Beast Of Reincarnation Chapter And Quest List — Overview

The Beast Of Reincarnation chapter and quest list is simpler than most action RPGs. There are no branching paths and no side quests. Everything you do in this game is part of the main campaign. The story progresses through 13 chapters plus an Epilogue, each set in a different region across a ruined Japan in the year 4026. You play as Emma, a young woman known as the Purifier, alongside her dog companion Koo.

Before you dive in, it helps to know the basics. How Many Chapters Are In Beast Of Reincarnation?

There are 13 main chapters plus an Epilogue called Bearing Fruit. Each chapter has a unique name that follows a botanical theme — from growth to decay and back to life again. The structure is deliberate. Read the chapter names in order and you see a plant’s entire life cycle: germination, growth, disease, decay, rebirth, and fruit. In a game about a world consumed by Blight and a protagonist who commands plants, that is not a coincidence.

Two chapter names break the botanical pattern: Chapter 3 (The Vessel) and Chapter 10 (Malefact). Both refer to bodies and the things that inhabit them — terms the game uses consistently throughout its lore.

All 13 Chapters — Full List With Regions

Below is the complete Beast Of Reincarnation chapter and quest list in story order, with the region each chapter takes place in.

  • Chapter 1 — Seedling | Kanto Region: Ogouchi Buffer Zone

  • Chapter 3 — The Vessel | Mountainous Region: The Great Wall Terraces
  • Chapter 4 — Stems | Mountainous Region: Pilgrim’s Zone
  • Chapter 5 — Branching Paths | Mountainous Region: Matsukawa Zone
  • Chapter 6 — Necrosis | Mountainous Region: Fuji Frontier Zone
  • Chapter 7 — Root Rot | Drowned Region: Giant Tree Zone, Ooi Colony
  • Chapter 8 — Worm Food | Wasteland Region: Crater Zone
  • Chapter 9 — Branching Out | Wasteland Region: Inukami River Zone
  • Chapter 10 — Malefact | Wasteland Region: Starfall Tower
  • Chapter 11 — Budding Realization | Capital Outskirt
  • Chapter 12 — The Firmament | The Capital
  • Chapter 13 — To Bloom, Then Fall | The Capital
  • Epilogue — Bearing Fruit

The Five Regional Groupings

The 13 chapters are spread across five main regions. Here is how the chapters map to each area:

  • Kanto Region — Chapters 1 and 2. Based on real western Tokyo, around the Ogouchi Dam and Lake Okutama.
  • Mountainous Region — Chapters 3 to 6. Covers the Great Wall Terraces, Pilgrim’s Zone, Matsukawa, and Fuji Frontier.
  • Drowned Region — Chapter 7. The Giant Tree Zone and Ooi Colony.
  • Wasteland Region — Chapters 8 to 10. The Crater Zone, Inukami River Zone, and Starfall Tower.
  • The Capital — Chapters 11 to 13. Entered via the Capital Outskirt and ending at the Capital itself.

The geography is rooted in real Japan. Ogouchi is an actual reservoir west of Tokyo. Matsukawa and Inukami are real rivers. The Ancient Civilization Zone in Chapter 2 is a quiet but pointed detail — the ancient civilization is ours, set two thousand years in the future.

Chapter By Chapter — What Happens In Each

Chapter 1 — Seedling (Kanto Region: Ogouchi Buffer Zone)

This is the opening chapter and your introduction to everything the game does. Chapter 1 teaches you Emma’s sword combat and hair traversal, Koo’s Bloom Arts, the parry system, and archery. You investigate a ruined village, fight your way into a subcity, defeat six golems and a Door Golem to reach a foreman, then chase the region’s Nushi — Rangifer — to its lair. You need to collect three colored keys, including the Red Key, to unlock the sealed lair and fight Rangifer in a two-stage rematch.

