Skyroot is one of those resources that trips players up for all the wrong reasons. The location is not that hard to find. The problem is the game never tells you that you need a specific tool to harvest it. Walk up to the trees empty-handed and nothing happens. No prompt, no interaction — just you staring at a bush wondering what you are doing wrong.
Once you know what to bring, it takes less than two minutes to collect a full batch. Here is everything you need to know.
What Is Skyroot Used for in Crimson Desert?
Before hunting for it, it helps to know why Skyroot is worth your time.
Abyss Gear crafting — Skyroot is a key ingredient for crafting Vigor Abyss Gears, specifically Vigor I, which permanently increases your Stamina Regeneration rate when socketed into equipment. Cooking — Skyroot is one of the main ingredients in the Tart Special Meal. When consumed, it reduces your Stamina Costs by 10% for three minutes. That is a meaningful edge in extended boss fights and difficult combat encounters. Research quests — Skyroot is tied to the Scholastone Institute faction quest called “Skyroot Research Halted.” Completing the research chain also unlocks the ability to extract Skyroot Seeds from wild plants, which opens up a much more sustainable supply method later on.
Where to Find Skyroot in Crimson Desert
Main Location — West of Kilnden Workshop, Hernand
The most reliable and accessible Skyroot patch in the game is in western Hernand. Here is exactly how to get there.
Find the Kilnden Workshop on your map — this is the same workshop where you unlock the Kuku Pot during Chapter 4. From the workshop, head directly west up the hill. Keep going until you reach a dense, thorny thicket near the top.
Inside the thicket you are looking for two small trees covered in star-shaped leaves. Those trees are your target. The Skyroot is in the root system at the base, not the leaves or branches. Walk around the base of the trees and the harvest prompt will appear on screen.
This single patch yields around ten Skyroots per visit. That is a solid haul for a rare material. Once you clear both trees, you are done at this location until the respawn timer resets.
There is also a second location noted in the Knowledge tab of your Journal — the Crimson Desert region further north contains more Skyroot patches, but those areas are high-level and dangerous for mid-game players. The western Hernand spot near Kilnden is the go-to location for anyone who is not yet in the late game.
How to Harvest Skyroot in Crimson Desert — You Need a Shovel
This is where most players get stuck. Skyroot cannot be picked up with your bare hands. Unlike flowers and herbs you can grab while running past, Skyroot is buried in the ground. You need a shovel equipped to trigger the harvest prompt.
If you show up without one, nothing will happen when you interact with the trees. No prompt, no animation — the game simply ignores you.
The easy fix: there is a shovel leaning against a wooden post right next to the two Skyroot trees at the Kilnden Workshop location. You do not need to bring one from town. Just pick it up from the post, equip it using your equipment wheel, and walk around the base of the star-leaved trees. The harvest prompt will appear. Press the button shown and your character will dig up the roots.
You do not need to aim precisely at the roots. Just having the shovel equipped and walking near the base of the trees is enough for the prompts to trigger.
If you prefer to bring your own shovel, you can buy one from the Provisioner’s Shop in Hernand Town. Shovels take up inventory space and add weight, so if you are running tight on carry capacity, pick up the one at the site, harvest everything, then drop it before heading out. Important bug note: Some players report that an upgraded shovel does not work for the Scholastone quest version of this harvest. If the interact prompt is not appearing during the quest, switch to an unupgraded shovel. There is always a basic one at the site for exactly this reason.
How Long Does Skyroot Take to Respawn in Crimson Desert?
Skyroot respawns every seven in-game days. Natural resources in Crimson Desert run on a strict timer. Once you clear a patch, you have to move on and let the clock tick down before returning.
If you need to burn time, sleep at the Howling Hill camp, a tavern, or a bonfire to pass days quickly. How to Get More Skyroot in Crimson Desert — The Research and Farm Method
If ten Skyroots every seven days is not keeping up with your crafting needs, there is a better long-term solution.
Complete the Scholastone Research Projects
The Scholastone Institute has research projects tied to Skyroot. Completing these projects unlocks the ability to extract Skyroot Seeds from wild plants when you harvest them. Once you have seeds, you can take them back to your Greymanes Camp at Howling Hill and plant them in your own farm plots.
Your own farm completely eliminates the need to travel out to the Kilnden Workshop location repeatedly. You harvest at camp, water and fertilize the plots, and collect on your own schedule. This is the most efficient long-term supply method in the game.

Look for Skyroot in the Crimson Desert Region
The Journal’s Knowledge tab notes that Skyroot also grows in the Crimson Desert region further north. These patches tend to be in more dangerous territory, but later-game players with strong mounts can move between these locations quickly for higher yields. Skyroot and the Scholastone Research Halted Quest in Crimson Desert
If you picked up the Scholastone faction quest “Skyroot Research Halted,” here is how to complete it without wasting time.
Speak to the Scholastone Research Assistant at Ivynook village in Hernand — the village sits roughly between the A and N in “Hernand” on the map. He will explain that Skyroot is a rare medicinal herb and mark the harvest location on your map for you.
Head to the marked spot, which leads to the Kilnden Workshop area described above. Equip your shovel, walk around the base of the star-leaved trees, and harvest the Skyroot when the prompt appears. Remember — if the prompt is not showing, use an unupgraded shovel.
Once harvested, you will receive the Skyroot Knowledge entry in your Journal and the quest will update. Return to the Research Assistant at Ivynook to hand it in and continue the research chain.
What to Do With Skyroot Once You Have It in Crimson Desert
Do not eat raw Skyroot unless you are in a pinch. Consuming it raw gives a brief burst of unlimited stamina, but that is a wasteful use of a rare resource.
The best uses in order of priority:
Craft Vigor I Abyss Gears first. Socketing Vigor I into your weapon or armor permanently improves Stamina Regeneration, which has ongoing value in every fight for the rest of the game. This pairs especially well with stamina-heavy builds. Cook it into the Tart Special Meal for the 10% Stamina Cost reduction buff. This is particularly useful going into difficult boss encounters and endgame content.
