Forza Horizon 6: Best X Class Cars Guide – All Cars, How to Get Them & Tips

Forza Horizon 6 best X class cars guide. Find every X class car, how to unlock each one, top speed stats, drag tips, and how the unlimited class works in FH6.

TL;DR

  • X Class in FH6 is the unlimited tier — PI 999 — reached only when a car is tuned or upgraded beyond R Class limits.
  • No cars in FH6 start at X Class by default. X Class cars are built, not bought.
  • Most X Class builds come from Forza Edition cars with extreme modifications — particularly the Nissan GT-R Black Edition R35 FE, Mazda MX-5 Miata FE, and Toyota AE86 Trueno GT Apex FE.
  • X Class has no dedicated Festival Playlist events at launch but is available in open multiplayer and free roam.
  • The fastest known X Class car in FH6 is the 1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex FE, reaching approximately 520+ km/h (323+ mph) with tuning.
  • X Class cars are not legal in class-restricted events — they are for free roam, drag meets, and open online lobbies.

X Class is Forza Horizon 6’s unlimited performance tier — the bracket beyond the bracket. No car ships from the factory at X Class. Every X Class car in FH6 is a Forza Edition machine pushed past the R Class ceiling of 998 PI into the absolute maximum of 999. These are the fastest, most extreme, and most unhinged builds in the game. They exist outside normal competitive events, available in open multiplayer, free roam, drag meets, and X Class-specific online races. This guide covers everything: what X Class is in Forza Horizon 6, every confirmed car that reaches it, how to unlock each one, what each excels at, and how to drive them without destroying your momentum through every corner.

Forza Horizon 6 is available on Forza.net, Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation.

What Is X Class in Forza Horizon 6?

Forza Horizon 6 uses an eight-tier Performance Index system. Seven of those tiers — D, C, B, A, S1, S2, and R — have defined PI ranges with upper limits. X Class is the eighth tier and sits above all of them. It has no upper limit. Any car whose PI reaches 999 automatically becomes X Class.

The key thing to understand is that no car starts at X Class in FH6. According to the official Forza Wiki, no cars in the Horizon series are ranked X 999 by default. X Class cars must be built. This almost always happens when a Forza Edition car — which already arrives with extreme modifications well above its base model’s stock PI — is upgraded further with the best available parts. A Forza Edition car that starts at R Class 990 PI, pushed further with race engine, transmission, and tyre upgrades, breaks into X at 999.

X Class is a different kind of tier to everything below it. Class-restricted events — Festival Playlist championships, Seasonal events, The Trial — all cap at R Class or lower. X Class cars cannot enter these events at all. They exist for free roam madness, Drag Meets, and open multiplayer sessions where players bring whatever they want. Think of X Class as FH6’s sandbox mode for car building.

For context on the classes just below X Class, see our best S2 class cars guide and our best R Class cars guide.

How Does X Class Work in FH6?

When any car is upgraded or tuned to PI 999, it becomes X Class. The upgrade screen will show the car’s PI climbing through its current class until it crosses the class boundary and jumps to X. The X label replaces whatever letter the car previously carried. Once a car is X Class, it can only enter:

  • Free roam — explore Japan at absurd speeds with no restrictions
  • Drag Meets — drag racing events have no class restriction and X Class cars dominate straight-line leaderboards
  • Open multiplayer lobbies — some online sessions have no class restriction, allowing X Class competition
  • Horizon Play open-class events — certain Horizon Play sessions allow all classes
  • X Class tune search — note that as of launch, there is a known bug in the Creative Hub where X Class tunes cannot be filtered by class in the search menu, so you may need to search by car name instead

X Class does not appear in the Festival Playlist’s Seasonal Championships, The Trial, or any standard capped event. It is purely for the players who want to go as fast as physically possible without restrictions.

All Confirmed X Class Cars in Forza Horizon 6

Every X Class car in FH6 is a Forza Edition variant. Here are all confirmed cars that reach X Class when fully upgraded:

1. 1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex Forza Edition — Fastest X Class Car

1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex Forza Edition)
1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex Forza Edition)

The 1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex Forza Edition is the fastest known car in Forza Horizon 6. When tuned to X Class, it reaches approximately 520 to 523 km/h (around 323 mph) — the highest recorded top speed in the game. This is a deeply absurd achievement for a car based on one of Japan’s most beloved lightweight sports icons of the 1980s. The AE86 body houses a completely reworked drivetrain and powertrain in its FE form, bearing almost no mechanical resemblance to the stock car beyond its bodyshell.

