Halo Campaign Evolved: The Library Skulls & Terminal Locations

Halo Campaign Evolved The Library Skulls & Terminal Locations — find all 3 Skulls (Tilt, Pop, Famine) and the Tangent III Terminal with this complete step-by-step guide.

Halo Campaign Evolved The Library Skulls & Terminal Locations are spread across one of the most relentless missions in the game. The Library is Mission 7, and it is pure Flood from start to finish. You descend through four floors of a massive Forerunner installation, fighting wave after wave of Infection Forms, Combat Forms, and Carrier Forms — all while trying to retrieve the Halo Index. The three Skulls and one Terminal are tucked into this mayhem, and two of those Skulls are required to unlock LASO difficulty.

  • TL;DR
  • The Library has 3 Skulls and 1 Terminal to collect.
  • The three Skulls are: Tilt, Pop, and Famine.
  • The Terminal is called Tangent III — found in a side room after the Pop Skull area.
  • Tilt and Pop are both LASO-required Skulls — do not miss them.
  • Tilt is on a ramp when you first see the Sentinels — look left and walk straight up.
  • Pop requires climbing a ramp, jumping to platforms, then to a ledge — all near the locked door area.
  • The Tangent III Terminal is in a side room unlocked by a left-side console near the objective terminal.
  • Famine is on the fourth floor — go forward down the ramp, then immediately turn left.
  • The Acrophobia Skull (flight) makes reaching the Pop Skull significantly easier.
  • Once grabbed, all Skulls are permanently unlocked even if you die right after.

This guide covers all four collectibles in the exact order you encounter them. Pick up the game on Xbox, PlayStation, or Steam. And if you missed the Acrophobia Skull that makes some of these jumps easier, our Silent Cartographer Skulls & Terminal Locations guide shows exactly where to get it.

Before You Start: Use Acrophobia If You Have It

The Library is tight, dark, and full of Flood. It is not an open outdoor mission — it is a vertical descent through a multi-floor Forerunner structure. Most of the Skulls are accessible without any special tricks, but the Pop Skull involves a small platforming sequence that is much easier if you have the Acrophobia Skull active and can simply fly up to the ledge.

If you have not yet collected Acrophobia from The Silent Cartographer, it is worth grabbing before doing a collectible run of The Library. Our Halo Campaign Evolved How to Fly guide covers that Skull and how to use flight across every mission.

Collect in this order: Tilt Skull → Pop Skull → Tangent III Terminal → Famine Skull. That is the natural flow of the mission.

Where to Find the Tilt Skull

The Tilt Skull is the first collectible in the mission and it appears right when the Sentinels show up for the first time — which is your visual cue to look for it.

Progress through The Library by following 343 Guilty Spark and your objective markers down through the structure. You will reach the point where the objective updates to “Take the elevator into the lower chambers”. At this point, you will enter a large tunnel area filled with Flood — and importantly, Guilty Spark’s Sentinel drones will appear and begin shooting at the Flood with their lasers.

As soon as you enter this tunnel room, keep your back to the entrance wall and face forward. Now look to your left. You will see a ramp running up the left side of the room — it is a gently sloped surface you can walk up without jumping.

Walk up the ramp all the way to the top. At the very top in the middle, the Tilt Skull is sitting there. Interact with it to collect it. No jump, no vehicle, no grenade needed. Just walk up and grab it.

Tilt Skull Effect

  • Amplifies both weapon strengths and weaknesses simultaneously.
  • Plasma weapons become much more effective at draining shields, but less effective against health.
  • Ballistic weapons become more effective against health, but less effective at draining shields.
  • Forces you to think very carefully about weapon selection for each enemy type.
  • This is one of the LASO-required Skulls — essential for that difficulty unlock.

Tilt is one of the more mechanically interesting challenge Skulls. It does not just make the game harder across the board — it makes you think about what you are shooting and why. For how difficulty settings interact with Skull modifiers in general, see our Halo Campaign Evolved difficulty differences guide.

Skull #2: Pop — Location and Effect

Where to Find the Pop Skull

The Pop Skull comes after you take the elevator down. Once you descend on the elevator, you will see the “Wait, It Gets Worse” checkpoint title appear on screen — that is how you know you are in the right area.

