What Is Bright Dust in Destiny 2?
Bright Dust is a free earnable cosmetic currency in Destiny 2. You spend it at the Eververse store to buy cosmetics — shaders, armor ornaments, emotes, Ghost shells, ships, Sparrows, and finishers — without paying real money. It is the alternative to Silver, which is purchased with real currency.
With Monument of Triumph, Bungie overhauled how Bright Dust is earned and spent. Bright Dust will continue to be an earnable currency, now predominantly earned through the Seasonal Hub. Weekly earnable amounts have gone up in all Hub sources. Bright Dust will also be available on the Triumphant Rewards Pass, with all rewards earnable on the Free Track.
One important change to note: Zavala’s weekly Arsenal Credit buyback has switched to Chronologs. Bright Dust purchases will continue for Eververse items, bundles, and packs. If you previously used Zavala’s buyback as a Bright Dust source, that route is no longer active.
How to Get Bright Dust in Destiny 2 (All Sources)
1. Seasonal Hub — Daily and Weekly Challenges (Primary Source)
The Seasonal Hub is the main way to earn Bright Dust in Destiny 2 after Monument of Triumph. It is accessed through the Portal. Each day, three new Daily Challenges will be made available in this menu. Completing them awards XP, Bright Dust, a bonus drop in a Portal playlist, and Weekly Rank Progress.
Weekly Objectives refresh weekly, give you 50 Bright Dust, a high amount of Weekly Rank Progress, experience, and four Portal Bonus Drops. Daily Challenges each reward a smaller amount of Bright Dust alongside XP and Weekly Rank.
The Seasonal Hub uses an Order Payout system with weekly and seasonal caps:
- Common Order Payouts provide 10 Bright Dust each until your account has earned 1,000 Bright Dust that week from Common and Legendary Payouts combined. After reaching the 1,000 Bright Dust Weekly Category Limit, Common Payouts no longer provide Bright Dust.
- Legendary Order Payouts provide 100 Bright Dust each until your account has earned 1,000 Bright Dust that week from Common and Legendary Payouts combined. After reaching the 1,000 Bright Dust Weekly Category limit, Legendary Payouts provide only 10 Bright Dust.
- Exotic Order Payouts provide 200 Bright Dust each until your account has earned 6,000 Bright Dust during that season from Exotic Payouts. After reaching the 6,000 Bright Dust Seasonal Category limit, Exotic Payouts provide 30 Bright Dust.
In practical terms: aim to complete your Daily and Weekly Challenges each week to maximize your Bright Dust income. The 1,000 per week cap from Common and Legendary payouts resets every Tuesday at the weekly reset. The 6,000 seasonal cap from Exotic payouts is the bigger prize to chase over time.
2. Triumphant Rewards Pass (Free Track)
Bright Dust is available on the Triumphant Rewards Pass, with all rewards earnable on the Free Track. The Triumphant Rewards Pass is Monument of Triumph’s permanent reward track — it has no end date and never expires.
Every player can earn Bright Dust from the free track by ranking up the pass through XP gains. Any activity in the game contributes XP — Sparrow Racing League is back permanently and counts toward pass XP. Pantheon challenges are permanent and reward XP and gear simultaneously. Ritual playlists — Crucible Ops, Vanguard — still feed the pass.
You do not need to rush the Triumphant Rewards Pass. Since it never expires, you can claim Bright Dust tiers at your own pace indefinitely.
3. Eververse Engrams
Eververse Engrams can randomly drop Gift of Bright Dust items that automatically convert into a certain amount of Bright Dust: a Small Gift of Bright Dust is worth 250, a Medium Gift of Bright Dust is worth 500, and a Huge Gift of Bright Dust is worth 1,000. These drops are random and cannot be targeted directly, but they supplement your weekly Seasonal Hub earnings over time.
Eververse Engrams drop from activities and from ranking up with vendors. Keep an eye on your postmaster for any that accumulate between play sessions.
4. Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit Vendor Weeklies
Zavala, Lord Shaxx, and the Drifter each have weekly challenge rewards tied to their activity playlists. The weekly challenges from Commander Zavala, Lord Shaxx, and the Drifter reward 120 Bright Dust each and can be completed once per character. Each challenge requires completing 8 of the vendor’s bounties.
With three characters this means up to 1,080 Bright Dust per week from ritual vendor weeklies alone across Vanguard Ops, Crucible, and Gambit. These stack with your Seasonal Hub earnings but count toward the same 1,000 weekly cap for Common and Legendary payouts.
Note that Zavala’s Arsenal Credit buyback no longer pays in Bright Dust in Monument of Triumph — it has switched to Chronologs. Do not wait for the buyback as a Bright Dust source.
5. Repeatable Bounties (Small Supplemental Amounts)
Additional bounties purchased from Zavala, Shaxx, or the Drifter award 10 Bright Dust each. These are infinitely repeatable but give very small amounts and become worth less after the weekly cap is hit. They are useful to keep completing in the background while running activities for other reasons, but should not be your primary farm.