The AE86 FE excels at pure top speed events and drag-adjacent activities. It holds records on several of FH6’s drag strips and is the go-to recommendation when you want to know the absolute ceiling of what the game’s cars can do. For players who chase speed leaderboards, this is the car to build.

How to unlock: The Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex FE is a Journal Reward earned by completing 10 out of 16 chapters in the Master Explorer Discover Japan series (Tier 5). This makes it one of the most accessible top-tier FE cars in the game — it is entirely free and requires no DLC or Wheelspin luck, just sustained progression through exploration activities.

For the base model’s performance as a drift and road racing car, see our guide on the FH6 achievements and trophy guide for the exploration milestones that unlock the AE86 FE.

2. 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata Forza Edition — Best All-Round X Class Car

Mazda MX 5 Miata Forza Edition
Mazda MX 5 Miata Forza Edition

The 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata Forza Edition is the most flexible and most universally praised X Class car in FH6. It performs at or near the top in drag racing, top speed events, drift zones, and X Class open racing simultaneously. No other car in the game covers as many use cases from a single build. The community consensus is consistent: if you can only chase one FE car for X Class use, the Miata FE is the one.

Its biggest limitation is that its acceleration off the line is comparatively slow for its eventual top speed. Once the supercharged engine reaches full potential it is devastating, but it takes a moment to get there. On long drag strips this is less of an issue than on shorter ones where launches matter more. On pure top speed runs and sustained X Class highway blasts, the Miata FE is extremely competitive alongside the AE86 FE.

How to unlock: The Mazda MX-5 Miata FE spawns as an Aftermarket Car near the Horizon Festival starting point. This is the most accessible X Class car in the game — it regularly appears at a discounted price compared to Autoshow alternatives and does not require DLC, Wheelspins, or any specific progression milestone. Check the Aftermarket Car spots near the Festival regularly and buy it on sight.

3. 2012 Nissan GT-R Black Edition R35 Forza Edition — Best X Class Drag Car

Nissan GT R Black Edition R35 Forza Edition
Nissan GT R Black Edition R35 Forza Edition

The Nissan GT-R Black Edition R35 Forza Edition is the dominant drag car in FH6 at any class — and when pushed to X Class, it becomes the ultimate drag-strip weapon. It is built with a drag wing, wheelie bars, a parachute, and a 2,700+ hp engine setup. It currently holds records on FH6’s drag strips and is considered the best pure drag car in the game. Stock at S2 Class it already posts perfect 10.0 stats across Speed, Acceleration, and Launch. At X Class with full upgrades, those numbers go beyond the scale.

The critical caveat for the GT-R FE is the same at X Class as it is everywhere else: turning is essentially impossible at speed. It is built for straight lines and nothing else. Do not drive it into a corner at full speed expecting the car to cooperate. Drag Meets and long expressway blasts are its entire world.

How to unlock: The Nissan GT-R Black Edition R35 FE is a Wheelspin-exclusive car. It cannot be purchased from the Autoshow, found as an Aftermarket Car, or earned through any progression milestone. Your only guaranteed route is Wheelspins and Super Wheelspins — the RNG-based reward system tied to Car Mastery, Festival progression, and Collection Journal milestones. It also appears on the Auction House occasionally, but copies are rare and get sniped quickly. For the best strategies to earn more spins, see our Wheelspins guide.

4. 1970 Porsche #3 917 LH Forza Edition — Best X Class Circuit Car

Porsche 3 917 LH Forza Edition
Porsche 3 917 LH Forza Edition

The Porsche #3 917 LH Forza Edition is the most circuit-capable X Class car in FH6. The stock Porsche 917 LH is an S1 Class car, but the Forza Edition version arrives at R Class 998 PI — already near the X boundary — with a Speed Skills bonus and performance specifications that bear little resemblance to its base model. Pushed to X Class, the 917 LH FE is almost a tie with the Koenigsegg Jesko on highway top speed, coming out slightly ahead on the longest straights.

What makes the 917 LH FE special compared to the drag-focused GT-R FE is that it retains some handling. It is not a precision sports car at X Class speeds, but it does not completely fall apart through high-speed sweepers the way the GT-R FE does. For players who want an X Class car that can survive gentle direction changes at speed, the 917 LH FE is the pick. It is also viable for endurance events like the Goliath and Colossus if you want the spectacle of running X Class on Japan’s full circuit layout.