In this new zone, you need to push either left or right down the corridor — the two hallways loop around and connect, so either direction eventually leads to the same place. Follow either path until you reach a locked door at the end of the corridor where 343 Guilty Spark is waiting. You will need to defend the area briefly as Guilty Spark unlocks it.

Once the door is unlocked but before going through, turn around 180 degrees to face back down the corridor you just came from. Against the wall behind you, there is another ramp that you can walk up. Go up it.

At the top of that ramp, you will see tall rectangular platforms sticking up from the ground. Jump up onto them. From the top of those platforms, you need to make one more jump to reach a ledge along the wall — the Pop Skull is sitting on that ledge.

If you have Acrophobia active, simply fly up from the ramp directly to the wall ledge. It takes about two seconds. Without it, carefully jump from platform to platform and then across to the ledge. Take your time — there is no timer pressure here.

Pop Skull Effect

  • Shooting Flood in their weak points causes them to explode.
  • Combat Forms, Carrier Forms, and Infection Forms all react with explosive force when their weak spots are hit.
  • Can be used offensively — a well-placed shot on a Combat Form near a group of Infection Forms clears the whole cluster.
  • This is the second LASO-required Skull from this mission.

Pop is one of the most satisfying Skulls in the Library specifically. When you are drowning in Flood and everything keeps coming at you, the ability to make Combat Forms explode on weak-point hits is both cathartic and tactically useful. Combined with a Shotgun, it turns the Library from oppressive to almost fun.

Terminal: Tangent III — Location and Lore

Where to Find the Tangent III Terminal

The Tangent III Terminal is found right after the Pop Skull area — specifically after you pass through the door that Guilty Spark unlocked. This is the final chapter of the Tangent Terminal series that began with Tangent I in Assault on the Control Room and continued with Tangent II in 343 Guilty Spark.

Go through the newly unlocked door. On the other side, you will find a room with two terminals — one on the left and one on the right. The main objective directs you to interact with the right terminal, which progresses the mission. But first, interact with the left terminal.

Activating the left terminal unlocks a secondary door just in front of it. Head through that newly opened door. Inside the room beyond, there is a pathway on the left blocked by Flood spores — you can walk around them without taking damage. Keep moving into the room.

You will see a dead Marine’s body on the floor. To the right of it, the Tangent III Terminal is sitting against the wall. Interact with it to unlock the final Tangent lore entry. After collecting it, head back out and activate the right terminal to continue the mission.

What Does the Tangent III Terminal Contain?

Tangent III is the final entry in the three-part Tangent series — a classified lore document spanning Assault on the Control Room, 343 Guilty Spark, and now The Library. It wraps up the Forerunner intelligence thread that runs beneath the main campaign story. Once collected, it is readable anytime in the Collectibles section of the main menu.

Collecting all three Tangent Terminals also contributes to the Timeless Tomes trophy/achievement — specifically tied to finding the Tangent III Terminal in The Library near Rally Point Bravo. For the full achievement breakdown, see our Halo Campaign Evolved achievement and trophy list.

Skull #3: Famine — Location and Effect

Where to Find the Famine Skull

The Famine Skull is the final collectible in the mission and it comes near the very end, on the fourth and lowest floor of The Library.

Continue through the mission after collecting the Terminal. Follow 343 Guilty Spark and your objectives as the level pushes you deeper into the Library. Eventually you will descend via elevator to the lowest level and see the “Fourth Floor: Tools, Guns, Keys to Superweapons” title card appear on screen. That subtitle is your landmark.

When that title appears and you step into the fourth floor room, you have three directions available: left, right, or forward down a ramp. Go forward down the ramp. The moment you reach the bottom of the ramp, turn immediately left.

In the corner to your left, surrounded by Flood spores, the Famine Skull is sitting on the ground. Walk up to it and interact. You can pick it up without clearing the spores first — just push through and grab it.