If you get stuck on the Red Key during this chapter, our guide on how to get the Red Key in Beast Of Reincarnation walks you through exactly where to find it and what it unlocks.

Chapter 2 — Creeping Tendrils (Kanto Region: Ancient Civilization Zone)

Chapter 2 takes you deeper into the Kanto Region, this time into the Ancient Civilization Zone. You explore ruins that hint at the world that once existed before the Blight. The chapter introduces more complex environmental puzzles and ends with another Nushi encounter. This zone is one of the more lore-rich areas of the early game. Our dedicated Ancient Civilization Zone guide covers what to find and how to navigate it.

Chapter 3 — The Vessel (Mountainous Region: The Great Wall Terraces)

The story shifts to the Mountainous Region here. The Great Wall Terraces introduce elevated terrain and longer traversal challenges. Chapter 3 focuses on environmental puzzles involving power systems before delivering another Nushi battle. The name “The Vessel” breaks the botanical chapter naming pattern — it refers to bodies and what inhabits them, a theme that becomes more important as the story develops.

Chapter 4 — Stems (Mountainous Region: Pilgrim’s Zone)

Chapter 4 pushes you through the Pilgrim’s Zone. Players explore elevated terrain while chasing a powerful Malefact through the mountains. The Taurus is the boss encounter waiting at the end, and it is considered one of the harder early-game Nushi fights. The chapter ends with Emma resting in the Cleanse Walker before Chapter 5 begins.

Chapter 5 — Branching Paths (Mountainous Region: Matsukawa Zone)

Chapter 5 is heavy on exploration and enemy encounters. The main objective is to open the gates of the Matsukawa Colony and defeat the boss of the area. You start the chapter resting in the Cleanse Walker after the events of Chapter 4. The Matsukawa Zone is one of the wider open areas in this region and rewards players who take time to explore before pushing to the objective.

Chapter 6 — Necrosis (Mountainous Region: Fuji Frontier Zone)

The Fuji Frontier Zone is where the Mountainous Region reaches its darkest point. The name Necrosis refers to plant death and decay — the title signals a turning point in the story’s tone. This chapter centers on ancient ruins and environmental progression puzzles. It is slightly shorter than the previous chapters but delivers major story revelations that reframe what you have seen so far.

Chapter 7 — Root Rot (Drowned Region: Giant Tree Zone, Ooi Colony)

Chapter 7 moves you into the Drowned Region and the Giant Tree Zone. Ooi Colony is the main hub here. The name Root Rot continues the decay theme from Chapter 6 — this is the midpoint of the story’s descent before things begin to turn around. The Giant Tree Zone is the one region whose name directly matches the botanical chapter theme. It is also a visually distinct area compared to everything before it.

Chapter 8 — Worm Food (Wasteland Region: Crater Zone)

The Wasteland Region begins here. Chapter 8 is set in the Crater Zone, which contains a well-known XP farming spot out west of the Crater Outskirt. The name Worm Food represents decomposition — the story is at its lowest point before the rebuild begins. The chapter ends in dramatic fashion, and Chapter 9 picks up with Emma in a very different situation as a result.

Chapter 9 — Branching Out (Wasteland Region: Inukami River Zone)

After the events of Chapter 8, Emma wakes up inside the Bauera in the Inukami River Colony with no memory of what happened and without Koo. Kagura asks you to find Overseer Gigi, who tells you about the Crimson Malefact — a dangerous Nushi roaming the region. You gather information from four individuals, track down the Crimson Malefact, and defeat it. Doing so ends the chapter and reunites Emma with her companion.

Chapter 10 — Malefact (Wasteland Region: Starfall Tower)

Malefact of Fate Quest
Malefact of Fate Quest

Starfall Tower is the only named structure in the game that is not described as a zone. The pursuit of Shidou’s Malefact is the central objective here. Chapter 10 is the second chapter to break the botanical naming pattern alongside Chapter 3. The Malefact theme runs deep throughout the game’s lore, and this chapter puts it front and centre. Our Malefact of Fate quest guide is worth reading before you tackle this chapter.

