Step One: Complete The Price of Magic Quest
Before you can buy scrolls from anyone in the Old Camp, you need to unlock Torrez as a vendor. The only way to do that is to complete The Price of Magic quest.
All you need to do is find a couple of items for the mage Torrez, and in return, he’ll give you a valuable spell rune which lets you cast permanently so long as you have mana in the tank.
Here is what you need to bring him:
- 1 Blank Parchment — buy it from Graham the cartographer near the north gate of the Old Camp for 16 Ore Nuggets.
- 2 Wolf Claws — kill wolves near the Old Camp, or buy them from Cavalorn the hunter west of camp. Each claw costs 8 Ore Nuggets.
Head back to where you first found Torrez and hand him the materials. He will explain how the magic works and give you the option to choose between two rune magics: a Healing Rune or a Firebolt Rune.
Once that quest is done, Torrez opens his shop. This will also unlock Torrez’s store, where he sells scrolls, runes, and mana potions, albeit at a high price.

Where to Buy Scrolls in Gothic 1 Remake
Once you unlock the right vendors, buying scrolls is the most reliable way to keep your stock full. Here are the main vendors across all three camps.
Torrez — Old Camp
Torrez is the first scroll vendor you will meet. He is located in the southwest of the Old Camp, near the marketplace with the hanging cloth. From there on, you can ask Torrez for additional scrolls, which are consumable by the way.

How to Get Scrolls for Free — Loot Chests
Buying is not your only option. Loot is one of the best ways to build up a scroll stash without spending Ore.
Swamp Camp Chests
Most of the chests in the Swamp Camp contain one or two scrolls like Telekinesis, Light, Charm, and others. Of course, players need Lockpicking to access these scrolls hidden inside the NPC huts, but that’s a skill worth investing time in.
