What Are the Camp Donation Quests?
After the camp expands in Chapter 3, a questline called “For a Better Tomorrow” becomes available at Howling Hill. It’s a Greymanes faction quest that asks you to donate large amounts of resources to Carl, the camp’s provisions keeper.
There are four sub-quests, each focused on a different resource type:

The numbers escalate significantly across all five tiers. If you try to complete this the normal way — gathering everything yourself — it becomes one of the biggest grinds in the game. Many players spend 50+ hours working through the upper tiers.
Important to know upfront: this questline is fully optional. It raises your Greymane contribution level, which increases the number of items you can obtain from camp and boosts donation rewards over time. But it does not unlock new story content or drop unique gear. Decide whether the grind is worth it for you.

Where to Find Carl
Carl, the Provisions Keeper, is located at the Howling Hill camp. Zoom into your camp map and look for the Provisions Keeper icon. He stands in the central area near his tent. Behind his tent is a chest containing your personal stash.
If Carl isn’t at his spot, he’s likely unavailable due to a main quest story beat involving the Greymanes. Wait until that quest resolves and he’ll return.
What Counts as a Donation
Each resource type has specific items that qualify:
Well-Stocked Coffers (Funds/Weapons): Silver, copper coins, sellable items, and dropped weapons all count. Rusted Blades and Broken Bows from low-level enemies work perfectly here.
A Bountiful Table (Food): Cooked meals, raw ingredients with food donation value, harvested crops, and other consumable food items. Check the donation value listed on any food item before giving it.
Sturdy Support (Timber): Any wood or timber material. Almost every tree in the world can be chopped, making this one of the more farmable categories.
A Firm Foundation (Stone/Ore/Minerals): Mined stone, ores, and minerals. Stone itself has a low drop rate compared to ore at most nodes. The best spot for stone specifically is the quarry area — look for small rectangular and medium-sized square stacks of mined stone sitting around the quarry floor. They give random drops when mined, and stone comes up regularly.
One important note: dispatch missions do not count toward these quests. Only items physically donated by Kliff through Carl’s menu register progress. This trips up a lot of players who assume their comrades’ resource missions are contributing.
The Fast Method: Package Provisions Exploit
There is a well-known exploit using the Package Provisions menu that lets you complete all four donation quests in roughly 60 seconds without actually spending your resources permanently. Here’s how it works:
Step 1 – Talk to Carl
Head to Carl at Howling Hill and interact with him. Select “Camp Provisions” from his menu.
Step 2 – Open Package Provisions
Press L3 to open the “Package Provisions” option. This is where you select the category you want to donate to — Camp Food, Camp Timber, Camp Stone, or Camp Weapons.
Step 3 – Donate the Maximum Amount
Select your chosen category and press Square (PS) / X (Xbox) to give Carl the maximum amount available from your inventory.
Step 4 – Take It All Back
Immediately press the Left D-Pad to take back all the items you just donated before confirming or closing out of the menu entirely.
The game registers the donation for quest tracking purposes but gives the resources back to your inventory. The quest counter updates and you keep your materials.
Step 5 – Repeat for All Four Categories
Go through the same process for Food, Timber, Stone, and Weapons one by one. Each category’s sub-quest should complete as you cycle through them.
A few things to keep in mind when using this method:
This does not work for Camp Coins/Silver. The coin donation is handled separately and attempting to manipulate it can cause an inventory sync error that forces a restart. Only use the exploit for the four physical resource categories.
Save before you start. Create a manual save at camp before attempting this. If the quest tracker doesn’t update correctly, you can reload and try again cleanly.
Do all four in one sitting. The safest approach is to complete all four categories back-to-back in the same session so the game doesn’t have a chance to save a state that resets your progress.
This is a glitch. Pearl Abyss will likely patch this at some point. If you find it no longer works, the legitimate farming methods below still apply.
Legitimate Methods: Farming Resources Efficiently
If the exploit gets patched or you prefer to complete the quests the intended way, here are the fastest farming approaches for each category.
Timber
This is the easiest category. Almost every tree in the world is choppable. Work your way through Howling Hill’s surrounding forest and the woodlands between Hernand and the surrounding region. Keep a pickaxe or axe on hand and chop as you travel rather than making dedicated farming trips.
Stone and Ore
Stone is the most annoying resource to farm because it drops at a lower rate than ore from most mining nodes. The quarry area is your best bet. There are small rectangle and medium-size square stacks of mined stone sitting around the quarry floor. Mine these — they give random drops and stone comes up often enough to make it worthwhile. You’ll also pick up iron ore, copper ore, and other minerals as a bonus. Food
Food drops from cooking, harvesting, and enemy loot. The most efficient approach is to donate excess ingredients and cooked items you’re accumulating naturally rather than making dedicated food runs. Hides, wool, and cloth also count toward food donations in some cases. Weapons and Funds
Enemy drops are your main source here. Kill bandits, loot everything, and donate the junk weapons — Rusted Blades, Broken Bows, and similar low-quality drops work perfectly. Church Donations: A Separate System Worth Using
While you’re building up your camp, don’t confuse the “For a Better Tomorrow” donation quests with the Church Donation Box system — these are two different things that both matter.
Church Donation Boxes are found in churches across each region. You donate Camp Funds to them, not physical resources. In return, you get a permanent Conversion Bonus on Dispatch Missions in that region. Stacking this bonus past 100% effectively doubles the rewards your comrades bring back from missions. It’s one of the best long-term investments in the game.

Tips to Make Camp Management Smoother
Running the camp well is about setting systems up, not grinding manually. A few things that help:
Keep Shield missions running constantly through Ross. These passively generate Camp Funds in the background while you’re out exploring. An idle Greymane earns nothing, so always have something assigned.
Donate junk loot to Carl rather than selling it for copper. Broken gear, leftover food, and excess materials all count as provisions and free up your inventory at the same time. This is much better than throwing items out or selling for minimal coin.

After donating to Carl, explore the camp for newly placed reward items. Boxes of silver and sacks of harvested goods appear around his tent after donation milestones are hit — don’t miss them.
