Halo Campaign Evolved: The Silent Cartographer Skulls & Terminal Locations

Halo Campaign Evolved The Silent Cartographer Skulls & Terminal Locations — find all 3 Skulls (Bandana, Acrophobia, Hip Fire) and the Status Update Terminal in this step-by-step guide.

Halo Campaign Evolved The Silent Cartographer Skulls & Terminal Locations are some of the most valuable collectibles in the entire game. This is Mission 4 — a gorgeous beachfront island assault — and it contains three Skulls that players actively seek out from the very start of a playthrough. Two of them, Bandana and Acrophobia, are widely considered the most useful Skulls in the game. Bandana gives you infinite ammo. Acrophobia lets you fly. Getting both early makes every mission that follows significantly easier.

  • TL;DR
  • The Silent Cartographer has 3 Skulls and 1 Terminal to collect.
  • The three Skulls are: Bandana, Acrophobia, and Hip Fire.
  • The Terminal is called Status Update — found underground near the security override substation.
  • Bandana gives infinite ammo and grenades — found in a cave right at the start.
  • Acrophobia unlocks flight — found on top of a Forerunner structure after defeating Hunters.
  • Hip Fire disables all weapon zoom — found on a platform inside an underground shaft near the end.
  • Many players skip straight to this mission just to grab Acrophobia and Bandana early.
  • Collect in this order: Bandana → Acrophobia → Status Update Terminal → Hip Fire.

This guide walks you through all four collectibles in the exact order you encounter them. Get the game on Xbox, PlayStation, or Steam. And if you want to understand exactly how the Acrophobia Skull’s flight mechanic works across the whole game, our full Halo Campaign Evolved How to Fly guide covers everything.

Why This Mission Matters for Skull Hunters

The Silent Cartographer is Mission 4, but it is the first mission many completionists visit — even before playing missions 1 through 3. The reason is simple: Bandana and Acrophobia are two of the most powerful utility Skulls in the entire game, and having both active from early on transforms how you approach every other collectible hunt.

With Bandana active, you have infinite ammo and grenades — meaning you can grenade jump to hard-to-reach Skulls without worrying about running out. With Acrophobia active, you can fly instead of grenade jumping at all, reaching high ledges and awkward platforms in seconds.

You can jump directly to this mission from the Campaign menu without completing earlier missions. Grab both Skulls, then come back and play through the rest of the game with both advantages in hand.

Skull #1: Bandana — Location and Effect

Where to Find the Bandana Skull

The Bandana Skull is the very first collectible in the mission and it is available almost immediately — before you even go underground for the first time.

When the mission begins, you land on the beach. Clear the Covenant forces and wait for the Pelican to drop off a Warthog. Once you have the vehicle, follow the objective marker that leads you toward a structure that takes you underground. You are heading toward the first building entrance.

Instead of going inside, pass around the building. Look to the right of the structure’s entrance. There is a small cave just off to the right of it. Go inside the cave and look at the floor. The Bandana Skull is sitting on the ground inside. Interact with it to collect it.

That is all it takes. It is one of the most accessible Skulls in the entire game.

Bandana Skull Effect

  • Grants infinite ammo and grenades for all weapons.
  • You never need to reload or conserve ammo while Bandana is active.
  • Makes grenade jumping for other Skulls trivial — unlimited grenades means unlimited attempts.

Bandana is a beloved Skull across the Halo franchise. It does not make enemies easier or harder — it simply removes resource pressure entirely. On skull-hunting runs it is an essential tool. Combine it with Acrophobia and you have the ideal setup for collecting everything across the game.

Skull #2: Acrophobia — Location and Effect

Where to Find the Acrophobia Skull

After grabbing Bandana, head underground through the locked building. The door will be locked when you arrive — this is scripted — and you will be sent back to the surface, directed toward the beach with your Warthog. Follow the objective markers along the coast to a second structure surrounded by Hunters and other enemies. This area sits inland on the island, up through a canyon.

Fight your way up the canyon and clear all the Covenant, including the two Hunters guarding the structure. Once the area is clean, look at the large central Forerunner structure. On the outside of it you will find diagonal ramp sections running up the sides.

Jump onto the ramps and walk up them, climbing the exterior of the structure. Keep going until you reach the top platform. Walk across the top and follow it to the far edge near some tree branches on the right side. The Acrophobia Skull is sitting right there on the platform. Pick it up.

