Where Is Calamari Canyon in Fortnite Runners?
Calamari Canyon sits on the west side of the Shattered Coast map, in the desert biome. It is a new POI introduced in Chapter 7 Season 3 — a remixed and dried-up version of Squibbly Shores from the previous season. The Zero Point’s reformation transformed the coastal squid-themed location into a sun-baked desert canyon with its signature gorge terrain.
On the map, find the named location label on the west side, north of Heatwave Harbor and west of the Zero Point at the center of the island. The lighthouse that was present in Squibbly Shores carried over and remains visible as a landmark at Calamari Canyon. The canyon sits between Chopped Shop to the north and Heatwave Harbor to the south, making it a natural mid-game rotation corridor along the western coast.
What Is Calamari Canyon in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3?
Calamari Canyon is a seafood-themed desert gorge. According to the Fortnite Wiki, it is a remixed and dried-up version of Squibbly Shores — the same general location, now completely transformed by the Zero Point’s energy into a cracked desert landscape. The water that defined Squibbly Shores is largely gone, replaced by a deep gorge with a river running along the canyon floor.
The defining structural feature is its layered elevation. Unlike flat POIs where all fights happen on the same plane, Calamari Canyon has:
- Canyon rim — the highest level. Best sightlines across the POI and surrounding desert terrain.
- Cliffside platforms and buildings — mid-level structures built directly into the canyon walls. Where most of the loot and the boss NPCs concentrate.
- Canyon floor with river — the lowest level. High risk if you get knocked down here, as escaping to higher ground is slow and the circle can trap you.
The WhaleTales building — a seafood-themed structure on the east side — is the main interior landmark and houses the vault underneath it. John Wick spawns near the northern cliffside area.
Calamari Canyon Sprite Chest Locations
Calamari Canyon has 3 Sprite Chest spawn points across the POI. Sprite Chests appear randomly at these known locations — not every chest spawns every match. Check all three on each drop. Enable Visualized Sound Effects to detect chests by audio before you have visual line of sight.
- WhaleTales building area (east side) — one of the primary Sprite Chest spawns is near or around the WhaleTales building on the east side of the canyon. This building also contains the vault entrance, making it a high-value first stop.
- Canyon mid-level structures — the cliffside buildings and platforms built into the canyon walls contain additional spawn points. Check the interiors of the main cliff-integrated structures as you move through the POI.
- Northern canyon area — the northern section near the cliffside where John Wick spawns has a confirmed Sprite Chest location. Combine the chest check with your approach to the John Wick NPC hire.
South of Calamari Canyon — 2 Additional Sprite Chests
Two further Sprite Chest spawns exist south of the main Calamari Canyon POI boundary, in the area between the canyon and Sinister Strip. These are separate from the three POI spawns and count as part of your rotation rather than your landing zone sweep.
If you’re rotating south from Calamari Canyon toward Sinister Strip or Heatwave Harbor after looting the main POI, pass through this zone and check both spawn points. They’re easy to grab without significantly extending your route. Combined with the 3 in-POI spawns, you can potentially hit 5 Sprite Chests in a single match by adding the south-of-canyon stops to your rotation.

WhaleTales Building Vault — Location and Loot
The WhaleTales building vault sits in the basement of the WhaleTales building on the east side of Calamari Canyon. This is a standard Rare Vault — one of six across the Shattered Coast that require a Rare Vault Key to open.
Inside: one Rare Chest, one Sprite Chest, and Slurp Barrels. The vault is below street level — the WhaleTales building exterior contains the entrance point to the basement where the vault is located.
Rare Vault Keys drop randomly from chests across the map. There’s no fixed key source at Calamari Canyon specifically — look for keys while looting the POI’s regular chests. When you pick one up, the nearest vault icon appears on your minimap. If it marks the WhaleTales basement, head straight there. If it marks a different vault, evaluate travel time before committing.
The WhaleTales vault is worth prioritizing because the guaranteed Sprite Chest stacks directly with the 3 open-world Sprite Chest spawns at the POI. A single Calamari Canyon drop with a Rare Key can yield up to 4 Sprite Chests before you even leave the POI.

Boss Spawns at Calamari Canyon — Skeletor and Wolfe
Two of Chapter 7 Season 3’s three boss NPCs — Skeletor and Wolfe — concentrate their spawn pool around Calamari Canyon. On the northeast side of the canyon near the grey containers, both bosses can spawn close together in the same match. This makes Calamari Canyon the single best POI on the map for Mythic weapon hunting — you can potentially defeat two bosses and collect two Mythics in one run.
Boss spawns are not guaranteed at Calamari Canyon every match. All three bosses (Skeletor, Wolfe, and Voidblade) share a spawn pool between Calamari Canyon and Frosted Flats. Any boss can appear at either zone in a given match. The red skull icon on your minimap appears when you’re within 200 meters of a boss — watch for it as you sweep the northeast canyon section.
Skeletor
Skeletor drops a Mythic Reacher Extending Shotgun (the Mythic version of the Extending Focus Shotgun) and a Chug Jug on defeat. He has a tank-like design — he periodically regenerates shields mid-fight when his health drops, requiring you to land fast, consistent shots to overwhelm his recovery cycle. Keep distance during the fight. His shotgun blasts deal significant close-range damage.