How to unlock: The 1970 Porsche #3 917 LH FE can be unlocked in two ways. First, it is available as a Collection Journal reward for earning 3,000 points in the Car Collection category — a free unlock through normal gameplay progression. Second, it is a Wheelspin drop. Given it is also earnable through the Journal, this is one of the more accessible FE cars in the game despite its extreme performance.

5. 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Forza Edition — Best X Class for Credits Farming

Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Forza Edition
Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Forza Edition

The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Forza Edition is the only X Class car in FH6 with a Credits Boost ability — permanently increasing your payout after events. At X Class, it is also a competitive short-strip drag car and one of the best off-road X Class builds available. The TRD Pro FE’s four-wheel drive layout gives it better launch traction on loose surfaces than the rear-wheel drive options above it, making it surprisingly effective at off-road drag events and mixed-terrain blasts.

Its top speed is lower than the AE86 FE, Miata FE, and GT-R FE at X Class, but the Credits Boost ability makes it the practical daily driver for players who want X Class capability combined with the best credit return on investment. If you are farming credits through open events, using the Tacoma TRD Pro FE in any X Class-eligible session is one of the most efficient money-making strategies in the game.

How to unlock: The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro FE is a VIP Membership exclusive. It is included with the VIP Membership add-on, which comes with the Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade Bundle. It cannot be obtained through Wheelspins, Aftermarket Cars, or Journal rewards. If you do not have VIP Membership and want this car, it may occasionally appear on the Auction House from other players.

6. 1994 Subaru Vivio RX-R Forza Edition — X Class Wild Card

Subaru Vivio RX R Forza Edition
Subaru Vivio RX R Forza Edition

The Subaru Vivio RX-R Forza Edition is the most unexpected X Class build in FH6. Based on one of the smallest, lightest kei cars in the game, the Vivio RX-R FE has been transformed into an extreme performance build with an Event XP Boost ability. When pushed to X Class, its ultralight weight combined with the extreme power of its FE setup makes it a genuinely competitive drag build on shorter strips where launch matters more than top speed.

It does not lead X Class in any performance category, but it is one of the cheapest and most accessible FE cars in the game and delivers an entertaining X Class experience. For players who have earned this car and want to experiment with X Class without investing in one of the rarer Wheelspin builds, the Vivio RX-R FE is excellent fun.

How to unlock: The Subaru Vivio RX-R FE is a Journal Reward earned at Horizon Life Events Tier 5. It is a free unlock through normal gameplay — no DLC, no Wheelspins required.

What Are X Class Cars Good For in FH6?

Drag Racing and Speed Records

X Class dominates drag racing. The Nissan GT-R Black Edition R35 FE currently holds records on FH6’s drag strips, running the quarter mile in approximately 6.3 to 6.5 seconds. The Mazda MX-5 Miata FE and Toyota AE86 Trueno FE are close behind and hold records on longer distance strips where sustained top speed matters more than pure launch.

For the competitive drag setup on each of these cars, always use the longest available gear ratio, race tyres or drag-specific tyre compounds, and a fully upgraded drivetrain. For more on drag strategy and competitive builds at all classes, see our best drag cars guide.

Top Speed Runs and Speed Traps

For absolute top speed records and purple-tier Speed Traps, X Class is the natural home. The AE86 FE at 520+ km/h makes it the tool for any top speed record attempt on Japan’s expressways. Find the longest uninterrupted straight — the Hokkaido highway sections in the north of the map are the most consistent — and let the car build through its power band.

For the best speed trap locations across the map and which cars work at each one, see our best cars for Speed Traps and Speed Zones guide.

Free Roam and Car Meets

X Class in free roam is exactly what you think it is. Japan’s expressways become a blur. The mountain passes become genuinely terrifying if you try to carry X Class speed through them. The Daikoku Parking Area car meet is one of the best spots to show off an X Class build to other players — few things attract attention in an online lobby like rolling up in a 520 km/h FE Trueno. For more on the car meet culture in FH6, see our Daikoku Parking Area guide.

Goliath and Colossus

X Class cars can enter the Goliath and Colossus endurance races, which have no class restriction. The 917 LH FE is the best X Class pick for these events because it retains enough handling to manage the route’s varied sections. The GT-R FE and AE86 FE are fast but extremely difficult to manage through the tighter mountain sections that make up parts of the Goliath routing.

