  • It unlocks 4 blue containers in East Raccoon City, all as Leon
  • One container (Container 02) is required to progress the story

  • The key is consumed after all containers are opened — don’t miss any before the bomb goes off

If you’ve spotted those big blue shipping containers in East Raccoon City and couldn’t open them, you’re not alone. Most players walk right past them early on and have no idea when the key shows up. The good news? You can’t miss it. Here’s everything you need to know about the BSAA Container Key in Resident Evil Requiem — where to get it and what’s inside every container.

How to Get the BSAA Container Key in RE9

You get the BSAA Container Key automatically during a cutscene. There’s nothing tricky about it.

Here’s when it happens:

Progress through the story until you reach the Underground Parking Garage in the Cedarbrook Apartments section. You’ll need to find two batteries and slot them into the fuse box next to the flooded gate. Once the gate opens and you exit back onto the street, a cutscene triggers.

After clearing out the Underground Parking Garage, Leon emerges back on street level. The cutscene plays, and Leon picks up the BSAA Container Key from the body of a dead BSAA agent outside the Cedarbrook Apartments. It’s gory, it’s quick, and you get the key automatically. It cannot be dropped or removed from your inventory.

How Many BSAA Containers Are There?

There are 4 BSAA Containers total in Resident Evil Requiem. All of them are found exclusively as Leon during the East Raccoon City area. They look like big blue shipping containers.

The containers get marked on your map when you walk near them. So if you already passed one before getting the key, it’ll show up on the map when you circle back.

Important warning: Once you blow the gates up with the bomb, you cannot return to this area. Open all containers before you use the detonator.

All BSAA Container Locations and Rewards

Container 01 — Outside Cedarbrook Apartments

Location: Right next to where you get the key.

Container 01 is right beside the dead BSAA soldiers — the same spot where the cutscene played. You can open it immediately after getting the key.

Rewards: Ammo for various guns and a note listing what’s inside all the other containers.

This one is easy. It’s directly in front of you after the cutscene ends. No backtracking needed.

Container 02 — BSAA Central Camp

Location: At the Central Camp, to the right of the tent near the save point and supply box.

This is the only container that is actually required to progress the story. Inside you’ll find the Repair Kit for the explosive detonator, and a motorcycle for Leon to use later.

Rewards: Repair Kit (required for story progress) + motorcycle.

The motorcycle matters later when you’re wrapping up your objectives in this zone. For now, grab the Repair Kit and keep moving. This connects directly to the detonator build — check our full detonator parts guide if you’re stuck.

Container 03 — East Side Main Street (Near Crashed Truck)

Location: Far east of the main street, past the gas station and the piled-up cars on the highway.

Head east down the main road past the Gas Station. You’ll reach a bunch of crashed and stacked vehicles. Look for a truck with a half-ladder on the side. Approach it and press A (Xbox) / X (PlayStation) to jump up. Follow the short elevated path, then drop down into a tucked-away area where the container is sitting.

Be ready when you open it. Several zombies will spill out, including some Blister Heads. There’s an explosive barrel nearby — use it to clear the infected quickly before going for the loot.

Rewards: The Marksman 1A semi-automatic sniper rifle + rifle ammo.

The Marksman 1A deals less damage than your starting rifle but fires faster, holds more ammo, and reloads quicker. It’s great for crowds. Your original rifle is still better for boss weak spots.

Container 04 — Near The Applegate Hotel (Starting Area)

Location: Back at the very beginning of East Raccoon City, just before The Applegate Hotel. This is the one most players miss.

You walked past this container when you first arrived in Raccoon City. At that point, you didn’t have the key yet. Now you need to backtrack.

Here’s how to get back: After the gas station encounter, fill the fuel tank and refuel the generator near the large hole. Kill the zombies and drop down the ladder. This takes you into the Ridgewood Subway Station. Follow the tunnel through the abandoned train car, head north, and you’ll find a shortcut back to the starting area. Come up on the surface and you’ll be right near the Applegate Hotel — and Container 04.

Rewards: The BSAA Emblem Charm (increases rifle damage when no scope is equipped) + Tracking Module (Legendary) worth 8,600 Credits.

The BSAA Emblem Charm pairs really well with the Marksman 1A you picked up from Container 03.

Crate Expectations Trophy / Achievement

Opening all 4 BSAA Containers unlocks the Crate Expectations trophy and achievement. All four must be opened before you use the bomb. After that, you’re locked out of the area permanently.

Plan your route so you hit every container before triggering the end of the East Raccoon City chapter.

Quick Tips Before You Start

  • Grab Container 01 right after the cutscene — it’s right there
  • Container 02 is story-required, so you won’t miss it
  • Container 03 needs a bit of climbing — look for the truck ladder on the east side
  • Container 04 requires backtracking through the subway — do it before the bomb
  • After all 4 containers are opened, the key disappears from your inventory
