TL;DR
- Watch the dealer’s elbow when they draw cards — this is the key tell.
- Elbow up and grabbing from above = honest draw.
- Elbow tucked and grabbing from the side = cheating.
- Accuse quickly or the window closes and they get away with it.
- A wrong accusation gets you banned from the den for one in-game day.
- Catching cheaters is one of the best Silver farming methods in the game.
The gambling dens of Pywel are not just fun distractions. They are one of the fastest ways to stack Silver in Crimson Desert. But the NPCs sitting across from you are not playing clean. They cheat. And if you do not know what to look for, you will walk away broke.
The good news is that the game gives you all the tools you need to catch them in the act. You just have to know where to look.
This guide covers exactly how to spot a cheater in both Duo and Five-Card, what happens when you accuse correctly, and what to avoid so you do not get banned yourself.
Where Are the Gambling Dens?
Before getting into the cheating mechanic, it helps to know where each game is located.
Duo is available in two locations. The first is Hernand, which is the earliest town you visit in the main campaign. The buy-in here is just 15 Silver, making it a great place to practice. The second location is Tommaso, a settlement in the Tashkalp region. Buy-in there is 300 Silver, and it offers the biggest Duo pots in the game.
Five-Card is only available in the village of Beighen. The buy-in is 150 Silver per session.
If you want to check out the Duo card game guide for a full breakdown of hands and rules, that is worth a read before you start betting big.
The One Tell You Need to Know
This is the heart of the whole mechanic. When a player is dealing cards, watch their elbow and their hand position. That is it. That is the whole system.
Here is what to look for:

Normal draw (not cheating): The dealer lifts their elbow above the rim of the cup and grabs the card from the top with their hand facing normally. Clean deal. Nothing to worry about.

Cheating draw: The dealer tucks their elbow in below the rim of the cup and grabs the card from the side, with the back of their hand facing the table. That is the tell. They are sliding a card into their sleeve.
In Five-Card, the dealer moves slightly faster, so you have to watch even more closely. But the animation itself is the same across both game types.

How to Accuse a Cheater
Once you spot the cheating animation, you have a short window to act. Hold the Accuse button prompt that appears on screen. Do not wait too long. If you miss that window, the opportunity is gone and they get to keep cheating freely for the rest of the round.
If your accusation is correct, the match enforcer steps in. The cheater gets their hand chopped off, loses their pot, and is removed from the game. Their Silver is then split evenly among all remaining players. If you are the last one at the table, you get all of it.
This is why many players use a save-scum strategy. You create a manual save outside the den, sit down, catch all the cheaters, and collect everyone’s Silver. If something goes wrong, you just reload. It is one of the most consistent ways to make money fast in the game, especially at the Tommaso den where the pots are worth chasing.
What Happens If You Accuse the Wrong Person?
This is where it gets punishing. If you accuse someone who was not cheating, you are the one who gets kicked out. You also lose all the Silver you put into that match.
On top of that, you get temporarily banned from the gambling den. The ban lasts one in-game day, which translates to roughly two real-time hours. You can shorten it by resting twelve hours in a bed or at a bonfire, cutting the wait in half.
So only accuse when you are sure. Do not guess.
Group Cheating in Five-Card
In Five-Card, there is an extra layer to watch out for. Two NPCs at the table may occasionally signal each other before a high bet. If you notice one NPC glance toward another and nod just before raising, there is a good chance one of them is holding a tucked card.
Pay attention to betting behavior alongside the physical tells. If a player is betting aggressively but you did not see an honest draw from them, it is worth watching them closely on the next deal.
How to Learn the Cheat Ability Yourself
The game also lets Kliff cheat at the tables. You unlock this by watching opponents cheat enough times. During early rounds, some opponents will glow with a blue outline when they perform their cheat animation. This happens when the game is teaching you the move.
Watch that glowing animation three separate times across different sessions. Once you have seen it three times, you permanently unlock the Cheat ability.
When it is Kliff’s turn to deal, hold the Hide Hand prompt. The game pauses and lets you manually pick one card to insert into your hand. For Duo, aim for a Red 1. For Five-Card, a Red 3 or Red 8 is ideal since those are one step away from the Prime Pair, which is the strongest hand in Five-Card.
Keep in mind that NPCs also have the ability to catch you cheating. So use it wisely and only when the payoff is worth the risk. Many experienced players say it is actually better to just watch and catch others, since the Silver reward for catching cheaters is consistent and risk-free.
Silver Farming Tips at the Gambling Den
If you want to turn this into a reliable income stream, here are some quick tips:
Always make a manual save outside the den before sitting down. Never save inside the gambling area.
At the Tommaso Duo den, the buy-in is 300 Silver and there can be up to three other players at the table. Catching all three cheaters can net you 900 Silver in one sitting with no cards needed.
Try to sit at tables with at least two opponents. A one-on-one match limits how much you can earn even if you catch them cheating.

Quick Recap: The Cheater Tell at a Glance
| Situation | What It Means |
