TL;DR
- There are 3 legendary horses in Crimson Desert: Royler (white), Rokade (black), and Camora (red).
- You need at least 6 Stamina to realistically tame any legendary horse — more is better.
- Taming works by steering the analog stick toward the horse’s tail as it bucks. Fill the circle before your Stamina runs out.
- You cannot eat Stamina food during the taming minigame — eat before you start.
- If you get thrown off, the horse does not despawn — you can try again as many times as you need.
- Royler (Snowgrass Shelter, Silver Wolf Mountain) is the easiest to reach and has the best Stamina.
- Taming all three earns the Tamer of Legends trophy and achievement.
- Save your game manually before heading to each location.
Legendary horses are the best mounts in Crimson Desert short of a dragon. Each one is hidden in a different corner of Pywel with no quest marker pointing you there. You find them, tame them, and keep them — if you have the Stamina to hold on.
This guide covers where to find all three, their exact stats, how the taming mechanic works, what to do if you keep getting thrown off, and how to upgrade your horse after you’ve caught it. We also cover which legendary horse is actually worth getting first.
If you want to go even further and get a flying mount, see our guide on how to get a dragon in Crimson Desert.
How Horse Taming Works in Crimson Desert
Before tracking down the legendary horses, make sure you understand the taming mechanic. Failing to prepare is the most common reason players waste a trip.
The Taming Minigame
When you approach a wild horse and mount it, a circular progress indicator appears on screen. Your goal is to fill the circle completely before your Stamina runs out.
To fill it, steer the analog stick in the direction the horse’s tail is pointing as it bucks around. The horse will try to throw you in different directions. Keep tracking the tail and pressing into it.
Controls:
- PlayStation / Xbox: Tilt the left analog stick toward the horse’s tail
- PC: Press W, A, S, D in the direction of the tail
Key Rules to Know
You cannot eat during the minigame. Stamina food does nothing once the taming sequence has started. Eat before you approach the horse and make sure your Stamina bar is as full as possible. For legendary horses, you need at least 6 Stamina — these horses buck harder and longer than regular wild horses.
Getting thrown off is not the end. If your Stamina runs out before the circle fills, Kliff gets thrown. But the horse does not run away permanently. It will slow down and eventually stop nearby. Stand up, chase it down, and try again. There is no limit on attempts.
Environmental penalties matter. Stamina drains faster in extreme temperatures. Frost regions reduce your effective Stamina. Hot regions do the same. This directly affects legendary horse taming — see each horse’s section below for what to bring.
Save before you go. Make a manual save before heading to any legendary horse location. If the horse is not where you expect it or you want to retry under better conditions, you can reload the save.
All Legendary Horse Locations and Stats

Royler — The Legendary White Horse
Location: Snowgrass Shelter, Silver Wolf Mountain, Pailune Best For: Exploration and fast travel

Royler roams the plains around the lake near Snowgrass Shelter in the northern Silver Wolf Mountains. Travel south of the “P” in “Pailune” on your map to find the lake and the shelter. Royler is the all-white horse you will see grazing or walking the snowy plain.
Stats:
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Health | 375 |
| Stamina | 315 |
| Attack | 12 |
| Defense | 50 |
| Movement Speed | 4 |
| Acceleration | 3 |
| Handling | 2 |
| Jump Power | 2 |
Why Royler is the best legendary horse: Royler has the highest Stamina and Speed of all three legendaries. Stamina determines how long you can gallop before the horse tires. Speed determines how fast you cross the map. For exploration — which is most of what you will use a horse for — these are the two most important stats. Royler’s weaker attack and defense barely matter since horses are not your primary combat unit.
Frost warning: The Silver Wolf Mountains are cold. The frost temperature penalty will reduce your effective Stamina during the taming attempt. Equip cold-resistant gear before heading out and eat Stamina food right before you mount Royler.
Recommended unlock order: Royler is the first legendary horse you should get. His location is the most accessible, his stats are the most universally useful, and he comes available before you reach the more remote regions where Rokade and Camora live.

Rokade — The Legendary Black Horse
Location: Near the Spire of Insight, Steel Mountains, Grace Estate Best For: Mounted combat and tanking damage

Rokade is found in the south of the map near the coast. Head to the Steel Mountains region in Grace Estate and find the Spire of Insight. Rokade roams just south of the lake near the Spire — an all-black horse with noticeably stocky build compared to Royler.
Stats:
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Health | 600 |
| Stamina | 240 |
| Attack | 15 |
| Defense | 65 |
| Movement Speed | 3 |
| Acceleration | 2 |
| Handling | 3 |
| Jump Power | 3 |
Why Rokade is a war horse: Rokade has the highest Health of all three legendary horses. If you are doing mounted combat regularly and taking hits from enemies, Rokade stays alive longer. His Handling and Jump Power are also tied for best among the legendaries — useful for navigating rough terrain.
The catch is that Movement Speed (3), Acceleration (2), and Stamina (240) are the weakest of the three. For long cross-country rides, Rokade will tire out faster and reach your destination more slowly.
No environmental penalty: The Steel Mountains area has no extreme temperature effect, making the taming attempt slightly easier. Your Stamina will not drain faster than normal during the minigame here.