For more on these events and what cars work best across the full route, see our Goliath Race and Colossus guide.

How to Unlock X Class Cars – All Methods

X Class cars come from Forza Edition variants, and FE cars have four unlock channels in FH6:

Journal Rewards (Free – No DLC Required)

Two of the best X Class cars — the AE86 Trueno FE and the Porsche 917 LH FE — are Journal Rewards earned through progression. The AE86 FE requires completing 10 of 16 Master Explorer chapters. The 917 LH FE requires 3,000 Car Collection points. The Subaru Vivio RX-R FE requires Horizon Life Events Tier 5. These are the most accessible X Class cars in the game and should be your first targets.

For full guidance on accelerating your Journal progression, see our Discover Japan Stamps guide and our guide on levelling up and earning XP fast.

Aftermarket Cars (Free – Map Spawns)

The Mazda MX-5 Miata FE regularly spawns as an Aftermarket Car near the Horizon Festival starting point. Aftermarket Cars appear at fixed map locations at discounted prices and rotate periodically. Check the Aftermarket spots near the Festival when you log in. The Miata FE is the most commonly available X Class car through this method and is the recommended first X Class build for any player who has not yet unlocked Journal Reward FE cars.

Wheelspins and Super Wheelspins (RNG – Grindy)

The Nissan GT-R Black Edition R35 FE, Wuling Sunshine S FE, and others are Wheelspin-exclusive at launch. There is no guaranteed method to obtain these beyond spinning. Super Wheelspins offer better odds than standard Wheelspins. Stack Car Mastery perks that include Super Wheelspins on high-value cars first. For the full strategy on maximising your spin count and targeting specific cars, see our Wheelspins guide and our Car Mastery and Skill Trees guide.

VIP Membership (Premium DLC)

The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro FE and Lotus Evija FE are locked behind VIP Membership, which comes with the Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade Bundle. If you already have VIP, check your garage immediately — both of these cars are already there. For everything VIP includes and whether it is worth buying, see our Reward Pass and premium content guide.

Tips for Driving X Class Cars in FH6

X Class cars are not like anything else in FH6. Driving them requires a completely different approach.

Brake Much Earlier Than You Think

At 400+ km/h, the braking distance required is enormous. Corners that feel manageable at S2 speeds become impossible approach problems at X Class. The golden rule for driving X Class cars on any road with corners: brake earlier than feels natural, every single time. The first ten minutes in an X Class car will involve multiple massive overshoots. This is normal. Adjust your braking references aggressively.

Use the Highways and Expressways

Japan’s highway and expressway network is the natural home of X Class cars. Long straight sections with gentle sweepers allow X Class cars to build speed without the handling demands that destroy their consistency on tighter roads. The Hokkaido northern expressways and the Osaka Bay elevated highway sections are the best locations. The mountain passes are for everything else.

AWD Conversions Help at Launch

Most X Class Forza Edition cars that are RWD in stock form — including the GT-R FE — benefit from AWD conversions for everything that is not a pure drag strip. The traction advantage at X Class launch speeds is dramatic. If your budget allows, the AWD conversion on any RWD X Class car is one of the best upgrades available.

The Bug with X Class Tune Search

As noted in the official Forza community forums, there is a known issue in FH6’s Creative Hub where filtering for X Class tunes in the Performance Class dropdown does not work as expected. If you are searching for community tunes for an X Class build, search by the car’s name rather than by class filter. The tunes exist — the search filter for X Class does not currently surface them correctly.

Is X Class Worth Building Toward?

Whether X Class is worth the investment depends entirely on how you play FH6. Here is the honest answer:

X Class is worth it if you enjoy free roam at extreme speeds, top speed record chasing, drag strip competition, or open-class multiplayer. The Mazda MX-5 Miata FE is so accessible through Aftermarket spawns that it costs nothing extra to have an X Class car. The AE86 Trueno FE and Porsche 917 LH FE are completely free through Journal progression. There is genuinely no reason not to pursue at least one X Class car.

X Class is less relevant if your entire focus is the Festival Playlist, Seasonal Championships, and The Trial. None of these events allow X Class. Every point you earn in the playlist, every seasonal reward car, every series milestone — all of it happens below X Class. For competitive playlist play, S1 and S2 cars are the relevant investment. X Class is an addition, not a replacement.

For more on the Festival Playlist and how to build an efficient competitive garage, see our Seasonal Events and Festival Playlist guide, our best S1 class cars guide, and our best S2 class cars guide.
