Crimson Desert: How to Get the Silver Fang Legendary Mount

Get the Silver Fang legendary wolf mount in Crimson Desert. Full guide on unlocking the Legendary Wolf quest, beating Black Fang, finding Howling Hollow, and crafting the Sigil.

TL;DR

  • Silver Fang is a legendary white wolf mount added in patch 1.01.00 — the most quest-gated of all the new legendary mounts
  • Prerequisites: Complete enough Hernand Faction Quests to unlock the Legendary Wolf chain under House Celeste, starting with Silence from Afar
  • Required house quests include: Queen of the Silkspun Cradle (House Celeste), all House Roberts and House Alfonso quests, Solumen of Hernand Parish to 4/6, and The Hellhounds
  • Once Silence from Afar is active, track and defeat Black Fang in the Forest of Wolves north of The Sage’s Peak using your Lantern to follow the golden trail — Black Fang must be beaten twice
  • Black Fang drops Leebur’s Soul — use it to permanently reveal all legendary animal locations on your map
  • After Black Fang is defeated, Silver Fang spawns in Howling Hollow cave, north of The Sage’s Peak in Hernand
  • Kill Silver Fang, then skin it to collect the Fang of Silver Fang key item — do not skip the skinning step
  • Silver Fang is weak to lightning attacks, which stun it briefly
  • Watch for the purple plants around the cave — they drain your HP continuously if you stand on them
  • Take the Fang of Silver Fang to any Witch → Craft Abyss Gear → Special Items → craft Sigil of Solidarity (Silver Fang)
  • Use the Sigil from your inventory to permanently unlock Silver Fang, then select it via D-pad Down + Right Stick + R2 to cycle mounts
  • Silver Fang is unique: it fights alongside you independently even when dismounted, functioning as a combat companion not just a ride
  • Chapter 5 completion (Guest Unbidden: Black and White / The Missing Seal quest) required before the Sigil can be crafted

Riding a white wolf through the forests of Hernand is one of the best-looking things you can do in Crimson Desert. Silver Fang is also the only mount in the game with an independent combat AI — when you dismount to fight on foot, it stays in the battle and attacks enemies on its own. That alone sets it apart from every other mount in the game.

The catch is that Silver Fang has the most involved unlock path of any legendary mount. No shortcut, no workaround — you have to put in the Hernand faction quest work before it even spawns. This guide covers every step from unlocking the quest to summoning the wolf.

What Makes Silver Fang Different

Before getting into the steps, it is worth understanding what you are working toward.

Silver Fang is a permanent legendary mount that fights alongside you. Unlike the White Bear — which is a pure power mount with high HP and damage — Silver Fang functions more like a combat companion. When you dismount and engage enemies on foot, Silver Fang does not retreat. It stays in the fight, attacks independently, and can even initiate on enemies by itself.

The trade-off is that Silver Fang has lower raw stats than the White Bear. It is not a heavy hitter in terms of base numbers, but its value lies in that autonomous AI behavior. It is the only mount in the game designed to fight alongside you as a partner rather than just a vehicle.

On mount, R2 triggers a bite attack. R1+R2 chains into a combo. Speed is decent but below legendary horse level, making it better suited for combat zones than cross-map travel.

Skinning Silver Fang after the fight also drops the Silver Fang Helm as a bonus item — a legendary gear piece worth equipping.

For comparison with the other legendary creature mounts, see our White Bear legendary mount guide.

Step 1: Unlock the Legendary Wolf Quest Chain

Silver Fang will not spawn in the game world until you complete the Legendary Wolf quest chain under House Celeste in Hernand. Walking into Howling Hollow before this is done will find nothing but standard wolves.

The chain starts with Silence from Afar, the first quest in the House Celeste faction that triggers the Legendary Wolf storyline. To make it appear in your quest log, you need to complete a significant number of Hernand Faction Quests. Bounty hunts do not count — only standard faction quests from the various Hernand houses contribute.

Required quests to unlock the chain:

For House Celeste specifically, you need to complete:

  • Queen of the Silkspun Cradle — hunt the giant spider at Arboria Castle and restart the factory
  • The Hellhounds — fight the goblin fundamentalists

For House Roberts and House Alfonso — complete all quests in both lines. House Alfonso quests are interconnected with House Roberts progression, so work through both.

For Solumen of Hernand Parish — progress to at least 4 out of 6 quests complete, which involves heading to Senia.

After these conditions are met, Silence from Afar will appear in the House Celeste tab of your Hernand Faction Quests. This is the starting point of the three-quest Legendary Wolf chain.

If quests are not appearing, keep working through the faction tabs — the specific threshold requires broad Hernand progress, not just one house’s chain. See our how to use contribution points guide for help managing your faction standing efficiently.

Step 2: Track and Defeat Black Fang

Silence from Afar begins with speaking to a woman near Springtide Mill who has lost contact with her husband at the North Gate. Follow the chain through its steps until you are sent to track the Legendary Wolf — Black Fang.

How to track Black Fang:

Head to the Forest of Wolves, north of The Sage’s Peak in northeastern Hernand. Equip your Lantern (L1 on PlayStation) and hold it out toward the ground. A golden tracking trail will appear leading toward Black Fang’s location. If the trail begins to fade, hold the lantern steady and look at the ground — the line will strengthen back.

The fight has two phases:

Black Fang must be beaten twice in total. The first fight takes place in the Forest of Wolves. Black Fang is accompanied by a pack of regular wolves throughout — deal with the pack first before focusing fully on the legendary wolf itself, otherwise they will overwhelm you during the more aggressive attacks.

