TL;DR

  • There are 4 BSAA Containers in East Raccoon City, all opened as Leon
  • You need the BSAA Container Key — it’s unmissable and tied to story progress
  • Container 02 is the only one required to advance the story
  • Container 04 is the trickiest — it requires fuel, a generator, and a subway loop
  • Rewards include a sniper rifle, weapon charm, Legendary Tracking Module, and ammo
  • Opening all 4 unlocks the Crate Expectations trophy/achievement
  • Do NOT use the bomb before opening every container — it locks you out permanently

East Raccoon City is packed with optional loot, but the BSAA Containers are some of the best finds in the whole chapter. Most players open two or three and miss the rest. This guide covers every single container — where it is, how to reach it, and exactly what’s inside.

Before You Start: Get the BSAA Container Key

You can’t open any of the blue containers without the BSAA Container Key first. The good news is you can’t miss it.

Progress through the story until you reach the Underground Parking Garage in the Cedarbrook Apartments section. Find the two batteries and slot them into the fuse box to power the flooded gate. Exit back onto the street and a cutscene plays automatically. Leon picks up the BSAA Container Key from the body of a dead BSAA agent outside the Cedarbrook Apartments.

The key stays in your inventory and cannot be dropped. Once you have it, you’re free to open all 4 containers — though one of them takes a bit more work to reach.

Important Warning Before You Begin

Everything in East Raccoon City is missable. There is no chapter select in Resident Evil Requiem.

Once you use the bomb on the gate, you are locked out of this area for good. Open all 4 containers before you trigger the detonator. Keep a manual save at the start of this chapter just in case.

BSAA Container 01 — Outside Cedarbrook Apartments

How to reach it: You get this one for free. It’s sitting right next to the dead BSAA soldiers — the exact spot where the cutscene played and you got the key.

Open it immediately after the cutscene. No backtracking required.

Rewards: Ammo cache for various guns and a File that lists the contents of all remaining BSAA containers.

This file is handy because it tells you upfront whether the other containers are worth your time. Spoiler: they are.

BSAA Container 02 — BSAA Central Camp

How to reach it: Head back to the Central Camp — the area with the save point and Supply Box. The container is right of the tent.

This is the only BSAA Container that is actually required for story progress. You must open it to continue the main quest.

Rewards: Repair Kit + motorcycle.

The Repair Kit is critical — it’s used to build the explosive detonator later. The motorcycle comes into play once you’ve wrapped up your objectives in the zone.

Grab the Repair Kit right away. You can leave the motorcycle alone for now.

BSAA Container 03 — East Side Main Street (Near Crashed Truck)

How to reach it: Head east along the main road past the Gas Station. You’ll hit a stretch of abandoned and crashed vehicles on the highway. Follow the wrecked cars and look for a crashed truck near the end of the road where it starts to slope downward.

On the side of the truck, there’s a half-ladder. Approach it and press A (Xbox) / X (PlayStation) to grab and climb up. Follow the elevated path along the truck roof, then drop down into the enclosed area below.

You’ll see an explosive barrel right next to the container. Don’t blow it up yet. Open the container latch first. Several zombies and Blister Head enemies will spill out. Back away and then use the explosive barrel to clear the crowd quickly. Once they’re down, move to the large case at the back.

Rewards: Marksman 1A semi-automatic sniper rifle + rifle ammo.

The Marksman 1A fires faster and holds more ammo than your starting rifle. It’s not as powerful shot-for-shot, but it’s far better in situations where you’re fighting multiple targets at once. Your original rifle is still the better pick for boss weak spots.

BSAA Container 04 — Near The Applegate Hotel (Starting Area)

How to reach it: This is the one that trips people up. You walked right past this container when you first arrived in East Raccoon City — before you had the key. Now you have to get back there, and you can’t walk straight back.

Here’s the route:

  1. Get the Gas Can with Fuel from the Gas Station — see our generator fuel guide if you haven’t done this yet
  2. Head north of the Central Camp to the gas generator next to the construction site gate
  3. Fill the generator with fuel — this opens the gate and reveals a ladder going underground
  4. Drop down the ladder into the Ridgewood Subway Station
  5. Follow the tunnel to the left, then continue left through the abandoned train car
  6. Head north and you’ll find a shortcut that loops back to the very start of East Raccoon City
  7. Come up on the surface and you’ll be right outside The Applegate Hotel

The container is right there waiting for you.

Rewards: BSAA Emblem Charm + Tracking Module (Legendary) worth 8,600 Credits.

The BSAA Emblem Charm boosts rifle damage — but only when no scope is equipped. It pairs perfectly with the Marksman 1A from Container 03, which you likely aren’t using a scope on anyway. The Tracking Module is a Legendary item you can sell or redeem for a solid chunk of credits.

Crate Expectations Trophy / Achievement

Open all 4 BSAA Containers and you’ll unlock the Crate Expectations trophy/achievement. It’s fully missable, so make sure you grab every container before using the bomb.

A quick checklist before you trigger the detonator:

  • Container 01 — Outside Cedarbrook Apartments (grab right after cutscene)
  • Container 02 — Central Camp, right of the tent (story-required)
  • Container 03 — East side, near crashed truck with half-ladder
  • Container 04 — Near Applegate Hotel, reached via Ridgewood Subway Station

Are the Containers Worth It?

Yes — especially Containers 03 and 04. The Marksman 1A is a genuinely useful rifle for the rest of the chapter, and the BSAA Emblem Charm gives it even more bite. The Tracking Module alone is worth 8,600 credits, which goes a long way at the Supply Box.

Container 02 you have to open anyway. Container 01 takes five seconds. There’s really no reason to skip any of them.
