If a Floradinn is blocking the path in Deltarune Chapter 5 and you cannot fight it or push past it, you are missing a key item. This particular Floradinn cannot be removed through battle. The only way to clear it is to use the watering can on the green flower buds nearby, which triggers a chain reaction that makes the roaming scissors cut through the area and sweep the Floradinn out of the way. The problem is that the watering can sits behind a locked door you have not opened yet. This guide covers every step from finding the can to clearing the path.
- The Floradinn blocking the path cannot be fought or pushed. You need the watering can to remove it.
- The watering can is found through the locked door guarded by two Floradinn enemies deeper in the Garden.
- To open that door, defeat one Floradinn normally. When you try the second, Flowery joins and finishes the fight.
- After getting the can, return to the area with the blocking Floradinn.
- Use the can to bloom all the nearby green flower buds.
- The scissors will automatically follow and cut through the blooms, clearing the Floradinn from the route.
What Is a Floradinn?
Floradinn are flower-shaped enemies and NPCs that appear throughout the Flower Kingdom Dark World in Chapter 5. They come in both hostile and passive varieties. Some act as regular enemies you fight normally. Others stand in specific spots and serve as obstacles or puzzle components.
The Floradinn blocking the forward path in the Garden is one of the passive variety. It is not threatening you. It is simply standing in the only route forward and will not move on its own. You cannot talk your way past it, attack it, or nudge it aside. The solution involves the environment around it rather than the Floradinn itself.
Why You Cannot Remove It Immediately
When you first encounter the blocking Floradinn, the watering can does not exist in your inventory yet. The can is locked behind a door further along the same area, guarded by two Floradinn enemies. You have to progress past the blocking Floradinn’s location first — the path branches and you can reach the locked door from a different direction — before you can come back and clear the obstacle.
This is the part that confuses most players. The Floradinn looks like it should be removable immediately, but the tool you need is on the other side of a puzzle you have not solved yet. The solution loops back on itself: progress forward, unlock the door, get the watering can, return, and then clear the Floradinn.
Step-by-Step: How to Get the Watering Can

Step 1: Navigate Around the Blocked Path
The Garden area has branching routes. When you hit the Floradinn blocking one direction, do not get stuck trying to force a solution. Look for an alternate route that continues the main path without going through the Floradinn’s location. The Garden is designed so you can reach the locked door from a different direction even before clearing this obstacle.
Step 2: Get Through the Scissors Room
On the way to the locked door, you will pass through a room full of moving scissors. These scissors patrol the paths and deal damage to Kris on contact. Do not rush. Wait for a scissor to pass, then move quickly through the gap behind it. Follow each scissor’s direction rather than trying to cut across its path. Stop, observe the pattern, and move in short controlled bursts. Trial and error is expected here — patience beats speed every time.
Step 3: Open the Locked Door
At the top of the area, you will find a large locked door with an inscription that reads “FLOWERS are symbols of LOVE.” Two Floradinn enemies guard either side. To open the door, you need to beat a Floradinn in the manner befitting of a flower — meaning through love rather than combat.
Start a fight with one of the Floradinn. On your turn, open the ACT menu and select Show Love. This does not go smoothly at first. The Fun Gang starts talking about how it is impossible to show love to someone they do not love. Show Love transforms into Susie’s idea, which she cannot explain. It then becomes Ralsei’s Idea. Select it. Ralsei explains that love is like a flower that may not bloom in some seasons but will blossom with more colors than a rainbow if you believe in it. This gets through to the Floradinn completely. The door, however, stays shut.
Flowery then steps in. He joins the party temporarily and helps you finish the second Floradinn — by grabbing both Floradinn, making them kiss, and throwing them away. The door opens. Interact with Ralsei’s leftover hat twice during this sequence if prompted.
Step 4: Pick Up the Watering Can
Head through the door into the next room. Inside, you will find the watering can sitting by itself. Kris automatically picks it up and carries it balanced on their head. The moment Kris picks up the can, the path directly beneath the party disappears — the can’s weight or presence shifts the terrain. Do not panic. This is normal.
The watering can lets you grow grass, flowers, and temporary walkable paths on any marked green patch of ground. It is one of the most important items in the entire Garden section and gets used repeatedly across different puzzles.

Step-by-Step: How to Use the Watering Can to Remove the Floradinn
Step 1: Return to the Floradinn’s Location
With the watering can in hand, head back to the area where the Floradinn was blocking the path. The route back is accessible from the Garden’s connected rooms. The Floradinn is still standing there, immovable as before.
Step 2: Water All the Green Flower Buds Nearby
Look around the immediate area for green flower buds on the ground. These are the marked spots the watering can interacts with. Use the can on every single one of them. Each bud blooms into a full flower when watered. Water all the buds in the area — do not skip any.
Step 3: Watch the Scissors Do the Work
As soon as all the nearby flowers bloom, the roaming scissors in the area automatically follow and cut through them. The scissors travel their own patrol path, but the newly grown flowers fall directly in their route. As the scissors cut through the blooms, they also clear away the plant obstacles and sweep the Floradinn blocking the path out of the way.
You do not have to guide the scissors manually. The chain reaction happens on its own once all the buds are watered. If a scissor gets stuck or off its path, ring a nearby bell to pull it back to its starting position and let it complete the route properly.
Step 4: Continue Forward
With the Floradinn cleared, the path ahead is open. Continue deeper into the Garden. The watering can stays useful — you will use the same water-the-buds-and-let-scissors-cut mechanic in the next rooms as well. Keep the pattern in mind: find the green buds, water them all, and let the scissors follow.
What to Do With the Watering Can Next
After clearing the blocking Floradinn, the watering can continues to serve as the Garden’s main puzzle tool. The area immediately ahead splits into two grass-blocked paths. Both need the watering can to open.
Take the right path first. Water the middle plots in the room to reveal a hidden image of Flowery’s face underneath the grass. Interact with the vines that appear and Flowery leaves behind a chest containing the Thatchet weapon. This is worth grabbing before you continue.
Return to the left path next. This route leads forward through two Shearys who block the way. Focus on one enemy at a time and the fight resolves cleanly. After that, the Garden opens into the diner section where Flowery and Asgore are eating and the chapter continues.
The watering can also works in the Garden’s optional hidden areas. Watering black patches of ground along the paths reveals hidden walkways and chests, including a chest containing Green Tea. If you are exploring thoroughly, spray every suspicious dark patch you encounter before moving on.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Trying to fight the blocking Floradinn. It cannot be removed through combat. The watering can solution is the only way. Do not waste time starting battles with it.
- Not watering all the green buds. The scissors only clear the Floradinn after every nearby bud has bloomed. Missing even one bud means the chain reaction does not reach the obstacle. Water everything before waiting for the scissors.
- Rushing through the scissors room. The scissors room on the way to the locked door is easy to get hurt in if you move without watching the pattern first. Stop, watch one full patrol cycle, then move behind the scissor after it passes.
- Leaving the area before getting the Thatchet weapon. The right path after clearing the Floradinn contains the Thatchet chest. It is easy to miss if you head straight for the left path. Go right first, then left.