Once collected, Acrophobia is permanently unlocked and can be activated before any future mission from the Skull selection screen.

Acrophobia Skull Effect

  • Grants the ability to fly by pressing Jump and holding the button while airborne.
  • Works in every mission in the game once activated before starting.
  • Makes the majority of hard-to-reach Skull locations significantly easier to access.
  • Disables certain achievements and trophies — do not use it on trophy-focused mission runs.

Acrophobia is arguably the single most useful Skull in the game for completionists. For everything you need to know about how to use flight, what its limits are, and which specific Skulls it helps you reach fastest, our dedicated Halo Campaign Evolved How to Fly guide covers it all in full.

Terminal: Status Update — Location and Lore

Where to Find the Status Update Terminal

After picking up the Acrophobia Skull, continue following the objective. The locked building from earlier is now open and you can go underground. Head inside and descend through the building in search of the security system’s override substation.

You will fight through several enemies on the way down. Keep pushing until you reach a room containing a blue holographic console in the centre — this is the override substation you need to interact with. But before you do, take a moment for the Terminal.

Walk behind the blue console. You will find a small side room back there with a metal table inside. Go behind the table and look in that space. The Status Update Terminal is right there against the wall. Interact with it to unlock the lore entry.

After collecting the Terminal, you can then activate the blue console to progress the mission.

What Does the Status Update Terminal Contain?

Status Update is the fourth Terminal in the main campaign — following Approach (Pillar of Autumn), Forgotten (Halo), and Inquisitor (Truth and Reconciliation). Like all Terminals, it contains classified lore and story context that expands on the events happening beneath the surface of the campaign. Once collected, it is readable at any time from the Collectibles section of the main menu.

For the broader story context of what these Terminals reveal across the whole game, our Halo Campaign Evolved review guide covers the full narrative picture.

Skull #3: Hip Fire — Location and Effect

Where to Find the Hip Fire Skull

After activating the security system override, follow the objective back to the original locked building — it is now open. Head inside and go underground through the stairs, deeper into the island in search of the Silent Cartographer itself.

Keep following the objective markers through the underground corridors. You will eventually reach an open room with two more Hunters. Clear them out. Once they are down, look around the room carefully.

Find the open hallway with a staircase and a railing, lit from below by a blue light descending into a vertical shaft. Walk to the railing and look down into the hole below. On the back-right wall of that shaft, one level down, there is a platform or ledge you can see from above.

The Hip Fire Skull is sitting on that platform. To reach it, hug the railing and drop down into the shaft, aiming to land on that platform against the back-right wall. Interact with the Skull to collect it. Then continue the mission by following the path downward from there.

If you already have Acrophobia unlocked and active, you can simply fly down into the shaft and land precisely on the ledge — no guesswork needed.

Hip Fire Skull Effect

  • Disables all weapon zoom functionality for every weapon in the game.
  • Sniper rifles, pistols, plasma rifles — nothing can zoom or aim down sights.
  • Forces you to fire entirely from the hip at all ranges.

Hip Fire is a pure challenge Skull. It makes precision weapons like the Sniper Rifle dramatically less effective and forces a very different combat style. On higher difficulties, losing weapon zoom against shielded Elites and distant Jackals is a genuine handicap. See our Halo Campaign Evolved difficulty differences guide for how modifiers like this stack across difficulty levels.

Tips for Getting All Collectibles in The Silent Cartographer

  • Grab Bandana before entering any building. It is in a cave to the right of the first structure entrance. You cannot miss it if you know to look right before going underground.
  • Clear the Hunters before climbing for Acrophobia. The structure is easier to navigate without active combat. Take them out first, then climb at your own pace.
  • Do not activate the blue console before grabbing the Terminal. Once you hit the override, you can still get the Terminal — but it is right behind the console, so just check there first before interacting.
  • For Hip Fire, aim your drop carefully. The ledge is against the back-right wall of the shaft. Look before you leap. If you miss and fall further down, work your way back up via the stairs.
  • You can skip to this mission from the start. If you want Bandana and Acrophobia immediately, jump straight to The Silent Cartographer from the Campaign menu. No need to complete earlier missions first.
  • Skulls are permanently yours once collected. Even if you die right after grabbing one, it stays in your collection. Never panic about falling after a pickup.