How Bright Dust Spending Changed in Monument of Triumph
Monument of Triumph significantly changed how Bright Dust is spent. The old weekly rotating Eververse store — where items disappeared for entire seasons if you missed them — has been replaced with a more evergreen system.
Daily Bright Dust Offers
A new Daily Offers tab cycles Silver and Bright Dust offers each day. Items rotate on a daily basis rather than a weekly one. The selection is smaller per window but the pressure is lower — you have more frequent chances at different items rather than one high-stakes weekly window.
Bright Engram Focusing
Update 9.7.0 changes the way Bright Engrams work with the addition of Bright Engram Focusing, housed in a new tab in the Eververse. A Focused Engram will award an unowned item of the Engram’s category. Bright Engram Focusing will leverage an amount of Bright Dust to focus your Bright Engram to guarantee rewards from an item category of your choice.
Bright Engram Focusing lets you use Bright Dust to focus Bright Engrams into specific cosmetic categories, such as shaders, emotes, finishers, Exotic weapon ornaments, and Exotic armor ornaments. Focused Engrams only award cosmetics you do not already own, and once you complete a category, that category locks.
This means your Bright Dust goes further than it ever has. Instead of pulling randomly from the entire Eververse pool, you target exactly what you want and are guaranteed an unowned item in that category. No more duplicates eating your currency.
Retired Event Cosmetics Now in the Pool
Festival of the Lost, Guardian Games, Solstice, and The Dawning are permanently retired as live events. Their weapon rewards moved into Monument of Triumph vendor engrams. Their cosmetics — armor ornaments specifically — are now available through Bright Engram Focusing. Nothing was deleted outright. Everything was archived into this one system.
This means cosmetics from years of past events that you may have missed are now theoretically earnable through Bright Engram Focusing. The pool depletes as you collect items, so longer-term players may find the selection narrowing over time.
How Much Bright Dust Can You Earn Per Week?
Here is a realistic breakdown of weekly Bright Dust income in Monument of Triumph for an active player on one character:
- Seasonal Hub Daily Challenges — small amounts per completion, up to the 1,000 weekly cap from Common and Legendary payouts.
- Seasonal Hub Weekly Challenges — 50 Bright Dust each, several available per week.
- Ritual Vendor Weeklies (Zavala, Shaxx, Drifter) — 120 Bright Dust each, up to 360 per character per week, or 1,080 across three characters.
- Exotic Order Payouts — 200 Bright Dust each toward the 6,000 seasonal cap.
- Triumphant Rewards Pass tiers — varies, earnable at your own pace with no time limit.
- Eververse Engram drops — 250, 500, or 1,000 from Gift of Bright Dust drops (random).
Completing all weekly Seasonal Hub objectives and ritual vendor weeklies on one character puts you at roughly 1,000+ Bright Dust per week from the regular cap. Running all three characters doubles or triples that. The Exotic Payout seasonal cap of 6,000 is the largest single source and is earned incrementally through Exotic Order Payouts over the season.
Tips for Maximizing Bright Dust Income
- Open the Seasonal Hub every week after reset. New Daily and Weekly Challenges appear every Tuesday. Do not let a week go by without claiming them — missed challenges do not roll over.
- Complete all three ritual vendor weeklies each week. Zavala, Shaxx, and the Drifter each award 120 Bright Dust for completing 8 bounties. These are fast to knock out if you are already running Vanguard Ops, Crucible, or Gambit for other reasons.
- Run on multiple characters if possible. Ritual vendor weeklies are character-bound, so running them on Hunter, Titan, and Warlock gives you three times the Bright Dust from those sources each week.
- Use Bright Engram Focusing strategically. Instead of spending Bright Dust on daily offers for items you are unsure about, use Focused Engrams to target a specific category you know you want — shaders, emotes, or ornaments. Focused Engrams guarantee unowned items, making every spend efficient.
- Check the Daily Offers tab every day. Some items rotate through on a short window. If something you want appears at a good Bright Dust price, grab it before it cycles out.
- Do not spend Bright Dust at Zavala expecting a buyback. The Zavala Arsenal Credit buyback now uses Chronologs, not Bright Dust. Budget your Bright Dust entirely for Eververse purchases.
What to Buy With Bright Dust
Bright Dust is spent exclusively in the Eververse store. After Monument of Triumph, the best uses for your Bright Dust are:
- Bright Engram Focusing — target specific cosmetic categories for guaranteed unowned drops. Entry-level categories like shaders and accessories start at 300 Bright Dust per focus.
- Daily Bright Dust offers — individual cosmetics that rotate through the store daily. Check these for direct purchases of specific items like shaders, ornaments, or emotes at a fixed price.
- Exotic ornaments — some of the most visually distinct Eververse items available. Use Bright Engram Focusing to target the Exotic ornament category for the most efficient path to unlocking these.