Black Fang’s key moves to watch:

  • Lunging Bite — long forward range, limited lateral spread. Dodge sideways, not backward.
  • Sweeping Claw Combos — wide arc in front, heavy stagger if they connect. Keep distance and wait for the animation to finish.
  • Teleportation — Black Fang can close gaps instantly. Do not assume distance equals safety.

After the first defeat, Black Fang disappears. You must find and fight it a second time in the eastern area of The Sage’s Peak in the Forest of Wolves. The second fight follows the same mechanics.

After the final defeat, Black Fang drops Leebur’s Soul. Use this key item from your inventory immediately. It permanently reveals the locations of all legendary animals across Pywel on your map — including Silver Fang, the White Bear, the Snowwhite Deer, and all legendary horses. This is one of the most valuable single items in the game for mount collectors. For the full legendary animal list, see our legendary wolf Black Fang and all legendary animal locations guide.

Step 3: Find Silver Fang in Howling Hollow

With Black Fang defeated, Silver Fang now spawns in Howling Hollow, a cave located north of The Sage’s Peak in the Hernand region. If you used Leebur’s Soul, the location is now marked on your map.

The cave entrance is nestled into rocky cliffs in the northern part of Hernand. Look for a faint ethereal mist around the entrance — it stands apart from standard wolf dens. Your journal will update with a Sighting of the Silver Fang entry to confirm you are heading to the correct spot.

Inside Howling Hollow, Silver Fang is surrounded by smaller wolves. These are the same situation as the Black Fang fight — deal with the wolf pack first before focusing on Silver Fang itself. Getting swarmed while Silver Fang is attacking is a fast way to lose control of the fight.

Critical environmental warning: There are purple plants on the ground and along the sides of the cave arena. Do not stand on them. They continuously drain your HP as long as you are in contact. Keep moving and be aware of where these patches are as the fight shifts around the cave.

Step 4: Beat Silver Fang

Silver Fang fights hard. Its attacks are fast, it uses a grab that deals significant damage, and it moves unpredictably. Here is what to focus on:

Silver Fang is weak to lightning attacks. Lightning hits cause a brief stun that opens a window for free damage. If you have lightning-imbued weapons, skills, or arrows, use them to build up stun windows and get in extended combos during the downtime.

Without lightning, kite the wolf patiently and dodge its charge attacks sideways. Going toe-to-toe with it is not advised given its speed.

The grab attack is the most punishing move. When Silver Fang winds up for a pin, dodge aggressively. Getting caught by it deals heavy damage and knocks you out of position.

Bring food and healing items going in. Our best healing food guide covers the best options to prepare before a fight like this.

After Silver Fang falls, press the skinning prompt on the body immediately. Do not walk away. Without skinning the carcass, the Fang of Silver Fang key item will not drop. Skinning is what gives you both the crafting material and the Silver Fang knowledge entry — you need both to proceed.

Step 5: Craft the Sigil of Solidarity at a Witch

With the Fang of Silver Fang in your inventory, head to any Witch with the Craft Abyss Gear option. The most accessible is Elowen at the Witch’s House in The Witchwood, southwest of Hernand City.

You must have completed Chapter 5 and the Guest Unbidden: Black and White quest (also referred to as The Missing Seal) before the crafting option appears. Without it, the Special Items tab will not be visible. If you have not reached this point yet, simply hold onto the Fang until you do — it stays safely in your key items.

Crafting steps:

  1. Speak to Elowen or any Witch with Abyss Gear crafting
  2. Select Craft Abyss Gear
  3. Press R2/RT to cycle to the Special Items tab at the far end
  4. Select Sigil of Solidarity (Silver Fang)
  5. Confirm the craft

The Sigil is now in your key items. Open your inventory, find it, and press Use. Silver Fang is permanently registered as a mount.

How to Summon Silver Fang

Silver Fang does not go to the stable. It is accessed through the mount wheel alongside your other legendary mounts.

On Console: Hold D-pad Down to open the Character Wheel. Use the Right Stick to highlight the horse slot, then press R2/RT to cycle through mounts until Silver Fang appears. Release to confirm selection. Then use your standard Call Mount button to summon it.

On PC: Press F1 to open mount selection, cycle to Silver Fang, and confirm.

Once summoned, Silver Fang follows you into combat. When you dismount, it stays active in the arena, attacks enemies independently, and behaves like a permanent AI companion during that fight. This is what makes it genuinely distinct from every other mount in the game.

Common Problems and Fixes

Silver Fang is not in Howling Hollow: You have not yet defeated Black Fang through the Silence from Afar quest. Silver Fang is a conditional spawn — it does not exist in the cave until the prerequisite is completed. Go back to your Hernand Faction Quests and check the House Celeste tab.

Silence from Afar is not in my quest log: You need more Hernand Faction Quest completions. Bounty hunts do not count. Work through House Roberts, House Alfonso, and other standard faction quests until the House Celeste chain opens further.

The Sigil crafting option is not visible: You need to complete the Chapter 5 quest Guest Unbidden: Black and White / The Missing Seal before the Special Items tab unlocks at any Witch.

I killed Silver Fang but forgot to skin it: Wait for the in-game daily reset, or travel far away from Howling Hollow and rest at a campfire to pass time. Legendary spawns in Crimson Desert can refresh after enough in-game time passes.