Chapter 11 — Budding Realization (Capital Outskirt)

The botanical theme returns as the story begins to rebuild. Chapter 11 takes place in the Capital Outskirt — the gateway to the endgame. This is the buildup chapter before the final stretch. Make sure you have explored everything you want before entering the Capital, because the end is close at this point.

Chapter 12 — The Firmament (The Capital)

You are now inside the Capital. Chapter 12 is the second-to-last chapter and sets up the final confrontation. The story reaches its peak tension here. Collect anything you still need before pushing through, as the point of no return is within reach.

Chapter 13 — To Bloom, Then Fall (The Capital)

The final chapter. Everything in the story comes together here, ending with the final boss battle that concludes the main campaign. The name perfectly mirrors the game’s title — something blooms, and then it falls. After Chapter 13, the Epilogue begins.

Epilogue — Bearing Fruit

The Epilogue wraps up the story after Chapter 13. It is the natural end of Emma’s journey. Once the Epilogue ends, New Game Plus becomes available and you can begin a second run with your build carried over.

Are There Side Quests In Beast Of Reincarnation?

No. Beast Of Reincarnation does not have side quests. Every quest in the game is part of the main story. All tasks are mandatory, and progression is completely linear from Chapter 1 to the Epilogue. What the game does offer instead is open exploration within each region before you trigger the next chapter. You decide when you are done with a zone and ready to move forward.

This is why activities like planting seeds in the growing chamber and cooking at campsites matter. They are not side content — they are the way you upgrade and prepare between chapters. If you are unsure what to grow, our guide on which seed to plant in Beast Of Reincarnation will help you make the most of your resources.

Point Of No Return — When Does It Happen?

For most of the game, you can fast travel freely between all unlocked regions. This changes when you enter the final stretch of the story. Once you reach the point of no return, you can no longer return to earlier regions.

Before this happens, go back and complete any exploration you have been putting off. Collect everything you have missed, upgrade your skills fully, and make sure your weapons and build are ready. The game will warn you when the point of no return is approaching — do not ignore that warning.

Important note: nothing in the game is technically missable. The Platinum trophy requires a full New Game Plus run anyway, so any chapter or item you skipped can be recovered in your second playthrough.

What Unlocks After You Finish The Story?

Completing the Epilogue unlocks New Game Plus. In this mode, you replay the entire story from Chapter 1 with your skills, weapon enhancements, and attributes carried over. New Game Plus also introduces the Reincarnation+ difficulty tier, which is harder than the standard Hard mode.

The Reincarnated trophy — required for Platinum — is locked behind a full New Game+ completion. This means a single playthrough is never enough for 100%. Plan your first run with this in mind.

If you want to see every achievement before starting your NG+ run, our full list of all achievements in Beast Of Reincarnation is the best place to start. And if you want to know specific puzzle solutions before you get stuck, our guide on how to light a fire in the proper order in Beast Of Reincarnation covers one of the trickier early-game mechanics.

Quick Tips For Going Through The Chapters

  • Explore each zone fully before moving on. Once you trigger the next chapter, you cannot return until NG+. There is no rush — stay and find everything.
  • Rest at every campfire you find. Campfires upgrade your skills and cook Malefact Meat automatically. Never walk past one.
  • Use Koo constantly. Koo senses nearby enemies and items. Let him guide you through each zone rather than running in circles trying to find things yourself.
  • Learn the parry system early. Parrying generates FP for Koo’s Bloom Arts. The better your timing, the smoother every chapter goes.
  • Adjust your language settings before Chapter 1. If you want to switch voice tracks, our guide on how to change the voice over language in Beast Of Reincarnation shows you exactly how to do it.
  • Save Hard mode for NG+. Your full build carries over, making the harder difficulty far more manageable on a second run.