Camora — The Legendary Red Horse
Location: Redtree Forest, Tashkalp, southern Crimson Desert Best For: Aggressive mounted combat

Camora is the hardest legendary horse to reach — deep in the southern half of the map in the Redtree Forest of Tashkalp. The forest is lush and colourful, filled with red and orange leaves. Camora roams the open spaces within the forest canopy, a deep red horse standing out against the foliage.
Stats:
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Health | 450 |
| Stamina | 240 |
| Attack | 27 |
| Defense | 100 |
| Movement Speed | 3 |
| Acceleration | 2 |
| Handling | 3 |
| Jump Power | 3 |
Why Camora is a battle horse: Camora has the highest Attack (27) and Defense (100) of all three legendaries by a large margin. If you are playing with a lot of mounted combat, Camora hits harder and resists more damage than any other horse.
However, the same speed and Stamina limitations as Rokade apply — Movement Speed 3, Acceleration 2, Stamina 240. For general exploration, Camora falls behind Royler noticeably.
Heat warning: Tashkalp is hot. The heat penalty reduces your effective Stamina during taming. Equip heat-resistant clothing and eat Stamina food before mounting Camora. Go in well-prepared.
Legendary Horse Comparison
| Horse | Best For | Stamina | Speed | Health | Attack | Defense |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Royler (White) | Exploration / Long rides | 315 | 4 | 375 | 12 | 50 |
| Rokade (Black) | Mounted combat / Tanking | 240 | 3 | 600 | 15 | 65 |
| Camora (Red) | Aggressive combat | 240 | 3 | 450 | 27 | 100 |
Our recommendation: Get Royler first. He is the easiest to reach, available the earliest in the game, and his Stamina + Speed combination makes him the best all-rounder for everything Crimson Desert asks you to do. Rokade and Camora are worth getting to complete the set — and for the trophy — but Royler will be your primary mount for most of the game.
How to Upgrade Your Legendary Horse After Taming
Getting the horse is just the start. Here is how to improve your legendary mount over time.
Trust Levels (1 to 5)
Every horse — including legendary ones — starts at Trust Level 1 after taming. As trust increases, your horse unlocks new skills and abilities. A freshly tamed legendary horse is strong on paper, but not yet at full potential.
Trust increases passively over time as you ride and spend time with the horse. You can also increase it by completing Horse Challenges found in the Mastery section of your Journal. Finishing all 10 Horse Challenges also unlocks the Tamer of Legends trophy and achievement.
Abyss Tree Mount Nodes
Inside the Abyss Tree skill system, there are dedicated mount nodes that can directly improve your horse’s Stamina capacity and other attributes. These stack on top of the horse’s base stats. Investing even a few nodes here makes a noticeable difference for legendary horses, especially Royler’s already-high Stamina.
Check the Abyss Tree after unlocking it and look for the mount-related branches. If you are relying heavily on Royler for long exploration sessions, these upgrades are worth prioritising.
For more on skills and how the Abyss system works, see our guide on how to respec in Crimson Desert.
Saddlery Equipment
Horses have five equipment slots that accept gear from Saddlery shops. These shops are found near stables in most major settlements. You can also craft saddle equipment at a Blacksmith or buy specific pieces from Contribution Shops using Contribution points.
Equipping the right saddle and accessories can boost Movement Speed, Stamina, or Defense depending on what you prioritise. For Royler, Speed and Stamina-boosting saddle items are ideal. For Rokade and Camora, Defense gear extends their already strong combat durability.
Healing Your Horse
If your horse takes damage in combat and can no longer gallop, use the Healing Force Palm ability. Charge Force Palm, then press the Healing prompt while targeting your horse. This restores the horse’s health to full. It works on all horses including legendaries and is significantly faster than waiting for natural recovery.
Tips for Taming Legendary Horses
Eat Stamina food right before the taming attempt. You cannot eat during the minigame, so your Stamina needs to be at its maximum when you start. Bring food that boosts maximum Stamina or restores it instantly.
Wear temperature-appropriate gear. Frost gear for Royler in Silver Wolf Mountain. Heat-resistant clothing for Camora in Tashkalp. Rokade has no penalty — go as you are.
Don’t panic when thrown. Getting thrown is not a failure. Stand up, run after the horse, and try again. Legendary horses do not leave the area after throwing you. Take a breath, let your Stamina recover slightly, and mount again.
Save first, always. Create a manual save before each legendary horse area. If you arrive and the horse is not at its spawn point, reload and try again. Legendary horses have fixed locations but can occasionally have spawn timing quirks.
Get Royler before the others. His location is accessible much earlier in the story than Rokade or Camora. Getting him early means you have the best explorer’s mount for the bulk of your campaign.
What Comes After the Legendary Horses?
If you want to go beyond legendary horses entirely, dragons are the ultimate mount in Crimson Desert. A fully tamed dragon allows you to fly across the entire map — no path restrictions, no travel time limitations. It takes significantly more effort to unlock, but it is the endgame mount to work toward once you have your legendary horse sorted.
