsi.

Note: If the healer runs Rejuvenating Glow, equip Yuanwu with Rejuvenating Glow and the healer with Moonlit Clouds to avoid overlap and maximize buff coverage for Jinhsi.

Team 2 – Electro Sub-DPS Team

• Any ATK-scaling main DPS
• Yuanwu – Off-field Electro damage and Vibration Strength reduction
• Shorekeeper or Verina – Healer

Yuanwu can slot into any team that benefits from off-field damage and faster boss stagger. He is not the strongest option outside of the Jinhsi team, but he works perfectly fine for general content and exploration.

F2P Team (All Free Characters)

• Rover (Spectro) – Main DPS
• Yuanwu – Sub-DPS and coordinated attack support
• Baizhi – Healer

This is a fully free team that works well for players who are new to the game or do not have premium characters yet. Yuanwu’s Vibration Strength damage helps you stagger enemies even with a budget lineup.

Yuanwu Rotation Guide

Yuanwu does not have a strict rotation like most DPS characters. His gameplay is simple and low-commitment. Follow these steps:

1. Swap in Yuanwu via Intro Skill
2. Cast Resonance Skill to place Thunder Wedge on the field
3. Use one Basic Attack to help build Forte Gauge
4. Swap back out to your main DPS — Thunder Wedge stays active and deals Coordinated Attacks
5. Swap back in every 3 seconds to refresh the Resonance Skill and keep Thunder Wedge up
6. When Forte Gauge is full, detonate the Thunder Wedge using his Liberation or by long-pressing Resonance Skill for burst damage
7. Use Outro Skill to reduce enemy Vibration Strength and swap back to main DPS

Keep enemies inside the Thunder Wedge’s range. If they move outside it, the Coordinated Attacks stop. This is his biggest limitation in fights with mobile bosses.

Yuanwu Skill Priority

Level his skills in this order:

1. Resonance Skill – Core of his kit; the Thunder Wedge damage and Coordinated Attack frequency both scale here
2. Forte Circuit – Governs his Forte Gauge detonation damage
3. Resonance Liberation – Useful for detonating the wedge and dealing burst Electro DMG
4. Normal Attack – Lower priority since most of his value comes from off-field
5. Intro Skill – Lowest priority

In the Jinhsi team specifically, you do not need to invest heavily in his Liberation. The Resonance Skill is all you really need to level first to keep the Coordinated Attacks flowing.

Yuanwu Sequence Nodes (Resonance Chains)

Yuanwu works at S0 with zero Sequence Nodes. He functions close to optimally without any duplicate investment, which means you should put your upgrade resources into your main DPS instead. Here is a quick overview of his notable nodes:

• S1: Increases Resonance Skill DMG and coordinated attack output slightly
• S4: Improves his DEF-scaling damage during the Lightning Infused state
• S6: Biggest power spike overall, but not worth chasing on a 4-star support

Do not feel pressured to pull duplicates. One free copy is enough.

Is Yuanwu Worth Building in Version 3.4?

Yuanwu WuWa is a niche but genuinely useful character. He is the only unit in the game with 100% uptime on Coordinated Attacks, which makes him the best battery for Jinhsi‘s Incandescence stacks. And since he is free, requires minimal investment, and takes almost no field time, there is no reason not to build him if you run Jinhsi.

Outside of Jinhsi teams, his value drops significantly. He does not buff the team through his Outro the way characters like Verina or Shorekeeper do. His Vibration Strength damage is unique and helpful, but not a reason to include him in every roster slot. Use him where he fits, and invest minimally — that is the smartest approach.