Famine Skull Effect

  • All weapons picked up from fallen enemies contain only half the normal ammo.
  • Scavenging enemy weapons becomes less rewarding — you get far fewer shots per pickup.
  • Forces much more careful ammo management across every encounter.
  • Pairs especially brutally with the Flood-heavy missions, where scavenged Shotgun ammo is critical.

Famine is a serious resource-pressure Skull. In a mission like The Library where you are constantly burning through Shotgun and Assault Rifle ammo against waves of Flood, halving every enemy weapon pickup creates genuine tension. For co-op runs where ammo sharing becomes important, see our Halo Campaign Evolved co-op players guide.

LASO Note: Tilt and Pop Are Both Required

Of the three Skulls in The Library, Tilt and Pop are both required to unlock LASO difficulty. LASO requires 17 specific Skulls to all be collected before the difficulty option appears. Missing either of these two from The Library means LASO stays locked regardless of how many other Skulls you have found.

Famine is not part of the LASO requirement list, but collecting all three Skulls from The Library contributes to the Headhunter achievement for finding all 39 hidden Skulls across the game.

Tips for Getting All Collectibles in The Library

  • Have Acrophobia active before you start. The Pop Skull platforming sequence is trivial with flight. Without it, it is doable but takes more care. Grab Acrophobia from The Silent Cartographer first if you do not have it. Our Silent Cartographer Skulls guide shows exactly where it is.
  • The Tilt Skull cue is the Sentinels appearing. When you first see Guilty Spark’s drones shooting at the Flood in the tunnel room — stop, look left, go up the ramp. Do not push forward past that room before grabbing it.
  • Turn around at the locked door for Pop. Most players face the locked door and wait for it to open, then walk straight through. The Pop Skull is behind you — spin 180 degrees before going through.
  • Interact with the LEFT terminal first. The right terminal progresses the mission. The left one opens the side door that leads to the Tangent III Terminal. Do not hit the right terminal before getting the lore entry.
  • Listen for the audio cue on Famine. When you step off the elevator onto the fourth floor, keep your ears open for the faint Skull whisper. The moment you hear it louder, you are close — go forward down the ramp and turn left immediately.
  • Skulls are permanently yours once grabbed. Die right after picking one up and it still counts. The Library has a lot of Flood pressure, but panicking into a death right after a Skull is never wasted — the collect still sticks.
  • Have Bandana active if you can. Infinite ammo from the Bandana Skull (found in The Silent Cartographer) removes all resource pressure in The Library, letting you focus entirely on the collectibles without worrying about running dry.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Skulls Are in The Library?

There are three Skulls in The Library: Tilt, Pop, and Famine. Every main mission in Halo Campaign Evolved contains exactly three hidden Skulls.

How Many Terminals Are in The Library?

There is one Terminal in The Library, called Tangent III. It is accessed by interacting with the left-side terminal in the two-terminal room, then going through the door it opens and finding the Terminal beside a dead Marine’s body inside.

Are Any Library Skulls Required for LASO?

Yes. Tilt and Pop are both required for LASO difficulty. They are two of the 17 Skulls that must be collected before LASO unlocks. Famine does not contribute to the LASO requirement but is needed for the Headhunter achievement.

What Does the Tilt Skull Do?

With Tilt active, weapon strengths and weaknesses are amplified. Plasma weapons drain shields faster but deal less damage to health. Ballistic weapons deal more damage to health but strip shields more slowly. It forces much more deliberate weapon choices against each enemy type.

What Does the Pop Skull Do?

With Pop active, hitting Flood enemies in their weak points causes them to explode. This works on Combat Forms, Carrier Forms, and Infection Forms. It can be used strategically to chain explosions through groups of enemies, especially tight clusters of Infection Forms.

What Does Famine Do?

With Famine active, enemy-dropped weapons contain only half their normal ammunition. Every weapon you scavenge from fallen enemies gives you half the shots you would normally get. It puts constant pressure on ammo management throughout every mission it is active in.

How Do I Get to the Tangent III Terminal?

When you reach the two-terminal room after the Pop Skull area, interact with the left terminal first. This opens a side door. Go through it, walk around the Flood spores on the left, and find the Tangent III Terminal to the right of the dead Marine inside the room. Then go back and use the right terminal to continue the mission.