Wolfe
Wolfe drops a Mythic Maven Auto Shotgun and a Chug Jug. He is extremely mobile — he can near-instantly teleport behind you during combat to take surprise shots. Constant movement is required: keep sliding, sprinting, and jumping to disrupt his aim after each teleport. A fast-firing weapon like an SMG helps maintain damage output while you’re repositioning.
Wolfe is considered the most straightforward boss encounter despite his mobility, because his teleport pattern becomes readable after a few encounters. He’s the easiest of the three bosses once you know what to expect.
Dual Boss Strategy — Getting Both Mythics in One Drop
The northeast grey container area where both bosses concentrate is the highest-value combat objective on the Shattered Coast for players who want Mythic weapons fast. Here’s how to approach it:
- Land directly on the northeast side of Calamari Canyon near the grey containers.
- Grab floor loot and a weapon immediately before engaging — don’t walk into a boss fight with starter damage.
- Hire John Wick as a Heavy Specialist for 350 Gold before engaging the bosses (see below). Having him on your side during the fight is a meaningful advantage.
- Fight Wolfe first — he’s faster and more unpredictable, so eliminating him before Skeletor removes the most chaotic threat.
- Use the Chug Jug dropped by Wolfe to refill before taking on Skeletor.
- Clear Skeletor and collect both weapon drops.
This is the fastest two-Mythic route on the entire Shattered Coast in 2026. No other POI offers two boss spawns in one drop zone.
John Wick NPC — Heavy Specialist at Calamari Canyon
The John Wick (Pen & Ink) NPC spawns at Calamari Canyon — near the northern edge of the POI, close to a small blue building on the cliffside. He can be hired as a Heavy Specialist for 350 Gold.
Hiring John Wick before engaging the boss NPCs gives you an AI teammate who participates in the fight. This matters most when taking on Skeletor’s shield-regeneration cycle — having Wick applying sustained damage from a second angle reduces the total time to eliminate him before the next shield-regen phase.
Approach John Wick from the north if possible — the cliffside position makes him slightly awkward to reach from the south side of the canyon. Collect Gold from chests and floor loot as you loot the POI landing zone so you have 350 ready before reaching him.

Stealth Guardian Torso Cases at Calamari Canyon
All of the Stealth Guardian Torso cases for the Stealth Guardian case collection quest are located in and around Calamari Canyon. Collecting all three unlocks parts of the Stealth Guardian cosmetic style.
- Case 1 — Find the letter R in the word “Calamari” on your map. Directly below that letter is a small standalone building. Head to its exterior wall and look for a pile of white boxes on the floor — the case is next to them.
- Case 2 — Look above the first letter A in “Calamari” on your map. This area has a large compound actively patrolled by the John Wick boss character. Check the exterior wall lined with A/C units on the main building.
- Case 3 — Head to the northeastern edge of Calamari Canyon and find the concrete foundation built into the cliffside near the Extraction Site. Check the right side of the main concrete stairs near stacked boxes.
Cases are best collected during early-match looting before enemy player traffic peaks in the area. All three are in or immediately adjacent to the main Calamari Canyon POI, so collecting them doesn’t require a detour.
Calamari Canyon Combat Tips — Using the Elevation
The canyon’s layered design is Calamari Canyon’s greatest tactical asset and its biggest danger point. Understanding how to use the elevation makes the difference between winning fights here and getting trapped on the canyon floor.
Hold the Rim and Cliffside Platforms
The canyon rim offers the best sightlines in the POI and lets you control approach angles from all directions. Players on the rim shoot down at players on cliffside platforms and the canyon floor — this is the dominant position. When you arrive at Calamari Canyon, establish rim or cliffside control before looting lower areas.
Stay Off the Canyon Floor Unless Necessary
The river at the bottom of the gorge is the weakest position in the POI. You’re visible from both canyon walls, escape routes are slow, and if the storm circle forms away from the canyon, climbing out under fire is extremely dangerous. Only drop to the floor for specific loot or boss objective reasons. Get back to mid-level or rim position as fast as possible.
Use the WhaleTales Building as Cover
The WhaleTales building on the east side is the largest interior structure in the canyon. It provides solid cover during the initial landing phase and gives you a defensible position while you check the vault and nearby Sprite Chest spawns. Clear the building’s interior before heading to the basement vault — don’t vault-camp with enemies still alive in the building above you.
Watch for Squads Rotating from Heatwave Harbor
Heatwave Harbor sits south of Calamari Canyon on the west coast. Squads looting the harbor regularly push north through the canyon as their second rotation. Watch the southern approach as you’re finishing your Calamari Canyon run. The mid-game transition from harbor to canyon is one of the most common fight triggers on the west side of the map.
Calamari Canyon Loot Route — Best Match Plan
- Land northeast near the grey containers — check for boss skull icons immediately. Grab floor loot while watching for Skeletor and Wolfe.
- Farm Gold toward 350 — open chests quickly. You need Gold to hire John Wick before the boss fights.
- Hire John Wick at the northern cliffside — approach from the north, interact, pay 350 Gold.
- Check for Rare Vault Keys — open every chest you find. A key marks the WhaleTales vault on your minimap.
- Engage the bosses — with John Wick hired and floor weapons secured, fight Wolfe then Skeletor at the northeast grey containers.
- Open WhaleTales basement vault if keyed — east side, basement entrance, Rare Vault Key required.
- Hit all 3 Sprite Chest spawns — sweep the POI for Sprite Chests after the boss fights are clear.
- Collect Stealth Guardian cases — all three are within the canyon boundary.
- Extract at the nearby Extraction Site — bank Sprites before rotating south.
