TL;DR
- Chaos Reshaped grants a 20% damage boost after 12 seconds in combat (x1) and 35% plus periodic healing after 24 seconds (x2).
- The buff activates while the weapon is stowed — you do not need to hold it to build stacks.
- There are 40 weapons in Destiny 2 that can roll with Chaos Reshaped after Monument of Triumph.
- Originally exclusive to Salvation’s Edge, it was expanded to a wide range of weapons and activities in Monument of Triumph.
- It is one of the best sustained-combat damage perks in the game for PvE — and largely irrelevant in PvP.
What Does Chaos Reshaped Do in Destiny 2?
Chaos Reshaped has been a god roll perk in Destiny 2 since it was introduced. With the Monument of Triumph update, Chaos Reshaped has been added to revamped weapons across the entire loot pool, which has created new god rolls and new potential for a loot chase.
Here is exactly how the perk works:
- Chaos Reshaped x1: Being in combat for 12 seconds grants a 20% damage increase as long as you remain in combat.
- Chaos Reshaped x2: Being in combat for an additional 12 seconds (24 seconds total) increases damage by 35% and provides a periodic healing burst every 7 seconds.
The buff can be activated while stowed. Exchanging damage refreshes the buff duration. For Chaos Reshaped, being in combat is defined as having either dealt or received damage within the last 5 seconds.
That last point is critical. You can build Chaos Reshaped stacks on one weapon, then swap to your heavy or special for a damage phase — and the stacks and healing will carry over as long as you stay in combat. One interesting thing about Chaos Reshaped is that you don’t need the weapon in your hands to benefit. The perk activates even when holstered, letting you switch to another weapon while keeping the damage boost and healing.
You can see why Chaos Reshaped is so beneficial in endgame activities like Raids, Dungeons, and Vanguard Alerts, where combat encounters last longer than 12 seconds.
Chaos Reshaped vs Frenzy: What Is the Difference?
Frenzy is the closest comparable perk. It grants a 15% damage bonus plus improved reload speed and handling after being in combat for 12 seconds. The debate between Chaos Reshaped and Frenzy is common. Frenzy offers a 15% damage boost plus significant reload speed and handling benefits. Chaos Reshaped has a higher damage ceiling but requires longer combat time to reach it.
The short version: Chaos Reshaped has a higher damage ceiling at x2 (35% vs 15%) but takes twice as long to hit max stacks and offers no reload or handling bonus. In long raids and dungeon encounters where you stay in combat for 30+ seconds, Chaos Reshaped is strictly better. In shorter fights or patrol content, Frenzy is more practical.
Is Chaos Reshaped Good in PvP?
In quick encounters, the 12-24 second requirement is often a drawback. Other perks like Frenzy offer more immediate benefits and are generally preferred for PvP. The exception is 6v6 modes where fights chain together. Simply stay in the fight for 12 seconds and you will gain a 20% damage bonus. You can pair this with Radiant and two Solar Surge mods to make some weapons significantly more powerful, but it is not practical in 3v3 content.
For most PvP content, skip Chaos Reshaped and prioritize perks like Opening Shot, Kill Clip, Eye of the Storm, or Target Lock. See our best PvP weapons guide for full Crucible recommendations.

Best Chaos Reshaped Weapons to Farm First
Not all 40 weapons are worth equal effort. Here are the top picks by role, with notes on why Chaos Reshaped specifically is the right perk choice on each.
Zaouli’s Bane (Solar Hand Cannon — King’s Fall)
The best primary weapon with Chaos Reshaped in the game. Explosive Payload in column 3 pairs with Chaos Reshaped for a combination that gives you unconditional damage and radius on every shot plus a stacking combat bonus. In sustained content, this roll outperforms even Incandescent on Zaouli’s Bane for raw damage output. See our Zaouli’s Bane god roll guide for the best combinations. Farm it from King’s Fall or see our King’s Fall loot table guide for full drop details.
Cataclysmic (Solar Linear Fusion Rifle — Vow of the Disciple)
Cataclysmic is already the best Legendary boss DPS weapon in Destiny 2. Its primary god roll uses Fourth Time’s the Charm with Bait and Switch for a 35% damage bonus. Chaos Reshaped is an excellent alternative if you prefer a simpler activation — just stay in combat for 24 seconds rather than cycling through all three weapons for Bait and Switch. The 35% damage ceiling is identical. See the Cataclysmic god roll guide for both options and the Vow of the Disciple loot table for drop sources.
Forbearance (Arc Grenade Launcher — Vow of the Disciple)
Forbearance is the best wave-frame grenade launcher for add clearing. Chaos Reshaped on Forbearance gives it a sustained-combat damage bonus that stacks on top of its already massive one-shot wave damage. It is one of the strongest weapons in the game in any dense enemy encounter. See our Forbearance god roll guide for the recommended perk combinations alongside Chaos Reshaped.
Submission (Kinetic SMG — Vow of the Disciple)
Submission is one of the best Kinetic SMGs in the game for sustained close-range DPS. With Chaos Reshaped, it becomes self-healing while dealing damage — a combination that is excellent in solo Vanguard and dungeon content. See our Submission god roll guide for the top roll.
Insidious (Energy Pulse Rifle — Vow of the Disciple)
Insidious in the Energy slot is one of the better sustained primary weapons for mid-range combat. Chaos Reshaped at x2 gives it a 35% damage bonus, which is remarkable for a primary weapon that costs no Special or Heavy ammo. See the Insidious god roll guide for the full perk breakdown.
Epochal Integration (Solar Hand Cannon — Neomuna)
Epochal Integration is the easiest Chaos Reshaped primary to farm. It drops from Terminal Overload on Neomuna and is available without running a raid. For full farm details and all roll options, see our Epochal Integration guide.
Lubrae’s Ruin (Energy Glaive — Vow of the Disciple)
For players who enjoy Glaive builds, Lubrae’s Ruin with Chaos Reshaped is the top option. The combination of the Glaive’s shield, melee attacks, and sustained combat makes Chaos Reshaped a natural fit — you rarely leave combat in a Glaive build. See the Lubrae’s Ruin god roll guide for the best perk pairing.
Tips for Using Chaos Reshaped Effectively
- Pre-stack before a damage phase. Engage with adds for 24 seconds before a boss becomes damageable. By the time you switch to your heavy weapon, Chaos Reshaped x2 will already be active on any weapon you built the stacks on.
- Stay in combat continuously. The buff resets if you go 5 seconds without dealing or taking damage. In a raid, stay near enemies during the setup phase to maintain stacks going into damage windows.
- Pair with Luminopotent armor for Arc builds. The Luminopotent two-piece bonus improves weapon performance while Amplified — combine it with a Chaos Reshaped Energy weapon for sustained Arc build synergy. See our Luminopotent armor guide for how to get the set.
- Use the x2 healing to reduce the need for healing mods. The periodic 35 HP heal every 7 seconds at Chaos Reshaped x2 is meaningful in endgame content. It frees up mod slots that would otherwise go to healing for offensive or utility mods instead.
- Vow of the Disciple is the best single raid to farm for Chaos Reshaped weapons. Cataclysmic, Forbearance, Submission, Insidious, and Lubrae’s Ruin all drop from the same raid. One session can cover multiple Chaos Reshaped god roll targets simultaneously. See the Vow of the Disciple loot table for the full encounter breakdown.
